My newsletter today is one of my favorites I have ever written. Maybe you’ll sign up after reading it here. Link is in the bio.
.
Once I rose at midday, saw high sun and the shadows small. Fell into sheets and rolled in them, twisted back and forth, closed the eyes that opened, then closed them more. Once I slept half a day away, dreamed instead of lived, lost myself in slumber and fantasy.
.
Now I wake early, rise with the sun and birdsong, now I follow morning flights into morning woods, see breath rise as they sing, see mine off to chase it. Now I fill the day with eyes open and muscles tired and motion, now I fall into sheets each night worn and ready for the stillness, now I wake with wingbeats and flight.
.
Strange how we shift, how we squeeze more minutes out of hours as we age, strange how we notice their value as we understand them measured out, though they always were. Life is fleeting, death knocks constantly in volume that only grows louder the nearer we walk to the door. In the footsteps between us and the knob that looms, life, and what we make of it. In the spaces between tick and tock on our way there, I wish for more life, less dream, I wish for the songs of birds, and so I rise with them, and so I follow them.
.
Join me, find me in the forest, someday, find me by the sea.
.
Rise when the birds rise,
follow them as they fly off,
let them be our guides.
