You Don’t Need to Fight Critics

“So I replied by sending this message to them: ‘I am engaged in a great work, so I can’t come. Why should I stop working to come and meet with you?’ Four times they sent the same message, and each time I gave the same reply.”

Nehemiah 6:3-4 (NLT)

God uniquely created you for an important assignment on Earth that only you can accomplish.

But you will face naysayers along the way. They’ll tell you: “You’re the wrong person. You’ve got the wrong idea. You’re doing it the wrong way.”

Take the Old Testament story of Nehemiah, for example. Nehemiah wasn’t a pastor or a priest. He was a businessman. Israel had been taken captive by the Babylonians. The Israelites had been in exile for 70 years—and then the Babylonians let them go home.

Jerusalem had been destroyed and was defenseless. But Nehemiah got a big idea to change that. “I’ll rebuild my city,” he thought. “And I’ll start by rebuilding the wall to protect it.”

Nehemiah’s story teaches that every opportunity comes with opposition.

For Nehemiah, the opposition was instant. Israel’s enemies didn’t want to see Jerusalem defended. They tried all sorts of things to stop him from rebuilding the wall. They tried ridicule, rumors, and threats. When none of that worked, they tried to slow him down by involving him in bunch of meetings.

Your critics—the naysayers who want to prevent you from doing what the Lord has called you to do—will use the same bag of tricks. They’ll ridicule you, spread rumors about you, and even threaten you to get you to stop doing what God wants you to do.

But instead of listening to them, respond the way that Nehemiah did: “So I replied by sending this message to them: ‘I am engaged in a great work, so I can’t come. Why should I stop working to come and meet with you?’ Four times they sent the same message, and each time I gave the same reply” (Nehemiah 6:3-4 NLT).

You don’t need to fight with naysayers. It’s not worth it. If you try to take on people who have a negative opinion about God’s plans for you, you’ll just waste your time.

Nehemiah didn’t defend his work. You don’t need to defend yourself either. Just let the naysayers’ criticisms go.

One day God’s work through your life will be proven correct. Have enough faith to wait for that day to come.

Viviendo por Amor al Cielo

“Si de veras se acordaran de la tierra de donde salieron tendrían oportunidad de regresar. Pero ellos anhelaban una patria superior; es decir, la celestial. Por eso Dios no se avergüenza de llamarse el Dios de ellos, porque les ha preparado una ciudad”.  Hebreos 11:15-16 (RVA-2015)  

El Cielo cambia todo respecto a cómo vives hoy. Si te diriges al Cielo (y después del devocional de ayer, yo espero que así sea), entonces esa realidad debe impactar como vives aquí en la tierra.

Tu sistema de valores cambia. En lugar de vivir por el aquí y el ahora, tu vivirás por la eternidad. También vives sabiendo que tu futuro está asegurado. No importa lo que ocurra en la tierra, tendrás una eternidad con Dios en el lugar más sorprendente que hayas estado.

Así que, ¿cómo vives si sabes que tu destino eterno es el Cielo?

No seas distraído por la tentación. “Amados hermanos en Cristo, les hablo como si ustedes fueran extranjeros y estuvieran de paso por este mundo. No hagan nada que obedezca a sus malos deseos, pues esos deseos los llevarán a la perdición” 1 Pedro 2:11 (TLA). Puedes ser distraído por muchas cosas —buenas y malas. Mantente enfocado en lo que tiene significado eterno. Evita las gratificaciones, aun cuando todo en la sociedad intenta que hagas lo opuesto. Enfócate en lo que hay adelante.No te desanimes por los problemas. La Biblia dice, “Así que no miramos las dificultades que ahora vemos; en cambio, fijamos nuestra vista en cosas que no pueden verse. Pues las cosas que ahora podemos ver pronto se habrán ido, pero las cosas que no podemos ver permanecerán para siempre” 2 Corintios 4:18 (NTV). Cuando vives en la luz de la eternidad, los problemas no parecen ser tan molestos. Sabes que los problemas no durarán para siempre, así que simplemente no te rindas.Enfoca tu energía en lo que permanecerá. “Piensen en las cosas del Cielo, donde Cristo gobierna a la derecha de Dios. No piensen en las cosas de este mundo” Colosenses 3:2 (TLA). Cumple los propósitos de Dios en tu vida. Vive una vida de adoración. Construye una relación con la gente de Dios. Invierte tu tiempo en ser más como Jesús a través del discipulado. Sirve a otros con amor. Háblale a otros de Jesús. Esas actividades dan el fruto que dura para siempre.

