One layer to another to another. Light on light on shadow on light, a gradient up into the pitch and tar of space. Below it all, we stand quiet.

I am so heavy
with hope,
bloated and bogged down,
what a burden
to carry.
Buckling knees
under the weight
of wishing,
spine like a
question mark,
but belief
like a
period.

The tiny moment before a kiss, the magnetic space between lips pulling and pulling, gravity made understandable. You are the moon, I am the sea.

Saved yours
while you were saving
mine. Two way street,
this.
I was for you, at the very
same time you were for me,
salvation.
In any story,
there are shackles,
and there are keys,
one day it’ll be known
we were both
the keys,
and we always held
each others.

Endurance is what all we can shoulder before breaking, the weights we can carry while still walking forward. We’ve had quite the 18 months, my dear, one thing after another sent our way, a ladder of heartache and strife we had to keep climbing, and climb we did. Only with you could I have done this, only for you. Thank you for all the strength you loan me to endure what we do, thank you for leaning on me when you are tired. There is nothing too big for us, nothing too much. We constantly redefine survival. I love you, endless. (at Greyfriars Kirk)

I fought two eagles in a dream last night,
and I wonder what this means
of America.
Attacked, over and again
as they forced themselves into
my windows, stood with wings
wide, menacing and angry.
Choiceless, I grabbed them by the necks,
held them like chickens destined for
slaughter, threw them flapping
and shrieking and clawing for blood
from the deck I stood upon.
Time and again they returned,
found ways through the windows,
the doors, the cracks between
the floorboards, and I still do not know
what they wanted, why they
terrorized and came with such
ferocity. I wonder what this means
of America.
