Meeting MK Meredith

In a gloomy 2015 April after rather a lot of wine I came to a decision. It was something I’ve wanted to do for a while now, and that moment felt like the right time.

Having had the aforementioned wine, I rose from my desk with a steely determination and swaggered into the kitchen where my husband was busy cooking dinner. Leaning precariously against the wall I took a deep breath before uttering my question. “Can I go to America?”

Of course, he realised this was more of a statement rather than a question. He heard what I meant to say, “I’m going to America, live with it.”

As soon as I got the supportive nod I was there, on Facebook, basically inserting myself into the Meredith household. I booked my flights and promptly filled Facebook with countdowns (to the second) on a regular basis.

MK and I had become great friends over the past two years or so. Apparently I replied to a mutual friends status. The subject matter I don’t recall, she heartily agreed with me by all accounts. I’d not long since penned Falling to Pieces. The first I actually remember is reading MK’s Malibu Betrayals as a beta, prior to its acceptance for publication with Entangled. Anyone who’s read a Meredith book knows what a fine, smooth, writer she is. It’s enviable. However, in that first draft of the book she wrote ‘drug’ instead of ‘dragged’ on several occasions, that caused me to threaten her with violence! That’s where the friendship began in earnest.

I touched down at Washington Dulles on the 22nd of November 2015. One would expect a slight amount of awkwardness between two people who’d never met in the flesh, but honestly, strangely there was nothing. Not an hour after arrival in VA I was sat, feet up, wine in hand, and chatting as though we’d been best buddies for years.

The next day I embarked on a journey to see my cowriter, Matthew Peters, that’s another blog post. I suffer with driving related PTSD and took the road trip to North Carolina in a hire car under the blessing of my therapist. Well, she must have been as crazy as I was because it was awful! Of course my coauthor offered to return me to DC for Thanksgiving. However, that didn’t happen for a number of reasons, and MK was the best friend in the world ever for coming to get me!

We were upright and lofty for Thanksgiving and went around to a friends to spend the day. Brian, MK’s gorgeous husband, and his beautiful friend invited me out to the sidewalk whilst the turkey deep fried to reminisce over military days gone by. It was truly awesome :).

12265845_1659487670935076_2164443750501444949_o

They were wonderful hosts. However, I apparently said something inappropriate and fell asleep with hilarious consequences. It was over twenty-four hours later that I would find out about the pictures…

20151126_204221

BASTARDS! ;) Of course, I was thinking very hard about the plot for my next book!

There is a Meredith household tradition called Finger Food Friday. I’ve been obsessed with it since the start of our friendship. I was not disappointed! FFF is amazing and was well worth the £500 airfare! (Just in case you’re considering it!)

Talking of being inappropriate, we went to a child’s birthday party a few days later. The adults were talking about what I might take back with me. They suggested I might  smuggle wine back if I affixed ladies towels to the bottles, because no-one wants to touch them. I added, “Especially if it’s red wine and the bottles break.” To say the audience were horrified would be putting it mildly. However, MK looked as though she wanted to high five me! LOL! That was pure British humour, so forgive me for thinking she was born in the wrong country.

Later that night we frequented a gorgeous, famous DC steak restaurant, The Palm with the lovely couple, Sean and Gabriel. Again the perfect hosts and an amazing night out. I’ll look forward to my next night out in about a years time. ;)

12295473_10153772980586952_5539250939224193723_n-1

Days seemed to fly by so fast while I was there. It was soon a very sad Monday for different reasons than usual. It was my last whole day in the US. We decided that it was probably time to see some sights. It was raining and we decided to start with lunch at the very posh NOLA. I enjoyed a delicious burger and a glass of wine (of course). That sort of set the tone for the day. We walked over to The Whitehouse in the horrible grey drizzle. MK stopped mid-stride with a horror filled expression. I immediately asked what was wrong. “I left my umbrella at the restaurant.”

