Isn’t that a shame? Seriously it is my pleasure today to continue my blog tour HERE and well as over on the author Elizabeth Ellen Carter’s blog. Let me tell you the ladies had great fun sending questions back and forth across the globe since Elizabeth lives in Australia and I live in Scotland.
We are not blogging today exactly no. The girls are. I think they might be the best of pen friends….. And we are swapping book extracts and book blurbs and covers. http://eecarter.com/index.php/a-trans-temporal-tea-party-for-two/
So mine are over with Elizabeth. Let me hand you over to my new heroine Lady Malice, lover of shoes and wrecking marriages and hopefully a certain man….
is here and there with the lovely Abigail, heroine of Elizabeth Ellen Carter’s book,
They are having tea. So I think we should just let them talk away about shoes, men and lunatic asylums….
Lady Malice.
My dear, how do you like your tea? Even if I personally prefer coffee, Shehanne saw to it that I like tea, out of fine bone china cups with a dash of lemon. And also, before we go further, may I ask where you got your shoes?
Lady Abigail
Without sugar, thank you my dear. Sweet is not really my cup of tea, if you don’t mind me saying so. And these shoes? They’re lovely aren’t they. Since I’ve befriended Sir Percy Blakeney, his wife has introduced me to the most marvellous cobbler – she’s French you know. Not the cobbler, Sir Percy’s wife. And your boots they’re very… one of a kind?
Lady Malice.
Oh indeed. I buy all my shoes at Madame Faro’s. I mean I did and works of art they were too but now living several hundred years ago what can one expect but revolting Viking shoes?
Now, I really do think the past is something we should all draw various veils over but before we go further, may I ask, given some of your misfortunes with the Prince Regent, and indeed, Sir James Mitchell, if you are needing a marriage wrecked at all?
Lady Abigail
First that Irish Radical poet Eamon Dauncey, then it was my friend Lady Jane and now you? I see my reputation proceeds me. I like men, they like me. I don’t wreck marriages, well, not deliberately, any way. What I need is a man who challenges me and who keep up with me, and I have to confess, there is something about that agent of Sir Percy’s, Daniel Ridgeway who has a habit of getting under my skin. And what about you, and that big Nordic god there? Sin… now that’s an interesting name…
Lady Malice.
Well, yes. Of course it is really short for Sinarr. My dear, I hope I said nothing wrong. May I assure you neither of are like our names….. Sort of not like our names. Ahem.
Lady Abigail.
I’m thinking of moving to Italy – Naples specifically. Lady Hamilton is a wonderful hostess, I’m given to believe. I understand that you’ve been abroad too. Would that have been Italy as well or further afield?
Lady Malice
Not exactly. No. As I explained to my not so dear husband, that was Scandinavia. Norway in fact since they treat giraffes better there. I must say though, Italy is a divine place I would not have minded visiting. But alas one’s marriage wrecking skills are no long required so I doubt if I will ever visit there now. I am led to believe that you are very skilled in certain departments.
Lady Abigail
I have to confess to a certain skill in picking locks. Very handy for opening a rival’s diary or rescuing lovers from French mental asylums.
Lady Malice
Asylums? Do you know the swine I married had the temerity to put me in one?
Lady Abigail
While we’re in a confessing mood, do you boast an unusual talent – apart from the obvious, of course!
Lady Malice.
Well, I suppose that time travelling might come into that category. Of course it is a family trait. Did you know my grandmother was apparently a NYT best selling author? I didn’t until I kissed my husband. Tell me, this Daniel…what is he like? How did he end up in a French mental asylum?
Lady Abigail
Ah yes, the straitjacket – I’ve had experience of those – only from the outside…
Daniel… Daniel is an unusual man and most times I don’t know what he’s thinking. That annoys me greatly. In my experience, men are so easy to read, their needs are so simple – food and sex… but Daniel, he’s different. I wish I knew what he was thinking, but I don’t. I digress. The straitjacket. Daniel was in one of those because of me – well indirectly. We were searching for a confederate of Daniel’s when we were ambushed by Colonel Alexis Roux from the France’s new secret division of the Committee for Public Safety. He has a nasty habit of locking up suspects in a mental asylum for ‘private’ questioning. With some help, I had to rescue him.
Lady Malice
Goodness, re food and sex and men’s needs, here was me of the opinion that most men think with one thing and that thing isn’t their….well,… let me not digress either, except to say that noticeably you rescued him. Let me not tell you about the scrapes I get Sin out of because of his big…mouth.
