Tu Vida es Controlada por tus Pensamientos

“Ante todo, cuida tus pensamientos porque ellos controlan tu vida”.

Proverbios 4:23 (PDT)

Dios está mucho más interesado en cambiar tu mente que en cambiar tus circunstancias.

Tú quieres que Dios se lleve todos los problemas, el dolor, la pena, el sufrimiento, la enfermedad y la tristeza. Pero Dios quiere trabajar primero en ti, porque la transformación no sucederá en tu vida hasta que renueves tu mente, hasta que tus pensamientos comiencen a cambiar.

¿Por qué es tan importante que aprendas a administrar tu mente? Permíteme darte tres razones:

Administra tu mente, porque tus pensamientos controlan tu vida.

Proverbios 4:23 dice, “Ante todo, cuida tus pensamientos porque ellos controlan tu vida” (PDT). Tus pensamientos tienen una tremenda habilidad para controlar tu vida para bien o para mal. Por ejemplo, tal vez aceptes los pensamientos que alguien te dijo cuando estabas creciendo, “No vales nada. No importas”. Si aceptaste ese pensamiento, aunque esté equivocado, eso controlará tu vida.

Administra tu mente, porque la mente es el campo de batalla para el pecado.

Toda tentación sucede en la mente. Pablo dijo en Romanos 7:22-23 “En lo más profundo de mi corazón amo la ley de Dios. Pero también me sucede otra cosa: hay algo dentro de mí, que lucha contra lo que creo que es bueno. Trato de obedecer la ley de Dios, pero me siento como en una cárcel, donde lo único que puedo hacer es pecar. Sinceramente, deseo obedecer la ley de Dios, pero no puedo dejar de pecar porque mi cuerpo es débil para obedecerla” (TLA).

Una de las razones porque te fatigas mentalmente es porque hay una batalla en tu cerebro 24 horas al día. Te debilita porque es intensa, y es intensa porque tu mente es tu más grande posesión. ¡Satanás quiere tu mayor recurso!

Administra tu mente, porque es la clave para la paz y la felicidad.

Una mente no administrada lleva a la tensión. Una mente administrada lleva a la tranquilidad. Una mente no administrada lleva al conflicto. Una mente administrada lleva a la confianza. Una mente no administrada lleva al estrés. Cuando no tratas de controlar tu mente y la forma en la que diriges tus pensamientos, tendrás una increíble cantidad de estrés en tu vida. Pero una mente administrada te lleva a la fortaleza, la seguridad y la serenidad.

“Por lo tanto, permitir que la naturaleza pecaminosa les controle la mente lleva a la muerte. Pero permitir que el Espíritu les controle la mente lleva a la vida y a la paz” Romanos 8:6 (NTV).

Look Beyond the Words to the Feelings

“Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.”

1 Peter 3:8 (NLT)

What people say in a conversation is not nearly as important as what they are feeling. Many times, someone is saying one thing and feeling another.

If you’re going to be a great listener, then you need to look past people’s words, even when what they’re saying is offensive. Hurt people hurt people, and words are an effective weapon. When people lash out or get defensive, it’s often because they’re afraid, insecure, or frustrated.

And you know what? Once you recognize people may be feeling those things, it’s much easier to focus on listening to what they’re really trying to say. It’s much harder to be sympathetic when you think people are saying something unkind because they’re just spiteful or mean.

Words don’t always give you the whole picture. You sometimes have to look for the open nerve. You have to look at what someone has experienced. You have to ask why this issue may be a big deal to the person. You listen for the pain, understanding that sometimes the pain doesn’t have anything to do with you. Some pain is so deep it clouds every interaction someone has. The words may just be a mask for pain.

Learning to listen in love means looking past the things people are saying to what they might be feeling.

“Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude” (1 Peter 3:8 NLT).

When you’re humble, you’re open to new ideas. When you’re loving and sympathetic, you don’t bite back. If people get angry with you, you know to look past their anger and ask, “What are they afraid of? What are they anxious or fearful about? What has hurt them?”

