Estudia lo que es Real para Detectar lo que no es Verdadero

“Me das tanta sabiduría que no soporto la mentira. ¡Tu palabra es para mí más dulce que la miel!”.   Salmo 119:103 (TLA)

La única manera para realmente reconocer lo que es falso es conocer lo que es real. El Departamento del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos, entrena a sus agentes para encontrar billetes falsos dándoles billetes auténticos para que los examinen, toquen y reconozcan. Hay muchas formas de falsificar, pero solo hay una versión de los billetes reales.

Así que, un buen principio educativo es estudiar lo que es real para poder detectar lo que no es verdadero. Ese es el por qué es tan importante estudiar la Palabra de Dios. Al conocer una verdad bíblica, somos capaces de detectar falsas enseñanzas.

Muchas personas hoy caen por ideas equivocadas debido a que no conocen la verdad. Y como no saben lo que es auténtico, tampoco pueden saber lo que es mentira.

El salmista escribió, “Me das tanta sabiduría que no soporto la mentira. ¡Tu palabra es para mí más dulce que la miel!”  Salmo 119:103 (TLA).

Así que, ¿Cómo podemos sacar más tiempo para pasar en la Palabra de Dios?

Usar menos tiempo en frente de las pantallas. Usar menos tiempo en los dispositivos. Usar menos tiempo apoyando el equipo favorito.

Cuando un estudiante americano se gradúa de la secundaria en estos días, él o ella han usado más de 30,000 horas en frente de una pantalla (incluyendo juegos de video, tabletas, portátiles y televisores).

¿Sabes cuánto tiempo se tarda en leer la Biblia completa —todos los 66 libros? Toma sólo 80 horas.

Así que, tenemos el tiempo. La pregunta es, “¿Cómo usamos nuestro tiempo?” Dios nos dio su Palabra para darnos la sabiduría que necesitamos para vivir una vida plena y productiva.

You’re Not God—Stop Acting Like It!

“Only someone too stupid to find his way home would wear himself out with work.”

Ecclesiastes 10:15 (GNT)

You’re not God. You don’t have all the answers. You can’t do everything. If you’re struggling to find balance in your life, those admissions can transform everything.

The Bible says, “Only someone too stupid to find his way home would wear himself out with work” (Ecclesiastes 10:15 GNT).

It’s foolish to wear yourself out with work. Do you realize that when you overwork, you’re playing God? It’s a way of saying that it all depends on you, that everything will crash down if you don’t keep the world spinning.

That’s just not true! You’re not the general manager of the universe. The universe will not fall apart if you take time to rest, if you take time to balance your life. God has it under control.

Often we do this to ourselves because we’re trying to please everyone. Learn this lesson today: You can’t please everyone. Even God can’t please everyone! One person wants it to rain. Another one wants it to be sunny. It’s absurd to try doing what even God can’t do.

When you live for the expectations of others, you pile a ton of “shoulds” on your shoulders. You may think, “I should work more hours,” “I should be as active as all the other parents,” or “I should volunteer for this project.” But realize this: No one is forcing you to do those things. Overworking is your choice. You choose to take on the extra work or not to take it on. And you choose the consequences that come with your choice.

When you deny your humanity and try to do it all, you’re robbing God of his glory. The Bible declares this in 2 Corinthians 4:7: “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us” (NIV).

Paul reminds us that we’re human beings. We’re feeble and fragile. Jars of clay break easily. If you drop them, they shatter. Clay pots have to be handled appropriately and with care. If not, they’ll be destroyed.

But the good news is that through our feebleness, the power and glory of God shine through. Your humanity isn’t something to hide. Instead, you can celebrate the power of God working through your limitations.

So admit it: You’re human. Thank God for that!

El Éxito del Aprendizaje empieza con la Inmersión en la Palabra de Dios

“Nunca dejes de leer el libro de la Ley; estúdialo de día y de noche, y ponlo en práctica, para que tengas éxito en todo lo que hagas”.  Josué 1:8 (TLA)

Para sobresalir realmente en lo que sea que estés aprendiendo (ya sea una nueva habilidad, una nueva teoría o acerca de una nueva persona), debes primero sumergirte en la Palabra de Dios.

Yo elegí la palabra “sumergirte” intencionalmente. ¿Sabes lo que significa sumergir una bolsa de té? Traes una bolsa de té, la sumerges en agua caliente, y la mueves de arriba hacia abajo. Pero no puedes hacerlo rápido, necesitas hacerlo lentamente, o sino no tendrás nada de té. Cuando haces eso, extraes todo el sabor de esa bolsa de té.