Tú fuiste hecho para el Cielo. Si haces que Jesús sea el Señor de tu vida, pasarás la eternidad ahí. Deja que esta verdad se profundice por un momento, entonces, cambiará tu vida.

Don’t Let Fear Keep You from God’s Vision

“The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.”

Proverbs 29:25 (The Message)

Anyone who has ever tried to do anything great has, at some point, come face-to-face with naysayers.

When the Wright brothers tried to fly their first plane, people told them it would never work because humans can’t fly.When Moses led the Israelites across the desert, the people complained: “We’re going to die! We want to go back to Egypt!”When John F. Kennedy said the United States would send a man to the moon, many people said it could never be done.

If these people had let the naysayers discourage them, imagine where the world would be today! While some naysayers have evil plans, not all naysayers are bad people. Some may truly want what’s best for you. They may even love you.

But they’re not God.

So don’t treat their opinions like you would God’s opinions.

The Bible says, “The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that” (Proverbs 29:25 The Message).

Some of you have been disabled by the opinions of others and you don’t even realize it. Others have become addicted to the approval of others.

But consider another translation of Proverbs 29:25: “It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe” (GNT).

Other people’s opinions can sidetrack you from God’s purpose for your life.

When you give more weight to the opinions of others than you do to God’s opinion, you stay on the sidelines when God wants you in the game. You stay locked up in a prison of self-made fear.

Don’t let that happen.

Let go of your fears and trust God’s vision for your life. He’s your biggest cheerleader. He wants you to succeed, and he’s working in your life so you will.

Descubriendo el Misterio del Cielo

“Ningún ojo ha visto, ningún oído ha escuchado, ninguna mente ha imaginado lo que Dios tiene preparado para quienes lo aman”.  1 Corintios 2:9b (NTV)

Mi familia vivía en el norte de California cuando yo era pequeño. Una vez nos fuimos de vacaciones en familia a Disneylandia en el Sur de California. Mientras conducíamos, mi papá intentó explicarme como sería Disneylandia. Fue una pérdida de tiempo. No puedes entender lo que es Disneylandia a menos que lo experimentes.

Algunas experiencias simplemente son inexplicables.

Lo mismo sucede con el Cielo. No podemos comparar el Cielo con ninguna otra cosa que hayamos experimentado en la tierra. El planeta donde vivimos ahora es pobre
—muy pobre— no se parece al lugar que Dios ha preparado para nosotros en la eternidad.

La Biblia nos da indicios de este misterio en 1 Corintios 2:9b “Ningún ojo ha visto, ningún oído ha escuchado, ninguna mente ha imaginado lo que Dios tiene preparado para quienes lo aman” (NTV).

Aunque las palabras humanas no pueden explicar apropiadamente los misterios divinos del Cielo, sabemos un poco de como lucirá el Cielo:

Nos reuniremos con todos y cada uno de los creyentes (Hebreos 12:22-23). El libro de Hebreos nos dice que cada creyente que ha vivido en algún momento de la historia estará en el Cielo con nosotros. Eso incluye cada persona que has conocido que siguió a Jesús —y los niños que nunca tuvieron la oportunidad de tomar esa decisión.Todos seremos recompensados (Lucas 6:35). La Biblia a menudo menciona recompensas en el Cielo. Tú serás recompensado por tus buenas acciones —tu generosidad, tu buen carácter y tu servicio. Dios observa todo. Tienes que decidir dónde vas a recibir tus recompensas: En este lado temporal de la eternidad o en el lado que durará para siempre.Tendremos responsabilidades (Lucas 16:10-12). Tú tendrás trabajo en el Cielo. Esta es la diferencia: Usarás la forma que Dios te dio para hacer lo que te gusta hacer. Estarás cien por ciento satisfecho por el trabajo que hagas. No conozco cuál será tu responsabilidad en el Cielo. Lucas 16 dice que dependerá de cómo manejes tus responsabilidades aquí en la tierra.Hallaremos descanso en el Cielo (Hebreos 4:9-11). Para muchos de nosotros, descanso eterno en el Cielo suena muy bien. Después de una vida de trabajo, todos descansaremos en el Cielo como nunca antes. Sí, trabajaremos, pero nuestro trabajo en el Cielo será de alegría y tranquilidad, no una carga.Todos nos gozaremos en el Cielo (Mateo 25:21). ¡Todos vamos a festejar en el Cielo! Disfrutaremos estar con Dios en el Cielo. Disfrutaremos estar unos con otros en el Cielo. ¡Vamos a tener una fiesta por la eternidad en el Cielo!