You won’t always know people well enough to figure out exactly what’s pressing on their nerves. You may not be able to figure out what’s going on with their emotions. When that happens, you just have to give them the benefit of the doubt. You have to choose humility and kindness over getting the last word. You have to give people grace instead of getting even or making your point.

Even when faced with harsh words, a great listener always chooses love.

Como Tener un Cambio Duradero en tu Vida

“No imiten las conductas ni las costumbres de este mundo, más bien dejen que Dios los transforme en personas nuevas al cambiarles la manera de pensar. Entonces aprenderán a conocer la voluntad de Dios para ustedes, la cual es buena, agradable y perfecta”. Romanos 12:2 (NTV)

Si quieres tener un cambio duradero en tu vida, necesitas reenfocar tu mente.

Específicamente, debes cambiar los patrones de pensamiento; de aquellos en los que no quieres enfocarte, hacia los que deseas enfocarte. Porque en lo que sea que te centres es hacia donde te mueves.

El versículo de hoy nos da el modelo para cambiar nuestros patrones de pensamiento:

“No imiten”. ¿Con qué frecuencia permitimos que otras personas moldeen nuestras vidas? Dios no quiere que seas como alguien más; Él quiere que seas la persona que Él hizo. Así que no imites, no te conformes, no intentes ser como alguien más.
“Las conductas ni las costumbres de este mundo”. Conducta significa el modelo de todo lo que has aprendido en la vida. Si deseas cambiar, debes cambiar tu conducta o costumbres que has aprendido en tu vida. Necesitas reemplazar la vieja conducta insalubre por una nueva, la que es modelada según la vida de Cristo.
“Dejen que Dios los transforme en personas nuevas al cambiarles la manera de pensar“. Transformar es la misma palabra que usamos para metamorfosis, el proceso que atraviesa una oruga para convertirse en mariposa. De la misma manera, Dios quiere transformarte en una persona completamente nueva al renovar tu mente.

¿Cómo sucede esto? La Biblia nos dice en Efesios 4:22-24 “Con respecto a la vida que antes llevaban, se les enseñó que debían quitarse el ropaje de la vieja naturaleza, la cual está corrompida por los deseos engañosos; ser renovados en la actitud de su mente; y ponerse el ropaje de la nueva naturaleza, creada a imagen de Dios, en verdadera justicia y santidad” (NVI).

Esto significa que vas a tener que quitarte un poco y ponerte otro poco —y el quitarte tiene que pasar antes del ponerte. Es como probarse ropa en una tienda. Antes de que puedas probar las cosas nuevas, tienes que quitarte las cosas viejas.

Tendrás que dejar atrás las viejas actitudes, los viejos patrones de pensamiento, las viejas imágenes con las que has estado viviendo para poder ponerte las nuevas prendas que Dios tiene para ti.

Listen Before Trying to Solve Anything

“The one who gives an answer before he listens—this is foolishness and disgrace for him.”

Proverbs 18:13 (CSB)

One of the problems with humans is that we like to fix things. When we see a problem, we want to quickly jump to how we can solve it so we can move on. But God wants you to be a feeler before you’re a fixer. He wants you to feel someone’s pain before you try to solve the problem.

“The one who gives an answer before he listens—this is foolishness and disgrace for him” (Proverbs 18:13 CSB).

You may be barely into a conversation before you think, “I know how to fix this.” But that’s not loving. People don’t care what you know until they know that you care. They want to feel heard. They want to feel loved. They want to feel understood.

There is healing in sharing. Your ear is a healing tool God can use if you’ll learn to listen without trying to fix anything.

When Jesus hears that his friend Lazarus is sick, he takes three days to travel what should have taken less than a day. By the time Jesus arrives, Lazarus is dead. His sisters are grieving and tell Jesus that, if he had come sooner, Lazarus would not have died.

