Anything can happen on a Night Ride

This story is not new but it has always been one of my favorites. I thought I’d bring it back out in the light and give everyone who hasn’t read it a taste of it.

Welcome to Hellfire Ranch, where anything can happen

He’d been leaving a flower every day for the past month on Lily Ryan’s desk in her small office at Hellfire Ranch. Just one single lily. No name, no card. Any one of the cowboys working the ranch could have left it. Or could it be the man she’d lost her heart to? And now he’d left an invitation for a night of erotic adventure. Could she accept an offer of forbidden pleasure from a total stranger when her heart belongs to another? Could she take a chance that this Night Ride might lead to everything she desires? Or would she be stepping into a danger greater than she’s ever known?

Excerpt:nightride_w1206_680

“A-all right. I’ll stay.” She wet her lips. “I’ll give you the trust you ask for. And believe you when you say you mean me no harm.”

“Good,” he said in that barely audible voice. “You won’t be sorry.”

His hand moved over her hips, across her abdomen, then crept beneath the thin material of the dress to touch her cunt. One long finger traced her slit and teased at the entrance to her wet sheath. She was embarrassed to realize she was already seeping juices, cream that trickled onto her thighs and coated his fingers.

“I knew you’d be responsive. I’ve dreamed about touching you, about sliding my fingers inside your pussy, about fucking you in more ways than you can imagine.”

She began to tremble, as much from his touch as from his words. A thousand erotic images raced across the canvas of her mind, images of her and Ridge, nude, exploring a world of sensuality.

His warm fingers slipped from her slick sheath, and strong hands pulled her against him. She clutched at his biceps, feeling the corded muscles bunch and flex beneath her fingers. His swollen cock pressed against her through the denim fabric restraining it, and he gave a soft groan.

When his mouth touched hers, the kiss was beyond her expectations, heady like fine, aged cognac that reeled the senses. He sipped from her as if he were drinking a rare nectar. His lips were warm and firm, his tongue a live wire probing the seam of her mouth and pressing its way inside.

One hand captured her head, slanting it to accommodate him as he nipped her lips, tasted her, drew out her tongue to duel with his. They were both breathless when at last he lifted his head. He held her tight against him, his arms hard and strong.

“I have to see you,” he whispered as he bunched the soft material of her dress and pulled it upwards. “All of you.”

There’s a storm brewing! Get Thunderstruck! Hell Yeah! Kindle World

am_hellyeah_thunderstruck_400x600Launched yesterday was ten brand, new stories in Sable Hunter’s Hell Yeah! Kindle World series! My offering to this great series is THUNDERSTRUCK!

I was intrigued by Sable’s Louisiana setting in her Hell Yeah! world and so chose her Evermore plantation as setting for my story featuring Nash and Dr. Somer. Instead of doing a crossover into one of my series, I chose to leave Nash and Dr. Somer at Evermore to see what other trouble they might get into!

Here’s an overview of Thunderstruck:

Texas born, Nash Walker hasn’t met a challenge yet that his southern charm, and cowboy diligence couldn’t tackle. From graduating top of his class to creating a world-class team of historical restoration specialists, or the recent purchase of a neglected grand dame plantation deep in Louisiana Bayou country.

But when the tenacious and beautiful, Scottish-born parapsychologist, Dr. Somer Ingler crosses his path in the throes of investigating his new home for paranormal activity, she brings a whole host of challenges from her strange ghostly friends to the powerful whirlwind she creates inside of him.

Determined to resolve the plantations mysterious past, they find themselves mirroring the passion of past lovers, caught in a raging storm of desire and deceit, leaving them in the end…thunderstruck!

Nash and Dr. Somer, have no idea what fate has in store for the two of them!! Here’s a excerpt of how these two first meet…

He sighed and offered a congenial smile, along with the truth. “I have to confess, doc. I don’t believe in ghosts and all that mumbo-jumbo.” He crooked his fingers for emphasis. “I mean, yes, I know there are stories. But in my experience, the majority are just stories that you tell around a campfire on Halloween.”

