My Characters Feel Real

From my WP blog ... http://nmsilber.wordpress.com/2013/07...

I’m not just an author, I’m also a mom and a home educator. Usually, I get to write every day, or at least every night, but sometimes there are just too many other obligations and I don’t get to write on a particular day. What I’ve discovered is that I miss my characters! When I get to sit down again with Gabrielle and Braden and the gang it feels great! I hear their voices distinctly (don’t worry — they’re not actually conversing with me) and I know each one their personalities. One thing that it really brought home for me was that my readers may be really miss them too so I owe it to them to get them another book as soon as I can do that and have it be a high quality, well-written story. I’m setting a goal to be able to release a new book each November and May. I hope that people will keep wanting to know what’s going on my characters’ world as much as I do.

Hope Nobody Calls the Cops

One hundred and forty-three people have already RSVP'd for the launch event for The Law of Attraction! This is going to be one hell of a party folks! Thanks to my amazing beta readers, the folks who have been following my page on FB and my Tweets, my street gang (now nine members strong!) and the good faith of romance readers willing to take a chance on unknown commodity I have high hopes that this will be one epic launch. So, if you haven't RSVP'd yet, what are waiting for?! Haven't you heard? Everybody's invited and this is one they'll be talking about at the water cooler for months. I might even dance with a lamp shade on my head. (Just sayin')Here's the link so go now and join! Bring friends! GO!!!!! https://www.facebook.com/events/47272...

They're back!

I'm only into the first couple of chapters of The Home Court Advantage, (Lawyers in Love Book 2 - the sequel to The Law of Attraction), and already Gabrielle is scheming (for a good cause of course) and Braden is being such a naughty boy:) My characters are so much fun to write. This is the best gig in the world!

A blog post ... from my blog

Learning the Ropes

When I decided that I wanted to become an author a year ago a friend, who was a well established indie author herself, took me under her wing and taught me quite a bit. I’ll always be grateful to her for being so patient and answering my myriad of questions. She was also the person who introduced me to my editor and my cover designer, both of whom I love and work very well with. While I had been an editor of a legal journal, and several of my nonfiction articles had been published, I knew virtually nothing about writing professionally. She was my first real teacher.

In law school professors are fond of saying that if you think that you understand it you don’t. Well, likewise, no matter how much you learn as an indie author there always seems to be more to learn. Recently, I learned that an author needs to launch on Tuesday because of the way that the New York Times figures book sales and that the “Big Five” publishing houses always launched on a Tuesday. Who knew? Certainly not me.

In any event, I learned two valuable lessons, that I needed to move my launch to a Tuesday and that the author services representative who offered me this tidbit for free was both more knowledgeable and more professional than anyone on the marketing end I had met to date. I suppose that I was also reminded of that old lesson from my law school days — if you think you understand it you don’t. There’s always more to learn. I’m thankful to the teachers I’ve met along the way, both those who have graciously taken the time to help and those who have been less helpful because they taught me something too.

The good news continues

As the beta readers continue to come in the news remains excellent. This last reader told me that she fell in love the book. The trailer is adorable and I plan to debut it at the cover reveal party next week. I can't really express the emotions I'm experiencing upon hearing how much much people are enjoying my writing. It's almost overwhelming but in such a good way.

Playing around with media

So, I've been playing around with media ...

My novel has a soundtrack:

Just for fun I made a cute Pinterest board of how I see my characters:

And I've also found a wonderfully talented woman named Miranda Stork who is designing a book trailer for me!

I'm starting to get a good feeling!

One of my beta readers finished the entire book in a day and started her feedback with this line:

"It's a great book. Humorous in the best way, sexy in the best way..."

The others who have checked in have told be they are enjoying it. I'm starting to get a good feeling!

The Betas are on it!

I sent my book out to my beta readers a few hours ago and one already wrote back to tell me that she's into it and loving it! I'm happy dancing all over my freaking house! I swear that if my kids start jumping on the bed later I'm going to jump with them.

A new cover and a celebration of the funny sexy

The Law of Attraction is getting a new look. While I love the adorable cover it has right now, I'm afraid that it doesn't convey one important point - this is an adult romance novel. It's kinda dirty people! I'm worried somebody's going to read it and have a heart attack (and not because they're so excited.)I'm having a cover reveal party on Facebook on Friday July 5th and I've decided to do my first ever giveaway. Since my own book is not out yet, I'm going to give away OTHER writer's books -- specifically, those writers who I personally think nailed the funny/sexy combination. These women are writing goddesses in my view and I want to be just like them when I grow up. It's also my personal tribute and "thank you" to them as a romance reader myself. So, check out the giveaway on my Facebook page which includes eBooks by the very talented Tara Sivec, Alice Clayton, Courtney Cole, R.L. Mathewson and Emma Chase. Here's the page: https://www.facebook.com/NMSilber
