El Miedo Crece Cuando nos Rehusamos a Hacer lo que Dios Quiere que Hagamos

“Y ahora, oh Señor, escucha sus amenazas y danos a nosotros, tus siervos, mucho valor al predicar tu palabra”. Hechos 4:29 (NTV)

Todos tenemos temores. Sin embargo, con demasiada frecuencia, dejamos que gobiernen nuestras vidas y nos impiden tomar una postura firme ante lo que sabemos que Dios quiere que hagamos.

Al igual que Daniel frente al foso de los leones, enfrentamos personas y situaciones que amenazan con destruirnos, así como también nuestro testimonio en Cristo. Pero la elección es nuestra.

¿Cederemos frente a nuestros temores o tomaremos una postura firme ante Dios a pesar de esos temores?

Si quieres vencer el miedo que te está abatiendo, necesitas entender claramente los beneficios de tomar una postura a favor de Dios.

Lo más importante que necesitas saber es que hacer lo que Dios quiere que hagas es una clara victoria en tu vida por sobre el temor.

Porque el miedo crece cada vez que cedes ante el temor, este se vuelve más intenso.

El miedo crece cada vez que te niegas a hacer lo que Dios quiere hagas. Eventualmente, te sentirás arrinconado.

Y cuando crece el miedo, tu vida se encoge.

Entonces ¿qué haces?

Seguir el ejemplo de los primeros cristianos. Ciertamente no somos la primera generación de creyentes que enfrenta el miedo. Los primeros cristianos sufrieron toda clase de persecuciones. El libro de Hechos nos muestra un poco de cómo fue su postura ante el temor. Como Pedro y Juan proclamaron a Jesús con valentía en Hechos 4, enfrentándose a la oposición.

Así que oraron, “Y ahora, oh Señor, escucha sus amenazas y danos a nosotros, tus siervos, mucho valor al predicar tu palabra” Hechos 4:29 (NTV).      

La respuesta a tu temor no es rendirte ante él. Es seguir avanzando con valentía a pesar de él. Te enfrentas al miedo. El temor no responde a la lógica, así que la única oportunidad que tienes para deshacerte de él es confiar en Dios y enfrentar el temor.   

Nunca olvides esto. Dios nunca partirá las aguas del Rio Jordán frente a ti hasta que tú des el primer paso (lee como Dios hizo esto por Elías y Eliseo en 2 Reyes 2:8). Tú tomas el paso de fe y Dios te muestra el camino. Eso no sucederá si tú te quedas atrapado en tu temor.

Toma un paso de fe el día de hoy y observa cómo se desmorona el temor en el proceso mientras Dios guía tus pasos.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cómo has visto crecer el temor en tu vida porque te has rendido ante él?
¿Cómo has visto al temor disminuir en tu vida porque has tomado una postura firme para con Dios?
¿Qué temores son los que encuentras más difíciles de superar en tu vida cotidiana? ¿Por qué? ¿Cómo puedes entregárselos a Dios?

God Knows the End of the Story

“What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.”

James 5:11 (The Message)

The big question everyone is asking right now is, “When will things get back to normal?”

But, I want to ask you, what will you do if life doesn’t get back to normal?

The answer is simple. You don’t put your hope in the government to make things right again. You don’t trust in the media or celebrities. Instead, put your hope in God.

Why hope in God?

Because he knows the end of the story. We don’t have to know it because he does. He holds the future.

The story of Job demonstrates this. Imagine being Job when everything was taken from him. He didn’t know the future. He had no idea God would restore things in the end. But he trusted God.

James says, “What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail” (James 5:11 The Message).

God worked through the details of Job’s life because he cared about him. God will do the same for you. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve messed up in the first part of your story; trust God to handle the details and watch how he brings it all together in the second half of your story. In fact, God already knows how your story will end.

The thing is, it’s really his story and he created you to be a unique and significant part of it. That’s why you can have faith that he is working to take care of you and to give you a good future.