“If you’re finished.” She handed him a mini-video camcorder. “Turn on the night vision button and you should be able to see everything quite clearly in the dark.”

“But, I just said…”

She tucked a small transistor-looking device in her pocket and held a miniature walkie-talkie in her hand. She jabbed a small flashlight in her mouth as she zipped up her hoodie.

Nash though his heart might stop all together at the sight of her perfect pink lips around the end of the flashlight.

“Mr. Walker. Please understand. Your inability, even your refusal to believe in the existence of the paranormal has no bearing whatsoever on whether it exists or not. In my world—my experience, it most certainly does exist.” She strode to the door and opened it. “Now, shall we go? All I ask is that you follow me and keep the camera running. Do you think you can manage that?”

Nash chuckled. Glasses and bossy. Could this get any better? He sure as hell hoped it would. He trotted down the steps after her, humming quietly the tune of the movie that brought ghost hunting back to life-so to speak. He was about to sing the chorus when she stopped suddenly and spun on her heel. He lifted the camera just in time that his body slammed into hers.

She didn’t budge an inch as she lifted on her toes, coming within inches of his face. “One more wise-crack, Mr. Walker and I may have to use my magic to put a spell on your dick.”

Silver Belles + Giveaway from Sarah M. Anderson!

Hi everyone! How was your Halloween? We dressed up as a family–The Kid was Harry Potter, my husband was Cedric Diggory (aka the only Hufflepuff with a name) and I was…DOLORES UMBRIDGE. Yes. I was the villain in a really tacky thrift store pink skirt set. It was epic.

img_1771

Dolores Umbridge is WATCHING YOU.

Okay! Last month’s winner was Jean Patton! Congratulations, Jean! And thanks for trying out the Rafflecopter! How did it work for everyone? Is it easier or harder than leaving comments?

Moving on to the books! I have a short novella called “The Christmas Pony” out in the anthology Silver Belles–a romantic collection of holiday stories featuring heroes and/or heroines over the age of 40. Here’s the blurbs for each of these fun stories:

Silver Belles, an over-40 anthology

Pre-order links: Amazon B&N

silver-belles-cover“The Christmas Pony” by Sarah M. Anderson:

What’s Alice supposed to do with a pony? The teacher only knows the animal was left on her porch right before Christmas. Then handsome Animal Control Officer Kirk Douglas shows up, asking questions that Alice prefers not to answer. But even the mystery surrounding the animal’s origins can’t stop the holiday spark that ignites between Alice and Kirk. Can their attraction survive ugly-sweater parties, well-meaning relatives and the Christmas pony?

“Midnight Clear” by Ros Clarke

A year ago, Alison had it all: a husband, a family, and a purpose in life. But now, following a painful divorce, everything’s changed. She doesn’t know where her life is going, and her faith is as wobbly as her lopsided Christmas tree.

When she’s bowled over by an enthusiastic Irish setter in the park, and the rather gorgeous older man on the end of his lead, she’s not expecting more than a quick coffee and the mud brushed off her coat. Certainly not a Christmas like she’s never had before, full of peace, joy, and maybe even love?

“Sparks” by Laura K. Curtis

Kate Bellows has no room for weakness if she’s going to pull JanCo Moving out of the hole its in and create a solid career for herself. Her carefully-laid plans, however, are no match for the fire that burns her house to the ground. With few options, she accepts an offer to spend Christmas with the volunteer firefighter who’d injured himself trying to save her house.

But there are two major problems with staying in Adam Miller’s spare room over the holidays. First, he works and JanCo and there’s a good chance she will have to fire him. Second, he’s entirely too attractive, and Kate Bellows has neither time nor taste for romance.

