La Mejor Inversión Financiera que Puedas Hacer

“Diles que usen su dinero para hacer el bien. Deberían ser ricos en buenas acciones, generosos con los que pasan necesidad y estar siempre dispuestos a compartir con otros. De esa manera, al hacer esto, acumularán su tesoro como un buen fundamento para el futuro, a fin de poder experimentar lo que es la vida verdadera”. 1 Timoteo 6:18-19 (NTV)

La Palabra de Dios nos dice en Mateo 6:20-21 que guardemos tesoros en el cielo.

¿Cómo podemos hacer esto? En uno de sus enunciados más mal entendidos, Jesús dijo, “Por eso les digo que se valgan de las riquezas mundanas para ganar amigos, a fin de que cuando estas se acaben haya quienes los reciban a ustedes en las viviendas eternas” Lucas 16:9 (NVI).

Jesús no quiere decir que “compres” amigos con dinero. Lo que quiere decir es que debes usar el dinero que Dios te da para traer personas a Cristo. Ellos entonces serán tus amigos por la eternidad, ¡los amigos que te darán la bienvenida en el cielo! Es la mejor inversión financiera que harás.

Probablemente has escuchado la expresión “No puedes llevarlo contigo”, pero la Biblia dice que puedes enviarlo anticipadamente al invertirlo en el destino eterno de las personas: “Así tendrán un tesoro que, en el futuro, seguramente les permitirá disfrutar de la vida eterna” 1 Timoteo 6:19 (TLA).

¿En qué formas puedes invertir tu dinero en otras personas? ¿En qué formas puedes invertir tu dinero para traer personas a Jesús? Ora sobre esto, y verás quién o qué Dios te muestra. No importa que pequeño sea, haz una inversión en la eternidad esta semana.

Tus acciones afirmarán tu fe.

Choose the Right Place for Your Quiet Time

“Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.”

Luke 22:39 (NIV)

A quiet time with God doesn’t need to be complicated or elaborate. But taking care of a few details can help you be consistent and get the most out of your time with the Lord. One of those details is finding the right location for your quiet time.

The Bible indicates that Abraham had a regular place where he met with God: “Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD” (Genesis 19:27 NIV). 

Jesus had a custom of praying in the garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives. “Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him” (Luke 22:39 NIV).

You may not have a mountain or a garden where you can meet with God, but your place ought to be relatively secluded. This is a place where you can be alone, where it’s quiet, and where you will not be disturbed or interrupted. In today’s noisy world, this may take some ingenuity, but it is necessary. 

This should be a place where you can pray aloud without disturbing others. Make sure you have good lighting for reading. And choose a place where you are comfortable—but not too comfortable. In other words, your bed is not the right choice for a quiet time!

Wherever you decide to meet with the Lord, make it a special place for you and him. As the days go by, that place will come to mean a lot to you because of the wonderful times you have there with Jesus.

In fact, your place will become a sacred place, because it’s where you meet with the living God. Where you meet the Lord can be just as holy as the place where Abraham met God. You don’t have to be in a church building. People have quiet times in their cars parked in a quiet place, in an empty closet at home, in their backyard, and even in a baseball dugout. Each of these places has become sacred to them.

Find a quiet place close to you, and start making it sacred by spending time there with God today.

No Te Preocupes. ¡Confía en Dios!

“ Y este mismo Dios quien me cuida suplirá todo lo que necesiten, de las gloriosas riquezas que nos ha dado por medio de Cristo Jesús”. Filipenses 4:19 (NTV)

Podemos ser un héroe un día y un cero al día siguiente, un millonario un día y en la quiebra al siguiente. No importa cuánto ganemos, no importa cuánto ahorremos, las finanzas son inciertas.

Entonces nos preocupamos, pero ¿qué dice la Biblia acerca de preocuparse por el dinero?

No es razonable (Mateo 6:25). Tendrás miedos en la vida, pero hay cosas mejores de las que temer que la falta de dinero. Incluso si te declaras en quiebra, esto podría empeorar. La vida es más que solo la acumulación de cosas. Preocúpate por lo que es realmente importante. No es natural (Mateo 6:26). Jesús nos recuerda que los animales y las plantas no se preocupan. Las aves no dicen: “Será mejor que construya un nido más grande para la jubilación”. Únicamente los seres humanos son los que no confían en que Dios les proveerá. Todos lo demás en la creación confían en Él. No es necesario (Mateo 6:30). Los temores financieros provienen de un malentendido acerca de Dios y de lo que prometió hacer por ti. Él asumió la responsabilidad de tus necesidades. Él dice: “Yo soy tu Padre celestial; eres mi hijo. Voy a ocuparme de tus necesidades”. Siempre nos metemos en problemas cuando dudamos del amor de Dios.