I furrowed my brow and looked up at the umbrella above our heads and back down at MK’s still horrified gaze. I raised a brow and pointed up at it. “Do you mean that umbrella?”

My cackle could probably have been heard in The Oval Office! I laughed so hard. I love that girl…

IMG_3684.JPG

So, I was entirely unimpressed by The Whitehouse. It’s tiny. I stated my opinion to a guy standing on guard, and said our palaces are much better. He told me that when it was built they wanted a peoples house, not a grand palace. I scoffed and walked away, feeling a little chastised. When I was ten metres away MK admitted that The Whitehouse is huge and that it goes quite far underground. I had to force myself to continue walking in the other direction so I didn’t go and tell that bad man off for spinning his lies! At least our palaces are honest! Luckily, I spotted a bar which, of course made me walk toward it.

12307972_920446004675447_21926811884517079_o-1.jpg

I was devastated to leave. I adore Target, the petrol and cigarette prices. All the laughs I shared with MK and Co were priceless memories to treasure for a long time to come. I couldn’t have had a better trip if I’d tried. I can’t believe that will be the last time we all get together. I know MK and Brian want to visit Europe! I hope they make it to Old Blighty!

Make sure you check out my video interview with her HERE

Teagan’s Return – Falling Apart – Part One.

I’ve never done this before, I mean posted a story on here. My editing process with Kissing Katie is taking much longer than I expected and the truth of the matter is I’m very unhappy with not writing. I won’t write a whole new Falling book, but, god I miss Teagan. I’ll be posting her story here, when the mood takes me. I hope you guys aren’t too saddened by what you read, but you know what Teagan is like…

He shifted beside me so I willed my eyes to open and for lucidity to come, immediately wishing for the calming blackness that sleep provides to return. I watched the muscles of his smooth pale back contract and release as he sat on the edge of the bed.

I wanted to groan as the memories of the previous nights antics began to trickle into my brain like water being added to potassium to create a fulmination. But, to do so would have alerted him to my conscious state.

I knew the evidence of what I’d done would be there if I wanted to grace it with my eyes. But, I didn’t need to, because I knew. To relive the words over again would merely serve up a dish of further melancholy.

The overwhelming pain in my chest delivered a message that I didn’t want to receive…I’d fucked up again. Pain, not a new thing to me, but this wasn’t a physical thing. The chest pain wasn’t the side effect of a heart attack. How could it be? But, even vampires aren’t immune to the agony that pure emotion produces.

Bartholomew rose and I closed my eyes in response. He may have looked down on me, considering me still to be sleeping, but I rarely looked back at him these days.

I can’t distinguish where along the line our paths forked. I’d always viewed him with an epic admiration. He’d been my deity for the past ten years. The man I adored, respected, and loved above all else.

He’d saved me from myself and showered me with a love so hard that I took the steps away from the path of self-destruction. He made what should have been an exigent journey, effortless. Perhaps, that’s why I edged my way back to the path with a similar ease. Because, to value something you must slave for it.

We’d frolicked through my personal version of the resplendent Garden of Eden. He’d held my hand so tightly. Only I’d prized his fingers away, now I stood beneath the apple tree gazing up with an unfathomable starvation.

“Are you getting up, Teagan?” His softly spoken question was laced with a despondency that I knew I had created with my excessive behaviour.

“Yes. Just give me a moment to think,” I said, keeping my eyes closed to the world both metaphorically and literally speaking.

After savouring a few more moments of numbing blackness my eyes opened followed by that familiar empty feeling resting heavy in the pit of my stomach. It couldn’t have been mistaken for hunger. I’d fed well the previous night on wine-drenched blood after generously sharing the bottles with my victim. No, this emptiness smacked of despair.

I traipsed downstairs, knowing that I must try to think clearly and sit at the head of The Assembly with my husband for the trial of a reckless vampire. What a bittersweet taste, judging and condemning a creature for actions that I myself took on an ever-increasing basis. I almost wanted to laugh, but the release of it didn’t feel appropriate for someone that still possessed an ounce of humanity, albeit well disguised.