“The Longest Night” by Yasmine Galenorn

The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, and the past few years have been dark for Merilee Johansson. After an acerbic divorce, Merilee moved to Starwood, a small mountain town devoted to the arts. Here, she hopes to heal from the wounds life has left on her heart and her self-esteem. What she doesn’t expect is for Chris Hunter to enter her life, bringing the promise of love on the darkest night of the year.

“A Taste of Blessings” by Suleikha Snyder

For Tiya Chatterjee, coming home for one of her community’s most joyous celebrations, Durga Puja, means coming home to her mom’s  disapproval, nosy aunties…and a crush on a man who shouldn’t even be on her radar.

For divorced father-of-two Arnav Biswas, the three-day festival is a chance to keep his culture alive for his kids — not an opportunity to flirt with a beautiful woman who isn’t meant for him.

Fortunately, fate has other plans for Arnav and Tiya, who must learn that giving thanks to a powerful goddess means acknowledging the unstoppable power of love.

Now for an excerpt from “The Christmas Pony”! You guys know I save the very spiciest excerpts for you.

Kirk hadn’t lied—he lived less than two miles from the Moose Lodge, on the top floor of an apartment complex. Alice felt as light as a feather as she followed him up the stairs. All she could focus on was the man who was holding her hand while he unlocked his door.

She wanted him. How wonderful was that? She wanted him and he’d given every indication that he wanted her too. The heated kisses and his hard body didn’t leave much question about that.

God, to be wanted. What a gift it was. She loved the way he made her feel young and vibrant and alive. She loved being a mother and a grandmother, but was it too much to ask to also feel like a woman?

Kirk led her inside and then turned, kicking the door shut and pressing her back against it. A thrill went through her as he bracketed her head with his hands on either side of the door. “I’ve been wanting to do this since practically the first moment I saw you,” he whispered against her lips.

She laced her fingers through his hair. “Me too. God, you’re so handsome.” The kind of man who only got better with age.

The kiss started out hot and got hotter as their mouths met again and again. His coat hit the floor and hers followed. She got his ugly sweater off, but hers proved more of a challenge because of the battery pack, which snagged on her hair. By the time Kirk got it untangled, they were both laughing.

“God, Alice,” he groaned, the laughter dying in his throat as he looked at her silky chemise. “You make fifty look so damn good.” His hands stroked up her ribs and cupped her breasts.

She wanted to savor this moment—but as his thumbs circled her nipples, wanton desire pushed her past the point of slow. It’d been so long… “Bed?”

“Oh yeah—bed,” he agreed, backing her up without letting go of her breasts. “Old Rudolph doesn’t do you justice, Alice.”

“I thought you made a perfectly respectable elf—oh!” she gasped as he tweaked a nipple through the silk.

His fingers stilled against her nipple. “Good or bad?”

“Good,” she told him as she snagged the hem of his white t-shirt and tugged. “But you know what would be better?”

He had to relinquish his hold on her when she pulled the shirt over his head. “What?”

Was she imagining things, or did he sound just as excited as she felt? It made her bold. “Your mouth doing the same thing.”

“Done.” He swept her off her feet and laid her out on the bed. Her pants came off and then the silk top. She made a grab at his jeans but he pinned her wrists against the bed. “I’m in charge,” he growled, lowering himself until she could feel his weight pressing her into the bed.

She shuddered with delicious need—how wonderful to let someone else be in charge. She spent all of her time maintaining order in her classroom and making all the decisions about what to eat and where to go. To surrender to Kirk like this was every fantasy she’d ever had.

Then he paused. “Okay?”

“God, yes,” she replied, arching her hips up and wrapping her legs around his. “It’s been a little while, though.”

“Then we’ll make this count.”

She nearly cried with relief at that because she needed so much more than a climax. She needed to feel pretty and special and alive.

And then Kirk’s mouth was against her skin and she forgot everything but the feeling of his lips kissing down her chest, his fingers undoing her bra and revealing her breasts—which, thankfully, looked firm and perky at this angle. His mouth closed around her left nipple while his hand began to tease the right.

