How Do You Treat People Who Serve You?

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Luke 6:31 (NIV)

One of the greatest tests of your character is how you treat people who are trying to serve you. Whether it’s a waitress, a waiter, a clerk, an employee, a secretary, your children, or your spouse, how you treat those who serve you tells me a great deal about you.

In fact, when I was involved in hiring decisions of church staff, I often took people to restaurants to see how they interacted with the server. Someone who was rude and demanding in those situations has a character flaw that I didn’t want as part of our team.

Jesus tells us, “Do to others as you would have them do to you” (Luke 6:31 NIV). That may be the simplest yet most important character test in the Bible.

Social psychologist Eric Hoffer once said, “Rudeness is the weak man’s imitation of strength.” It takes no intelligence at all to be rude.

The best place to practice this important character trait of respect is at home. More marriages are ruined by rudeness than anything else. When I used to do marriage counseling, I was amazed at how many marriages are buried by one little dig after another.

Have you noticed that sometimes we’re the most disrespectful to the people we care about the most? Our homes should be safe places to express our emotions and practice forgiveness and grace—but they are too often the place where we think we can get away with the most unkindness. I know people who treat their families in ways they would never treat a stranger. Yet even in our families—especially in our families—we need to be understanding, not demanding, and forgiving, not finding fault.

Courtesy is just love in the little things. It’s showing grace, because we understand there are hidden hurts everywhere. It’s showing respect for people by being kind, even in the smallest areas of our lives.

Cinco Razones Para Servir a Dios

¿Cómo sirves a Dios? Sirviendo a los demás.

En la parábola de las ovejas y las cabras, Jesús dijo: “Les digo la verdad, cuando hicieron alguna de estas cosas al más insignificante de estos, mis hermanos, ¡me lo hicieron a mí!” Mateo 25:40 (NTV). Cuando haces algo que mejora la vida de otra persona de alguna manera, estás sirviendo a Dios.

Algunas personas sirven por culpa, deber o presión. Pero Dios quiere que sirvas en agradecimiento por lo que ha hecho por ti. Él te creó, te salvó y te llevará al cielo. La gratitud es el mejor motivador para servir.

Aquí hay cinco cosas que la Biblia dice acerca de servir a Dios:

Servir es uno de tus propósitos de vida. Marcos 8:35 dice: “Si tratas de aferrarte a la vida, la perderás; pero si entregas tu vida por mi causa y por causa de la Buena Noticia, la salvarás” (NTV). Hasta que no aprendas a servir, no estarás viviendo, sólo existiendo. Te ganas la vida con lo que recibes, pero construyes una vida con lo que das.Servir te hace más como Jesús. Mateo 20:28 dice: “Pues ni aun el Hijo del Hombre vino para que le sirvan, sino para servir a otros y para dar su vida en rescate por muchos” (NTV). Si no aprendes a servir a los demás, nunca alcanzarás la madurez espiritual. De hecho, serás un bebé espiritual toda tu vida.Servir es el mayor uso de tu tiempo. 1 Corintios 15:58 dice: “Por lo tanto, mis amados hermanos, permanezcan fuertes y constantes. Trabajen siempre para el Señor con entusiasmo, porque ustedes saben que nada de lo que hacen para el Señor es inútil” (NTV). Si quieres tener un impacto y dejar un legado, el mayor uso de tu tiempo será servir a Dios sirviendo a los demás. Tu servicio al Señor nunca es en vano.Servir es el secreto de la grandeza. Mateo 20:26 dice: “Pero entre ustedes será diferente. El que quiera ser líder entre ustedes deberá ser sirviente” (NTV). La verdadera grandeza proviene del servicio, no de vivir para uno mismo. Los mejores líderes son los que más sirven.Servir será recompensado en el cielo. Jesús dijo en Marcos 10:29-30: “—Así es —respondió Jesús—, y les aseguro que todo el que haya dejado casa o hermanos o hermanas o madre o padre o hijos o bienes por mi causa y por la Buena Noticia recibirá ahora a cambio cien veces más el número de casas, hermanos, hermanas, madres, hijos y bienes, junto con persecución; y en el mundo que vendrá, esa persona tendrá la vida eterna” (NTV). En última instancia, tu verdadero jefe es Jesús. Y Él te recompensará un día por todo lo que has hecho por Él. ¡Eso es una garantía!

