A Plethora of Potatoes

Twice baked potatoes fresh from the oven.

We returned home from vacation with about 30 lbs of potatoes. In addition to the 10 lbs we already had.

I feel like I’ve been cooking potatoes for days.

Mashed potatoes— ate some, froze some. (The fr...

Obligatory Vacation Pics

We took a little vacation up on Manitoulin Island. We’ve been many times, but for Freya, this was her first family vacation and her first big car trip. For being only 10 months old, she did very well on the 6-hour ride. Mind, we timed the bulk of the drive to coincide with her daily nap.

As you can see from the photos, she knows just what to do with a vacation. I think she had a good time.

RUNNING DOWN A DREAM

This is a little side project I’ve been working on while taking breaks from work on the next Julia Ivory book, DAWNBREAKER.

This novella was written for an anthology project, but that project was cancelled, so I’m releasing it myself, and brainstorming future adventures for these characters. ...

Love Triangles - Love them or Hate them?

I heard that romance readers hate love triangles so I unpublished my book, Adrenaline Rush. I certainly didn’t want to offend romance readers; I wrote it entertain. I knew it was different. I wanted it to be different.

Then I heard about the enormously popular reverse harem sub-genre of romance in which the heroine gets no fewer than three boyfriends and doesn’t have to choose one in the end. #whychoose trends and connects readers to more books of this type. A little research into this sub-ge...

Things My Dog Destroyed

Oh hi. Remember me? I used to blog here a lot… That was a while ago. I don’t blame you if you don’t remember those days. I hardly remember them myself. But I would like to get back to blogging regularly again. So let’s dust this off and give it a go.

Last fall we got a new puppy.* Her name is Freya. She’s a Great Pyrenees.

Turned out pretty good

I hurt my foot. According to Dr. Google, I have capsulitis of the third toe. This is probably accurate because I’ve been walking a lot lately, so it stands to reason I’ve over-stretched my toes, and since I have long second and third toes, it seems likely I’ve over-stretched my long toes. It only hurts when I walk. I’ve iced it, downed some anti-inflammatories and stabilized my toes by wearing my Converse. I guess I’m off my feet for a while.

As you can see, my big dog thinks she’s a lap dog.

I ...

CASES

The first story I wrote about Julia Ivory was “Family Values,” now titled “The Shape of a Tiny Cross.” It was published by Commuterlit in 2011. Then came “Spiders in the Park,” which was also published by Commuterlit the following year.

Then, believe it or not, I wrote a full Julia Ivory novel. It apparently lacked a character arc. So I rewrote it. It lacked a plot. I plotted and wrote a completely new Julia Ivory novel. It didn't quite work for me. Neither did the next Julia novel.

I put Julia a...

Apple Pi

We like to celebrate Pi Day with pie, of course, but this year things were a little hectic, so I thought to add a strawberry-rhubarb pie to our weekly grocery order. The store didn’t have one when I went to check out, so I got a cherry pie instead. But one of us hates cherries. (It’s not me.) So we went to another store and found a small strawberry-rhubarb pie. We also made a homemade pizza pie. It was rectangle but still counts. (And covered in pi-napple! Ha!)

A few days later, I made a homemad...