Lady Abigail
I’m not sure I know what a New York Times is. I only read the London Times. But I’m rather intrigued by time travelling. How did you discover that you had this most remarkable gift?
Lady Malice
Hmmmm. Well, do you know I kissed my husband finally? Yes, after five years. It was as simple as that. And then there I was in Saxon England in the middle of a Viking raid on a convent. As to how I got back to Regency London, well, that involved a little more but I am a great one for keeping things clean. Now I know you will be thinking…excuse me? Indeed Shehanne’s editor thought the very same. But once it was explained re this being a family trait and secret, no more was to be said, except we are looking at a series, like you with the Moonstone. Now I see all this rescuing stuff. I trust you and Daniel ARE an item? I would worry if you were not. Also, pray tell us that your author is going to write more Moonstone books.
Lady Abigail
Ah, that remains to be seen… my author Elizabeth is somewhat of a time traveller herself. At the moment she is in 3rd century AD Rome, has some plans to spend time with her handsome husband in Medieval England (perhaps she will see you and Sin there if you’re planning another jaunt).
I understand that Sir Percy has asked if Daniel and I would like to continue in his employ and we’ve not yet made up our minds, so you never know.
Lady Malice
Well, these authors are so selfish, aren’t they that us humble characters can but live in hope. More tea? Or would you, like me, prefer something stronger?
Excerpt FROM The Moonstone Conspiracy by Elizabeth Ellen Carter.
“I’m glad you remembered our appointment.”
Abigail recognised the droll voice and so did not even bother opening her eyes.
“It’s not yet midnight,” she replied and felt the couch shift as Daniel’s weight settled down into it.
“In our business, we take opportunities whenever they occur.”
Abigail opened her eyes and opened her fan to hide a yawn. He did not look fatigued. If one was to assign his expression right now, she would have described him as being studiously nonchalant.
“And what business are we in, Mr Ridgeway?”
“A very dangerous one.”
“I don’t recall signing up for a dangerous business,” she retorted, keeping her voice low to prevent anyone overhearing. “If my experience of your business over the past two years is any guide, stultifying boredom would be a better description.
“You can tell Aunt Druscilla that my obligation to her is complete. I’m going abroad at the end of this season.”
A slow feline grin spread across his face.
“Are you now?”
Fatigue fled and Abigail straightened in her seat, ready to rise to the challenge.
“Are you going to stop me?”
“I don’t particularly care what you do after this season,” he told her. “If you can’t give me what I want by the end of June, then you’re not half the woman Blakeney thinks you are.”
Excerpt 2
Daniel picked his moment carefully. He watched Sir Percy’s wife leave with another group soon after the announcement was made. And although he made no especial effort to hide, he nonetheless remained in the shadows. He pulled out a cigar and lit it on a nearby taper. As soon as he heard the footman call for Sir Percy’s carriage, he stepped forward into the carriage and waited for Blakeney to join him. “Send me to France, Percy,” he said as soon as the carriage jolted into motion. “I’m not going to do that,” Blakeney replied. “You can’t just leave Jonathan there!” “He signed on knowing the same risks as you.” “He has a wife and children!” “And you seem inordinately fond of them,” Sir Percy snapped back. “You saw the list you gave me tonight. A dozen good men and women dead because of the Jacobins. I’m not prepared to risk more. Not until we know what we’re up against.” “It could be too late!” “You took an oath when you joined the League, Ridgeway. One to command, all to obey. Bear that in mind.” Daniel leaned forward and rested his arms on his knees and exhaled long and sharp. He felt Percy slap him on the back. “Just wait a week until we know the lay of the land. I haven’t studied the documents you gave me and Parliament hasn’t even prepared a response to the National Committee’s declaration of war.” “A week is a long time, Percy,” Daniel warned. “So is eternity, dear chap. Don’t lose your head. As you well know, those Frenchies have a devilish way of parting you from it.”
Ellen Carter’s debut novel, Moonstone Obsession, was published in 2013 by Etopia Press. Earlier that year, the Regency adventure romance had been shortlisted in the Romance Writers of Australia Emerald Awards for Best Unpublished Manuscript. Set in England and France during the French Revolution, it was heralded as ‘edge-of-seat adventure and intrigue’ and ‘a rollercoaster of love, blackmail, ill-gotten gains, treason and trickery’ with Carter described as ‘a writer worth keeping an eye on’ with ‘a hint of classic suspense novelist Daphne du Maurier’.