¿Qué tan apasionado eres por servir a Dios? ¿Podría tu entusiasmo usar un impulso? Dios quiere que pienses de manera diferente acerca de servir y que “No sean nunca perezosos, más bien trabajen con esmero y sirvan al Señor con entusiasmo” Romanos 12:11 (NTV).

You Can Disagree Without Being Disagreeable

“Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one other.”

Romans 14:12-13 (NIV)

Many people, including Christians, think they only have to show respect for people with whom they agree. Nothing could be further from the truth! In today’s world, there are many activities in our society that I, as a believer, dislike and actions I clearly disagree with.

But I still show people respect, even if I know their behavior is wrong.

Why?

First, I remember that ultimately every individual will be accountable to God for their own attitudes, actions, and behaviors. One day God will settle the score. Each of us will have to give an account for our behavior.

Second, I’m not God. The people I disagree with aren’t accountable to me. They’re accountable to God. It is not my job to run around trying to make everyone who isn’t a believer act like they are believers. In fact, the Bible says people can’t act the way God wants them to act until they have a relationship with him.

The Bible says, “Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another” (Romans 14:12-13 NIV). It isn’t judgmental to tell the truth to people. If someone is doing something the Bible says is wrong, it’s not being judgmental to tell that person it’s wrong. That’s just telling people the truth. It is judgmental to take the truth and beat people over the head with it, as if you are morally superior.

You can disagree with someone without being disagreeable. Honestly, some of the rudest people I’ve ever met were overly zealous Christians who were so committed to the truth that they didn’t really care about people.

You can be right about an issue, but if you aren’t speaking the truth to people in love, you’re not following what the Bible says. Let’s choose to demonstrate the kind of respect Jesus wants us to show others, even when it’s difficult.

Cuenta con Dios para Hacer lo Imposible

“Pues la palabra de Dios nunca dejará de cumplirse” Lucas 1:37 (NTV)

Nunca dejes que una situación imposible te intimide. ¿Por qué? Porque nada es imposible para Dios.

La Biblia dice: “Pues la palabra de Dios nunca dejará de cumplirse” Lucas 1:37 (NTV).

En lugar de sentirte intimidado por una situación aparentemente imposible, deja que te motive a orar más, creer más, confiar más, esperar más y depender más de Dios.

No importa cuán imposible pueda parecer una situación; puedes estar seguro de que “Dios, quien comenzó la buena obra en ustedes, la continuará hasta que quede completamente terminada el día que Cristo Jesús vuelva” Filipenses 1:6 (NTV).

Lo que Dios comienza en tu vida, Él lo terminará.

Si sacaras el diccionario de mi oficina y buscaras la palabra “imposible”, encontrarías que no está allí, porque la recorté. Decidí que, si no está en el diccionario de Dios, no estará en el mío.

Hudson Taylor, un misionero de la década de 1800, dijo esto acerca de Dios haciendo lo imposible en nuestras vidas: “Hay tres etapas en cada gran obra de Dios; primero es imposible, luego es difícil, luego está hecho”.

Pero Satanás no quiere que creas que nada es imposible para Dios. Te dirá una y otra vez: “¿Quién te crees que eres? No puedes hacer eso. ¿Qué te hace pensar que puedes ser un hombre o una mujer de Dios?” Cuando crees y confías en Dios para lo imposible en tu vida, es una vergüenza para el Diablo.

Tal vez estés en lo que parece una situación imposible en este momento. Mira a Dios y confía en sus promesas, y observa cómo tu situación pasa de lo imposible a lo posible, y luego a su fin.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué te gustaría que Dios hiciera en tu vida que parece imposible en este momento?Si realmente creyeras que nada es imposible para Dios, ¿cómo se vería diferente la próxima semana para ti?¿Cuándo has visto a Dios haciendo lo imposible, ya sea en tu vida o en la de otra persona?

¿Has confiado en la promesa de salvación de Dios?

