God Provides on the Way to the Miracle

“My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

Waiting for a miracle can be hard. Sometimes the road is cold, dark, and lonely; you may even find yourself stuck in a rut. You may not know where you’re going or how long the journey will take.

No matter where you are on the way to your miracle, here are some things you need to remember:

God is all you need.
You don’t need a big bank account, a full refrigerator, or even a job. If God wants to, he can have ravens drop food on you as his way of providing. That’s how he provided for the prophet Elijah, who was exhausted and burned-out in the desert; you can read about it in 1 Kings 17. When God turns off one source of provision, he can turn on another just as easily. You can trust him for all you need.

Where God guides, God provides.
After sending the ravens to feed Elijah, God told him to make a dangerous trip to Zarephath. There was a drought in Zarephath and very little food. Yet God provided for Elijah through a poor widow with a generous heart. When God tells you to go somewhere, go immediately. When God tells you to do something, do it right away. When God gives you direction, he will provide what you need to get there.

You must trust him one day at a time.
Why? Because some of your problems persist day after day. For instance, if you have financial problems, you’ll have to deal with them every day. And so we must trust God one day at a time to provide. The Bible says, “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 NIV).

God’s promises work when you’re obedient.
God often lays out his plan just one step at a time. He wants you to take the first step in obedience, and then he’ll show you the next step. Each step along the way may not seem logical, but you can obey in faith and confidence, knowing God’s way is always best.

Have you taken the first step of faith?
The first step of faith is asking Jesus to save you and take control of your life. If you’ve never done that, then I invite you to pray this prayer right now:

“Dear God, thank you for loving me and wanting me to depend on you. for loving me and wanting me to depend on you.Forgive me for when I’ve depended on my job, other people, and my own plans instead of you. I want to learn to trust you one day at a time. I want to go your way, not my way. I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. I want to follow you, and I ask you to save me and come into my life. I claim your promise that if I trust you, I will be saved and you’ll meet my needs. When you tell me what to do, I will obey. Help me to remember you’re all I need and where you guide, you’ll provide. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

La Obediencia es Incómoda, pero eso es Bueno

“Cuando (los sabios) ya se habían ido, un ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños a José y le dijo: «Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y huye a Egipto. Quédate allí hasta que yo te avise, porque Herodes va a buscar al niño para matarlo» Así que se levantó cuando todavía era de noche, tomó al niño y a su madre, y partió para Egipto, donde permaneció hasta la muerte de Herodes”. Mateo 2:13-15a (NVI)

El devocional de hoy es de Tom Holladay, pastor de enseñanza en la iglesia Saddleback.

José y María tuvieron que dejar muchas cosas debido a su jornada de fe. Ellos dejaron todo lo que conocían cuando se dirigieron a Egipto. Y en cierta forma, lo que estaban sacrificando era su comodidad a un nivel muy profundo.

A menudo no es cómodo confiar en Dios y seguir su plan, debido a que nos sentimos cómodos con las cosas equivocadas. Nos sentimos cómodos con nuestros pequeños hábitos y rituales, las cosas que nos detienen donde estamos en lugar de llevarnos a donde Dios quiere, para que crezcamos.

Si entregas tu salud a Dios, probablemente significará que debes renunciar a algunas de tus comidas favoritas. Si le entregas tus finanzas a Dios, probablemente eliminarás algunas cosas de tus gastos.

No es cómodo romper un hábito. Es incomodo enfrentar un miedo. Es incomodo ir a algún lugar en el que nunca has estado o perdonar a quienes te han herido. Pero crecer y cambiar siempre viene a través de hacer esas cosas incómodas, y eso es bueno.

Pero, si no tomamos esas decisiones, continuaremos aferrándonos a algo que nos hace sentir cómodos y terminaremos dándole la espalda a Dios, quién es la fuente del bienestar.

La Biblia dice, “Alabado sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre misericordioso y Dios de toda consolación” 2 Corintios 1:3 (NVI). Nota: Consolación es sentirte cómodo, o tener bienestar.

Te invito, como nunca antes, a reconocer que Dios es Dios de todo bienestar. Y en esos momentos cuando quieres darle la espalda a ese viejo hábito, tu antigua manera de vivir te intentará retener, habla con Dios y dile: “Dios, dame tu consolación”.

It’s Worth Waiting for God’s Miracle

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.’”

Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

Have you ever faced a big challenge in your life? Something that couldn’t be solved without a miracle?

If you haven’t, you will. And when that time comes, you’ll have a choice. You can wait on God’s timing and his way. Or you can take matters into your own hands and try to make a miracle happen yourself.

But the truth is that miracles don’t come from the places you expect them. And they don’t come as a result of your own effort. The source of a miracle is always unexpected.

Take Abraham, for example. God told Abraham he was going to have a son, and that the son would be the father of a great nation. Abraham was nearly 100 years old, and he and his wife had no children. It would take a miracle to make it happen.

But he had trouble believing God’s promise, and he didn’t wait on God to work a miracle. Instead, he took matters into his own hands and had a child with a woman who wasn’t his wife.

But that wasn’t God’s plan. God’s plan had been to work a miracle in Abraham’s wife, Sarah. Abraham’s solution was inferior to God’s.

The same is true for you. Your way of making things happen is always second best—God’s way is best.

If you could understand God, you would be God. But you’re not! Isaiah 55:8 says, “‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine’” (NLT).

Miracles always come in unexpected ways. So there’s no need to fret, fear, or try to figure it out.

Trust God and say, “I don’t know how God is going to do it but I know he will do it.”

Then simply obey and follow where God leads. And get ready for a miracle.

Obedeces a Dios Confiando en Dios

“Pero (José) no tuvo relaciones conyugales con ella hasta que dio a luz un hijo, a quien le puso por nombre Jesús”.   Mateo 1:25 (NVI)

El devocional de hoy está escrito por Tom Holladay, Pastor de enseñanza en la iglesia Saddleback.  

Algunas personas son buenas en lo inmediato. Pueden saltar directamente a cualquier cosa, pero no son buenos en “seguir constantes”. Y otras personas son buenas para persistir, pero les toma mucho tiempo llegar allí.

Para vivir la apasionante vida de fe que Dios planeó para ti, necesitas ser bueno en ambas, la inmediata y la persistente. Y ambas cosas requieren que te mantengas confiando.

José no entendió lo que significaba para Jesús tener un nacimiento virgen; No entendía que Jesús sería Dios en carne humana. Pero él sabía lo que Dios le dijo que hiciera, así que José siguió confiando. Era un recién casado que no tuvo una luna de miel, y su nuevo matrimonio no era algo como lo había planeado, pero seguía confiando.

¿Qué vas a hacer cuando la vida no funcione como planeaste o como querías?

Siempre me animo por lo que el apóstol Pablo dijo en 2 Corintios 4:8, “Por todos lados nos presionan las dificultades, pero no nos aplastan. Estamos perplejos, pero no caemos en la desesperación” (NTV).

No sé por qué algunas personas son diagnosticadas con cáncer terminal. No sé por qué algunos hijos se rebelan tanto contra sus padres. No sé por qué suceden tantas cosas que no tienen sentido. Pero, es alentador escuchar a uno de los más grandes hombres de fe decir: “No sé por qué suceden las cosas, pero yo todavía elijo no darme por vencido”.

Es bueno saber que podemos confiar en Dios y que Él sabe cosas que nosotros no sabemos. Él ha prometido que un día pondrá todo en orden. Un día reunirá a todos los que confían en Él.

Hasta entonces hay dos maneras de vivir tu vida. Puedes vivir con la sensación de que Dios te debe una explicación o puedes vivir dándote cuenta de que Dios te ha dado grandes regalos.

Si vives la vida sintiéndote como que Dios te debe una explicación, sólo terminarás en un constante estado de amargura, porque Dios no te debe nada.

Pero, aunque no te debe nada, te ha dado todo. Te dio su propio Hijo. Te dio el regalo de la vida eterna. Te dio la promesa de estar con Él para siempre. Esos son grandes regalos.

The Uncomfortable Path to a Miracle

“Then the LORD spoke his word to Elijah, ‘Go to Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I have commanded a widow there to take care of you.’ So Elijah went to Zarephath.”

1 Kings 17:8-10 (NCV)

Sometimes you’re scared to death and vulnerable. You don’t know where you’re going, how long it’s going to take, or what’s going to happen when you get there. So what do you do?

You remember that the path to a miracle often goes through uncomfortable territory.

The Bible gives an illustration in 1 Kings 17:8-10: “Then the Lord spoke his word to Elijah, ‘Go to Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I have commanded a widow there to take care of you.’ So Elijah went to Zarephath” (NCV).