God repeatedly says in Scripture that he will one day reward us for our faith. The book of James says: “Happy are those who remain faithful under trials, because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12 GNT).

No matter what you’re going through right now, God promises to work everything out for good. And that’s a reason for hope—and a reason to faithfully trust in him.

Pasar de lo que Sabemos de Dios a lo que Confiamos Acerca de Dios

“Algunos ya han dejado de confiar en Dios”. 1 Timoteo 6:21a (TLA)

Hay 35 centímetros entre tu cabeza y tu corazón. Desafortunadamente algunas personas se pierden el cielo por esos 35 centímetros. Conocen a Dios con su mente, pero no con sus corazones. Intelectualmente creen en el evangelio, pero nunca permiten que cambie sus corazones.

Yo fui a la escuela hace mucho tiempo, unos 24 años atrás para obtener mi maestría y doctorado. Honestamente, he olvidado mucho de lo que aprendí durante ese tiempo.

Pero nunca he olvidado la verdad más importante que he aprendido. Fuimos creados por Dios. Fuimos creados para Dios. Hasta que comprendamos eso, la vida nunca tendrá sentido.        

No fuiste creado para tu propio beneficio.

La Biblia dice, “Algunos ya han dejado de confiar en Dios” 1 Timoteo 6:21a (TLA).

Puedes conocer varias teorías. Puedes conocer la teoría del caos. Puedes saber física cuántica. Pero si no conoces a Dios, te has perdido el propósito de tu vida.

Al final de tu vida, Dios te hará una prueba final. Aquí están las buenas noticias. Será un examen a libro abierto. Todas las respuestas están en la Biblia.

En ese examen Dios no te preguntará si obtuviste todas tus calificaciones “excelentes”. No le importará que tan bien te fue en tu carrera. No te pedirá ver un reporte de tus cuentas bancarias.

En vez de eso, Él te preguntará esto: ¿Llegaste a conocerme? ¿Desarrollaste una relación conmigo? ¿Desarrollaste una relación con mi Hijo a quien envíe a la tierra a morir en una cruz por ti?

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Por qué es tan difícil pasar de lo que sabemos de Dios a confiar en Él?
¿Por qué piensas que mucha gente pospone comenzar una relación con Dios?
Si Dios te preguntara hoy “¿Conoces a mi Hijo?” ¿Qué responderías?

 

¿Quieres conocer a Jesús hoy?

Haz esta oración,

“Dios mío, tengo miedo, pero quiero conocerte. No lo entiendo todo, pero te agradezco que me ames. Te agradezco que estuvieras conmigo, incluso cuando no lo reconocí. Te agradezco que estés para mí, que no enviaste a Jesús para condenarme sino para salvarme.

Admito que nunca me di cuenta de que necesitaba un Salvador, pero hoy quiero recibir el regalo de tu Hijo. Te pido que me salves de mi pasado, remordimientos, errores, pecados, hábitos, heridas y complejos. Necesito que me quites el estrés y llenes mi vida de tu amor. Necesito estar en paz contigo, y necesito que pongas tu paz en mi corazón.

Te pido que me salves para tu propósito. Quiero saber para qué me pusiste en esta tierra. Y quiero cumplir lo que tú quieres que yo haga. Quiero aprender a amarte, a confiar en ti y a tener una relación contigo. Te lo pido en el nombre de Jesús, Amén.

God Uses Problems to Help Us Grow

“These little troubles are getting us ready for an eternal glory that will make all of our troubles seem like nothing.”

2 Corinthians 4:17 (CEV)

God uses everything—even the pandemic we’re in right now—to help our character grow. He uses problems to help us mature. James writes it like this: “My brothers and sisters, be very happy when you are tested in different ways. You know that such testing of your faith produces endurance. Endure until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and complete, and you won’t need anything” (James 1:2-4 GW).