Her second novel, Warrior’s Surrender, was published by Etopia the following year. Set in Northumbria in 1077, it sets the relationship between a displaced Saxon noblewoman and a Norman baron against the turbulent backdrop of England in the years following the Norman invasion of 1066. Reviewers found the novel ‘a fast moving and passionate read’ with ‘strong characters, an intriguing plot, and plenty of action… a sexy romance to be savoured’. Readers agreed, voting Warrior’s Surrender Favourite Historical Fiction in the 2015 Readers & Writers Down Under Readers Choice Awards.
Also in 2014, the short story Moonstone Promise, spinning off from Moonstone Obsession as part of Etopia’s Valentines Heat anthology, followed the fortunes of one of the supporting characters back home to 18th century Pittsburgh in a tale of ‘second chance romance’.
Warrior’s Surrender (now in print as well as eBook) was named Favourite Historical Fiction at the 2015 Readers & Writers Down Under Readers Choice Awards in March this year.
Carter moved up to 1802 for the light-hearted romantic short story Three Ships, part of the Christmas 2014 anthology A Season To Remember, and ventures briefly into contemporary romance for the first time with her Romance Writers of Australia annual Little Gems competition placegetter, The Tin Bear, publishing in August 2015.
And another Moonstone Obsession character, the sinful Lady Abigail Houghall, features in the full length novel Moonstone Conspiracy, coming from Etopia Press in 2015.
Carter is currently working on her fourth novel, set in ancient Rome and tentatively titled Dark Heart, which will bring together the elements for which she has become known in just a few years – in-depth historical detail woven through gripping adventure and captivating romance.
The author lives in Australia with her husband and two cats. A former newspaper journalist, she ran an award-winning PR agency for 12 years.

Nemesis -a darkly avenging angel and Catherine Cavendish
Okay dudes, now today we are going to be nice and welcome our lovely friend
Cat and I do not write the same genres but I adore both her books and her. She’s been a great support to me., a wonderful author friend.
We do indeed have books coming out at roughly the same time.
I’m going to be over on Cat’s lovely blog on Tuesday, talking about time travel, whether it’s ever happened or not, since my new heroine is a time traveller, but the link won’t be live till then…Tuesday that is…for all you time travellers out there.
http://www.catherinecavendish.com/2015/07/the-viking-and-courtesan-time-travel.html
it’s the first stop on a blog tour.
Today it is my pleasure to invite Cat here
with her amazing new book which is on my TBR pile and she’s going to blog about the Goddess of Vengeance and we are all going to listen nicely, not interrupting, not complaining. If you are good little hamstahs you will get to do something very special, which we will talk about later. Much, much later. In fact, this week some time. Now then…
Nemesis – Goddess of Vengeance – by Catherine Cavendish
My latest novella – Dark Avenging Angel – is, as its title suggests, concerned with revenge. In this case, revenge of the most demonic kind. We’ve all heard the old adage, “Be careful what you wish for…”
Jane learns the truth of this in graphic ways.
Avenging angels and demons abound in the traditions and folklore of people all over the world. From ancient Greek culture comes the queen of them all – the Goddess of Vengeance herself – Nemesis.
Nemesis ensured that retribution was made for sins committed. Evil deeds and undeserved good fortune were roundly punished.
Rather like my dark avenging angel, Nemesis took account. But Nemesis’s purpose in life was to maintain equilibrium. She measured out happiness and unhappiness. If she judged you to be experiencing too much happiness, you could expect Nemesis to put a stop to it, by inflicting loss or suffering on you. As a result of her actions, she was regarded as a punishing and avenging divinity, often portrayed as a winged goddess, carrying an apple-branch, rein, lash, sword or balance.
Nemesis was also particularly active in matters of the heart. The ancient story of Narcissus is just one example. Narcissus was an especially beautiful boy from the Greek town of Thespiae, who made a habit of breaking the hearts of girls and young men who had the misfortune to fall in love with him. Significant among these was the beautiful Echo, who was cursed by the goddess Hera to only be able to speak the last few words of what had been said immediately before. When Narcissus spurned her, she faded away, until only her haunting echo remained.