Necesitas hacer lo mismo con la Palabra de Dios si quieres sobresalir en lo que sea que estés aprendiendo. No puedes hacerlo rápido. Yo creo en la lectura rápida. Lo hago frecuentemente. Pero nunca leo la Biblia rápido. La leo lentamente, palabra por palabra. ¿Por qué? Porque en la Biblia cada Palabra de Dios es pura.

Antes de aprender algo, comienza con sumergirte en la Palabra de Dios. Esa es la clave para ser exitoso.

Todos quieren tener éxito. Tú quieres tener éxito en tu carrera. Tú quieres tener éxito en tus relaciones. Tú quieres tener éxito en tu aprendizaje. La Biblia da un consejo claro a quién quiera tener éxito.

La Palabra de Dios dice en Josué 1:8, “Nunca dejes de leer el libro de la Ley; estúdialo de día y de noche, y ponlo en práctica, para que tengas éxito en todo lo que hagas” (TLA).

Dios no es un mentiroso. Esta es su promesa para ti. Si quieres ser exitoso y próspero en la vida, estudia su Palabra continuamente.

Te hará sabio. Y la Biblia dice, con sabiduría vienen las riquezas y el honor.

Pero eso comienza conociendo la Palabra de Dios.

The Key to a Balanced Life: Jesus

“Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well.”

Matthew 6:33 (NCV)

If you want to live a truly balanced life, you can only look at one person in all of history as your model: Jesus. If you put him at the center of your life, your life will be more balanced.

Think of your life like a wheel. The center of the wheel is a hub. All of the spokes of your life (which represent your relationships, your family, your career, your goals, and so on) come from that hub. We all build our lives around some sort of hub. The question is, what will be your hub? Will it be your family? Will it be your career? Will it be money?

Or will it be Jesus?

How do you know what you’re building your life around? Take a look at whatever you think about the most. That’s what is driving you.

The center of your life is critical to developing a balanced life. A solid center leads to a solid life. A weak, flimsy center leads to a weak life. When I hear people tell me their lives are coming unglued, it usually means one thing: They have a faulty center. Something other than God has taken priority in their lives.

Not only does the hub create stability, but it also controls and influences everything else about your life. Whatever you put at the center of your life will also be your source of power. The power of a wheel always emanates from the center outward—never the other way around.

Make Jesus the hub of your life, and he’ll provide the stability, control, and power you need. The Bible says, “Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well” (Matthew 6:33 NCV).

When you choose to put Jesus at the center, all the other areas of your life—from your family to your career to your goals—will find balance in him. He will direct your life, influence it, empower it, and give it stability.

Los Discípulos de Jesús Nunca Dejan de Aprender

“Las personas inteligentes están siempre dispuestas a aprender; tienen los oídos abiertos al conocimiento”.  Proverbios 18:15 (NTV)

Todos los líderes son aprendices. No hay excepciones. Si tú enseñas en un salón de clases o cuidas a los niños en casa o trabajas en servicio al cliente; tú estás liderando a alguien. Y para hacerlo con mayor eficacia, es necesario seguir aprendiendo.

Cuando dejas de aprender, empiezas a morir. Es así de simple.

No importa la edad que tengas y sin importar el tipo de carrera en la que estés, necesitas aprender. Escoge una nueva habilidad. Estudia un tema nuevo. Lee un libro nuevo. Comienza un nuevo estudio bíblico.

La Biblia dice en Proverbios 18:15, “Las personas inteligentes están siempre dispuestas a aprender; tienen los oídos abiertos al conocimiento” (NTV).

Uno de los papeles más importantes que tienes en la vida, es el papel de estudiante. Jesús quiere que seamos discípulos. Es sólo otra palabra para aprendiz. Estás aprendiendo lo que significa seguir a Cristo.

Los discípulos de Jesús siguen aprendiendo. Nunca se detienen.

Cuando tenía 14 años, empecé a leer dos libros a la semana. En un momento de mi vida, estaba leyendo un libro al día. Ahora tengo más de 35,000 libros en mi biblioteca. ¿Por qué? La gente con la que sales y los libros que lees, determinarán tu futuro.

Te harás un favor cuando sigas aprendiendo. La Biblia nos enseña: “Adquirir sabiduría es amarte a ti mismo; los que atesoran el entendimiento prosperarán” Proverbios 19:8 (NTV).

When You Make Idols, You End Up Like Them

“Those who make idols end up like them. So does everyone who trusts them.”