God’s instructions meant that Elijah would have to walk more than 100 miles during a drought through dangerous territory. Everyone he met would know who he was—and King Ahab had a price on his head. Elijah’s path was definitely an uncomfortable one.

When Elijah finally made it to Zarephath, he met a poor widow who was going to feed him. But the town still was full of pagan people who wouldn’t hesitate to kill him. How could the widow defend or protect him?

Miracles don’t happen when things are comfortable. Miracles happen when things are uncomfortable.

Elijah didn’t say, “God, there are three things wrong with this plan. One, you’re sending me in the wrong direction. Two, you’re sending me to the wrong location. And three, you’re sending me to the wrong protection.”

Elijah just obeyed.

God’s path to a miracle often takes you through uncomfortable territory so you’ll learn to depend on him. It was true for Elijah and for God’s people throughout the Bible. For instance:

When Moses led the Israelites out of slavery to the Promised Land, they had to go through the Red Sea first.Before David could slay Goliath, he had to walk onto the battlefield.God told Jehoshaphat to put the choir before the army, and he’d win the victory. How much faith do you think that took?

Miracles never happen in your comfort zone. When everything is settled in your life, you don’t need a miracle. You only need a miracle when you’re at a low.

Are you at a place where things are a little uncomfortable—financially, emotionally, relationally, or physically? Maybe you’re nervous, unsettled, or insecure. Congratulations. You’re on the path to a miracle!

On your uncomfortable path, follow the example of Elijah. Obey God so you can see his miracle at the end of the road.

No Esperes para Obedecer a Dios

“Me apresuraré sin demora a obedecer tus mandatos”.   Salmos 119:60 (NTV)

El devocional de hoy está escrito por Tom Holladay, Pastor de enseñanza en la iglesia Saddleback.

Esta semana, mientras pensamos sobre obediencia y como vivirla, quiero que observes las cinco acciones que tomó José que demostraron su obediencia a Dios.

Cuando el ángel apareció a José en un sueño, le dijo a José, “José, hijo de David, no temas recibir a María por esposa, porque ella ha concebido por obra del Espíritu Santo” Mateo 1:20 (NVI). Así qué, eso fue lo que hizo José: “Cuando José se despertó, hizo lo que el ángel del Señor le había mandado y recibió a María por esposa” Mateo 1:24 (NVI). Él no se quejó, ¡simplemente lo hizo!

Hay una inmediación refrescante en la relación entre José y Dios. Cuando Dios habla, José actúa.

Si crees que Dios te ama y quieres vivir una vida de obediencia en respuesta a su amor, entonces así es como debes responder. Vivir en obediencia inmediata a Dios es un tipo de vida que respira emoción y alegría.

He tenido la oportunidad de encontrar a muchos hombres y mujeres de fe alrededor del mundo. Todos ellos son diferentes unos de los otros, pero todos ellos tienen una cosa en común: Cuando ellos sienten que Dios está diciendo que hagan algo, ellos no se quejan. Ellos dan un paso adelante y lo hacen.

La Biblia dice en 1 Juan 5:3, “En esto consiste el amor a Dios: en que obedezcamos sus mandamientos. Y estos no son difíciles de cumplir” (NVI). Así que si lo que Dios te pide que hagas se siente como un peso, ¿qué está mal? Usualmente es la postergación. Cuando no actuamos en el acto, se hace más difícil hacerlo después. Pero cuando lo hacemos en el momento que Dios nos lo dice, tendremos una libertad refrescante en nuestras vidas. 

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre obediencia inmediata y obediencia tardía? ¿Cuáles son los efectos de cada una?¿Qué es lo que Dios te está llamando para hacer? ¿Es una llamada que necesitas hacer? ¿Una acción que necesitas realizar?Cualquier cosa que esté pidiendo que hagas, escríbelo inmediatamente, dile a Dios que deseas hacerlo, y pídele que te de la fortaleza que necesitas para lograrlo.

How to Receive the Grace to Keep Going Through Troubles

“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’”

2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (NIV)

What do you do when you can’t fix a problem, solve a riddle, change a circumstance, or control a hurt? You throw yourself on the sustaining grace of God.