Dios puede hacer lo aparentemente imposible en tu vida, y eso comienza con tu salvación. ¿Has confiado en él para perdonar tus pecados y aceptarte en su familia?

Si estás listo para entregar tu vida a Jesús, entonces haz esta oración:

Y te agradezco que no tengo que ganar ni trabajar para mi salvación, porque sé que eso es imposible. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Every Person Is Worthy of Respect

“Show proper respect to everyone.”

1 Peter 2:17 (NIV)

Respect has become an endangered value.

Yet the Bible makes it clear that stable families—and stable societies—are built around respect. The Bible commands us to honor our parents, respect civil authority, and respect church leaders. Wives are called to respect husbands in Ephesians. In the book of 1 Peter, husbands are called to respect wives. Just to make it clear that God leaves no one out, the Bible also says, “Show proper respect to everyone” (1 Peter 2:17 NIV).

Everyone, regardless of beliefs or behaviors, is worthy of respect.

Why?

God made everyone. Psalm 8:5 says, “You made them inferior only to yourself; you crowned them with glory and honor” (GNT). God doesn’t make junk. No one is worthless. People make wrong decisions, but they are still valuable to God. Even the most unlovable person in the world is loved by God. When you show someone respect, you show them their value as God’s creation.

Jesus died for everyone. The Bible says, “God paid a ransom to save you . . . he paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19 TLB). You may not place much value in certain people, but God does. In fact, he says every person you meet is worth dying for. Doesn’t that change the way you look at people?

It shows you know God. The Bible tells us that God is love. If you know God, then you’ll fill your life with love. The Bible says, “If a person isn’t loving and kind, it shows that he doesn’t know God—for God is love” (1 John 4:8 TLB). Love always treats people with respect.

You’ll get back whatever you give out. It’s the law of the harvest. Whatever goes around comes around. If you want to be respected, then treat other people with respect. Galatians 6:7 says, “You will always harvest what you plant” (NLT).

By learning to love each other, we become “eager to show respect for one another” (Romans 12:10 GNT). You’ll more easily respect others when you recognize what God has done for them and try to love them more like he does.

No Dejes de Soñar Sueños Grandes

Dios regala a cada uno sueños diferentes para que todos sus propósitos se cumplan en el mundo. Es por eso por lo que te apasionan algunas cosas y te importan menos otras. Dios te creó para ser tú. Y eres responsable de cumplir con el sueño que te dio.

Pero ¿cómo sabes si tu sueño es de Dios? Hay dos maneras de saberlo. Uno, un sueño dado por Dios de alguna manera ayudará a otros; no será egocéntrico. Y, dos, un sueño que Dios te dé será tan grande que no podrás lograrlo por tu propia fuerza. Es como si Dios dijera: “El sueño que tengo para ti es tan grande que estás destinado a fracasar si no dependes de mí”.

Muchas personas se abstienen de tener grandes sueños, y con frecuencia los escuchará decir una de estas tres cosas:

“No tengo sueños porque me dan temor”. Bueno, por supuesto que dan temor. Por eso los sueños requieren fe. Cada decisión importante que tomé en más de 40 años como pastor de la Iglesia Saddleback, me dieron tremendo terror. Es por eso, que desde hace mucho tiempo, decidí no basar mi vida en el temor y, en cambio, simplemente hacer lo que más temo.

Eso es valor. Si no tienes temor, no necesitas valor. El valor no es la ausencia del temor. El valor es cuando haces lo que sabes que Dios te ha dicho que hagas, aunque sientas un gran temor.

“No voy tras mi sueño porque no tengo paz al respecto”. La verdad es que no vas a tener paz acerca de un sueño hasta que des el primer paso hacia él. Dios no te da la paz que necesitas antes de dar el paso. Por supuesto que tienes temores, pero cuando te metes en el agua y ves que las olas vienes pero se van de nuevo, llega la paz.“Solía ​​tener un sueño, pero nunca sucedió”. Si Dios te ha dado un sueño y aún no se ha hecho realidad, no te desesperes. Siempre hay un retraso entre el sueño y la realización. De hecho, los retrasos son parte del viaje porque Dios los usa para edificar tu fe. El tiempo de Dios siempre es perfecto.