Intenta explicarle a alguien más sobre el lugar más sorprendente que alguna vez hayas visitado. Después de que lo hagas, pregúntate por qué es tan difícil explicarles a otros sobre el Cielo.¿Con quién te quieres reunir en el Cielo? ¿Por qué?Si vas a trabajar en el Cielo, pero será en algo que te quede perfecto y además te encanta hacer, ¿Qué tipo de trabajo crees que podrá ser?

Faith That Persists Above Feelings

“It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.”

Hebrews 11:27 (NLT)

There is a strong belief in our culture that influences every one of us, whether we want it to or not: If it feels good, do it.

But this kind of thinking allows you to be manipulated by your moods—making you live according to your feelings. God wants you to live a different kind of life. He wants you to live a life of faith, not a life of feelings.

We don’t always feel like doing the right thing. I don’t know about you, but I don’t always feel like being nice to people. I don’t always feel like stopping what I’m doing to help someone. I don’t always feel like believing God’s promises for my life.

But our goal as believers is to develop the kind of faith that persists above feelings. You deepen your relationship with God when you spend time with him, even on days when you don’t feel like it.

It’s like an Olympic athlete exercising when she doesn’t feel like it or a great musician practicing his craft, even when he’s tired. It’s the same with your relationship with God.

People who have a regular, consistent quiet time with God didn’t get there because they felt like spending time with God every single morning. They got there because they woke up and decided to read the Bible and pray, even when they didn’t feel like it.

Faith is being persistent. Faith is refusing to give up no matter how tired you are or how many other things you wish you could be doing.

Through the example of Moses, the Bible shows us how to begin to develop persistence. Hebrews 11:27 says, “It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible” (NLT).

That’s how you get there. That’s how you persist. You begin to see the invisible. Only those who see God for who he really is can persist in the most difficult times of life. Only those who see the invisible can do the impossible.

Believe in faith what God can do in your life, and thank him in advance for how he is going to work.

La Cruz dice, ‘déjalo ir’

“Cuídense unos a otros, para que ninguno de ustedes deje de recibir la gracia de Dios. Tengan cuidado de que no brote ninguna raíz venenosa de amargura, la cual los trastorne a ustedes y envenene a muchos”.   Hebreos 12:15 (NTV)

El perdón es gratuito, pero no es barato. Le costó la vida a Jesucristo. Y tampoco es fácil. El perdón sólo puede ocurrir cuando la persona ofendida asume la deuda y no para desquitarse o vengarse. Eso es lo que Jesús hizo por nosotros. Eso es lo que Él nos llama a hacer a los demás.

Pero ¿cómo puedes liberar tu dolor? La Biblia nos dice que hay tres pasos que podemos tomar para encontrar libertad del perdón.

Déjaselo a Dios. Ríndete al derecho de desquitarte. El tratar de desquitarte sólo intensifica el conflicto. En su lugar, deja que Dios ajuste cuentas.Sánalo con la Gracia. La única manera de dejar ir tu dolor es sostenerte de la gracia de Dios. La Biblia dice: “Cuídense unos a otros, para que ninguno de ustedes deje de recibir la gracia de Dios. Tengan cuidado de que no brote ninguna raíz venenosa de amargura, la cual los trastorne a ustedes y envenene a muchos” Hebreos 12:15 (NTV). La amargura es contagiosa.Clávalo en la Cruz. La cruz es la respuesta de Dios a todas tus necesidades. Jesús murió para que tú pudieras ser perdonado. Murió para que puedas estar libre del temor, la amargura, y el resentimiento. No hay terapia, no hay pastillas, no hay psicología, no hay seminarios de autoayuda, que puedan liberarte, como el poder de la cruz.

La Biblia dice, “Sabemos que nuestra vida de antes murió con Cristo en la cruz para que fuera destruido lo que desea pecar dentro de nosotros y dejáramos de ser esclavos del pecado” Romanos 6:6 (PDT). Ya no seas un esclavo del pecado al no perdonar. Libera tus sentimientos sobre la persona que te lastimó. Hazlo todos los días si es necesario. No importa cuántas veces recuerdes esa escena dolorosa, tráesela a Dios, pídele su gracia y luego deja tu dolor en la cruz.

God Wants to Spend Eternity with You

“If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you.”

Romans 8:11 (GNT)

God never promised this life would be fair. We live on a broken planet. Heaven is where everything is done God’s way. Life on Earth just doesn’t work like that.

