Untitled Venetian adventure
Just finished the first draft of my 16th century novel about Venetian merchants, Ottoman sailors and Barbary Pirates. I'm thinking of calling it "The Merchant, the Janissary and the Corsair."
Whatever the ends up being this novel is an epic swashbuckling adventure filled with romance and sea battles.
It's also an historical novel that dramatizes important events in the Mediterranean world which the novel explores.
I was fascinated by what I learned of the history of this era.

Unholy Gathering
That's the title of my sixth Falco Adventure. I've completed a second draft but have put it aside to work on my 16th Century Historical novel about the Venetian Empire.
I find a grand pause in editing enables me to come back to the piece with fresh eyes and thoughts to both illuminate and improve my work.

Latest novel
I'm reading "Empires of the Sea: The Siege of Malta, the Battle of Lepanto, and the Contest for the Center of the World" by Roger Crowley for part of my research for my latest novel, yet untitled.
It's a fascinating era that's been under-served by the history courses I took. The struggles of those times reflect many of the events that color the current state of the world.
My protagonist is a Greek who was kidnapped by Turks as a boy and conscripted into their navy. He helps a Venetian sea captain, much to the chagrin of his vengeful Ottoman commander.
I want the details to be as accurate as possible as I weave my characters into actual historical events.

The Gathering
That's my tentative title for my sixth Falco book.
It begins as an origin story recounting how Victor Orloff became a vampire and illuminates his mission in his undead life.
His journey brings him to 1888 London and Whitechapel. Cut to Falco in present day Detroit and know that his journey will lead the way to the Carpathian Mountains of Romania.

The Brothers Tremaine
An old college friend who's become a Ph.D and English Professor at Memphis State finished reading a proof of my book and emailed me that it was finely written, finely plotted and that I am a fine writer.
It was gratifying to hear from him and I am truly gratified for his words. He's going to pitch it to a committee Friday for it to be included in the Fall Syllabus for a class in African-American literature.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.

The Brothers Tremaine
I finally advanced to the next stage of publishing this novel. After uploading my document to CreateSpace I downloaded a reformatted 6x9 document. It's amazing that my 380 pages of 8-1/2x11 turned into 575 pages of 6x9. Not that length should be indicative of quality, but I feel the novel is absorbing, interesting and exciting. Any shorter would have not done justice to my vision.
It's about four brothers, two black, two white who grew up on a plantation in the Old South, fought on opposite sides in the Civil War and become reunited out West.
My next task is to complete the cover and spine. I hope to complete it before the month is done.

The Noble Heart
My eighth novel, "The Noble Heart", is now available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle. It's the unlikely sequel to "Faithless Heart" and a breezy read to boot.
I hope all who give it a chance will enjoy it as much as I do.

The Brothers Tremaine
I continue to work on my ninth novel, "The Brothers Tremaine". It's truly an epic work, starting in the Old South, continuing through the Civil War, the road West and the return to Georgia.
I abandoned this in 2013 and am gratified that I'm one the cusp of completing a work that's spent years in my imagination.

Editing progress
This book was interesting in that I reviewed and corrected the previous day's writing before starting on the next. I caught a lot of errors and made a lot of changes that way.
It still amazes me how ma This book was interesting in that I reviewed and corrected the previous day's writing before starting on the next. I caught a lot of errors and made a lot of changes that way.
It still amazes me how many changes beg to be made in essentially the third pass through the book.
After I make the changes I'm working on I suppose I'll have to print out another copy and read it again before uploading the novel for consumption. Arduous process indeed! ...more
