Love, to me, is not in the complete and total understanding of it by the one we love, no, it’s the attempt along the way. It’s the choice each day to wake and to try, to give our all in the explanation of our emotional connection, and the gentle realization that they’ll never truly know, for what’s our is ours alone, and what’s theirs, stays.
.
She won’t understand
but I will try anyway.
Love is the attempt.

I’m here to say, be gentle with yourself as you ache for something different. There is no shame in missing the life you lead, no guilt in wanting to live it again. We worked hard for what we saw, all of us, and we deserve to see it again.
.
I ask you now, what will it feel like? What will you experience? What, of all things, are you most excited for?
.
One day we’ll be off,
slowly floating like bubbles
to some other place.

Often in life, things change, people change, we change, and a rearranging takes place. Sometimes people come, sometimes they go. The key, always, is to wish those that go well, to allow yourself the grace to give them loving kindness when they depart. We can carry grudges, or we can set it all down, and walk forward light. We choose.
.
I will wish you well,
hope for a life of passion
and simple pleasure.

My newsletter today is one of my favorites I have ever written. Maybe you’ll sign up after reading it here. Link is in the bio.
.
Once I rose at midday, saw high sun and the shadows small. Fell into sheets and rolled in them, twisted back and forth, closed the eyes that opened, then closed them more. Once I slept half a day away, dreamed instead of lived, lost myself in slumber and fantasy.
.
Now I wake early, rise with the sun and birdsong, now I follow morning flights into morning woods, see breath rise as they sing, see mine off to chase it. Now I fill the day with eyes open and muscles tired and motion, now I fall into sheets each night worn and ready for the stillness, now I wake with wingbeats and flight.
.
Strange how we shift, how we squeeze more minutes out of hours as we age, strange how we notice their value as we understand them measured out, though they always were. Life is fleeting, death knocks constantly in volume that only grows louder the nearer we walk to the door. In the footsteps between us and the knob that looms, life, and what we make of it. In the spaces between tick and tock on our way there, I wish for more life, less dream, I wish for the songs of birds, and so I rise with them, and so I follow them.
.
Join me, find me in the forest, someday, find me by the sea.
.
Rise when the birds rise,
follow them as they fly off,
let them be our guides.

For those of you who do have someone that this day makes you...

For those of you who do have someone that this day makes you want to celebrate with, Do so. Drop any cynicism or shame you may feel for this silly day, and just embrace it in your own unique and personal way. Don’t say it with snark or side-eye, just use today as a way to add extra love into the love you’ve been working on. For those of you who do not have someone you wish to celebrate this day, use it to celebrate the love you have for yourself. Treat yourself to something that seems excess or superfluous, pamper yourself in some tiny way, offer words of encouragement to the mirror, hell, write yourself a love letter. Why not? Life is short, love is all, let it be.
.
And, if no one else says it today for some ridiculous reason (pandemics suck), I’ll say it first: I love you, so much.
.
Phases of the moon,
the many phases of you,
all control my tides.

The Never Was #36 for you this evening. Tiny sliver of something that says a lot about me. More truth in this than an hour interview. (at Link in Bio)
