The month that was: December 2019
What happened:
I went to New York City... and came back engaged! More on New York soon but we had the BEST week, which included Moulin Rouge on Broadway (incredible), seeing the Brooklyn Nets lose to the Charlotte Hornets, embracing the festive season by watching the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and taking in the Dyker Heights Christmas lights, plus sightseeing!
Before New York we headed to Wembley to see The Nightmare Before Christmas in Concert with Danny Elfman, Catherine...

Bulgaria: Seven Rila Lakes and Rila Monastery
Bulgaria's Seven Rila Lakes are quite something. Situated in the Rila Mountains, about a two-hour drive from Sofia, the lakes are definitely worth visiting. The Rila Monastery, on the other hand, I'm not so sure. I'll get to that later.

The month that was: November 2019
What happened:
We celebrated Olly's birthday with a visit to the Chapel Down Gin Works, followed by dinner at Ottolenghi's, headed to the Gherkin for drinks at Iris Bar (dreadful service), and had friends over for dinner (cooking from Ottolenghi's Simple, funnily enough).

Bulgaria: Hiking Vitosha Mountain
If you've read my first post about Sofia, you'll already know that we experienced some drama on our hike in Vitosha Mountain. Actually, that's unfair - the hike was perfectly fine - it was getting back to Sofia that was the problem... let me start at the beginning.

Bulgaria: A city break in Sofia
Wanting to go somewhere cheap and cheerful for our summer holiday this year, we decided upon Bulgaria and started our trip in Sofia, Bulgaria's capital city. Sofia is quite small, and you could easily visit the main sights in one day - we spent three days there, but used one of those days to visit the nearby Seven Rila Lakes and Rila Monastery.

The month that was: October 2019
What happened:
We made the most of the last month of our National Art Pass, which we used to visit Apsley House (super opulent) and the Charles Dickens Museum with Olly's mum (both free with the pass). The next weekend my family visited and we mostly just hung out as the weather was so miserable, but we brave the trampoline park with the niblings.

The month that was: August and September 2019
What happened:
Oomph, long overdue, so here's a quick round-up of what I got up to. In August, I visited Kensington Palace, Leighton House Museum (it's incredible inside), went to Van Gogh and Britain at the Tate Britain, and Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams at the V&A (such beautiful clothes).

The month that was: July 2019
What happened:
A busy month! I visited the Ambassador's Theatre to see The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Age 13 3/4 The Musical (super good fun, but I'd highly recommend being familiar with the books), headed to Queens for bowling and burgers with friends, and went to Zoo Nights with Olly (previous posts here and here - the weather was pretty miserable and rainy, and the Africa section was closed, so no giraffes, but I was glad to continue our tradition of going).
