Tachos from Shellie’s Kitchen

Disclaimer: This is not a diet food and moderation is a thing. That said, it is TACHOS and if we weren’t married I think the beloved farmer would have proposed earlier.TACHOSI wouldn’t even call what I did here a recipe but I’ll give you the steps.Step 1: Add vegetable oil to your skillet and fry a single layer of tator tots. (I rarely and I mean very rarely fry anything anymore, but it’s necessary here. Baking those tots won’t deliver the same flavor.) Remove fried tots, drain used...

Laughter, Road Trips, and a Podcast Tutorial for our Times

Happy November to you! I’m smiling as I type those words because the season of gratitude is upon us and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m counting my blessings and naming them one by one. High on my list is the good medicine recommended to us in Proverbs 17:22 — LAUGHTER! As you’ve probably heard me say once or ten hundred times if you’ve been a part of this community, life can be hard when it’s good but it’s always better when you’re laughing.

If you’re reading these words on your podcast ...

How to Change the World

Hey friend,

The speaking season continues to roll. I’m fresh off of a trip to Hatch, New Mexico and I may have left a piece of my heart with those fine people. It was a travel experience for the books, including a 2.5 hour tarmac wait, last minute gate changes and terminal runs, cancellations, and — wait for it– one flight where the pilot said, and I’m quoting, “We’ll be a bit delayed, folks. There are coyotes on the runway and Wildlife and Fisheries are trying to capture and relocate them.” I ...

I am my people! And some inspiration to boot!

Surprise! It’s me! I know. Back in May I told you I was taking a hiatus and I’d be back in September. Missed that by about five weeks, didn’t I? All I can tell you is that September was a total blur around here. The beloved farmer has been trying to harvest (amidst ongoing weather challenges) and I’ve been on the road every weekend of September sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. (For the record, we’d like to unsubscribe from the Hurricane Channel. Yes, and thank you!)

My speaking season is s...

Let me help you find your footing in this shaky world!

Ken Ken the Baby Friend’s expression has a lot to do with Honey, the all-important stuffy she’s clutching by the throat. The stuffy who was temporarily lost before he was found and led everyone to breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Honey won’t always be able to provide the security Kennedy will need. We know this. You do too. We all know she’ll face days that require more peace and comfort than Honey can offer. We’re living them, aren’t we?

I’m about to get really personal. I hope you’ll stay...

The Final Not So Final Chapter of Sierra’s Story

We’re here! The final episode of Sierra’s Story! Unless it isn’t…I know. I know. That sounds cryptic.

Here’s the deal. My intention all along was to leave the Gray family here. However, not only have I been enjoying sharing this story with you over the summer, but many of you are literally threatening me if I don’t do another season with them. If I didn’t know you people better I might go into hiding. You want to know how Elaine and Jim worked through their marriage problems all those years ago...

Chapter 15 of Sierra’s Story and a Video Lesson with Shellie

Happy Thursday afternoon to you! Here in northeast Louisiana we’re enjoying an uncharacteristic break in the stifling temps and humidity. It’s much appreciated, too!  Although it occurs to me that this revelation will not help to explain my appearance in the accompanying video. Oh, well, I had something on my heart I wanted to say to y’all face to face, or at least as close to it as we can get. I taped it last night while we were feeding livestock. By the way, I’d love for you to subscribe to my...

Deep Diving with the Apostle John

I’ve been in a deep dive with the Apostle John this summer. I’ve explored his gospel start to finish and I need to level with you: John has nothing to say about deconstructed faith.

John doesn’t speak to the idea of anyone using human understanding to take their faith apart and build it back into something more comfortable because broken church people have disillusioned them.

John has everything to say about an ever growing faith, and the real life challenge of continuing to believe.

The Apostle...

Chapter Fourteen of Sierra’s Story and a Mexican Chicken Remake

I had the folks up for lunch today, also known as Papa and The Queen of Us All.  I wanted to see them before the beloved farmer and I pushed off in the morning for a little anniversary get-a-way. This sweet hunk of hard-working man has been my life-long love for 40 years come August 1st, and I still can’t get enough time with him. Thank you, Jesus! You should not read those words and get the idea that life here is or has ever been perfect. We’ve made plenty of mistakes and we’ve seen our share o...

Looking for Home

I pulled over to the shoulder and checked for cars before helping this fellow across the road earlier. I’m sure he was grateful, but he was in far too big a hurry to pause for a decent pic. I hope his journey continues safely.

Learned something new about box turtles recently. Did you know a box turtle will live it’s entire life within a one mile radius of where it was hatched? If you remove it and release it elsewhere, the turtle will spend its entire life trying to get home. Think about ...