But what happens on this Earth isn’t all there is to life.

You’ll spend 60, 80, or maybe 100 years on Earth. You’ll spend trillions of years in eternity. If you’ve placed your faith in Jesus, the Bible says you’ll spend eternity with God in heaven.

That’s one of the most important reasons Christians should be joyful—God has given us eternal life!

The Bible promises, “If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you” (Romans 8:11 GNT).

Eternity will be amazing. What will heaven be like? You’ll be reunited with people you love. You’ll get rewards. You’ll get rest. You’ll get responsibilities you love.

And, as 1 Corinthians 15:42 says, you’ll get a new body because, even though your earthly body will be buried in the ground, it will be raised to live with God forever.

You were created because God wants a family, and he wants to spend eternity with his family. He wants to spend eternity with you and me! That truth can bring you great joy.

Talk It Over

How does knowing life is short compared to all of eternity change the way you live?

Easter’s Promise: No Condemnation for Those Who Belong to Christ

God has prepared a beautiful eternity in heaven for his family. But the Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. You can’t earn God’s love or work your way into heaven. The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer? If you’re ready to step across that line and make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, pray this prayer:

"Father, you promise that, if I believe in Jesus, I will be forgiven. I ask for that forgiveness now. I know that I am a sinner and that only you can cancel the record of all the things I’ve done wrong.

"Jesus Christ, I believe that you died to pay for my sins. I believe that you then rose again, breaking the power of death so that I can have eternal life with you in heaven. Thank you for saving me. Thank you that I don’t have to earn, deserve, or work for my salvation. It is your gift of grace. All I have to do is accept it.

"Today I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior.

"I want to use the rest of my life to serve you. Thank you for loving me, saving me, and accepting me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen."

Por qué no puedes Perdonar varias veces a Alguien

“Señor, ¿cuántas veces debo perdonar a alguien que peca contra mí? ¿Siete veces?”.  Mateo 18:21b (NTV)

Todos tenemos fuentes de irritación en nuestras vidas —personas que repetidamente nos lastiman o nos maltratan. Lo último que queremos hacer es perdonarlos.

Pedro tenía una preocupación similar, así que un día le preguntó a Jesús, “Señor, ¿cuántas veces debo perdonar a alguien que peca contra mí? ¿Siete veces?”  Mateo 18:21b (NTV). Pedro pensó que estaba siendo generoso cuando él decía, “¿siete veces?”. La ley judía requiere que perdones a una persona tres veces. Así que Pedro dice, “doblo eso y lo hago una vez más, esa es una buena medida”. “—No siete veces—respondió Jesús—, sino setenta veces siete“.  Mateo 18:22b (NTV).

En otras palabras, no hay ningún límite. Jesús estaba diciendo que si estás manteniendo un puntaje, entonces estás perdiendo el punto. Si estás contando, entonces no cuenta.

Jesús parece dar una orden imposible, seguir perdonando pase lo que pase. ¿Por qué es tan importante que hagamos esto? Déjame darte tres razones.

Dios me ha perdonado a mí.

La Biblia dice que tú y yo tenemos una deuda con Dios, y la deuda es tan grande que no podemos pagarla por nuestra cuenta. Pero Dios ha escogido, en Su misericordia, perdonarnos y decir, “vamos a empezar de nuevo”. ¡Es una buena noticia! Dios ha perdonado mis pecados, y ahora Él quiere perdonar a otras personas. Efesios 4:32 dice, “Más bien, sean bondadosos y compasivos unos con otros, y perdónense mutuamente, así como Dios los perdonó a ustedes en Cristo” (NVI). La clave del perdón es reconocer cuánto Dios me perdona cada día. Cuando me siento perdonado, entonces soy indulgente.

El resentimiento me hace miserable.

El resentimiento es el infierno en la tierra. Te tortura, y es una herida infligida a ti mismo. Job 21:23-25 dice, “Hay quienes mueren … rebosantes de salud y de paz… otros mueren con el ánimo amargado” (NVI). Es necesario aprender a perdonar, porque el resentimiento va a arruinar tu vida.

El cuarto de tortura de la falta de perdón es auto-impuesto. Cuando no perdonamos, Dios no tiene que encerrarnos en la cárcel. Lo hacemos nosotros mismos. Nos encerramos en una prisión de ira y ansiedad. Repasamos el daño una y otra vez, y cada vez es más grande y más grande y sigue lastimándonos mucho después de que ha ocurrido. El perdón de Jesucristo es la llave que abre la cárcel. Puede liberarte. Por tu propio bien, debes aprender a perdonar.