Jesus’ delay might seem callous, but he has a plan: He doesn’t want to heal Lazarus. He wants to raise him from the dead to show he, Jesus, is the Son of God. He already knew the solution before Lazarus even got sick.

“Jesus saw her weeping, and he saw how the people with her were weeping also; his heart was touched, and he was deeply moved. ‘Where have you buried him?’ he asked them. ‘Come and see, Lord,’ they answered. Jesus wept” (John 11:33-35 GNT).

Jesus is not unconcerned about their pain. When he sees everybody around him grieving, he mirrors it. He enters into it. Jesus knows the solution, but it doesn’t keep him from sharing their grief. He shares their feelings, not his solution.

You may know the solution, but you need to hold off. If you’re going to be a great listener, you’ve got to listen to someone’s feelings and enter into that person’s pain.

Dios Entiende que no Puedes Cambiar de la Noche a la Mañana

“Pónganse la nueva naturaleza, creada para ser a la semejanza de Dios, quien es verdaderamente justo y santo”. Efesios 4:24 (NTV)

Cuando Dios te ayuda a crecer espiritualmente, Él no hace sonar sus dedos para que suceda instantáneamente. Lo hace incrementalmente. Cuando Dios quiere un champiñón, le toma seis horas, pero cuando quiere un roble, le toma sesenta años.

¿Quieres ser un champiñón o un roble?

El Espíritu Santo hará cambios en tu vida mucho más allá de lo que crees posible, pero no va a suceder de la noche a la mañana. Cuando la iglesia Saddleback hizo la “Década del Destino”, mi oración era que, a través del trabajo del Espíritu Santo, la Palabra de Dios y con la ayuda de los grupos pequeños, nuestra iglesia fuera más madura, más como Cristo, y fuera más allá del propósito por los siguientes diez años, a partir de ese momento. Mi oración es la misma para ti: que, en la próxima década, crezcas en madurez espiritual, semejanza a Cristo y propósito.

Quiero que seas más fuerte emocional, física, espiritual, psicológica y financieramente, pero tienes que tener la intención sobre ello. La Biblia dice, “Pónganse la nueva naturaleza, creada para ser a la semejanza de Dios, quien es verdaderamente justo y santo”  Efesios 4:24 (NTV).

Así es como nos hacemos más como Jesús. Tiramos las viejas cosas y las viejas formas que evitan que conozcamos a Cristo y ser como Él, y nos ponemos nuestros nuevos seres con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo. Permitimos a Dios hacer su trabajo en nosotros —sin importar cuanto tarde.

“Gracias a la acción de su Espíritu en nosotros, cada vez nos parecemos más a él” 2 Corintios 3:18 (TLA).

You Can’t Talk People Out of Their Pain

“Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words.”

Job 2:13 (NLT)

If you’re always in a hurry, then you’re never going to be a great listener.

To have great conversations, you start by looking with love at the other person, but then you must invest as much time as needed. Why? Because you can’t listen well in a hurry. Great listening takes time.

Job was a wealthy man who lost virtually everything, including his money, health, and even his children. “When three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him . . . Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words” (Job 2:11, 13 NLT).

This is called the ministry of presence. When you’re ministering to someone in pain, you must remember this: The deeper the pain, the fewer words you use. If somebody’s having a bad hair day, then you can talk about it for 30 minutes. But if that person has a major crisis, talking about it for a long time is probably not going to help.

A lot of people don’t know how to help someone who is in crisis. They don’t know what to say.

Those same people will often stay away from a friend because they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing.

The truth is that you don’t need to say anything. Just show up and shut up. You can’t talk people out of their pain. Some pain is beyond words. When it’s the right time, your hurting friend will say something. When it’s the right time, then you’ll be able to say something too.

This kind of investment takes time. Notice how many days Job’s friends sat on the ground with him: seven. Do you have anybody in your life who’d sit on the ground with you for seven days without saying anything? That takes a very mature person and a true friend.

If you want to be that kind of friend, then you have to be willing to sacrifice so that you can give people your love, attention, and presence—as much as they need.