You may feel tired and depleted right now because of how COVID-19 is affecting your life and the lives of those you love. This is the time to look to God, to place your hope in him, and to trust he is still in control.

He is a God of hope, and his hope will not disappoint. Given time, you’ll see that God can use even this pandemic to make you stronger and to develop your spiritual muscle.

In Romans 8:28, the Bible teaches, “We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (NLT).

God’s purpose for you on this earth is to prepare you for eternity. This life is preparation for the next. We’re in the warm-up act right now! You’re likely only here for less than a hundred years, but you’ll be in eternity for trillions upon trillions of years—and even then you’re just getting started!

Today’s problems get you ready for an eternity you can’t imagine right now.

That’s what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:17: “These little troubles are getting us ready for an eternal glory that will make all of our troubles seem like nothing” (CEV).

Today’s problems may seem to be a heavy burden. But they’ll seem like nothing in heaven.

Hang on to that hope when you feel weary, overwhelmed, or just plain ready to give up. God is preparing you for eternity with him in heaven!

Hay una Diferencia entre Saber y Aprender

“Oh Belsasar, usted es el sucesor del rey y sabía todo esto, pero aun así no se ha humillado”. Daniel 5:22 (NTV)

Dios no te enseñará algo nuevo hasta que hayas puesto en práctica lo que ya te enseñó.

Dios no está en el negocio de simplemente satisfacer tu curiosidad. Él te dice algo y espera que actúes al respecto. Una vez que lo pongas en práctica, puedes avanzar al siguiente paso.

Ya ves, Dios quiere que apliques la verdad que has aprendido.

Y no has aprendido algo hasta que lo hayas hecho.

No es suficiente decirle a la gente que crees en la Biblia. Debes hacer lo que la Biblia enseña.

Si no haces lo que la Biblia enseña, realmente no crees en ella.

Eso es lo que vemos en la historia de Belsasar en el libro de Daniel. Perdió todo porque no puso en práctica lo que ya había aprendido.

Se negó con orgullo a aprender las lecciones que Dios le había enseñado a su abuelo. Su imperio cayó por eso.

La Biblia registra a Daniel diciéndole: “Oh Belsasar, usted es el sucesor del rey y sabía todo esto, pero aun así no se ha humillado” Daniel 5:22 (NTV).

Belsasar vio a Nabucodonosor literalmente perder la cabeza por siete años debido al orgullo. Vio todos los errores que su abuelo cometió. Vio a su abuelo regresar y corregir esas cosas. Él vio lo bueno y lo malo en la vida de Nabucodonosor, y eligió ignorar a Dios. Belsasar eligió ignorar las lecciones.

Entonces Dios le quitó su reino.

Belsasar lo sabía, pero no aprendió. Necesitamos entender la diferencia entre saber y aprender. Puedes saber muchas cosas, pero si no actúas con ellas, no has aprendido nada. Dios quiere que seamos hacedores de la Palabra, y eso significa que nos apoyará a medida que avanzamos en la fe, aplicando las cosas que nos enseñó a hacer.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Dios te ha enseñado algo nuevo inmediatamente después de haber aplicado lo último que te enseñó?
¿Hay algo que Dios te haya enseñado que aún no has puesto en práctica? Si es así, ¿estás dispuesto a dar ese paso para que puedas seguir creciendo?
¿Cómo se ha fortalecido tu fe al ver a otros cristianos aplicar las verdades que Dios les ha enseñado?

Focus on What Will Last Forever

“Things that are seen don’t last forever, but things that are not seen are eternal. That’s why we keep our minds on the things that cannot be seen.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 (CEV)

Human beings can handle an enormous amount of frustration, delay, and pain as long as they have hope.

But when hope is gone, people give up.

Jesus offers the only hope that is eternal. And it is a hope that will never disappoint. But you need the right perspective to understand the hope found in Jesus.

That means you don’t just look at what’s going on right now. Instead of focusing on the temporary, focus on the eternal. For instance, pay more attention to God’s Word than the news on your smartphone.