What Should You Do on the Sabbath?

“You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me.”

Exodus 20:9-10 (GNT)

We each must consciously decide to make time for things other than work. If we don’t, we’ll never rest. We’ll quickly burn out!

It’s like a bow and arrow. When a bow is constantly strung tight, it loses its power. It has to be unstrung periodically. You need to force yourself to set realistic hours and then hold yourself accountable—and ask someone to check up on you in the process.

Getting proper rest isn’t pop psychology or just good advice. It’s so important to the heart of God that he put it in the Ten Commandments—along with “Do not murder,” “Do not lie,” and “Do not steal.” “Take a day off every seven days” made it on God’s top 10 list of moral choices. Shouldn’t it make it on ours, too?

The Bible says, “You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me” (Exodus 20:9-10 GNT). We call this the Sabbath, which simply means a “day of rest.” What should you do on your Sabbath?

Rest your body. If you don’t take time off, your body will make you take time off. Your back will go out. You’ll get a headache. You’ll get the flu. God didn’t design our bodies to go without rest. That’s why sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do on your Sabbath is take a nap!

Recharge your emotions. Everyone does this differently. For some, recharging happens through quietness. Others rejuvenate through recreation. Still others reenergize through relationships. Discover what it takes to recharge your emotions, and make it a regular part of your Sabbath.

Refocus your spirit. You need to worship on your Sabbath. Take time to focus on God instead of all your problems. Worship puts everything else in perspective. It shrinks your problems. It reminds you that God is still on his throne and he’ll help you through whatever you’re facing. Suddenly the problem you’ve stressed over all week long won’t be nearly as big anymore.

We all need a Sabbath in our lives. It doesn’t have to be on Sunday. It can be any day of the week, but you need to take one day off each week to rest your body, recharge your emotions, and refocus your spirit.

Dos Maneras en que Dios Hace Crecer tu Fe

¿Cómo Dios hace crecer una fe tan fuerte como esa?

La primera manera en que Dios hace crecer tu fe es a través de su Palabra. Él quiere que conozcas la Biblia: que leas la Biblia, escuches la Biblia, estudies la Biblia, memorices la Biblia y hables sobre la Biblia. ¿Por qué? Porque la Palabra de Dios dice: “Así que la fe viene por oír, es decir, por oír la Buena Noticia acerca de Cristo” Romanos 10:17 (NTV).

Si tu fe es débil, es probable que no estés en la Biblia muy a menudo. Pero cuanto más estés en el libro de Dios, más alimentará tu alma. La Palabra de Dios es alimento para el alma, y ​​pasar tiempo en ella es la manera más fácil de hacer crecer tu fe.

La segunda forma en que Dios hace crecer tu fe es la forma difícil, y eso es a través de circunstancias que te ponen a prueba. Tus circunstancias son lo que Dios usa más a menudo para hacer crecer tu fe y edificar tu carácter.

La fe es como un músculo. No puedes hacer crecer un músculo sin algún tipo de resistencia. La única forma de hacer crecer un músculo es estirándolo, probándolo y poniendo peso sobre él. Lo mismo es cierto con la fe. No creces en la fe simplemente sentándote y diciendo: “Oh, quiero más fe”. La fe necesita ser probada. Así que Dios permite que las circunstancias en tu vida desarrollen la fuerza de tu fe.

Debido a que Dios se preocupa tanto por tu fe, puedes saber que siempre responderá a esta oración: “Muéstranos cómo aumentar nuestra fe” Lucas 17:5 (NTV). Haz de esta tu oración a medida que Dios hace crecer tu fe a través de su Palabra y de las circunstancias que te pongan a prueba.

You’re not God. You don’t have all the answers. You can’t do everything. If you’re struggling to find balance in your life, those admissions can transform everything.

The Bible says, “Only someone too stupid to find his way home would wear himself out with work” (Ecclesiastes 10:15 GNT).

It’s foolish to wear yourself out with work. Do you realize that when you overwork, you’re playing God? It’s a way of saying that it all depends on you, that everything will crash down if you don’t keep the world spinning.

