Look out hackers, the Queen has a blood vendetta against you

The Queen has proposed a stern lifetime sentence for cyber-attackers within the British state, so don’t get any bright ideas from game sessions of Watch Dogs, Englanders. In a recent speech, the sovereign revealed a crime bill that hackers whose digital troublemaking results in “loss of life, serious illness or injury, or serious damage to national security” would punished to the full extent of the law, seeing how the death penalty is abolished in the country. The Queen also pushed for amendments that increase sentences for Robin Hood hacktivist types like LulzSec and Anonymous, who target large corporations for evenhandedness and laughs.

The whole thing sounds reasonable, but maybe a wee bit harsh.

Futility, thy name is Tomodachi Life

A game that plays the player, but for what?

New PBS Game/Show asks if Goat Simulator is a comedy revolution or a glitchy mess (Plus Tim Schafer!)

What’s the deal with Goat Simulator? (Hmm… it seems my awesome Seinfeld impression doesn’t come across very well in typing.) But think about it. This silly game about goats which has no point, aside from being funny, does some seriously inspired stuff with videogame slapstick.

Namely, there are no jokes. Yeah, you can tumble your goat head-over-hooves down a water slide, or ride a jet-pack into the pumps at a gas station. But the difference here is it casts the player in the role of the comedian, which is pretty different than the way laughs are typically done.

Also look out for a special guest appearance by game funny-man Tim Schafer to shed some words of wisdom on the subject.

One of the best boardgames ever just blew up Kickstarter

Wrangling and cajoling a group of friends to your small apartment’s kitchen will no longer be an impediment to playing Twilight Struggle, because the digital edition of that great Cold War card and dice game is already fully funded on Kickstarter. I know it’s a can of worms to say anything is the “best,” but there are many boardgamers of that mind about this one, as we can witness in the fact that it easily raised over 100 grand in, oh, a day.

I gather what people love about Twilight Struggle is the accessible but deep system of play, but also the prospect of playing through a half decade of political espionage between the Soviet Union and the US—including the Arab-Israeli conflict, Vietnam, and the Cuban Missile Crisis—at about 4 years per turn. The digital version is being handled by Playdek, who always does a bang-up job, and is due out on computers, mobiles, tablets, and PS4.

F*ck Videogames: The Videogame probably shouldn't be a videogame at all

Perhaps a puppet show? A diorama?

What does it mean for a videogame to be always on?

Always doesn’t mean forever.

New Vanishing of Ethan Carter trailer might rival anything you see at E3 next week

Seriously. Look at this game. It is just gorgeous. Well, except for that scene with the guy (Ethan, maybe?) getting clubbed over the head with a lead pipe. But aside from that, incredibly pretty.

We've written before about how the devs of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter are pioneering a graphical technique called Photogrammetry, which allows a small team of game makers to create breathtaking graphics that match and maybe even surpass that of big juggernaut studios. You can read more on that here.

The game’s due out in the third quarter of the year on PC, so until then, enjoy the scenery.

Chocolate drone is the most delicious invasion of your privacy yet

This camouflage drone made of melted Milka chocolate bars sure looks delicious. I’ve been craving chocolate all day. Death and invasion of my privacy from above—eh, not so much.

The most impressive part of this hovering aircraft is that it actually flies without melting into sweet liquid candy. “Chocolate and copters definitely don't sound like the best combination, you never know until you try!” says co-creator Mike C on the DIY Drones community forums, who teamed up with his girlfriend to infuse their respective hobbies. The trick is that they assembled the drone so that no chocolate would be touching the hot mechanical parts that make it dreadfully flutter through the air.

Watch and salivate below.