Difficulties don’t last. But hope in God lasts forever. The Bible says, “These three things continue forever: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13 NCV).

There is a plaque engraved with Hebrew letters that hangs on the wall in my office. People ask me all the time what the Hebrew means. It simply says, “This too shall pass.”

I like to look at it when I’m going through a difficult time. It reminds me that no matter what my circumstances are, they are temporary. No problem comes to stay in your life. It will pass. Even if it is a lifelong chronic problem, you won’t take it into eternity.

Paul reminds us of this in 2 Corinthians 4:18: “Things that are seen don’t last forever, but things that are not seen are eternal. That’s why we keep our minds on the things that cannot be seen.” (CEV).

Your problems won’t last forever. The coronavirus pandemic won’t last forever. Uncertainty with the economy won’t last forever.

But there are things in God’s universe that you can’t see that will last forever. Faith, hope, and love will last forever. And if you trust in Jesus, you will be with God forever in eternity.

Put your hope in Jesus. “Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective” (Colossians 3:2 The Message).

Your hope in Christ will become a hope fulfilled.

Have you put your hope in Jesus?

The Bible says we can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. And we don’t have to earn God’s love or work our way into heaven. The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer? If you’re ready to step across that line and make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe that you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say that salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management. You have the right to call the shots in my life.

“Jesus, I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.”

Alimenta tu Mente con la Palabra de Dios

“Me negaré a mirar cualquier cosa vil o vulgar. Detesto a los que actúan de manera deshonesta; no tendré nada que ver con ellos”. Salmos 101:3 (NTV)

En estos días escucharás mucha preocupación sobre la contaminación del agua y la contaminación del aire. Y esas preocupaciones son importantes.

Pero puede haber una contaminación más importante en nuestras vidas: la contaminación mental.

La Biblia nos dice que con lo que alimentamos nuestras mentes es tan importante como con lo que alimentamos nuestros cuerpos.

El Salmos 101:3 dice: “Me negaré a mirar cualquier cosa vil o vulgar. Detesto a los que actúan de manera deshonesta; no tendré nada que ver con ellos” (NTV).

Cuando alimentes tu mente, debes elegir entre cuatro tipos de contenido.

Veneno – estos son los conceptos que te trastornan, degradarán o desmoralizarán. Por ejemplo, la pornografía hará eso.


Comida chatarra – la mayoría de las cosas en la televisión son el equivalente mental de la comida chatarra. Encontrarás poco o ningún valor nutricional en ella. Puedes comer comida chatarra, pero no vas a ser muy sabio.


Comida mental – estas son las “cosas buenas”. Te educa en áreas como matemáticas, historia, inglés y geografía. Necesitas llenar tu mente con comida mental. Te convertirás en una persona completa.


Súper Comida – esta es la Biblia. La Palabra de Dios te enseñará lo que no encontrarás en ningún otro lado. Respondes preguntas fundamentales como, “¿Quién soy? ¿De dónde vengo? ¿A dónde voy? ¿Importa mi vida? ¿Hay un propósito en mi vida? ¿Hay algún significado? ¿Soy significativo?” Solo obtendrás respuestas a esas preguntas en la Biblia. Necesitamos alimentarnos en la Palabra de Dios diariamente.

Desafortunadamente, muchos de nosotros llenamos nuestro cerebro con comida chatarra, y dejamos poco tiempo para leer la Biblia. Si miras de seis a ocho horas de televisión al día, no tendrás tiempo para la Palabra de Dios. Peor aún, ni siquiera tendrás hambre de la Palabra de Dios.

Recortemos la comida chatarra y aprendamos a darnos un banquete con la Biblia.

Así es como nos volvemos sabios.

De los cuatro tipos de “comida” descritos en este devocional, ¿cuál consumes más? ¿Y cuál menos?
¿Cuál es una idea práctica para pasar más tiempo consumiendo “comida mental” y “súper comida”?

