A true superman in today's world! + GIVEAWAY!

First of all, sorry for not posting yesterday. Was sick in bed all day and seriously couldn't bring myself to stay awake long enough to write a blog post.

Alright, Superman . . . yes, he will be mentioned here today. But . . . well . . . I'm not talking about the man in tights and a cape.

Nope, not any of these guys ---->

I am in fact, talking about this guy!

Meet James A. Owen. This man is amazing for so many reasons. But first let me tell you a little bit about him. Correction, go here ---> https://www.facebook.com/CoppervaleStudio/info and read about him. Trust me, you won't be sorry. Give the page a like while you're there.
Alright, so why is he so amazing aside from the obvious reasons? Well . . . let's make a list.
He changed my life. Not even joking. I was there for his keynote address at LTUE 2012. And wowza, I learned so much. This guy is such an amazing person. Smart, funny, kind, and seriously, inspiring! He is generous. And I mean this in so many ways. Every single book he personally sales (in person, on his website) he draws in. Not even joking. It blew me away. Do you know how much time he takes to do this?? Some kids broke into his studio. What did he do? Oh ya know, gave them a little talking to and sent them on their way. I guarantee those kids are better off now than they were before. Oh, did I mention someone stole James's computers? And what did this guy do? He offered a reward, no questions asked. He is being beyond generous to the person(s) responsible for this horrible crime. I've never met a more forgiving, kinder human being. - You MUST read his post HERE! I ordered a book from James last September. It never came. And despite my constant hounding, the guy has been so kind to me about it. Seriously? I wasn't upset at all. I can't be annoyed with this wonderful guy for not getting me my book. Despite all that he has been through, he is still able to smile everyday. His book, Drawing out the Dragons, will have you bawling your eyes out. This book will change your life. If I had all the money in the world, the first thing I would do is purchase a copy of this book for every living man, woman, and child! In a world where far too often, far too many people are willing to lose friends over the silliest of things, James A. Owen, is a true, living, breathing superman. He may not be able to physically lift a mountain or see right through walls, but his powers are the ability to forgive, treat those around him as equals, to brighten someone's day with the simplest of acts. To touch hearts and lift spirits. To see what people need.
Thank you, James, for being one of my heroes!

IF vs WHEN

When I began writing, I told everyone willing to listen about it. And most often, the words I spoke were "If I get published . . ."

And a year later, I was still saying those words. It was a complete surprise to run into Shanna, one of the very woman who taught me one day at the store. And I was close to finishing a first draft. I told her delightfully about my progress. And I told her "If I get published . . . blah blah blah . .  " The look she gave me said far more than her words.

But her words have stuck with me ever since. "When. Not if." She gave me a whole spill on the difference. And that one day, I would get published. I couldn't think if. I had to show people I was serious. I had to believe to there was going to be a when.

It felt awkward telling people "When I get published . . . "  But I did, every day after that.

Well now is when.

Monday, August 5th 2013, I sent Only Half Alive to Tristi, my editor. My real editor. The woman who is going to help me perfect my book. But not only did I send the manuscript to a real editor, I sent it to Shanna. My soon to be publisher.

Believe in yourself.  If you don't, no one else will have motivation to either.

Only you can make your dreams come true.

Almost eight years ago I started writing. And my best friend at the time started with me. We went to our writers group together, we wrote together, we dreamed of being published authors together.

Once the class was over several months later I began telling people that I wrote books. I would tell people that one day I would be published. And I can't even keep count of how many peoples laughed, how many times I was told it would never happen.

And my friend told no one. In fact, the only time she mentioned her writing, was when she was with me and I would mention it first. I wanted the world to know that us, two 13 year old girls, were one day going to be published authors. The world refused to believe me.

And in fact, the world and I were both correct. Because to this day, only one of us will be published. Not because one of us isn't good enough. Not because we don't deserve it. But because only one of us believed enough to push through the fears and doubts.

She blamed me for ruining her chances at getting published. Not because I didn't believe in her. I did. Her writing is fantastic! She has a gift. But she felt that I ruined her chances at ever getting published because I advertised myself as an author. It didn't matter where I was or who I was talking to, I told everyone I met that I am a writer.

I got my name out there, I promised the world I would be published and now that is coming true. But my dear friend didn't see it that way. She thought it best that we keep it to ourselves, or that she be the one to advertise herself. And there was the biggest issue. We both could have advertised but she didn't see it that way.

And to this day, she blames me for ruining her career as an author. That breaks my heart more than anything. Mostly because it isn't true, more so because all I ever want to do is help authors succeed! But most of all, because she didn't see that I can't make her dreams come true. And I definitely can't stop them.

It was up to her, as it is to everyone to make their dreams come true!

I cannot control your dreams as you cannot control someone else's.

If you truly want to, no one can stop you. If you don't want to, no one can help you. ~ James A. Owen.

Live your dreams, follow your dreams, and don't ever let anyone else stop you.

Feudlings in Sight ~ Cover Reveal

Astraea Press is celebrating their first cover reveal; Wendy Knight's Fate on Fire novella, Feudlings in Sight! Available Thursday on Astraea Press, Amazon, and all other major ebook retailers!