He offers you the kind of grace you need to keep going in spite of temptations, trials, tension, tiredness, and troubles. To accept his grace, do these four things:

Cry out for God’s help. When you pretend to be self-sufficient, you short-circuit God’s power in your life. You need to admit your inadequacy and say, “God, I can’t handle this!” The Bible says, “‘God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.’ So give yourselves completely to God . . . Come near to God, and God will come near to you” (James 4:6-8 NCV).

Fill your mind with God’s Word. Let God’s Word comfort, strengthen, fill, soothe, and energize you to keep going. Get into it every single day of your life. The psalmist prayed, “I lie in the dust; revive me by your word” (Psalm 119:25 NLT). If you could find the solution within yourself, you’d already be changed. You need to look to God! He’s the only one with sustaining strength.

Accept support from God’s people. The Bible says that, by helping each other with our troubles, we obey the law of Christ, which is, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” God never meant for you to go through life on your own. Our weaknesses help us realize how much we need each other. You need to accept support from God’s people.

Hold on to God’s promises. There are around 5,500 of them in the Bible waiting to be claimed. Here’s one of them: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV). Keep your hope in the Lord and your eyes focused on the hope of heaven, not just on the here and now.

The Bible says, “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NIV).

When you’re going through a problem you can’t fix, don’t give up. Just look up!

Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

You need God’s sustaining grace to get you through every circumstance of your life. But you need God’s grace most of all for your salvation.

The Bible says we all fall short of God’s perfect standard. Yet God still loves us—even though we sin and we’re flawed. In fact, God loves us so much that he showed us the ultimate grace: He sent his Son, Jesus, to cleanse us from our sins, and to bring us into the family of God.

If you’ve never accepted God’s love and invited Jesus into your heart, I want you to have that opportunity now. You can accept God’s gracious gift of salvation by praying:

“Dear God, I don’t understand it all, but I thank you for loving me. I thank you that you are gracious toward me and that you didn’t send Jesus to condemn me but to save me.

“I confess that I have sinned against you, and I admit I need Jesus as my Savior. I want a relationship with Jesus. I want to follow him and do the things he tells me to do.

“I ask you to save me from my past, regrets, mistakes, sins, habits, hurts, and hang-ups.

“I ask you to save me for your purpose. I want to know why you put me on this planet. And I want to fulfill what you made me to do. I want to learn to love you, to live in your grace, and to be in your family forever. In your name I pray, amen.”

Obediencia Bíblica: Amor + Confianza + Acción

“Si me aman, obedezcan mis mandamientos”.   Juan 14:15 (NTV)

Todos estamos familiarizados con la historia de la Navidad. ¿Pero alguna vez te has detenido para ponerte en los zapatos de José? Aquí tenemos a un hombre que descubre que su prometida está embarazada, y dice que fue visitada por un ángel que le anunció que el bebé que espera es de Dios. ¡Y quiere que José le crea!

En un instante el mundo de José se vino abajo. Esta no era la forma en que se suponía que su vida tenía que ser. Simplemente no tenía sentido.

¿Conoces la sensación? Tal vez tus finanzas se desploman repentinamente, o comienza una serie de despidos en tu trabajo, o recibes la noticia de una crisis de salud en tu familia. ¿Cómo lo vas a manejar? ¿Qué haces cuando las cosas no tienen sentido?

José escogió hacer lo que Dios le dijo que hiciera, y eso cambió todo. Decidió obedecer a Dios, aunque no comprendiera lo que estaba pasando.

En nuestros días, la palabra obedecer tiene una connotación negativa. Vemos la obediencia como una decisión forzada, no decidida, por hacer algo que no queremos por simple temor al castigo.

Pero este no es el tipo de obediencia que vemos en la Palabra de Dios. En la Biblia, obediencia significa: amor + confianza + acción.

Comienza con amor, como Jesús lo dice en Juan 14:15: “Si me aman, obedezcan mis mandamientos” (NTV). La obediencia viene de saber que Dios te ama y tú le amas en respuesta.

Muchísima gente piensa que la obediencia tiene que ver con tener temor a Dios, pero Dios quiere que veamos la obediencia hacia Él como expresión de una relación de amor. Y del amor sale la confianza. Si confías en lo que Dios te está diciendo y crees que Él te ama, eso te llevará a la acción.

Debes tener los tres, pues la acción sin amor es un simple ritual religioso. Y amor sin acción son solo palabras.