Psalm 115:8 (GW)

Even good things—like our marriages, our families, our hobbies, the people we admire, or even our ministries in the church—can become idols if we place a greater emphasis on them than on our relationship with God.

Anytime you think fulfillment comes from who you’re with or what you do, you’re setting yourself up for a deep disappointment. Created things simply cannot give us meaning in life; only our Creator can do that.

The Bible says, “The poor, deluded fool . . . trusts something that can’t help him at all. Yet he cannot bring himself to ask: ‘Is this idol that I’m holding in my hand a lie?’” (Isaiah 44:20 NLT).

We want to live in the truth of God’s reality, not in the lie created by our own hand. These idols won’t just stop after they’ve disappointed us. Eventually, they will control us.

On the other hand, if you value Jesus above all else, you’ll become like him.

So if putting something else first in our lives warps us, why do we do it?

We want a god we can control. We want to be able to manage him. But why would you want to follow a god you can control and manage? That’s no god at all.

Guess what? You don’t have to settle for that kind of god. You can choose to give yourself over to an all-knowing, all-powerful God who can take you places far beyond where your fantasies and idols ever could. And that’s a reality that won’t leave you feeling disappointed.

Cuando tu Educación Prueba tu Fe, Tienes Tres Opciones

“Todo el que quiera vivir una vida de sumisión a Dios en Cristo Jesús sufrirá persecución”.   2 Timoteo 3:12 (NTV)

La educación es de vital importancia para todos nosotros. Es una de las pocas partes de nuestras vidas que nunca debe terminar. Siempre deberíamos estar aprendiendo. La Biblia lo describe como una herramienta para una vida exitosa (Proverbios 19:8).

Pero como cualquier cosa que es importante, tenemos que protegerla. Debemos asegurarnos de que nuestro aprendizaje nos acerque a Dios y no nos aleje de Él.

Eso comienza con una decisión.

Tienes que decidir de antemano permanecer firme para Dios.

El tiempo para pensar acerca de tu lealtad a Dios no es cuando estás aprendiendo algo nuevo. Es antes de que empieces.

La Biblia nos dice: “En este mundo afrontarán aflicciones” Juan 16:33b (NVI).

Este versículo no dice “de pronto afrontarán aflicciones”. No dice “si llegaran a afrontar aflicciones”. Dice que afrontarán aflicciones. Y eso incluye tu educación. Tu fe será probada por tu educación. No hay duda de eso.

En 2 Timoteo 3:12 leemos: “Todo el que quiera vivir una vida de sumisión a Dios en Cristo Jesús sufrirá persecución” (NTV).

Si tú no estás sufriendo ninguna persecución en tu vida, puede indicar que no estás viviendo una vida totalmente piadosa. Puede significar que estás tratando de ser un camaleón donde algunas personas no saben que eres cristiano.

Cuenta con ser probado en tu educación. Tú puedes reprobar en una gran prueba de matemáticas. Pero no puedes dejar de hacer la prueba más importante: la prueba de tu fe. Esta prueba tiene consecuencias eternas.

Cuando tu educación evalúa tu fe, tienes tres opciones.

Puedes hundirte. Te retiras y simplemente dejas caer tu fe.

Puedes retirarte. Simplemente separas en secciones tu vida, y no dejas que la Palabra de Dios impacte en lo que estás aprendiendo.

Puedes prosperar. Eliges pasar lo que estás aprendiendo a través del filtro de la Palabra de Dios.

Eso es lo que Daniel y sus amigos hicieron en el primer capítulo de Daniel. Antes de pasar por el programa de adoctrinamiento del rey, “Daniel estaba decidido a no contaminarse” Daniel 1:8a (NTV).

Daniel y sus amigos no dejaron que las ideas falsas arruinaran su fe. Tú tampoco deberías permitirlo.

Decidir desde el principio que protegerás tu mente. Es decidir que vas a pasar todo a través del filtro bíblico. Así es como prosperas en tu educación —y tu fe. Y utiliza este filtro sin importar la edad que tengas o dónde estés en la vida— Dios quiere que tú seas un aprendiz toda la vida, lo que significa que enfrentarás desafíos a lo largo de toda la vida en cuanto a la fe.

Cuando estés siendo probado, recuerda que Dios está contigo no contra ti. Él te está guiando hacia una fe más profunda y una relación más cercana con Él.

How to Trust God’s Timing in Your Pain

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’”

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT)

When you’re in pain and you pray and don’t see the answers, should you give up? No. Your job is to keep praying and keep trusting God for the answer, because you know that everything he does and everything he allows in your life, he will use for good. You accept a “No,” a “Slow,” a “Grow,” or a “Go” because you know that God is a good Father, even when you’re in pain.