That’s just not true! You’re not the general manager of the universe. The universe will not fall apart if you take time to rest and balance your life. God has it under control.

Often we do this to ourselves because we’re trying to please everyone. Learn this lesson today: You can’t please everyone. Even God can’t please everyone! One person wants it to rain. Another one wants it to be sunny. It’s absurd to try doing what even God can’t do.

When you live for the expectations of others, you pile a ton of “shoulds” on your shoulders. You may think, “I should work more hours,” “I should be as active as all the other parents,” or “I should volunteer for this project.” But realize this: No one is forcing you to do those things. Overworking is your choice. You choose to take on the extra work or to say “no.” And you choose the consequences that come with your choice.

When you deny your humanity and try to do it all, you’re robbing God of his glory. The Bible declares this in 2 Corinthians 4:7: “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us” (NIV).

Paul reminds us that we’re human beings. We’re feeble and fragile. Jars of clay break easily. If you drop them, they shatter. Clay pots have to be handled appropriately and with care. If not, they’ll be destroyed.

But the good news is that through our feebleness, God’s power and glory shine through. Your humanity isn’t something to hide. Instead, you can celebrate the power of God working through your limitations.

So admit it: You’re human. Thank God for that!

No Tengas Miedo de Correr Riesgos

“Al que puede hacer muchísimo más que todo lo que podamos imaginarnos o pedir, por el poder que obra eficazmente en nosotros”. Efesios 3:20 (NVI)

¿Qué significa tener una fe valiente? Significa tomar riesgos.

La Biblia dice: “En realidad, sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios, ya que cualquiera que se acerca a Dios tiene que creer que él existe y que recompensa a quienes lo buscan” Hebreos 11:6 (NVI).

Ves un ejemplo de tomar riesgos en la parábola de los talentos. En Mateo 25, Jesús cuenta la historia de un hombre que se alejó por un tiempo y le dio a sus siervos algunos “talentos”, una gran cantidad de dinero. A uno le dio un talento, a otro dos talentos y a otro cinco talentos.

La persona de cinco talentos invirtió su dinero y lo duplicó. La persona de dos talentos lo invirtió y obtuvo dos talentos más. Cuando el amo volvió y vio lo que habían hecho, les dijo: “Su señor le respondió: “¡Hiciste bien, siervo bueno y fiel! Has sido fiel en lo poco; te pondré a cargo de mucho más. ¡Ven a compartir la felicidad de tu señor!” Mateo 25:23 (NVI).

Pero la persona a la que se le había dado un talento tuvo miedo, así que escondió su talento en la tierra. Cuando el amo vio esto, dijo: “Pero su señor respondió: “¡Siervo malo y perezoso! ¿Así que sabías que cosecho donde no he sembrado y recojo donde no he esparcido? Pues debías haber depositado mi dinero en el banco, para que a mi regreso lo hubiera recibido con intereses” Mateo 25:26-27 (NVI).

La lección que Jesús quiere que aprendamos es esta: Dios quiere que tomes riesgos en la fe. Si aprovechas al máximo lo que te ha dado, entonces te darán aún más. Pero si tienes miedo y no te arriesgas, en realidad estás siendo infiel, no estás actuando con fe, con lo que Dios te ha dado.

Recuerdo cuando la Iglesia Saddleback estaba comprando nuestro campus de 120 acres en el condado de Orange, California. La gente de la comunidad comenzó a preguntar: “¿Quiénes se creen que son esas personas que compran tanto terreno en el condado de Orange?”.

Cuando los escuché, pensé: “Pregunta incorrecta”. La pregunta correcta es: “¿Quién creemos que es Dios?” Entonces dejamos que el tamaño de nuestro Dios determine el tamaño de nuestra meta.

Efesios 3:20 dice: “Al que puede hacer muchísimo más que todo lo que podamos imaginarnos o pedir, por el poder que obra eficazmente en nosotros” (NTV).

Entonces, adelante, toma grandes riesgos y ten una fe audaz. Porque Dios te dice: “¡Puedo tomar tu sueño más grande y superarlo!”