La preocupación es jugar a ser Dios. Es asumir la responsabilidad de algo que Dios dijo que Él se encargaría. Pablo nos recuerda en Filipenses 4:19, “Y este mismo Dios quien me cuida suplirá todo lo que necesiten, de las gloriosas riquezas que nos ha dado por medio de Cristo Jesús” (NTV).

Dios sabe lo que está pasando en tu vida, y en tu billetera. Él conoce todas tus necesidades, incluso antes de que le pidas. Él quiere ayudarte.

Make Your Quiet Time Your Best Time

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

Mark 1:35 (NIV)

To get to know God and grow as a Christian, you have to set aside specific time to spend with God. But when should that be? 

I have a simple answer for you: The best time is when you’re at your best! Give God the best part of your day—when you are the freshest and most alert. 

It might be tempting to put off your time with God until you have completed your to-do list for the day. But don’t try to serve God with your leftover time. He deserves your best.

Your best time may be different from someone else’s. Some people are freshest in the morning, while others perk up in the evening. For most of us, however, morning seems to be the best time. 

It was Jesus’ own practice to rise early to pray and meet with the Father: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35 NIV).

In the Bible, many godly men and women rose early to meet with God. Here are just a few of them. Look up the Scripture passages to learn more about what their early morning times with God were like.

Abraham: Genesis 19:27 Moses: Exodus 34:4 Job: Job 1:5 Hannah and Elkanah: 1 Samuel 1:19 Jacob: Genesis 28:18 David: Psalm 5:3; 57:7-8 

If you want to read even more about what the Bible says about early-morning times with God, look up Psalm 143:8, Isaiah 26:9, and Ezekiel 12:8.

If you’re already in the habit of having one daily quiet time with God, you might consider having two—one in the morning and one at night. Dawson Trotman, founder of the discipleship organization The Navigators, used to have code letters for his evening quiet time: HWLW, which stood for “His Word the Last Word.” He practiced that through the years as a way of ending the day with his thoughts fixed on the Lord. 

Whatever time you set, be consistent in it. Schedule it on your calendar—make an appointment with God as you would with anyone else. 

In other words, make a date with Jesus! No one likes to be stood up. So find the time when you are at your best, put it on your calendar, and keep it at all costs.

Cuatro Actitudes del Corazón para Dar

“Cada uno debe decidir en su corazón cuánto dar; y no den de mala gana ni bajo presión, porque Dios ama a la persona que da con alegría”. 2 Corintios 9:7 (NTV)

¿Cómo es la actitud que Dios quiere que tengas cuando das? Comienza con tu corazón. Dios está mucho más interesado en tu disposición a dar que en tu riqueza, porque está interesado en lo que está sucediendo en tu corazón cuando decides dar.

La Biblia dice en 2 Corintios 9:7, “Cada uno debe decidir en su corazón cuánto dar, y no den de mala gana bajo presión, porque Dios ama a la persona que da con alegría” (NTV). Este versículo habla sobre cuatro actitudes clave que debes tener cuando das.

Dar cuidadosamente. No des impulsivamente. El tipo de donación más espiritual es cuando lo piensas, lo oras y te decides por ello. ¿Por qué? Porque planificamos todo lo que es importante en nuestras vidas. Dios quiere que tu ofrenda sea importante y significativa en tu vida.Dar con entusiasmo. No solo digas: “¡Tengo que dar! Si no doy, Dios va a golpearme con un rayo o algo así”. Das porque sabes que Dios va a hacer algo grande en tu corazón cuando te conviertas en una persona generosa.Dar voluntariamente. Cada vez que una persona te presiona para dar, no des. Dios no lo va a bendecir de todos modos. Pero cada vez que te sientas desafiado por Dios para dar, será mejor que des.Dar alegremente. ¡Da con alegría! Una de las palabras griegas para ofrecer es la palabra “hilarante”. Dios quiere que disfrutes dándole a Él y a los demás.

A veces es un desafío estar alegre cuando Dios te desafía a dar. Cuando te sientas de esa manera, recuerda los beneficios de lo que Dios quiere hacer en tu corazón: esto crea comunidad. Derrota al materialismo. Fortalece tu fe. Es una inversión para la eternidad. Te bendice a cambio. Y te hace más como Dios.

