Fiction Fridays: From the Inside Out

I gazed at my face in the bathroom mirror. Where I used to have dimples when I smiled, now my cheeks were flatter, the skin a little looser. “Mary Jane Hart, you’ve always been on the svelte side,” my kooky aunt Delia would say, but as I placed my hands on my hips to span […]

Fiction Fridays: The Well

Sorry I’m a day late on this post. I spent most of yesterday making the switch to this new blog. What do you think? By the way, I have an announcement to make about these short stories. If you’ve been reading my Facebook author page, you may already know this, but these short stories have […]

Fiction Fridays: Jacob Mercer, Hometown Hercule Poirot

I wrote this short story on the date mentioned: 6-26-10. It was our 6th wedding anniversary, but that has nothing to do with what you’ll see here…

“Have you taken a lunch yet, Mercer?” Ben Garner looked at me over his horn-rimmed glasses, and with his mouth open like that I could see something orange stuck in his teeth.

“Yep, I’m about to get off, since I opened.” I smiled wide at him, hoping I could return the favor. Broccoli? Probably.

Ben didn’t seem to notice. He looked down at the schedule...

Fiction Fridays: A Creaking Door

Originally written in January, 2009
Sherri Eason hated nights like this, when gusts of wind rushed pell-mell in and out of the eaves of her Gothic Victorian. She never knew what the sounds of the storm could be covering up, and as one sitting alone on a chaise lounge in the middle of a velvet-lined living room, she was pretty sure she didn’t want to find out.Her only companion was a collection of old “Laugh-In” shows. Occasionally, a peal of thunder would follow an especially clever joke, but t...

Fiction Fridays: USPS Blue

This is a short story I wrote back in 2010. It’s been on my fiction blog ever since. (yes, I do know that present tense isn’t popular, but I like it every once in a while…)Enjoy!

German Rafferty takes his squeegee and rinses the residual window cleaner off with water from a spray bottle dangling from his belt. The breezes are gusting a little strongfor his taste, but this is the first clear day D.C. has had in more than a week. His contract is for once a month, but the rainwater stains tattle...

Fear Fridays: blog WHAT?!

Today is survey day, my awesome readers!

WHAT is your opinion?

I have been nervous for a while now, because my fears have nearly run out (haha, you don’t hear that very often). There have been several

fears I have shied away from writing about (terrorists, rapists, and death), and I don’t know how many other ones I feel free to focus on. There are scriptures about keeping our minds on things above. (Philippians 4:8, Romans 6:19)

So, with that introduction, I...

Fear Fridays: Insignificance

This morning I awakened to a very pleasant post on my Facebook wall. A friend had notified me, with congratulations, I’d won first place in the RWA Daphne du Maurier contest (inspirational category) for my manuscript, Raw Nerves.

What is the measure of a man?

I also saw on Twitter this morning (as I was writing this entry), that a sweet friend and amazing mentor Ronie Kendig also won first place in the RWA Faith, Hope & Love (Inspirational Reader’s Choice) contest for her book, Trinity.

Now, I a...
