Hyperbole or Theology? The Danger of Kirk Franklin’s lyrical Lion and the Lamb

Kirk Franklin has been recently trending in the International Christian music scene. Franklin was performing at a B.E.T rap show for the 2022 Hip-hop Awards. In his performance, he rapped a song that left many confused and upset. The specific part of the song that rattled the Internet was the lyrics that stated, “The Lion and the Lamb will bow down to the goat.” You can watch the entire performance here: https://youtube.com/shorts/jh7DIJ-csnQ?feature=share. If you would like to listen to a short...

10 things we would say to ourselves ten years ago as we entered marriage.

Today is our 10th year marriage anniversary! Ten years ago on the 1st of September 2012, we stood on the green lawns of Brackenhurst in Tigoni and exchanged our vows. As we start counting double-digit revolutions around the sun, we thought to share 10 things we would have loved to hear a decade ago as newlyweds. We sat down yesterday evening and decided to come up with three lists. One by Ernest to the husbands. A second one by Waturi to the wives. And the third one from us to both husbands and ...

I WANT A DIVORCE

“I want a divorce!” One of the most discouraging things to witness in a newly married couple is a lack of grit when facing a minor disagreement. In the past year, we have had newly married men and women write to us on this account. In a nutshell, these newlyweds have had spouses who have used the D word in the middle of an everyday disagreement. The obvious effect of their partner saying “I want a divorce” while in the midst of an ordinary disagreement is that the spouses that wielded those word...

Eight horrible mistakes that seeker-sensitive churches in the USA made

I recently had a brief online discussion with a friend of mine on using a seeker-sensitive approach in reaching out to youth who are not attending church. If you have not heard the term before, seeker sensitivity is an approach by some churches to reach people who do not attend the church through attractive mediums. The attractive mediums are meant to hopefully draw them to start attending church or resume, for those who had left. The attractive mediums may be as follows: surveys to ask those ou...

Father Wounds

Father’s day is coming up. The more years I clock as a father, I cannot help but notice the profound impact that the male parent has on a child. I have understood this impact even more owing to the sessions of counselling I have with couples; many relationship problems between a husband and wife can be traced to father wounds in either one or both of the members of a marriage. I teach a purity program called Powerhouse, where I help men overcome sexual addictions and unlearn unhealthy patterns...

Of Kings, lascivious women and alcohol

Proverbs 31:3‭-‬5 “Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to take strong drink, lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and pervert the rights of all the afflicted.” (ESV)

Proverbs refers to the godly man as a king. He asserts that two things will destroy your kingly nature- women and alcohol. If a righteous man wants a firm hold on his regal life, he must make up his mind...

Companions of Prostitutes

Proverbs 29:3 “A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.” (NIV)

I cannot imagine a more modern common example of being a companion of prostitutes than the consumption of internet pornography. Pornography is but a collection of online prostitution aimed at stifling men sexually.

Proverbs tells us that this companionship with prostitutes is a sure way to hemorrhage wealth. This is statistically true. Men who consume pornography wea...

Destiny and Honour

The doors of destiny swing open on the hinges of honour. David was anointed as God’s chosen King of Israel when he was just a boy. He had to wait for about 15 years for the incumbent King Saul to die. In those 15 years, David served as a hired musician and in military service to King Saul. In a huge portion of those years, David was in exile, fleeing from a murderous and envious King Saul. In all the 15 years, David’s words, actions and attitude never insult, belittle or dishonour the rejected ...

Church Discipline by Jonathan Leeman

Jonathan Leeman’s book is a family member of the 9Marks series. The 9Marks series are a collection of Christian evangelical books that champion the biblical framework of the local church. In this book, the author argues that a vital mark of a local assembly of the Body of Christ is church discipline.

Leeman defines church discipline in the following way, in his own words. “In more specific and formal terms, church discipline is the act of removing an individual from membership in the church...
