¿Como Puedes Almacenar Tesoros en el Cielo?

“Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón”. Mateo 6:21 (NVI)

Vas a disfrutar para siempre lo que inviertes en el cielo, e inviertes en el cielo cada vez que usas dinero para el bien.

Ayer hablamos de invertir en la eternidad al usar tu dinero para crecer en carácter, animar el compañerismo en el cuerpo de Cristo, y servir a otros en necesidad. Hay dos fondos más en los que debes invertir para que puedas recibir dividendos eternos en el cielo.

El cuarto fondo de inversión de Dios es el fondo Global. Es cuando usas tu dinero para compartir las buenas nuevas y llevar personas a Jesús. Lucas 16:9 dice, “Por eso les digo que se valgan de las riquezas mundanas para ganar amigos, a fin de que cuando estas se acaben haya quienes los reciban a ustedes en las viviendas eternas” (NVI).
Muchas personas no tienen idea lo que este versículo significa. ¿Está diciendo que puedes comprar amigos? Para nada. Significa que Dios quiere que inviertas en cosas que ayudan a que personas lleguen al cielo para que cuando tú llegues al cielo, ellos te den la bienvenida ahí.
Es la inversión más grande de tu vida. ¿Alguien va a ir al cielo por causa tuya?El último fondo de inversión de Dios es el Fondo del Tesoro. Cuando das dinero a Dios como un acto de adoración, a eso se le llama el fondo del tesoro.

Dios hizo la promesa en Proverbios 3:9-10, “Demuéstrale a Dios que para ti él es lo más importante. Dale de lo que tienes y de todo lo que ganes; así nunca te faltará ni comida ni bebida” (TLA). El diezmo es cuando das el primer diez por ciento de tu ingreso a Dios. Cualquier cosa por encima de eso se le llama ofrenda.

No puedes dar nada en realidad, porque Él es el dueño de todo. Pero piensa sobre la ración que recibías cuando eras niño. Si ibas y comprabas un regalo de cumpleaños para tu mamá, en realidad estabas usando su dinero. ¿Eso significa que le gustará menos el regalo? ¡No! Porque a ella le importa más la intención y el amor detrás del regalo. Dios se siente de la misma manera cuando tu das.

La Biblia dice que donde esté nuestro tesoro, ahí estará nuestro corazón. Si lo que es más importante para ti, son las cosas de la tierra, entonces cada día te mueves más y más lejos de tu tesoro. Porque cada día que estás aquí en la tierra, tienes un día menos en la tierra. Te estás alejando más y más de las cosas que dejas detrás.

Pero si inviertes en los fondos de Dios y usas tu dinero para servir a los propósitos de Dios, entonces estarás almacenando tesoros en el cielo cada día. Estarás más cerca y más cerca de tu tesoro en lugar de alejarte más y más.

El Misionero Jim Elliot dijo una vez, “No es tonto dar lo que no puedes conservar para ganar aquello que no puedes perder”.

Haz esta oración en voz alta y en tu corazón hoy: “Querido Dios, perdóname por todo lo que he gastado en cosas que no permanecerán. Quiero comenzar a invertir en el cielo. Quiero invertir en fondos divinos. Quiero usar mi dinero en la forma que quieres que lo use. Hoy me comprometo a usar mi dinero para hacer crecer mi carácter y crecer en fuerza espiritual, sabiduría, y conocimiento y ser todo aquello que quieres que sea. Ayúdame a encontrar formas en las que pueda usar las cosas que me has dado para fortalecer las relaciones y mostrar amor a mis hermanos y hermanas en Cristo. Quiero invertir en la eternidad al usar mi dinero para servir a otros.