Eres Solo el Administrador de tu Dinero

“El reino de los cielos será también como un hombre que, al emprender un viaje, llamó a sus siervos y les encargó sus bienes. A uno le dio cinco mil monedas de oro, a otro dos mil y a otro solo mil, a cada uno según su capacidad. Luego se fue de viaje”.

Mateo 25:14-15 (NVI)

Jesús dice en Mate 25:14-15, “El reino de los cielos será también como un hombre que, al emprender un viaje, llamó a sus siervos y les encargó sus bienes. A uno le dio cinco mil monedas de oro, a otro dos mil y a otro solo mil, a cada uno según su capacidad. Luego se fue de viaje” (NVI).

En esos días no había ningún banco, así que este hombre rico se fue a su largo viaje, le confió su propiedad a sus sirvientes. Cuando regresó, les pidió cuenta a sus siervos; él quería saber que habían hecho con su dinero.

A esto se le llama mayordomía —está relacionado con la palabra para “administrador”. La primera ley de la libertad es la ley de posesión: todo lo que tienes pertenece a Dios. ¡Solo eres un administrador!

Somos llamados para administrar nuestro tiempo. Somos llamados para administrar nuestra influencia. Somos llamados para administrar nuestra salud, nuestras relaciones y nuestras oportunidades. Dios te llama a ser mayordomo o administrador de todo lo que tienes.

Puedes decir, “¡pero espera un minuto! yo trabajé por mi dinero, y ahora ¿me quieres decir que no es mío?” ¿De dónde crees que obtuviste tu cuerpo para trabajar por tu dinero? ¿De dónde crees que obtuviste tu mente para trabajar por ello? ¿De dónde crees que obtuviste tu energía para trabajar por ello? ¿De dónde crees que tienes la inteligencia para trabajar en ello? Todo lo que tienes es un don de Dios. En realidad, no posees nada en la vida; todo es un préstamo.

Solo puedes usar el dinero de Dios mientras estés aquí en la tierra. Él te lo prestó por unas pocas décadas. Él se lo prestó a alguien más antes de ti, y él lo va a prestar a alguien más cuando mueras. No lo posees; El Señor es dueño de todo. Todo está bajo administración.

¿Sabes cuáles son las señales de que has olvidado la ley de la posesión? Cuando crees que tu dinero es tuyo, te preocupas por ello. Sientes presión y estrés que no se supone que tengas.

La administración del dinero es una disciplina espiritual. Dios está observando como manejas su dinero para ver cuales riquezas espirituales te puede confiar en el cielo. Esto puede hacerte sentir presión, pero en realidad es libertad en la ley de posesión.

Cuando recuerdas que Dios es el dueño y tú eres el administrador, te preocuparás mucho menos y te enfocarás más en administrar bien el dinero de Dios.

¿Qué rol tiene la oración en tus decisiones financieras? ¿Por qué la oración es importante en la administración del dinero?

Start Your Conversations with Love

“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.”

1 Corinthians 13:1 (NLT)

Great communication starts with love.

Whoever you’re going to have a conversation with—a child, a spouse, a friend, an ex, or a colleague—you must look at that person with eyes of love.

“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1 NLT).

Words without love are just noise. If you don’t speak in love, it doesn’t matter what the conversation is about or how eloquent you are. You will have wasted your breath.

How do you communicate love in a conversation? For one thing, you communicate love with your eyes, the way you look at somebody. Have you ever looked at somebody and known that person wasn’t loving you at that moment? Or have you ever looked at somebody and, without the other person saying a word, known that person loved you?

Your eyes are powerful tools for showing love. Start your conversations with your eyes. Use your eyes to give people your attention, because attention is love. When you pay attention to people, you’re saying you love them. If you don’t give them your attention, you’ll never have a productive conversation or build stronger relationships.

Jesus modeled this. When a young man came to him one day with a question, here’s how he responded: “Jesus felt genuine love for this man as he looked at him” (Mark 10:21 TLB).