If a doctor performs surgery on you and cuts you open, that’s going to cause some pain. But if that surgery saves your life, would you say she’s a bad doctor? No, because she just saved your life!

When God doesn’t immediately end your pain, he’s saying to you in that moment, “My grace is sufficient for you, and you can handle a little pain—and even a lot of pain in your life—because I am with you and I am going to use this for your good.”

I’ve had a lot of pain in my life. In fact, almost everything I’ve learned in life, I’ve learned through pain. I’ve learned nothing from pleasure. I’ve learned very little from success. But I’ve learned boatloads through pain. God is more interested in making me a man of God than he is in making me comfortable. And God is more interested in making you a man or woman of God than he is in making you comfortable in the short-term. You will be comfortable for all of eternity in heaven.

In Scripture, we read, “‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT).

While you’re praying at one level, God is thinking about your life at a much higher level and from a much bigger perspective. He wants good for your life even more than you do.

Conviértete en un Estudiante de por Vida

“El que aprende y pone en práctica lo aprendido, se estima a sí mismo y prospera”.   Proverbios 19:8 (DHH)

Muchas personas pasan años de la juventud en su educación. Ojalá que ese compromiso con la educación continúe. Todos debemos ser aprendices de por vida.

La Biblia dice mucho sobre la importancia de tener educación y continuar con el aprendizaje. De hecho, se nos ha dicho que amemos a Dios con nuestra mente (ver Lucas 10:27).

¿Como amas a Dios con tu mente? Al usarla, desarrollarla, y no desperdiciarla. La Biblia lo dice de esta manera: “El que aprende y pone en práctica lo aprendido, se estima a sí mismo y prospera” Proverbios 19:8 (DHH).

¿Quieres tener éxito en la vida? La Biblia dice que aprendas y apliques lo que has aprendido.

En casi todos los países del mundo, no es casualidad que un cristiano sea responsable de comenzar la primera escuela y el primer hospital. Creemos que Dios no solo se preocupa por nuestra alma. También le importa nuestra mente y nuestro cuerpo.

Tal vez no hayas tenido la oportunidad de tener una buena educación, pero hay muchas maneras en las que puedes aprender. Tener una educación puede ser una buena inversión de tu tiempo y de tu dinero –una inversión en ti mismo.

Pero seamos claros respecto a esto. Tu educación no termina con la escuela, y la escuela no es el único lugar donde aprendemos a ser educados. Para ser exitoso, necesitas aprender por el resto de tu vida.

Y también tienes que ser cuidadoso. Necesitas cuidar tu mente. Necesitas aprender las cosas correctas.

Proverbios 4:13 dice, “Aférrate a la instrucción y no la descuides; ponla en práctica, pues es vida para ti” (DHH).

Por los próximos días en estos devocionales, compartiré algunos consejos específicos bíblicos sobre lo que se necesita para cuidar lo que pones en tu mente –ya sea que estés en la secundaria, la universidad o un adulto que continua aprendiendo.

Thanking God Ahead of Time

“I will sacrifice to you with songs of thanksgiving. I will keep my vow. Victory belongs to the LORD!”

Jonah 2:9 (GW)

When you feel hopeless, it seems counterproductive to express gratitude. Why would you feel grateful when you’ve hit rock bottom?

Just ask Jonah. At the end of his prayer from the belly of the big fish, before God rescued him, he shows us how to thank God in advance for answering our prayers: “I will sacrifice to you with songs of thanksgiving. I will keep my vow. Victory belongs to the Lord!” (Jonah 2:9 GW).

What’s the difference between gratitude before and gratitude after? If I wait to thank God until after he answers my prayer, that’s gratitude. But if I thank God in advance, before he answers my prayer, that’s faith. We always want to thank God when he answers our prayers, but we show faith in God if we also do it beforehand.

How do you thank God in advance? Jonah shows us three ways:

Jonah thanked God by praising him. In Hebrews 13:15, we’re told, “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name” (NIV).

Jonah thanked God by returning to his mission. Jonah knew he messed up. We’ve all been there, yet that doesn’t stop God’s mission for you. Jonah’s life mission remained the same. Your life mission remains the same too, even when you mess up.

Jonah thanked God by trusting him for success. Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take” (NLT).

In Jonah 1, we see Jonah running from God. In Jonah 2, we see Jonah running to God and his grace. In the next chapter, we’ll see Jonah running with God.

God will never abandon you, even if you disobey his will. That’s why you can thank him even before your prayers are answered.