She bucked against him as he lavished attention on her body. “Kirk,” she moaned again and again as he teased and tormented her, the bulge in his jeans pressing insistently between her legs.

“Look at you,” he growled, rising up enough to pull her panties off. She lay bare before him, every part of her quivering with anticipation. “God, Alice, you’re so…”

“So?” She lifted her foot and nudged that bulge.

His eyes rolled back in his head. “Right,” he ground out. “Everything about you is just right.” Then he was off the bed, shucking his jeans and snagging a condom off of the side table. “Okay?”

Condoms—she hadn’t even thought about them. “Come here,” she told him, holding out her hands for his.

He covered his body with hers again, but instead of joining his body to hers, he began to move his mouth down her body, going lower and lower—past her breasts, past the long-faded stretch marks—until he was between her legs.

She hadn’t anticipated this! “Kirk—” she started to say but just then, his mouth found her sex and whatever protestations she’d had died on her tongue. “What…oh. Ohhh.”

“God, Alice, you taste so good,” he murmured against her, his tongue doing wicked things to her. “So beautiful,” he added and then sucked at her tender flesh.

Her hips came off the bed of their own accord as she grabbed at something—anything. Her hands found his hair and she held him to her, which made him growl in satisfaction which, in turn, drove her pleasure even higher. His mouth and teeth were everywhere and then—then. Oh heavens! He slid a finger inside of her and Alice surrendered to bliss.

As she floated back down to earth, she found herself thanking Mr. Rodriguez and Pele the Christmas Pony, because without them, she wouldn’t have been given the chance to experience sheer joy with Kirk Michael Douglas.

She began to laugh, which caused Kirk to lift his head, amusement warring with confusion. “Is that a good sign or not?”

“You wonderful man,” she sighed, tracing the line of his jaw. “I can’t remember the last time anyone did that for me.”

Without breaking eye contact, he kissed her inner thigh and then skimmed his teeth over the same spot. “What a crying shame,” he said in a low voice, a twinkle in his eyes. “Guess I’ll just have to make up for lost time.”

Whew!! Kirk and Alice pack a lot of heat into a holiday romance! Silver Belles will be available as an ebook and in print and should go live to buy within the next week–but in the meantime, click here to add it to your Goodreads shelves.

cowboys-kiss-graphic-3

She lost her drawl and traded her 501s for Roberto Cavalli, but she’s still a simple Carolina country girl at heart…

Cassidy Cantrell sacrificed her own dreams to become the wife of a world renowned heart surgeon. But eight years later, she knows it’s over. Divorced from the man of her mother’s dreams – Cass has to face up to the fact it’s time to move on. Looking to get away to a place where she can reclaim herself, she accepts an invitation to spend the holidays at a posh ski resort. He never could have imagined his soul mate walking into his life in stiletto heeled boots…

Jilted by his fiancée a couple years ago, Wyoming rancher Griffin Stone splits his time between a family ranch and managing investment properties in the ski resort town of Jackson. But something is missing. After placing his own desires on hold to look after his military brother’s family, Griff longs for happiness of his own. But a rich, city girl from Florida who sprains her ankle after her heel breaks? EXCERPT

The drive from St. John’s Medical Center to the condo complex at the base of Snow King Mountain took less than ten minutes. Cassidy gazed up at the rugged peaks, carpeted in white and casting a great shadow over Jackson Town Square. “Wow. It really is gorgeous here. And the sky is so much bluer and clearer than back home. It’s almost always hazy in the Smokies.”

“You’re gonna love it here, Cass,” Liz said, “Even with the sprained ankle.”

Liz dropped Cassidy and Mandy at the front of the building. The condo unit was on the second floor and the twenty some steps were a bitch to manage on crutches even with Mandy’s help. Throwing the crutches over the guardrail with a curse, Cassidy grabbed the banister with both hands and tried unsuccessfully to hop up the steps.