Quiero aprender a ser generoso. Quiero ser una bendición para otros. Y quiero usar mi dinero para acercar personas a ti. Quiero que las personas vayan al cielo debido a que di. Quiero extender el Evangelio a través de mis acciones de servicio. Y Padre, quiero demostrar dónde está mi tesoro al invertir en la eternidad a través de mis dones y ofrecértelos a ti. Quiero honrarte al darte la primera parte de todo mi ingreso. Quiero dejar la lujuria por el dinero para que tú, poderoso Dios, seas mi tesoro. Ayúdame a recordar que no soy un tonto por renunciar a lo que no puedo conservar para ganar lo que no puedo perder. Oro esto en el nombre de Jesús. Amén”

God’s Word Is the Only Stable Foundation

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24 (NIV)

The foundation of a house tells you how big the house can get. You can’t put a big house on a small or faulty foundation. It’ll collapse every time.

The same is true for your life. You can’t become all that God wants you to be on a faulty foundation. Here are some of the faulty foundations you may be tempted to build your life on:

Popular culture. Some people think they’ll simply do what every other person is doing. If it’s popular, that’s what they’ll do too. Yet what’s popular today won’t be popular tomorrow. Basing your life on popular culture is like building a house on a constantly moving foundation. It doesn’t work!

Tradition. Other people build their lives on what has always been done or whatever their parents did. That does make a little sense; tradition becomes tradition because it works. But no tradition lasts forever. It eventually wears out, becomes obsolete, and is invalid. In Mark 7 Jesus tells the Pharisees never to put tradition before truth. It’s a good reminder for all of us.

Reason. God gave us the ability to reason; we need to use it. But our reason isn’t infallible. Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (NIV). Even the smartest among us will falter sometimes. It’s to be expected. Only God can be trusted all the time.

Emotions. Some build their lives on a feeling. If it feels right, they do it. But feelings lie—they lie all the time! You lie to yourself more than anyone else. If you live by your feelings, you’ll spend your life manipulated by your moods.

If it doesn’t work to build your life on popular culture, tradition, reason, or your emotions, what should you build your life on?

God’s Word. 

Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24 NIV).

Popular culture changes, traditions grow stale, reason can be faulty, and emotions lie. Yet God’s Word—his truth—never changes. 

You may not always understand God’s Word. You may not always like it. It won’t always be politically correct. But it’s the only thing stable enough to build your life upon.

La Inversión en los Fondos de Dios Produce Dividendos Eternos

“Diles que usen su dinero para hacer el bien. Deberían ser ricos en buenas acciones, generosos con los que pasan necesidad y estar siempre dispuestos a compartir con otros. De esa manera, al hacer esto, acumularán su tesoro como un buen fundamento para el futuro, a fin de poder experimentar lo que es la vida verdadera”. 1 Timoteo 6:18-19 (NTV)

La Biblia dice en 1 Timoteo 6:18-19, “Diles que usen su dinero para hacer el bien. Deberían ser ricos en buenas acciones, generosos con los que pasan necesidad y estar siempre dispuestos a compartir con otros. De esa manera, al hacer esto, acumularán su tesoro como un buen fundamento para el futuro, a fin de poder experimentar lo que es la vida verdadera” (NTV).

Vas a disfrutar por siempre lo que inviertas en el cielo, e inviertes en el cielo cada vez que usas tu dinero para el bien.

Así que, ¿Cómo haces eso? Cualquier consejero financiero te dirá que no pongas todos tus huevos en la misma canasta. Pones tu dinero en diferentes fondos para un portafolio balanceado.

¿Sabías que Dios te ha dado diferentes “fondos” en los que puedes invertir para la eternidad? Vamos a mirar tres el día de hoy y mañana dos más. Estos fondos han sido probados. Ellos tienen registros. Están protegidos. Son sin riesgo, y entregan enormes dividendos.

El fondo de crecimiento de Dios. Este es cada vez que inviertes en algo que va a hacer crecer tu carácter. Proverbios 10:16 dice, “Las ganancias de los justos realzan sus vidas, pero la gente malvada derrocha su dinero en el pecado” (NTV).

Así que, ¿Cómo mejoras tu vida con tu dinero? Usándolo para crecer espiritual, intelectual y emocionalmente. Cuando usas tu dinero para desarrollar habilidades y ser maduro, estás invirtiendo en la eternidad.

El fondo mutuo de Dios. Este es cada vez que usas tu dinero para apoyar el compañerismo y relacionarte con otros creyentes. Romanos 12:13 dice, “Estén listos para ayudar a los hijos de Dios cuando pasen necesidad. Estén siempre dispuestos a brindar hospitalidad” (NTV).

