Sierra’s Story – Chapter Six – And a chat with Shellie

In Chapter Six of Sierra’s Story we learn more about Charles Carpenter and the threat he poses to Sonny and Sierra’s fractured relationship. Will he crack their world wide open or will Sierra skirt the danger and steer them to safety? And then there are the twins, Luke and Lollie. Their drama may be a result of your average teenage angst. But what if there’s more to it?

Chapter Five of Sierra’s Story — and a chat from Shellie’s porch

Basic Basil Pesto

If anyone enjoyed this rainy Spring, it was my herb garden. I have basil to spare. I recently told the folks on my Instagram and Facebooks walls that the abundance was stumping me and I could use some new recipes featuring basil. Wow. I’m still trying to gather all of the amazing suggestions. I hope to compile it soon and I’ll share when I do. For now, I’ll walk you through my basic basil pesto here. You’ll find a version of this recipe all over the web with only slight variations so I can’t rea...

Chapter Four of Sierra’s Story — and thoughts from Shellie’s porch

In Chapter Four of Sierra’s Story we get a ring side seat to the turmoil eating at Lollie and we relive the tragedy of losing Brandon through Sierra’s eyes. I’m so enjoying your feedback on the Gray family! With permission, here’s a sample of such goodness that put a huge grin on my face.

Oh, Shellie! I was just, today, able to carve out enough time to listen to the three chapters of Sierra’s Story. Now, I feel as though I have been told to turn off the flashlight Mom can see lit under the shee...

Sierra’s Story Download Page

We recently wrapped up a series of conversations on The Story Table about God’s ongoing invitations to come and keep coming. I hope you’ve enjoyed them. So, what’s next? Well, I’m taking a break from our story table conversations over the summer and resuming in the Fall. In the meantime, we’re going to do something a little different because, well, because I’m a little different.

I’m going to tell you a story. It’s a tale that fell out of me some time ago, and I’ve wondered off and on about what...

Sierra’s Story – Chapter Two

In Chapter Two of Sierra’s Story we meet her immediate family. There’s Sonny, Sierra’s husband who has the dust of their farm flowing in his blood, and their teenage twins, Luke and Lollie. They’re growing up and trying to outrun a shared tragedy in their own ways. We also learn about the missing Brandon. Who is he? Is his absence tied to all that’s going wrong in this family, and can it ever be right again?

The Gospel Isn’t Grey

A loving warning. Beware the fuzzy, feel good God-speak that doesn’t center on Jesus, our Blessed Hope.

Sweet sounding religious talk that doesn’t present Jesus as the Door is puff smoke and human mirrors. All the poetic words, flowery speech, and literary prowess in the world will never be able to save a soul.

To teach, write, or speak of finding peace “with yourself” and God without owning Jesus as the Way is to reject G...