“Can I help you, ma’am?” The rumbling baritone struck her senses like warm brandy and sourwood honey. Cassidy turned her head to face a pair of riveting blue eyes shaded by a wool Stetson hat.

“Thanks for the offer,” she replied. “But I’ll manage.” She gingerly shifted her weight onto her right foot with a gasp of pain. The next thing she knew both her feet were off the ground as he swept her up into his arms. “What are you doing?” she protested.

“Carrying you,” he replied.

“I don’t need to be carried!”

“If Griff wants to play Sir Galahad,” Mandy chimed, “you should just let him.”

“So you know this guy?” Cassidy asked Mandy over his broad shoulder.

“Yeah.” Mandy grinned. “He takes care of the place for us.”

“Oh. You could have told me,” Cassidy said, feeling embarrassed.

“Which apartment are you staying in?” he asked.

“Number? I don’t know. Mandy?” she called over her shoulder. “Which one are we in?”

“Two twelve. She’s staying with us, Griff,” Mandy answered.

“This really isn’t necessary,” Cassidy protested. “I can manage on the crutches now.”

“What crutches? The ones you threw over the rail?”

“They’re awkward as hell,” Cassidy grumbled. “But you really can put me down now.”

“I could at that,” he answered and kept walking. “But I’m more inclined to take you inside.”

“Are you always so autocratic?” she asked.

The cowboy flashed a dimpled grin that made her pulse skip a beat. “Usually only with my six-year-old nephew.”

What I’m Grateful For This November by Renee Vincent

RV HeadshotI can’t believe it’s November already! Seriously, where has the year gone? I felt like it was just yesterday when the summer had begun, and I was taking a small hiatus to enjoy my time with family. Now it’s the beautiful fall season, and we’re rounding the corner toward the holidays.

Now that we’re only a few weeks from Thanksgiving, reality sets in and I start to purchase gifts for those I love so I can get a jump on my Christmas shopping. But it also inspires me to take a few moments and think about the many blessings in my life for which I’m so grateful.

First and foremost, I’m thankful to God who’s given me the gift of writing, as well as the gift to gab. I couldn’t imagine my life without the desire to share my love stories with the romance fans of the world. Without Him, none of this would have been possible.

resized_20161016_172644Secondly, I’m so appreciative of my supportive family who allows, and encourages me to write on a full-time basis. They are the light of my life, and the reason I try to do my very best with every adventure I jump into.

And thirdly, I’m eternally grateful to my readers and fans! Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today with so many completed books under my belt.

So, to let you know just how grateful I am, I’m giving away the three print books in my Mavericks of Meeteetse series, personally autographed to one lucky winner!

I’ll draw one lucky winner a week from today—giving you enough time to complete the above—and I’ll post the name in the comments section of this post on November 9, 2016. Best of luck to all and thank you again for being such amazing, loyal fans!

He hurried and dropped down on his knees beside her. “Sweetheart, are you okay?”

She didn’t answer him, just continued to stare.

“Oh shit!” He grabbed her up into his arms and easily carried her through the front door. He sat down with her in his lap on the rocker and cradled her close, her head tucked on his shoulder, her even breathing in his ear. He gently combed his fingers through her hair. “It’s okay, baby. You’re okay. The fire is out. You’re safe.” He kissed the top of her head, her forehead, her cheek, and quickly on the lips, tasting saltiness. He lifted her chin, seeing the moisture from tears. “Brooke, tell me what happened.”

Her bottom lip trembled and more tears fell. His heart jerked in realization that he couldn’t stay away from her if he tried. He was bound to her. She gave her head a jerky shake. “I-I can’t…”

“Yes, you can. You’re safe with me,” he whispered, massaging her neck to ease the tightness he felt there.

“The pan, it caught on fire…I don’t know…the flames. I tried to save her. I did.”

His gut twisted. They were no longer talking about the fire in the kitchen. “Tell me, baby.” He comforted her. “Tell me everything. I’m here.”