How to Approach Your Quiet Time

“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

If you’ve been a Christian for long or visited a church a few times, you’ve probably heard about a “quiet time.” It’s a time that you set aside every day to spend time with God—and it’s essential if you want to grow as a Christian.

There are different ways you can go about having a quiet time, but the most important thing is that you start with the right attitude.

In God’s eyes, why you do something is far more important than what you do. It’s possible to do the right thing but with the wrong attitude! God told Samuel, “The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV).

When you come to meet with God in a quiet time, you should have these attitudes:

Expectancy. When you meet with God, it should be with eager anticipation, like you might have when you meet with a close friend. Expect that you’re going to have good fellowship and that you’ll receive a blessing from your time together. That was what David expected: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you” (Psalm 63:1 ESV).

Reverence. Don’t rush into God’s presence. Instead, prepare your heart by being still before him as you begin your time together. The prophet Habakkuk said, “The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him” (Habakkuk 2:20 NIV). Starting with quiet reverence helps clear away any thoughts that might be distracting you.

Alertness. Don’t start your time with God sleepy and exhausted. Instead, get wide-awake first. The best preparation for a morning quiet time begins the night before. Go to bed early so you’re rested and alert and ready to meet God in the morning. He deserves your full attention!

Willingness to obey. You come to a quiet time expecting to hear from God, and you should decide beforehand that you’re going to obey what he says. Jesus says, “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own” (John 7:17 NIV). Come to meet God having already chosen to do his will—no matter what.

Come to your quiet time with expectancy, reverence, alertness, and a willingness to obey. And get ready to see God work through your time together!

Talk It Over

Which do you usually spend more time thinking about—the “why” of your quiet times or the “what”?
How have you seen God work through your quiet times when you come prepared with the right attitudes?

The first step toward rest is to make peace with God by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You can start by praying this simple prayer:

“Dear God, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in Jesus, you’ll forgive me for everything I’ve ever done wrong, you’ll show me the purpose of my life, and you’ll accept me into your family and bring me to heaven one day to live with you for eternity.

“Jesus, I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I ask you to come into my life as my Lord. Today, I commit my life to you.

“I want to live the way you created me to live—at peace and rested—and to use the remainder of my life to serve you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Quédate Libre de Deuda

“No tengan deudas pendientes con nadie, a no ser la de amarse unos a otros ”. Romanos 13:8 (NVI)

Mi deseo para ti es que te fijes la meta de estar libre de deudas. Es posible, si eres disciplinado. Déjame decirte, si nunca has estado libre de deudas, no tienes idea de la libertad que experimentarás cuando ya no le debas nada a nadie.

Y esta es la razón por lo que es importante. Si Dios te dice que vayas y hagas algo ahora mismo, es posible que no puedas hacerlo porque estás en esa atadura económica.

La Biblia dice que no debemos retener el pago de nuestras deudas, que no debemos dejar ninguna deuda sin pagar. ¿Qué significa? Si solo estás pagando el mínimo en tu tarjeta de crédito, estás dejando una deuda sin pagar. La Biblia dice que no hagas eso. Dios no va a bendecir esa forma de actuar.

Necesitas organizar tus pagos. Quizás pienses que eso será difícil. Adivina qué. ¡Es difícil! Esa es la razón por la cual tantas personas están en deuda. Si fuera sencillo, todos serían ricos. El hecho es que la mayoría de las personas no tienen el carácter ni la disciplina para hacer lo que Dios dice que hay que hacer. Primero, da el 10 por ciento a Dios; segundo, ahorra el 10 por ciento; luego, haz un plan de pagos.

Dices, “Espera un minuto. ¿Me estás diciendo que ahorre antes de pagar mis deudas?” Eso es exactamente lo que te estoy diciendo —porque si esperas pagar todas tus deudas para comenzar a ahorrar y a diezmar, nunca lo harás.

Tal vez pienses que no puedes darte ese lujo, pero la verdad es que no puedes darte el lujo de hacer las cosas de otra manera que no sea a la manera de Dios.

Don’t Stop at Just Reading God’s Word

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24 (NIV)

There are many things you can do with God’s Word. You can receive it, read it, research it, remember it, and reflect on it. But if you fail to put into practice what you learn, all those things are useless. As James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (ESV).

It can be hard to be a doer of the Word, because Satan fights it so intensely. He doesn’t mind you going to Bible studies, as long as you don’t do anything with what you learn. 