Blurb:Boys of war suck at romance. Charity Delyle has lived in the shadow of her Prodigy cousin and his powerful Guard since the day she was born. And she doesn’t mind—really. Except that being in Hunter’s shadow means that he can’t see her. And she’d like that to change. Hunter has one purpose in life: Protect the Prodigy, or die trying. That means a social life, school, and even Charity come last until the war is over. For the most part, he’s okay with that—he can lose everything if he has to…except his seer. Starting at a new school should be much safer than living in a war-ravaged Carules headquarters. But this new school is different than the others. Friendships are forged and destinies are questioned, and Hunter’s decision could cost them all everything they’ve been hoping for.

  Excerpt:

“Okay, do you want to practice the ones we learned last week or just start new ones?” She had carefully color-coded the spell book with sticky tabs — spells they had mastered, spells they had practiced, spells that would come in handy one day — she was very organized. And if the Council ever found out she put sticky tabs in a book that was over three hundred years old, they would kill her completely dead. “Learn as much as you can, Shane. Gonna be hard to find a place to practice in the mountains of Utah, surrounded by Normals.” Hunter idly traced spells in the air, letting them fizzle and die without igniting them. “Well, alright.” Charity flipped to the red section — spells that would come in handy one day. She started at the top. “This one is called an Al-able.” The odd word rolled awkwardly off her tongue. “It’s like… it looks like it’s sort of a flat triangle of flames.” Hunter and Shane both walked over, studying the spell in the book before tracing it slowly into the air. The spell wouldn’t actually ignite until they lit it with the flames roiling through their blood, but they both wanted to make sure they could do it correctly so as not to explode them all to pieces or something. “No, no, Hunter. Less harsh lines. Softer.” Charity glanced down at the page and then up at Hunter’s disaster of an attempt. Sighing she laid the book on the metal next to her and pushed herself to her feet. She took Hunter’s hand, trying hard to ignore the way her own blood seemed to explode into flames. There’s no magic there, she told herself harshly. “Like this.” She led his hand through the spell until the air smoked and the image burned in front of them. She looked up, got caught in his gold eyes. He watched her, an unreadable look on his face. It made her heart stutter in her chest. Before he could say anything she dropped his hand. “Now try it on your own. I can’t do everything for you, you know.” Charity grinned playfully, dodging out of the way as he tried to push her over. She rescued the book from the twisted metal and perched, watching them expectantly. “Go. Do something.” Shane rolled his eyes. “Give the girl a book and she’s suddenly the boss.” He moved away several feet so he wouldn’t accidentally ignite her. He’d done it before, and Charity didn’t relish the idea of it happening again.

BIO: Wendy Knight was born and raised in Utah by a wonderful family who spoiled her rotten because she was the baby. Now she spends her time driving her husband crazy with her many eccentricities (no water after five, terror when faced with a live phone call, etcetera, etcetera). She also enjoys chasing her three adorable kids, playing tennis, watching football, reading, and hiking. Camping is also big: her family is slowly working toward a goal of seeing all the National Parks in the U.S. You can usually find her with at least one Pepsi nearby, wearing ridiculously high heels for whatever the occasion may be. And if everything works out just right, she will also be writing.

Dreams do come true! I know, because mine just did!

April 11th . . . just days after announcing I would be self-publishing my first book I got an e-mail from an old friend. A friend who happened to be one of the very women who got me started in writing. I thought perhaps she was going to congratulate me. Perhaps give me advice. Maybe even ask me how I got to the point I was at.

That's not what she was e-mailing me about at all. No, she had a much more life-altering question for me. She decided to start a publishing company. And she wanted me to be one of her first authors. It took me all of 10 minutes to form a reply and hit send. The answer? Was yes.

We discussed details, made arrangements, and left it at that. I set a date for my book to come out and our goal was to get the company up and running the month before Only Half Alive was scheduled to publish. I was to keep the information to myself until the company was ready to launch.

Jump forward to July 16th.
The book is almost finished and will be going to my editor on August 1st. I had just gotten the cover. Everything was going according to plan. Not a worry in the world. (Okay, that's a lie. I was stressed about editing). And then I check my e-mail.
The company won't be up in time. In fact, it will be at least another six months before it is up and running. And . . . Shanna want's to know if I will wait to publish. It was truly a battle I fought for hours. I didn't even reply until the next day.
I prayed, I thoughts of all the pros and cons of waiting. And even though I wasn't supposed to be telling anyone about the publishing company until it was ready, I knew I had to talk to someone. Stressed, worried, and now in tears, I got on Facebook and sent C Michelle Jeffieres a message. I needed help deciding what to do.
I lightly explained the situation, not giving out to much information, just wanting advice. She helped me make a list of pros and cons and we discussed each item on the list. And then she told me that I needed to choose. I set my laptop aside for a minute, tears pouring down my cheeks.
I said out loud, to myself, "I have to wait, don't I?" And in that moment, I knew. Goosebumps covered my arms, tears covered my cheeks, and the feeling that waiting was the answer filled my heart. There was no denying my prayers were being answered. So waiting I am.
InkDust Publications is the name. Publishing book for teens by teens is the game!
So, now you know why publication on Only Half Alive as well as Missing Royal has been pushed back six months. And in the meantime? I will continue writing and editing. In six months I should have a total of 6 novels completely ready for publication!
Thank you for your continued support of my writing career! It means so much to me. This has been my dream since I was 13. Since Shanna, C Michelle Jefferies, and Karen Hoover got me into writing.
Dreams do come true!