En el futuro yo necesitaré perdón.

Alguien le dijo una vez a John Wesley, el fundador del Metodismo, “Nunca pude perdonar a esa persona”. Wesley le dijo, “Entonces espero que nunca vayas a pecar”. Tú y yo pecaremos otra vez. Necesitaremos perdón otra vez. Pero el perdón es una vía de doble sentido. No quemes el puente que tienes que cruzar para ser perdonado.

Ahora, el perdón no es una restauración inmediata de la confianza. El perdón es inmediato. La confianza debe ser reconstruida con el tiempo. Por ejemplo, si el marido de una mujer es abusivo, ella debe perdonarlo, pero eso no significa que ella debe dejarlo entrar en la casa inmediatamente y seguir su vida como si nada hubiera pasado.

El perdón es instantáneo y no se gana, pero la confianza debe ser ganada.

God Designed You for More

“We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

God created you to live in heaven with him for eternity. Heaven is your home—not Earth.

That’s why you sometimes experience discontentment and dissatisfaction in life. You’re not completely happy here because you’re not supposed to be!

If you were totally happy on Earth, you might think you could live without God. But God created you to long for something much better—a home in heaven with him.

A fish would never be happy living on land, because it was made for water. An eagle could never feel satisfied if it wasn’t allowed to fly.

You will never feel completely satisfied on Earth, because you were made for more. You will have happy moments here, but it’s nothing compared to what God has planned for you in eternity.

This is also why some of God’s promises seem unfulfilled, some prayers seem unanswered, and some circumstances seem unfair. This life is not the end of the story.

When you realize life on Earth is just temporary, it radically alters your values. Eternal values, not temporal ones, become the deciding factor for your decisions.

The Bible tells us to “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV).

The next time you find yourself longing for more than this life offers you, remember that’s just evidence that you were made for something more!

Talk It Over

How does Easter weekend remind you that you were made for more than this Earth offers?

Have you trusted God’s promise of salvation?

I can think of no better way to celebrate Easter than by repenting of your sins and trusting God for salvation through Jesus. If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I believe you created me to live with you for eternity. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are God, my Savior. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning every part of my life over to you. I want to follow you and do what you tell me to do.

¿Por qué Debemos Mostrar Misericordia?

“Sean misericordiosos, como también su Padre es misericordioso”.  Lucas 6:36 (RVA-2015)

Ninguna característica describe a Dios más plenamente que la misericordia. Es el primer rasgo que Dios usa para describirse a sí mismo en la Escritura. Es también una característica importante para que cualquier seguidor de Jesús, desarrolle. Si es una parte central de lo que Dios es, tiene que ser esencial para nosotros.

Pero ¿qué debe motivarnos el mostrar misericordia a las personas en nuestras vidas?

Dios es misericordioso.

Jesús dijo: “Sean misericordiosos, como también su Padre es misericordioso” Lucas 6:36 (NVI).

Antes de juzgar a otros por sus pecados y fracasos, recuerda cuántas veces Dios te ha perdonado. Cuando parezca incómodo ayudar a alguien que lo necesita, detente y recuerda cómo Dios te ha consolado cuando estás sufriendo. Cuando piensas en aquellas personas que prueban tu paciencia, detente y recuerda cuán paciente Dios ha estado contigo. Y cuando sientas ganas de recibir a alguien que ha sido cruel o injusto contigo, para y recuerda cuán amable era Dios para ti cuando tú eras su enemigo (ver Romanos 5:10).

Necesito misericordia todos los días.

No puedo esperar ser perfecto desde ahora hasta el momento en que muera, así que voy a necesitar más misericordia. La Biblia dice: “pues a los que no tienen compasión de otros, tampoco se les tendrá compasión cuando sean juzgados” Santiago 2:13a (RVC). Necesito el perdón, la bondad, la paciencia y la ayuda de Dios todos los días de mi vida. Dios dice que obtienes lo que das. El perdón y la misericordia son una vía de doble sentido.

La misericordia me hace feliz.

Jesús dijo: “Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos recibirán misericordia” Mateo 5:7 (RVA). Hacer actos de misericordia me saca de mí mismo. Obtiene mi enfoque fuera de mí y sobre otras personas. Y eso produce felicidad. De hecho, una buena manera de tratar la depresión es a través de actos de misericordia. Cuando entregas tu vida por los demás, la felicidad comienza a volver a ti, y las nubes de la depresión comienzan a levantarse y a volar lejos.
