Things will go back to normal, they’ll settle, we will all...

Things will go back to normal, they’ll settle, we will all remember what it is to move again. We will step back from this with bonds strengthened to those we love, with new appreciation, with a hesitancy to continue living how we did knowing the damage it caused to this beautiful place. We will crave less but treasure more, we will appreciate everything with a fierceness hitherto unmatched. We will love, we will drip with compassion and tenderness, we will stare out with eyes aflame, backlit with the hope that kept us warm. We will, you’ll see.

Are you morning, are you light,
are you the shine of hope,
are you the promise?

Am I the night, the deep quiet
between the stars, am I
forlorn, melancholy and
memory as it falls apart,
am I the fragments?  

I am the table side
of the coin you’ve been,
the earth buried root
to the branches of you,
where you shine
I absorb,
I offer less heat,
I know this,

but you will love
my gravity.