“Do you wish to discuss last night?”

I raised a brow. “Why? I don’t recall any specific event.”

He pursed his lips, lowered his head and gazed up at me through hooded lids. “I thought not. You stumbled to bed, your movements uncontrollable with drink. You clawed at your face and expressed your desire to be able to cry. What happened?”

I lowered my head and fisted a hand in my fiery red hair. I recalled precisely the reason I desired to submit to such a human response to pain.

My minds eye tortured me with that apple hanging mercilessly just beyond my grasp.

I untangled my fingers from my hair and straightened my spine for I knew I displayed a reproach in my actions that I couldn’t allow him to see.

“I have no idea, love,” I said with a half decent attempt at nonchalance and offered him a tight smile.

There was no point of dwelling on what had been communicated. It was simply why I continually chose the cataclysmic option over sweet enjoyment that perturbed me. To set myself apart from the entity that I so desired? To alienate myself? I guessed that was the case.

But every night when I awoke to the glint of the moon on my empty wine glass, I experienced nothing short of regret and self-disgust. I think I knew when it started that such an incredible creature would eventually tire of my pernicious drunken debauchery.

Bartholomew beckoned me with his movements toward the door. I followed mindlessly, my brain cemented on the woodsy scent of that tree and the single delicious apple, radiantly flecked with sunshine dangling from its wholesome branches.

I briefly glanced at his face as we travelled to The Assembly’s headquarters, nothing, I felt nothing. We were tied merely by bond and duty. Although that apple seemed no closer to being in my hand, I hoped that as the night drew in that it still wished for me to devour it.

Later, when I raised and sent that gavel crashing down onto the block and sentenced the haphazard vampire to death by absinthe, I decided in that very moment that I had to change or risk breaking the branches of that exquisite tree.

***REVIEW*** Food Lust and Two-Way Glass by JD Lexx (Crimson Confessions)

Before I got settled into my latest read I thought I’d better write the reviews that these two books deserve. I read them very quickly in close succession and life got in the way of me posting the reviews immediately.

4882foodlust510web-430x645

I wasn’t really sure what this book would do for me going into it. I’m married to a head chef that has won more culinary competitions that my walls can stand the weight of. Having said that, I’m not really a ‘foodie’. I used to be, but after years of never making the grade in the kitchen, I gave up. Who wouldn’t? Okay, I probably wouldn’t have if Chef Marco had been my teacher.

Jessica is a tragic singleton who is forced to attend a stuffy social gathering with a friend. The audiences appetites are whet for more than just the food. Every woman is vying for the attention of the gorgeous Italian chef, Marco. They are practically tripping over themselves to be his sous chef for the evening.

Jessica decides that the snooty soiree isn’t for her and makes to leave. Chef Marco selects her to be his sous chef before she manages to escape.

The banter and electric flirtation between the two sends sparks flying off the page and leaves you in a giggly, excited mess. When the evening comes to an end you’ll be left hungry for more…no, starving.

sugar_lips-1680x1050

Jessica had given Marco a fake name, and I’m guessing she was living to regret that when she became throughly infatuated with the man that she’d spent the evening behind the kitchen counter with. She has a second chance when a raffle for a private evening with the celebrity chef himself is announced. Jessica greedily hoards tickets for the event and silently prays that her ship will come in. Of course, it does…

This part of the book is what truly made me sit up straight. I’m not that fond of sharp implements, I have a tendency to cut myself by even looking at a knife. Also, I have a horrific ‘fingers being chopped off’ phobia. But, excuse my language, Christ Almighty! When he cut her bra off with a kitchen knife I almost wanted to go to the kitchen and have a go on myself.

The clever playfulness and the smooth, seamless effect of the writing is also something that shouldn’t go without being mentioned. JD Lexx is truly a master of his craft.

