To Be Wild (A Poem)
Dogs, everywhere, are trying to remind us
not that we should wag our tails
and be free,
but that we are free
to wag our tails.
It’s okay to be wild again,
to run free through the park,
the woods,
the field,
along the beach,
arms to the sky,
face to the wind.
The wilderness reminds us
of our wildness.
The branch that grows straight lacks courage;
it has tried to fit an inorganic mould,
one that it has observed on the pavement below,
on the building across the road.
“You will be the first branch to break,” warns the tree.
“And you won’t be able to blame the wind.
You’re not meant to grow straight,
you’re meant to bend,
and yield to the wind that will mould you.
But first you have to surrender
to your wildness,
to your bumps and your curves,
your so-called imperfections,
and once you accept these things,
these things you try so hard to reject,
they will be the very things
that make you proud of yourself.
And when the wind says fall
you will fall,
and you will be one of the reasons
why the dog wags its tail.
And you, too, will be wagging
in your own unique way.”

Blessings.

Cobweb (Haiku)
The cobweb floats down,
glinting like a silver thread—
flies dance around it.

Fear of the unknown,
an opportunity gone.
Freedom from the known.

Octagon Man (A Poem)
A man sits in an octagon,
sleeves of red, grey chest,
contemplating life,
on this one day of rest.
Concentrating on one of the eight:
how can they be so straight?
How can they lead to their successor,
so effortlessly surrendering to their fate,
to create a shape so whole and complete?
Wondering why life isn’t as easy,
why it’s full of wiggles and so often offbeat,
and bends, that lead to dead ends,
and undesired trends.
Wondering how a life can be
shaped into something so concrete,
like the octagon
that offers him a seat.

Blessings.

Wonder (A Poem)
When you look and the three kings vanish…
When Out of the sky comes an unexpected ray of hope…
When it’s Nice not knowing…
When you can Dream a dream to offer proof…
When you realise that Every day you could not be…
When you are inspired to Reach for something seemingly greater than you…

Happy Friday, folks. Have a great weekend.

The Blackbird Guilt (A Poem)
What did it feel it
to be pecked at
by a beak sharper than yours?
What did it feel like
to be pinned to the lawn,
with talons fiercer than yours?
What did it feel like
to be in the wrong part of the sky
at the wrong time,
and plucked from it,
then slammed into the earth
with a force you never knew existed?
What did it feel like
for your chirping cries to be ignored,
for your face to be stepped on, to shut you up?
What did it feel like
to have someone watching your final moments
from the safety of his parked car?
Know there was—is—guilt,
but saving you might have killed another.
What was one to do?

Blessings.

A Meditation (Prose + Haiku)
Sitting to meditate. The timer is set—”the Western 15″. Back straight, shoulders back, but not too far back; head titled, eyes shut, and breathe. Attention focused on the point between the eyebrows; feel the slight tingling, as if an army of ants are circling there. Breathe: in—out—in—out—in—out. The mind thinks, because that’s what the mind does. Effort is spent trying to realise that thoughts are not personal. Eyes open, seemingly involuntarily—11 minutes left. Back straight, shoulders back, but not too far back; head titled, eyes shut, breathe; focus, the point between the eyebrows; wait, whilst trying to remember there’s nothing to wait for, nor anything worth remembering.
Thank you on the in;
I am grateful on the out—
a meditation.

Blessings