Stop Passing Judgment

“Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

James 2:12-13 (NIV)

As followers of Jesus, we live in a constant tension.

On one hand, we want to honor God and do what he wants. On the other hand, everything in our world is directly opposed to God.

Life in the Kingdom of God is at odds with the ways of the world. You are going to see many things that disagree with your values and—more importantly—with God’s values.

How do you respond?

Unfortunately, too many Christians respond by passing judgment on others.

James tells us that if we judge others without showing mercy, then God will not show mercy to us. God desires mercy over judgment.

You can avoid being judgmental by telling the truth with gentleness. You can tell someone that disobeying God will lead to negative consequences in a way that doesn’t pass judgment on them.

You become judgmental when you take the truth and hold it over people’s heads, in order to make yourself feel superior. We are called to tell the truth to help people, not to harm them or put them down.

You can disagree with someone without being disagreeable. Even if you are right about something, being rude about it puts you in the wrong.

Being judgmental—expecting an unbeliever to act like a believer—doesn’t make sense. The Bible says people can’t act the way God wants them to act until they invite Jesus into their lives and accept his power to change their ways.

You will be able to stop passing judgment on others when you remember that everyone is accountable to God. That means they aren’t accountable to you, but remember, you are accountable to stop passing judgment on others.

Jesus says, “Do not judge others, and God will not judge you; do not condemn others, and God will not condemn you; forgive others, and God will forgive you” (Luke 6:37 GNT).

Sé Humilde o Tropezarás

“El temor del Señor enseña sabiduría; la humildad precede a la honra”. Proverbios 15:33 (NTV)

Las personas sabias permanecen humildes. Humilde y aprendiz van de la mano. Se humilde o tropezarás.

La humildad comienza simplemente dándote cuenta que no eres Dios. Cuando te estresas, repítete a ti mismo; “Dios es Dios, y yo no lo soy. Dios es Dios, y yo no lo soy. Dios es Dios, y yo no lo soy”.

Eso es humildad. Si no te das cuenta que no eres Dios, no eres una persona humilde.

La Biblia dice, “Dios se opone a los orgullosos pero da gracia a los humildes” Santiago 4:6b (NTV).

¿Tienes como meta convertirte en una persona más sabia?

Conoce a Dios. Te volverás más sabio construyendo relaciones, administrando el dinero, afrontando conflictos, resolviendo problemas y tratando con todo tipo de retos en la vida.

La Biblia nos dice, El temor del Señor enseña sabiduría; la humildad precede a la honra” Proverbios 15:33 (NTV).

La humildad dice que puedes aprender de cualquiera. No lo sabes todo. Nadie lo sabe todo. Por esa razón debemos permanecer dispuestos a la enseñanza, humildes y aprendices para toda la vida.

¿Qué cosas te ha enseñado Dios que nunca hubieras aprendido sin humildad?

You Can Forgive Others

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

God calls us to forgive others, but how do we do that? Here are four ways to help you let go of your pain, hurt, and bitterness.

Recognize that no one is perfect. When we’ve been hurt, we tend to lose our perspective about the person who offended us. But we need to remember that we are all imperfect people. Colossians 3:13 says, “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others” (NLT).

Relinquish your right to get even. Trust God to confront the person who hurt you and trust him to work things out for you. Choose compassion over your desire to retaliate. The Bible says, “Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it”” (Romans 12:19 The Message).

Respond to evil with good. Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (NIV). Getting even only brings you down to the other person’s level. Take the high road instead. The Bible says to treat your enemies with kindness. It’s nearly impossible to do this on your own. That’s why you need the love of Jesus to fill you up.

Refocus on God’s plan for your life. When you are focused on the people who hurt you, you’re actually letting them control your life. When you forgive them, you find the freedom to refocus on God’s purpose for your life. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you” (NLT).

Don’t go another day with resentment, bitterness, and unforgiveness in your heart. Start practicing these four choices and move on to live the life God created you to live.
