Where We Stand

Hello friend, I hope this finds you well. I realize I haven’t written in a while, which will make tonight’s letter seem unusual as it is of a more serious note than I normally send, but I’ve got the state of the world on my heart and I wanted to reach out to this community to discuss where we are, as I see it. No doubt, my passion about this subject is related to the fact that I’m currently writing on my next book project. It’s a Bible Study from the gospel of John on how to live fearlessly an...

News Among Friends

Hello friend, I’m excited to share some good news with you. My Hungry is a Mighty Fine Sauce storytelling cookbook is back on the market with a fresh new look. I’m looking forward to being able to share it with you. It’s full of the same down home good cooking, inspirational devotionals, and storytelling found in the first edition, showcased in an updated design. And this time, you can get it hardcover or paperback!

A book of any genre never finds its way into the hands of a reader without first...

Happiest of New Year greetings to my reader family!

The week between Christmas and New Year’s is one of my favorite stretches of time. It’s like the best pause ever, offering anticipation without expectation, space to plan without the pressure of a to-do list. It’s my custom to spend the week leaning in and listening to Jesus direct me concerning the projects stirring in my heart for the year ahead. I was unable to carve out as much “thinking” time as I had hoped for in this sweet week, but that’s okay, too. Jesus is ever speaking. His name is Th...

Apache Bread for New Year’s Eve!

Let the record show, this is not my recipe. We’ve made it for a hundred years around here, so I have zero idea who to credit here. Nor do I know why we call it Apache Bread. What matters is that the eating is stellar! We generally serve Apache Bread at some point during the holidays, and tonight’s the night! I’m pretty sure I’m not getting this out early enough for your New Year get togethers, but hey, you’ll gather again soon enough, right? Here, I’ll show you how to stir it up.

A Very Merry Christmas Blessing from Our House to Yours!

Christmas Greetings to you and yours!

I hope this finds you well, and I pray it finds you worshipping. It’s my ongoing experience that unless we are intentional about guarding our faith throughout the Advent season, the activity surrounding it can steal the present tense joy of the greatest gift of all– Immanuel, God with Us! Let’s be careful not to let it happen.

Our grown kids pulled off a great Christmas surprise this past weekend. They gifted us with a family portrait session with a profes...

Keeping Up with Jesus

Perhaps you’re familiar with the quote, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I am. I’ve heard it many times, and yet I was surprised recently to discover that the first person it was ever attributed to was President Theodore Roosevelt.  That was interesting trivia, at least to me. I suppose I thought the words were spoken by a preacher, or maybe a motivational speaker. And yet, regardless of origin, it’s a truth that bears repeating, and so it has. Again. And again.

It’s because we all know it to ...

A Happy Thanksgiving with Mama’s Chicken and Dressing (and some Publishing News!)

Happy Thanksgiving, friend!

Before I type another single word of my own, let’s allow the Word of God to speak. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in every thing give thanks! For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thess. 5: 16-18. Amen? Amen! May we all remember that there is always, but always, something to be thankful for!

That said, I came to my desk to add Mama’s Chicken and Dressing recipe to the website because some sweet souls on social media needed more de...

Tachos from Shellie’s Kitchen and Good News from the Launch

Hello, my friend! I’m officially off the road until 2022. Whoo hoo! I love what I’m called to do and I’ll give it my best until Jesus calls me home, or He comes to get us– whichever comes first. That said, it feels good to be HOME! (I’m now scheduling for Spring and Fall 2022, message me if you want to start a conversation about my coming to your place to serve.) Once I got unpacked I just had to cook something fantastic to thank the beloved farmer for supporting me throughout the long travel se...