But the trouble really began when a youth called Ameinias became highly distraught after Narcissus cruelly spurned him. Not content with merely fading away, Ameinias killed himself before Narcissus’s door. As he died, he called on Nemesis to avenge his death. She heard his call and caused Narcissus to fall in love with his own image as he gazed into a pool. He tried to touch the image, but of course, he never could. Unable to tear himself away from the object of his devotion, Narcissus slowly pined away. Other versions have him killing himself in despair. In both cases, his demise led to the creation of the flower that bears his name – created out of his life blood by nymphs. As far as Nemesis was concerned, balance had been restored and Ameinias’s death avenged.
Over the many centuries, Nemesis has been portrayed in countless guises in literature, theatre and film. The legendary crime writer, Agatha Christie, couldn’t resist at least two references to her. She named one of her mysteries Nemesis and has a character in A Caribbean Mystery refer to sleuth, Miss Marple, as his nemesis. The film, Star Trek: Nemesis turned out to be aptly named since it was not the box office hit that had been expected and was the last instance of the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation appearing together on film. Maybe that franchise had been just a little too successful up until then, and an ancient Greek goddess decided it was time to redress the balance.
Now, to give you a taste of Dark Avenging Angel, here’s the blurb:
Don’t hurt Jane. You may live to regret it.
Bullied by her abusive father, Jane always felt different. Then the lonely child found a friend in a mysterious dark lady who offers her protection—a lady she calls her “angel”. But that protection carries a terrible price, one to be paid with the souls of those Jane chooses to suffer a hideous and eternal fate.
When Jane refuses to name another victim, the angel reveals her most terrifying side. Payment must be made in full—one way or the other.
And here’s a brief extract:
Something had woken me from a deep sleep, troubled by my recurring nightmare in which I was in a wood, being chased by some unimaginable horror. I never saw its face, assuming it even had one. But I knew if I didn’t find sanctuary, it would kill me. I had just made it into the strange little house that always appeared in the clearing, when my eyes opened and I gasped at the white, smiling face looking down at me.
That night, my angel seemed different somehow.
Oh, she looked the same. Same black cloak, but this time it shimmered and I wanted to touch it. I was sure it would feel soft as velvet under my fingers.
She put her finger to her lips and stroked my hair. Her touch was like a gentle breeze in summertime. My eyes wanted to close, but I forced them to stay open.
I knew I mustn’t speak out loud, but I could still whisper. “I wish I knew your name. Who are you? Please will you tell me?”
She continued to smile. Her lips moved, but the answering voice I heard was again in my head. Do not be afraid, child. It is not yet time, but soon you will have the power to avenge yourself on those who have done you harm. Look for me in the shadows and I will be there, taking account.
I understood nothing of what she said. But, from somewhere, a calm I had never felt before emerged and wrapped itself around me.
I blinked in the darkness as she faded from sight.
Then I closed my eyes and slept. I never had that nightmare again after that night. But what if I’d known what was ahead for me?
Some things are better off left in the dark.
You can find Dark Avenging Angel here:

3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge,
Okay…okay dudes, can I just remind you that you have done nothing but fight with Noelle Clark since she invited you to her blog last Christmas and said you were moaning, whining, interrupting wee gits?
Well, all right maybe not gits exactly. Hamsters then.
Also, I don’t remember getting to answer any of these blog award questions.
So, today I am going to do some shameless promotion. After spending a whole night’s worth of midnight oil proofing the Viking and the Courtesan it is now with Soul Mate Publishing’s formatter. And I’m going to accept the challenge given to me by Emmanuel Muema not lazy, just resting before he gets tired and addicted to Lil Wayne
And I’m going to do one quote over the next three days that kind of sum up the main characters.
Well, if you’re good, you can. But here is mine that I think kind of sums up my heroine, Lady Malice who runs a little marriage wrecking business, her goals, her motivation, her general impeccable, blot-free character.
But you had your turn at the start. Now.
I having linked to Emanuel’s site, given my quote for today, I’ll be back again tomorrow,
with another quote.
I now nominate 3 very lucky bloggers, to accept the 3 Day quote challenge and give their quote…..it can be on anything, tied in with anything …. and in turn nominate 3 very lucky bloggers to do the same.

Some gypsy love with Madelyn Hill
Dudes, can we please not fight? Or do we all want to live in the Bothy?
Suppose the moon is really made of cheese? Okay, today we are welcoming a fellow Soulie, that is a fellow Soul Mate author, the lovely
Now then Madelyn is very into gypsies.
I have no idea if Madelyn has any. Caravans or hamsters living in them. The world does not all revolve around hamsters.
What I can tell you is she’s going to share her inspirational secrets with us today.