But God’s Word doesn’t really become part of you until you obey it. Just reading or studying a truth doesn’t mean you’ve internalized it.

Actually, you can be so busy with Bible study—going to the next class or seminar or Bible conference—that you have no time to implement what you’ve learned. You forget one study on your way to the next one! 

Without implementation, all our Bible studies are worthless. Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24 NIV).

Jesus also pointed out that God’s blessing comes from obeying the truth, not just knowing it. He said, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13:17 NIV).

It’s so valuable to be part of a small Bible study discussion group. We always learn truths from others that we would never learn on our own. Other people will help you see insights you would miss.

But be sure to take the next step too. Let God’s family help you apply his truth in a practical way. 

The best way to become a doer of the Word is to always write out an action step after you read, study, and reflect on God’s Word. Develop the habit of writing down exactly what you intend to do. This action step should be personal (involving you), practical (something you can do), and provable (with a deadline). Every application will involve either your relationship to God, your relationship to others, or your personal character.

As you become a doer of God’s Word, you’ll be building your life on a foundation that cannot be shaken.

Contestar una Pregunta, Incrementa tus Ahorros

“Los sabios tienen riquezas y lujos, pero los necios gastan todo lo que consiguen”. Proverbios 21:20 (NTV)

El versículo de hoy nos muestra una prueba de inteligencia. Veamos qué tan inteligente eres. Las personas inteligentes ahorran para el futuro, pero las personas tontas gastan todo lo que reciben.

Si queremos la bendición de Dios sobre nuestras finanzas, debemos aprender a ahorrar e invertir para nuestro futuro. Necesitamos ahorrar no importa cuál sea el nivel de nuestros ingresos, porque Dios nos está enseñando a ser disciplinados y sabios con nuestro dinero. Nos está enseñando a vivir con menos de lo que ganamos cada mes para que intencionalmente podamos apartar algo para ahorrar.

Dios dice que eso es ser responsable.

Hay una pregunta que puedes hacerte que te ayudará a ahorrar más dinero. Es muy sencilla. Cuando estés a punto de comprar algo, pregúntate: “¿Realmente lo necesito?” Y se honesto contigo mismo.

Por ejemplo, ¿realmente necesito un auto nuevo? Bueno, sé que me gustaría. ¿Pero realmente lo necesito? ¿Realmente necesito esta mejora? Se que me gustaría, ¿pero realmente la necesito?

Un principio financiero fundamental: cuando gastas tu dinero, se fue. Pero cuando ahorras tu dinero, tu dinero trabaja para ti. Si vas a hacer las cosas a la manera de Dios, puedes salir de las deudas e invertir en tu futuro al ahorrar.

Durante esta semana, hazte esta pregunta, “¿Realmente lo necesito?”

Five Ways to Feed on God’s Word

“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly.”

Colossians 3:16 (NIV)

Just like you need physical food for physical strength, you need spiritual food for spiritual strength. The Bible describes itself as spiritual food—the water, milk, bread, and meat of your spiritual life. It’s everything you need for sustenance. 

If you were a construction contractor, you wouldn’t consider sending out a worker who hadn’t eaten anything in two weeks. If you were a commander in the Army, you wouldn’t send a person into battle who hadn’t eaten in a month. 

In the same way, you’re not going to have much success in winning the spiritual battles you face if you’re starving to death. To have the strength to accomplish the tasks before you, you need to feed yourself on the spiritual nourishment of God’s Word. 

Unlike eating physical food, whenever you feed on God’s Word, you’ll get even hungrier. The more you taste and see how good God is, the more you’ll want!

The Bible says in Colossians 3:16, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly” (NIV). Paul is telling us to let the Bible take up residence in our lives in a rich, profound, and life-giving way. 

So how can you feed yourself on the Word of God and allow the Bible to dwell richly in you?

Receive the Word with your ears. Commit to going to church and listening to God’s Word being preached. 

Read the Word with your eyes. Just having a Bible in your house is not going to bless your life. You have to have the Bible in your heart, and that starts with reading it. 

Research the Word with your hands and mouth. When studying the Word of God, keep a pencil in your hand. Write down what God teaches. Talk with other believers in a small-group setting about what you’re discovering. 

Reflect on the Word with your mind. Think about and chew on God’s Word. 

Remember the Word with your heart. You’ll rarely have a Bible with you when you need it. Commit God’s Word to memory.