¿Por qué Dios quiere que uses algo de tu dinero para mostrar amor a otros creyentes? Hay tres razones. Primero, prueba que estás en la familia de Dios. Segundo, crea unidad. Y tercero, es un testimonio a los no creyentes.

El fondo del servicio de Dios. Este es cuando inviertes en la eternidad usando tu dinero para servir a otros. Dios quiere que tomes algo de tu dinero y lo uses para ayudar a las personas que están en necesidad.

Proverbios 11:24 dice, “Quienes son generosos, reciben en abundancia; quienes ni sus deudas pagan, acaban en la miseria” (TLA). En otras palabras, entre más ayudes a otros, más te bendice Dios. ¿Por qué? Porque Dios es dador. Él es generoso, y él quiere que seas como Él. Haces esto al invertir en tu carácter, otros creyentes y las personas en necesidad.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cómo estás gastando dinero en cosas que van en contra de la edificación de tu carácter? ¿Qué habilidades quieres desarrollar qué crees que honrarían a Dios?¿Cuál es tu motivación para ser generoso? ¿Por qué quieres que los demás te consideren una persona generosa?¿Por qué es importante mostrar a los demás que perteneces a la familia de Dios por la forma en que cuidas de otros creyentes?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Six Trustworthy Principles for Interpreting the Bible

“No one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”

1 Corinthians 2:11 (NIV)

There are right ways and wrong ways to interpret Scripture. There are some methods for interpreting the Bible that will always give you the wrong interpretation. But there are others that are likely to lead you in the right direction.

Here are six principles of Bible interpretation that you can rely on:

You need faith and the Holy Spirit to interpret Scripture. The Bible doesn’t make sense to non-believers. It is God’s love letter to believers. The Bible is a spiritual book that must be understood by spiritual people. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:11, “No one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God” (NIV).

The Bible is its own best commentary. Scripture interprets Scripture. Practice this principle by getting a Bible with cross-references in the margin. By looking up cross-references, you’ll get a clearer picture of what God has said in all of his Word, not just that one context.  

Read the Old Testament with the New Testament in mind, and read the New Testament with the Old Testament in mind. The New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament. The Old Testament is revealed in the New Testament. 

Always interpret unclear passages in the light of clear passages. Look at the full counsel of God in Scripture to get a clear understanding when you find a passage that seems contradictory or confusing. For example, when you’re reading an obscure passage about baptism, let clear passages about salvation and baptism interpret the unclear one, not vice versa. 

Don’t form a doctrine based solely on a historical event. Take historical passages of the Bible for what they’re meant to be: good lessons. Don’t build your doctrine upon them. In Mark 1, Jesus got up before dawn to go somewhere and pray by himself, but that doesn’t mean you have to do the same. When you’re learning doctrine, look to doctrinal passages. Use narrative passages to learn lessons. 

Never interpret Scripture based on your own experiences. The point of Bible study is not to shape Scripture to agree with your subjective opinions or your experiences. Feelings lie. Emotions lie. Instead, discover God’s timeless truth, and let it shape your life. Study the Bible with an open heart, and invite God to conform you to his will. 

God doesn’t want to leave you in the dark when you study Scripture. Following these basic principles of Bible study can help you read the Word from God’s perspective.

La Bendición Financiera Requiere Una Planeación Cuidadosa

“Los planes bien pensados ​​y el arduo trabajo llevan a la prosperidad”. Proverbios 21:5 (NTV)

Si quieres ser fuerte financieramente, debes comenzar a anotar lo que gastas hasta saber a dónde va todo. Este es el principio de la contabilidad. ¡Tienes que hacer un seguimiento de tus finanzas!

Proverbios 21:5 dice: “Los planes bien pensados y el arduo trabajo llevan a la prosperidad “ (NTV). Si no tienes suficiente, no estás planeando cuidadosamente. No tienes que culpar a nadie sino a ti mismo.