Watch for it on NOVEMBER 8th!

17+ ONLY!

“Go to hell, Declan!” She jumped up from the couch and her heels pounded the floor as she raced toward her exit. She’d been wrong to ever come. How could she have believed he’d consider helping her?

Before she reached the door, he was upon her, dragging her back against his wide, linebacker chest. She swore she could feel the heavy beating of his heart in her shoulders, but maybe it was a combination of both of theirs. He snaked a hand around her waist, flattened his palm against her stomach and pressed her against him. She could feel the lean, muscular solid line of his body, but the thick bulge pushing into her bottom made her womb spasm and her clit throb. She couldn’t fall victim to his passion again, but she wasn’t sure she could resist the temptation.

“You need taken care of, bella,” he whispered next to her ear. “The dark circles under your eyes tell me you don’t sleep, never had. You’re too skinny. Your hair, although smelling like Georgian peaches, needs cut. Your fingernails are broken and the polish chipped. You’re not asking for the money to grab a pedicure and a new wardrobe.” He tangled his fingers in her hair and pulled it back from her neck. His breath was warm against her skin and tingles shot through her body, nestling like beads of heat in her core. Oh, she could easily let her body go, ease back into him and allow human nature to take its natural progression. “Tell me, sweetheart. Why?”

Spitfire

Rem Bradley has loved Liv Carter for far too long. After his father’s sudden death, Rem comes home for good—ready to reclaim his family’s ranch and his woman. Problem is, the spitfire he finds brawling in the roughest bar in town is not the girl he left behind.

Liv recognizes trouble when she sees it, but she’d be a fool to resist Rem’s seductive demands. Starting in the barn where they’d left off years ago, they use every available body part, plus a toy or two, to bring each other maximum pleasure.

To make up for past mistakes, however, Rem is going to have to do a hell of a lot more than just satisfy her body—but that’s a damn good start.

Rekindled

It’s been a year since her husband’s passing, and running the ranch is taking its toll on Claire Hutchins. Independent as the day is long, she concedes the need for help. She wants a foreman, an employee to run the day-to-day who can handle a woman calling the shots. Someone who won’t give her any trouble.

Who shows up at her door, first in line for the job? Jeb Carter. Ex-high-school sweetheart. Longtime rodeo star. And the one man capable of making Claire’s lust burn out of control…of making her surrender completely.

Trouble has finally come calling…and he’s as irresistible as ever.

Inflamed

Stuck in a rut in every way possible, Keri decides her first step in a bid for change is moving back to the Texas home she left years ago. The second step? Spicing up her sex life with the crazy-hot cowboys she left behind. Too responsible (and smart) to touch her way back when, Max and Shaw filled Keri’s hottest teen dreams. Now she’s older, wiser—and more than ready to make up for lost time.

Max and Shaw were always fond of Keri, but the stunning woman strutting back into their lives is a far cry from the serious, studious teen they remember. She wants to take a walk on the racy side—with both of them—and the cowboys are only too happy to oblige. As they suspected, the sex is explosive, though Max and Shaw aren’t sure Keri can really handle everything they have to give.

Nor do they know if she can handle the sexy secret they’ve yet to divulge.

How about an excerpt from Rekindled?

“No. I told you, I need someone who’ll stick around, someone who understands how to run a ranch.”

“Claire, for chrissake, I grew up on a ranch. I may have rejected the lessons and the lifestyle for a while, but I’m not thick. I know how to run a ranch. And I meant what I said earlier, I’m staying. It’s time.”

She fought back the instinct to shiver at Jeb’s comments. She could read between the lines. “I’m not ready.”

“It’s been a year. I know you’re grieving your husband but dammit, I can’t risk you moving on without me. I made the mistake of giving up on us once. I won’t do it again.”

She closed her eyes, turned away. She couldn’t face him or the memories, the years spent wondering what if. “That was a long time ago. I’ve grown up, changed.”

“I’m banking on that.”