However, the plot thickens. Jessica didn’t win that raffle prize after all. Chef Marco had spent time and effort to track her down. There’s nothing more of a turn on than a man who’s willing to go after what he wants…

This is the only book of Mr. Lexx’s that I have read written from a male point of view. If you’re looking for romance then this isn’t the book for you, but, you would be missing out if you decided to give it a miss.

This book, in my humble opinion, is a testosterone fuelled game of sexual gratification with the most inspiring and erotic scenes I’ve ever had the pleasure to read.

The game begins when big city lawyer, Morgan Parker, gets the promotion he’s worked hard for, he moves to his new office on the upper floor of the building. There lies, in the rival law firms office across the way, a mind-blowing and beautiful distraction. Sirena. Let the games begin…

F7A1V0XXV9

An immensely erotic and voyeuristic game of one-upmanship begins between the two, and Morgan becomes obsessed with beating his beautiful rival at the sexual cat and mouse game.

Lexx pens with such intensity that it forces you to experience and relish the raw and carnal desire that Morgan himself is feeling. Despite the lack of feeling other than the strong desire to win, I connected well with Mr. Parker and actually egged him on. I’d say it was a draw between the two in the end, a draw with a spine-tingling effect.

Excitement, rivalry and panty wetting scenes of an office affair will keep you turning the pages of this amazing book and wishing there was simply more of it in the end.

***REVIEW***Order of the Orchidarion (A Crimson Confession Book 3) by JD Lexx

25842982

I’ll start this review with a question, a very strange question. Have you ever been turned on by a flower?

I like flowers as much of the rest of them, I trained to be a Florist but never stuck at it. It’s always handy to point out that I grew up in Birmingham, the UK’s second largest city…and, well, not a lot grows there. My daughter is called Lily, and I even chucked a few seeds down this year. The flowers look lovely, though some of them have died and I haven’t been so inclined as to head over to the bed and sort them out.

So, we’ve established that I’m okay with flowers. I like them. But, bloody hell, I got turned on by a flower today.

I happened across JD Lexx on Facebook. He spoke of his writing and promised what I would call cleverly written erotica. Another author that I met, going some years back now, spoke of the same thing. If I’m entirely honest I thought it was godawful. Imagine: a porn movie where they are all speaking in Olde English. Yeah, not that easy to get off on if you have to keep pausing the movie to look up a sentence that you didn’t understand. Then you get mad and give up when you discover that the actor was merely saying, “Harder, faster. Oh, yes, baby, that hit the spot.” For gods sake why didn’t he just say that!

JD kindly offered me a book for my reading pleasure, I didn’t so much decline as not reply. Oh, no, no, no. I’ve been backed into these corners before and I hate being asked if I like something by someone I rather like, because I’m nothing if not honest.

However, curiosity led me to where I’m sitting now. I bought this book. Yes, it’s clever and intelligent erotica and the effect it’s had on me has scared me a little to say the least.

It’s a very fast read, most likely a novella? Perhaps smaller. Having said that, I don’t think I could have took the intensity for much longer. The story begins in first person from an eighteen year old, Christine’s, point of view. She is embarking on a chance of a lifetime to be trained to become an Orchidologist by the very gorgeous Dr. Richard Mitchell.

She spends three years in close proximity to this very sexy and intense man, pushing the boundaries and blurring the lines. Eventually, on her twenty-first birthday she plucks up the courage to ask him to take the test that will propel her to his level and set her apart from the rest…The Orchidarion.

What happened during that test was some of the sexiest writing, written in the cleverest of ways. Frankly, it blew my mind. It wasn’t what I assumed it would be, it wasn’t complicated, it was intricate and intimate. I loved, savored and enjoyed every last word of this book, and I’m hereby proclaiming myself to be a JD Lexx fan.

With all that said, I’m off to buy some Orchids and a riding crop. You need to get to wherever you get your books from and buy this one!

Five, erm…erotic Orchids.