Puedes decir: “¡Pero tuve esta emergencia!” Todos tenemos emergencias. Todo el mundo es despedido o tiene gastos inesperados. La diferencia entre las personas que logran sobrevivir y las que no lo hacen, es cómo planearon para esas emergencias. Si no las esperas, por supuesto que vas a estar devastado por ellas.

¿Alguna vez llegaste a fin de mes y te preguntaste: “¿A dónde se fue todo mi dinero?” Ignorar tu condición financiera más un crédito fácil equivale a un gran desastre. Has escuchado esa frase “El dinero habla”. No es así. Simplemente se aleja silenciosamente, y no te dice a dónde va. Por eso debes mantener buenos registros, para saber a dónde va tu dinero.

Aquí hay cuatro cosas que necesitas para mantener un buen registro de lo que posees, lo que debes, lo que ganas y hacia dónde vas. Hay varias maneras de hacer un presupuesto, y necesitas averiguar cuál es el mejor para ti. Necesitas conectarte, ingresar a tu banco, ir a la oficina de tu contador, ingresar tus libros, lo que sea necesario para seguir su rastro y entender que tu dinero trabaja para ti y no en tu contra.

Proverbios 23:5 dice: “Las riquezas desaparecen en un abrir y cerrar de ojos,

porque les saldrán alas y se irán volando como las águilas” (NTV). Esta es una imagen bastante descriptiva. Si no sabes a dónde va tu dinero, simplemente volará como un águila.

Afortunadamente, el gobierno de EE.UU. Tiene la amabilidad de recordarnos eso, poniendo un águila en cada billete de un dólar. Entonces, cada vez que veas ese billete, que sea un recordatorio de que se irá volando a menos que le digas a dónde ir.

Three Questions for Bible Application

“Does the LORD really want sacrifices and offerings? No! He doesn’t want your sacrifices. He wants you to obey him.”

1 Samuel 15:22 (CEV)

As you grow as a Christian, you have to start applying God’s Word to your life. Just reading the Bible isn’t enough. But if you haven’t spent much time trying to apply God’s Word to your life, you might be frustrated. How do you do it? 

Today I want to give you three questions you can ask of any passage that will help you apply the Bible to your life. Here are the three questions:

1.   What did this Scripture mean when it was written?
2.   What is the timeless truth behind what God is saying?
3.   How does it apply to me now?

I call these three questions the “application bridge.” We’re building a bridge between the world of the Bible and our world.

Let’s practice building this bridge by applying what Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 8 about eating food sacrificed to idols. First, read 1 Corinthians 8:1-13. Then, look at how the three application questions are answered below. 

What did this Scripture mean when it was written? There were people in the church of Corinth who knew that idols meant nothing and the food offered to them had no magic power. So this group would eat freely—but with no regard to what other people might think. Yet there were also new believers who were offended by that practice. Paul tells the mature believers not to allow their freedom in Christ to offend their brothers and sisters. 

What is the timeless truth behind what God is saying? Don’t use your freedom in Christ to offend others. Freedom must be used in love. 

How does it apply to me now? It may not be common practice to offer food to idols where you live. So does that mean this passage is irrelevant? Of course not! Look again at the timeless truth of this passage. Here’s how we apply it: We need to be sensitive to people around us, because that’s how we demonstrate love. Ask yourself, “Lord, is there anything I’m doing out of selfishness, arrogance, or insensitivity that could be causing a fellow believer to question their faith? Am I being puffed up by my own knowledge of freedom, or am I building up others in love?”

Each day as you study the Bible, apply these three questions to the passage you’re reading. Over time, you’ll see more and more that God will make it clear what he wants you to do with what you’ve learned from his Word.

La Promesa, El Propósito, Lugar y Día Para Diezmar

“Esta práctica [diezmar] te enseñará a temer siempre al Señor tu Dios”. Deuteronomio 14:23 (NTV)

Lo que sea que quieras que Dios bendiga, debes ponerlo a Él primero. Entonces, si quieres que Dios bendiga tus finanzas, debes ponerlo primero en tu dinero. Este es el principio del diezmo: le devuelves el primer 10 por ciento de tus ingresos a Dios.