She faced him, eyes narrowed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“When we dated in high school, you were too young, too innocent to handle what I wanted. I know that. You’re a woman now. My woman.”

“No, I’m not.”

“You’ve been mine since the day you gave me your virginity. I let you slip away once. I’ve been a patient man. Stayed away these last ten years while you lived your life with Hutchins. I didn’t make waves, didn’t interfere.”

“I’m supposed to believe you traveled with the rodeo not because you loved every minute of it, but because you were avoiding me? Bullshit.”

“I love the rodeo. And you’re right, I wasn’t suffering riding the circuit, but by God, I suffered every time I came home. Every time I saw you with Hutchins, every time I thought of him sharing your bed at night.”

“Stop.” She put her hand up, anxious to wave away his words. “You and I broke up. We were never right together. You’ve got to—”

Jeb took a step closer and this time she did move back. “We were right. It’s the timing that was wrong. That’s not a problem now.”

“I can’t give you what you want.”

He grinned, running the back of his hand along her cheek. “You’re the only woman who can give me what I want. It’s always been you, Claire.”

He bent forward, his intention to kiss her as clear as the Texas sky. “Please don’t,” she whispered when his lips were a hairsbreadth away from her.

He paused for a moment, but didn’t retreat. “I’ve missed you.”

She closed her eyes and gave in. She’d missed him too. Terribly. She closed the miniscule inch left between them and offered her lips. The moment his touched hers, she was transported to the first time he’d kissed her—the night of the homecoming football game. She’d been sixteen and she remembered how excited she’d been when Jeb asked her to be his date for the dance the following night. He’d kissed her beside the bonfire at the end of the game.

Her first kiss, and it was every bit as beautiful as the one he was giving her now and she felt all those old feelings rekindled. His lips lightly grazed hers, reawakening feelings she thought had died with her husband. Soon his kiss became hungrier, hotter. She reached up, gripping his neck, making her own demands as she pulled him closer. He rasped his tongue against her lips and she opened her mouth, welcoming him in. His grip on her waist tightened and she sucked in a breath as his hands began moving upward, not stopping until he cupped her breasts.

The kiss continued as Jeb tweaked her nipples through her T-shirt. She spread her legs and began rubbing herself against his thigh. Her body was on fire. It had been so damn long since she’d felt the slightest spark of desire. She’d have to change her panties at the end of this interlude. She was too wet, too needy.

One of his hands left her breast, rising to grasp her ponytail. She shuddered when he pulled her head back, directing her with slight tugs on her hair, nipping her neck.

“It’s still there. Still the same,” he whispered against her skin. It had always been this way between them. One kiss and it was as if the entire world had gone up in flames. She struggled to pull away.

“No,” she whispered. He hesitated and she could sense him taking stock, trying to decide if she really meant her refusal. She battened down her hatches and pushed against his chest. “No.” Her voice was stronger this time. “This isn’t the time or place.” She glanced out into the yard, relieved none of the ranch hands had walked by and caught her making out with Jeb Carter in the doorway.

She was just so damn tired. It had weakened her resistance. Next time he tried to kiss her, she would be prepared, stronger, better able to fight him off.

“You’ve got dark circles under your eyes.” He studied her face and she knew he wasn’t discouraged by her pushing him away. If anything, giving in to his kisses had likely fueled his intentions to claim her…by any means necessary.

She shrugged. “It’s been a long month. Hell, a long year.”

He grasped her cheeks in his large palms but made no move to draw her closer. “You’re gonna hire me.”

He was relentless. She chuckled, then conceded. She needed help. “Maybe.”

The grin he offered in reply was cocky, smug, and she knew she’d lost this round. Jeb would get his way. “My duffel bag is in the car. Make room for my stuff in your closet.”

She narrowed her eyes. “You’ll stay in the foreman’s cabin and my bedroom door will be locked—every night.”

“Maybe.” He walked back to his car and she wondered what the hell she’d just unleashed.
