Is it always desire you see
in these eyes, is it as obvious
as eye color, though mine changes,
with mood, with sorrow, with
the weather (when it storms
the green glows, like some
mating call to the lightning
it thinks may return)?
I call it a wildness, speak of it
the way squalls at sea
are spoken of, mythical and
epic and made of enough power
to sink ships, or send them
sailing at speeds unheard of
by those that know knots
and how to tie them.  
This desire, this clouding of eyes
like a cataract, like a fogginess
that comes when I look at you,
this wildness I hope destroys
the masts of me.

When I was a child, big storms would roll through and I would be glued to the windows, I would run outside. “When I see lightning, I be crazy” I would yell, and I still do. Years later I would be struck by lightning, following my Mom who was struck at 15, my Dad in his 40s. I am still obsessed, I can sense her coming, I can feel it in my skin. My goodness I love storms.