About the author

11825783_1639637802919465_4262436920485435541_n

International attorney, award-winning journalist and last of a modest raconteur bloodline, J.D. Lexx has been a storyteller for most of his life, and a student of humanity for even longer. Perhaps it’s no wonder that he takes such pleasure in the subtle tease of the written word, in kindling curiosity with every shared tale and then daring the imagination to continue on beyond “The End”.

A traveler by nature, Lexx spends most of his time between the frenzied streets of New York and the slower pace of New Orleans’ Vieux Carré. When not exploring the sensual psyche through his writing, he can usually be found honing his skills in the kitchen or working alongside charitable organizations to promote literacy and tolerance–two causes not only reflected in his work but forever dear to his heart.

The journey of Kissing Cassie.

My latest release Kissing Cassie was delivered (hopefully) into the hands of readers yesterday. For me, it was a beautiful moment. It’s been a whopping fifteen months since my last book Falling into You came out.

red-love-heart-old

Poor Cassie and Jared were thrown in and out of my mind so many times that I’m surprised it’s ever seen the light of day. I started writing it almost immediately after finishing Falling into You, the story was born from a dream I had the night before going on holiday to the island of Majorca. It involved Alexander Skarsgard, me and my old office under the stairs. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. I wrote up the full plot whilst I was on holiday and all Cassie had to do was wait for the end of Falling into You to come.

beach-sand-drink

During that writing time a lot happened, by then I was working full-time, had two children to care for. My daughter started school just before we moved house. The house move is an entire story by itself and can be found somewhere on this blog. It was traumatic to say the least.

61C38E9964

Anyway, I managed to finish around January and started editing right away. It went to two beta readers, Ameel Koro and Glenda Hutchings. They both offered sound and extensive advice, after so much re-writing it definitely needed another read through. It landed in the hands of Allan Coulton, Nicci Skelding, Darlene Suber, Nicole Kiyo and Lynn Mulligan Peterson. I made a few further fixes from there and read it what felt like a million times. Then I began the most terrifying task of any writers life…I submitted to publishers.

LRVJCBJ7B5

I had an offer within a few days. If Cassie was going to a home, it had to be a good one. After further investigation I reached the decision that neither she or I belonged there. I was then to suffer the pain of rejection on several occasions. One in particular made me want to throw it in the bin.

On the 26th of June my dreams came true. I had an offer from an excellent publisher. One that I knew I’d be more than happy to work with!

Unknown

This is where being an indie author and a published author becomes very different. I’m a self-confessed control freak. Lets just say, RP were amazing, and I’m confident that they’ve helped make Kissing Cassie the best she possibly can be. Michele Paulin is my editor and I adore her, she helped what could have been a rocky transition for me as smooth as glass . The fact that this was my first time writing contemporary romance, and third person, became abundantly clear throughout the editing process. I wanted to punch myself several times!

D1D9DFDE28

I really hope you’ll see the difference in my writing, I’d be really interested in your thoughts. In good old L.T. Kelly fashion, I’m still a little non-conformist and I love a good twist ;).

So without further rambling. Here goes. Introducing Kissing Cassie…

Kissing Cassie

This Hollywood heart throb doesn’t know how to take no for an answer and is willing to leap any hurdle to get the woman he wants…

When high school drama teacher Cassie Thornton finds herself drowning in a failing marriage, she struggles to get her head above water. Her husband, Robert, is a workaholic science professor at Oxford University with a sordid secret. After eight years of marriage, Robert’s blatant disinterest in her forces Cassie to demand they go on a vacation, hoping it will reunite them.

Gorgeous Jared Peterson is the cream of Hollywood actors. His squeaky clean image, coupled with his outstanding results at the box office, has earned him respect industry wide. That’s until his cunning fiancé and co-star goes on a rampage, setting out to destroy his reputation. How else could he cope with her betrayal except to escape Tinseltown?

When Cassie and Jared meet on the island of Majorca, it sparks a life changing chemistry between them. Jared refuses to continue with his career without her by his side. Cassie must decide whether to give up life as she knows it or leave it all behind to give their love a chance.