Aquí hay cuatro versículos que explican la promesa, el propósito, el lugar y el día para el diezmo.

Primero, Proverbios 3:9-10 da la promesa sobre el diezmo: “Honra al Señor con tus riquezas y con lo mejor de todo lo que produces. Entonces él llenará tus graneros,

y tus tinajas se desbordarán de buen vino” (NTV). Dios dice que, si lo honras con la primera parte de tus ingresos, Él te bendecirá financieramente.

Kay y yo decidimos hace más de 40 años que si estamos endeudados con alguien, no nos endeudaremos con Dios. Primero se le paga a Dios, por encima de todo. Si gano 10 dólares, el primer dólar se le devuelve a Él. Si gano cien dólares, los primeros 10 dólares se le devuelven a Él. Todo viene de Dios en primer lugar, y quiero su bendición sobre el resto.

¿Por qué Dios nos dice que demos el diezmo? Deuteronomio 14:23 dice: “Esta práctica [diezmar] te enseñará a temer siempre al Señor tu Dios” (NTV). Dios no necesita tu dinero, pero Él quiere lo que representa: tu corazón. Él quiere que confíes en Él.

¿Dónde deberías diezmar? ¿Diezmo a la beneficencia? ¿O le das diezmos a tu hermano que ha estado sin trabajo durante tres años? No. Eso es caridad. Diezmar es un acto de adoración. Va a Dios.

Malaquías 3:10 dice: “Traed todos los diezmos al alfolí y haya alimento en mi casa; y probadme ahora en esto, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, si no os abriré las ventanas de los cielos, y derramaré sobre vosotros bendición hasta que sobreabunde” (RVR60). El alfolí es el templo o el lugar donde adoras a Dios.

¿Cuándo se supone que debes diezmar? Lo haces el día que adoras. La Biblia dice en 1 Corintios 16:2, “Cada primer día de la semana cada uno de vosotros ponga aparte algo, según haya prosperado” (RVR60). Cuando le das a Dios el primer día de la semana, la primera parte de tu día y la primera parte de tu dinero, estás declarando: “Eres realmente el número uno en mi vida”.

Nota que el versículo dice “ponga aparte”. ¡Tienes que planear esto! Diezmar no debería ser algo impulsivo. Tienes que planearlo para que honres el plan y el propósito de Dios para el diezmo. Entonces puedes ver cómo Dios te bendice, te usa y honra Su promesa en tu vida.

Let the Bible Transform, Not Just Inform

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24 (NIV)

Did you know studying the Bible can be dangerous? In fact, the results of Bible study could be disastrous!

Sounds strange, I know. But God intended for us to apply the Bible to our lives—not just read it. So when you read God’s Word but don’t apply it, the foundation of your life may crumble. 

At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24 NIV). That wise man’s house stayed strong through the storm.  

But then Jesus spoke about someone else: “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand” (Matthew 7:26 NIV). You probably know how the story goes: The foolish person’s house collapses during the storm.

God has given you the Bible for transformation, not just information. When you apply it, you’re building a firm foundation for your life. 

Here are three more reasons it’s important that you apply God’s Word to your life:

1. Knowledge produces pride if you don’t apply truth to your life. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 8:1, “Knowledge puffs up while love builds up” (NIV). Christians can be the most cantankerous, evil, mean-spirited, critical, judgmental people the world has known—if we never take the extra step and apply the Bible to our lives. That’s because knowledge on its own produces pride. Instead, God wants you to apply that knowledge in love.

2. Knowledge requires action. James 1:22 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (NIV). What a person knows should be reflected in what that person does. You can’t grow spiritually just by taking notes on a Bible study. God expects you to follow his commands—they’re not optional!

3. Knowledge increases responsibility. The Bible says, “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it” (James 4:17 NLT). When you study the Bible, God will show you areas of your life that need to be changed. And once he shows you those areas, he’ll hold you responsible for what he’s shown you. A deeper knowledge of Scripture equals a greater responsibility to follow it.

As you study and apply God’s Word, you’ll be building a strong foundation that will keep you steady during life’s storms.