Jesus looked, and he loved.

Recompensa de Dios por la Sabia Administración del Dinero

“Su señor le respondió: “¡Hiciste bien, siervo bueno y fiel! En lo poco has sido fiel; te pondré a cargo de mucho más. ¡Ven a compartir la felicidad de tu señor!”. Mateo 25:21 (NVI)

El dinero es la prueba de fuego de tu fidelidad. Dios lo usa más que cualquier otra cosa en tu vida para poner a prueba tu fe. ¿Por qué? Porque es la cosa con la que tenemos mayor dificultad.

Mira las recompensas que Dios da por el manejo sabio del dinero: “¡Hiciste bien, siervo bueno y fiel! En lo poco has sido fiel; te pondré a cargo de mucho más. ¡Ven a compartir la felicidad de tu señor!”  Mateo 25:21 (NVI).

La ley de la compensación es esta: Dios te recompensará por una buena administración del dinero. Hay tres pasos para esta recompensa basada en Mateo 25:21, afirmación, promoción y celebración.

Dios te afirma diciéndote: “¡Buen trabajo! Te estaba probando para ver si podía confiar con lo que te di, y pasaste la prueba. “¡Hiciste bien, siervo bueno y fiel!”.

El segundo paso es la promoción. Al mostrar fidelidad con algunas cosas, Dios te dará una mayor responsabilidad.

Y a medida que demuestras tu responsabilidad, Dios celebrará contigo. ¡Compartirás en la felicidad de Dios!

Jesús dijo: “Nadie puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreciará a uno y amará al otro, o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas”. Mateo 6:24 (NVI).

Nota que Él no dice que no debes servir a Dios y al dinero. Él dice que no puedes. Es imposible. Nadie puede servir a dos maestros. Entonces vas a tener que decidir cuál será el número uno en tu vida: Dios o ganar dinero.

El dinero es un excelente servidor, pero es un maestro terrible. Cuando te domina, siempre estás bajo estrés. Siempre estás preocupado. Siempre estás tenso al respecto. Cuando dominas tu dinero, cuando es tu sirviente, te sirve. Cuando el dinero funciona para ti en lugar de que trabajes por tu dinero, entonces tienes paz.

Si Dios te hiciera una auditoria a tus finanzas, ¿Qué calificación te daría y por qué?
¿Por qué querrías que Dios te diera una mayor responsabilidad?
¿Cómo puedes administrar tu dinero más sabiamente para que funcione para ti en lugar de que te controle?

For Confidence, Plug in to God’s Power

“There is nothing in us that allows us to claim that we are capable of doing this work. The capacity we have comes from God; it is he who made us capable of serving the new covenant.”

2 Corinthians 3:5-6 (GNT)

Success means just being who God made you to be. Knowing this should give you enormous confidence. But you might admit that you’re not very confident most of the time. Maybe you’re just flat out insecure. You may act like you’re confident, but some things about you even you don’t like.

Why are you lacking in confidence? There are two reasons.

First, you’re trying to be somebody that God didn’t shape you to be. And that’s scary, because you can’t be anybody else.

“There is nothing in us that allows us to claim that we are capable of doing this work. The capacity we have comes from God; it is he who made us capable of serving the new covenant” (2 Corinthians 3:5-6 GNT).

You’re only going to gain confidence when you discover your capacity—how God shaped you. That includes your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences.

The other reason you often lack confidence is that you depend on your own power instead of God’s power. That’s a guarantee for failure! Even though God has put a certain capacity in you, he hasn’t made you able to do it all on your own. God never meant for you to go through life on your own power. He meant for you to depend on him.

A blender is designed to blend things, but it’s worthless unless it’s plugged in to power. If the blender just sits there and is never plugged in, it’s useless. It can’t fulfill its purpose.

God has given you capabilities, but they’re worthless unless you’re plugged in to his power through the Holy Spirit. With Christ, you have everything you need to live with confidence.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens andempowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace]” (AMP).