José fue capaz de aceptar lo que María y el ángel le dijeron, debido a su relación con Dios. Él sabía que Dios lo amaba, y él amaba a Dios. Confió en Dios y tomó la decisión de hacer lo que Dios le pidió. Y a causa de eso, la vida de José sigue impactando vidas hasta el día de hoy.

¿Cómo has experimentado los beneficios de obedecer a Dios en las pequeñas cosas de la vida?¿Cómo puedes modelar en tus hijos tu relación con Dios, que es motivada por el amor y te lleva a la obediencia?¿Por qué la confianza es tan importante en una relación de amor?

How Does God’s Grace Get You Through?

“My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.”

1 Peter 5:12 (NLT)

You’ll face many pitfalls in the marathon of life. But regardless of what you go through, you can count on God’s sustaining grace.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:12, “My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace” (NLT).

There are three times in life when it will be easy for you to stumble, to get cast off to the side of the race, and to not finish well. But in each of these situations, God’s sustaining grace will get you through it.

God’s sustaining grace helps you keep standing when you’re tempted. Temptation is the first thing that can cause you to stumble. The Bible says, “God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT).

God says, “I will provide the sustaining grace to always give you a way of escape.” That way of escape may mean turning the television channel. It may mean running out the door. It may mean changing the way you’re thinking. But God will provide a way to escape temptation.

God’s sustaining grace helps you keep standing when you’re tired. Sometimes you’re not tempted. Sometimes you’re just tired! Life is often exhausting. It requires a lot of energy, especially when you’re trying to do the right thing rather than the easy thing.

But where do you get the power to do the right thing when you’re dead tired? “It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NLT). Having the Holy Spirit in your heart gives you the energy to do the things you can’t do in your own power. 

God’s sustaining grace gives you the power to keep going when you’re troubled. There are some hurts that all the wishing in the world won’t make go away. Some things in life are unplanned, unrelenting, and undeserved—and they hurt the most.

What do you do in those situations? You first stop doing the “if only” game and instead focus on Christ and his sustaining power. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you” (NCV).

Remember that you’re never alone in life and never without hope. Whether you’re tempted, tired, or troubled, you can count on God’s sustaining grace to uphold you.

Arrepentimiento: Cómo Cambiar tu Piloto Automático

“Dejen que Dios los transforme en personas nuevas al cambiarles la manera de pensar”.  Romanos 12:2b (NTV)

Imagínate en un bote de velocidad en un lago con el piloto automático puesto hacia el este. Si decides cambiar de rumbo y dirigirte hacia el oeste, tienes dos formas posibles para hacer el cambio de dirección del bote.

Una forma es tomar el timón y forzarlo físicamente para ir en dirección opuesta a la que está programado el piloto automático. Con solamente tu propia fuerza podrías sobrepasar el piloto automático, pero sentirías constantemente la resistencia. Tus brazos acabarían cansándose del estrés, dejarías ir el volante, y el bote iría de inmediato hacia el este, al lugar hacia donde fue internamente programado.

Esto es lo que pasa cuando tratas de cambiar tu vida con tu fuerza de voluntad: Dices: “Me obligaré a comer menos… haré más ejercicios… Dejaré de ser desorganizado e impuntual”.

La fuerza de voluntad puede producir un cambio a corto plazo, pero también crea un constante estrés interno porque no has tratado con la raíz. El cambio no se siente natural, por lo que finalmente renunciarás y rápidamente volverás a tus viejos patrones.

Hay una manera mejor y más fácil: Cambia tu piloto automático. ¡Cambia la manera en que piensas! La Biblia dice. “Dejen que Dios los transforme en personas nuevas al cambiarles la manera de pensar” Romanos 12:2b (NTV).

El Nuevo Testamento llama a este cambio mental el arrepentimiento, que en griego significa literalmente “cambiar de opinión”. Te arrepientes cada vez que cambias tu forma de pensar adoptando la forma en que piensa Dios: sobre ti, el pecado, Dios, otras personas, tu vida, tu futuro, y todo lo demás. Tomando la perspectiva y la actitud de Cristo. 

Reflexiona sobre esto :  

¿Cuál ha sido tu resultado al intentar hacer cambios con tus propias fuerzas?¿Cómo puedes asumir nuevos hábitos que te ayudarán a pensar más como Dios?¿Qué diferencia hay entre cómo piensa Dios de las cosas que debes cambiar en tu vida y la forma en que tú piensas?