Talk It Over

What do you do with your sermon notes once you leave church or with your Bible study notes once your quiet time is finished? How can you use them to help you apply God’s Word to your life?
Think about your words and actions of the last hour. Do they reflect what God has been teaching you lately from his Word?
What has God called you to do through your study of his Word that you still need to follow through on?

Where will you spend eternity?

God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, pray this simple prayer: "Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."

Fuiste Creado Para Ser Productivo

“Recuerda al Señor tu Dios, porque es él quien te da el poder para producir esa riqueza” . Deuteronomio 8:18 (NVI)

La Biblia dice en Deuteronomio 8:18, “Recuerda al Señor tu Dios, porque es él quien te da el poder para producir esa riqueza” (NVI).

Cada economía, aún aquí en Norteamérica, tiene personas que dan riqueza y personas que toman riqueza. Hay productores de riqueza y usuarios de riquezas, contribuyentes y consumidores. La economía se desbarata cuando hay más consumidores que productores. Eso es lo que está pasando ahora mismo en Norteamérica.

Sin embargo, Dios nos creó para crear riqueza, para producir riqueza: nos diseñó para ser personas productivas. Dios quiere que seas productivo, y su plan para tu vida incluye creación de riqueza —no redistribución de riqueza.

Déjame explicarte la diferencia entre capitalismo, comunismo y cristianismo.

El capitalismo dice, “Lo que es mío, es mío, y voy a retenerlo”. El comunismo dice, “Lo que es tuyo es mío, y tengo el derecho de tomarlo”. A eso se le llama redistribución de la riqueza.

Pero el cristianismo dice, “Lo que es mío, realmente es de Dios, y estoy dispuesto a compartirlo”.

Dios quiere que proveamos beneficios, servicios, y protección a otros. Él quiere que creemos oportunidades para ayudar a otros.

Cuando alguien pone un impuesto para ayudar a los pobres, tu no recibes ningún crédito por ello. Pero cuando eres voluntariamente generoso y ayudas a otros, edifica tu carácter. Te ayuda a crecer. Transformarte en alguien más productivo y generoso te ayuda a ser más como Cristo.

¿De qué manera el trabajo que haces crea oportunidades para ayudar a otras personas?¿Te es más fácil ser generoso con tu dinero o con tu tiempo? ¿Por qué te parece que es así?¿Qué metas financieras se ha fijado tu familia? ¿Hacia dónde te diriges?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? A Simple Plan for Your Quiet Time

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”

Proverbs 21:5 (ESV)

Having a quiet time is like many other activities you might do in life, in at least one respect: To be successful, it helps to have a plan. The Bible says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5 ESV).

If you’ve never had a quiet time before, you may not have a good, simple plan for doing one. Simplicity is important with any plan you develop. If you make it complicated, you’re more likely to get off track. All you really need for an effective quiet time is a Bible and a notebook. 

So what does a daily quiet time look like?

Be quiet before the Lord. The Bible calls it “waiting on God.” You start by simply sitting down and being quiet. 

Pray briefly. Start off with prayer. Ask God to give you clarity and focus and discernment as you read his Word. 

Read a portion of Scripture slowly. This is where your conversation with God begins. He starts speaking to you through his Word, and then you speak back to him through prayer. Read the Bible slowly. Don’t try to read too quickly or too much. The more slowly you read Scripture, the more you’re forced to think about what you’re reading. 

Meditate on the Word. Spend some time chewing on what God is saying. Chew on the Word like cows chew on cud. Ponder and wrestle with it in your mind. There are a lot of great methods for meditating on the Word.

Write down what you discover. When God speaks to you through his Word, care enough about what he is saying to write it down. Recording your discoveries will help you remember what God has said. 

Pray again. Stay focused. Thank God for what he has shown you in his Word. Talk to God about what he has said to you. Tell him what you’re thinking about what he is saying. Talk to him about anything else that’s on your mind. 

There’s not just one way to have a quiet time. But start with a plan similar to this one, and you’ll soon find, as Proverbs 21 promises, that your diligent plans lead to a life of abundance!