So, without more hamstah ado, I am going to hand you over to her.
Five Secret Things About
For The Love Of A hamstah Gypsy
(A Gypsy hamstah)
Five Secret Things About
For The Love Of A Gypsy
By Madelyn Hill
Sharing secrets is fun! Here are my top five secrets behind For The Love Of A Gypsy…
#5 Irishman! YAY!
Who can resist an Irish Rogue? Not me! I love looking for inspiration and Pierce Bronson was the perfect mix of a masculine and mischievous that I was looking for in Declan.
#4 An Innocent Heroine
My Gypsy heroine, Martine is an innocent heroine who wants to know more, do more, but has no idea how. When I found this picture, I knew Anne Hathaway was the perfect inspiration. She trains dogs and can spar with her brother, which makes her intelligent as well!
#3 Gypsies
This is something romantic about the nomadic lifestyle of a Gypsy. Once I delved into the research, I found that they are an interesting, noble people.
#2 Ireland
IRELAND!!!!!
Ahhh, Ireland. I just can’t tell you how much I love all things Irish. While I’m part Irish, there is something about the country that truly speaks to me. And it helps that the accent is so charming.
#1 Titles
For The Love Of A Gypsy was always the working title of this story. That’s how I work, I come up with a title and it truly directs my story. I’ve never changed any of the titles and I hope I’ll never have to!
Check out my website and my Pinterest board highlighting my inspiration. For The Love Of A Gypsy Pinterest board .
Bio:
Madelyn Hill has always loved the written word. From the time she could read and all through her school years, she’d sneak books into her textbooks during school. And she devoured books daily. At the age of 10 she proclaimed she wanted to be a writer. After being a “closet” writer for several years, she sent her manuscripts out there and is now published with Soul Mate Publishing. And she couldn’t be happier! A resident of Western New York, she moved from one Rochester to another Rochester to be with the love of her life. They now have 3 children and keep busy cooking, watching their children’s sporting events, and of course reading!
EXTRACT
A rider urged his horse forward. He wore a leather doublet of a quality she’d never seen. The black hide was pierced with metal and thick stitching formed elaborate Celtic designs. Regal and rich. His breeches hugged his thighs so closely ’twas indecent, but that didn’t stop her gaze from venturing along the hard expanse of his legs. Heat crept up her neck and flushed her face like a flame.
He tipped his head in her brother’s direction. Martine gasped.
The stranger from the glen.
“We’ve business,” was all he said.
Rafe nodded, but didn’t twitch a muscle. Martine wanted to run from the confrontation, hide in her grandmother’s berth safe from the bewitching blue eyes of the intruder. But her feet stayed rooted to the ground.
Och, this man was handsome. Strong jaw, brilliant eyes, and a broad mouth composed a man so striking. His face was a composite of hard planes of granite that matched the intense glare of his eyes.
The man sighed and his comrades inched closer to his side. They dressed as he did, except their clothing lacked the obvious quality she could see stitched in the leather of his.
“The villagers are concerned with your presence, Gypsy.”
She could feel the tension in the tight line of her brother’s shoulders, taste the anger in the air that hummed about him and the stranger. His jaw clenched and he remained silent.
“I’ve come to ask you to leave.”

Noelle Clark, Irish Blessings and the Appin Murder.
All right dudes, can we can it please? We are here today to show off Noelle Clark’s new cover.
Of her new book. in the Robinhill Farm series.
Noelle’s book isn’t out till June 30th but I am sure she won’t mind us having a sneak peek at her cover and blurb. And maybe she will come back with a wee Irish story for us.
James of the Glen? Well, James was a Scotsman famous for being wrongly accused and hung for the murder of The Red Fox.
The Red Fox, was of course a government factor of estates forfeited after the Battle of Culloden when the British government wanted to wipe the Highland people off the face of the earth by any means possible. He was shot dead by an unknown gunman while on his way to evict Glen Duror’s farming tenants. The Government demanded blood and who better to arrest than James Stewart, veteran of Culloden and organiser of the opposition to the Red Fox. The story was the inspiration behind the book Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson.
And the photos well above are of James’s actual birthplace in Glen Duror. It’s a very nice walk to the bothy. Quite the spot to camp in if you are into bothies.
AND there are other walks associated with what is known as the Appin Murder. There’s the Duror walk from Ballachulish to Glen Duror, if you fancy a nice long trek
and there’s the Brecklet Trail, if you’re not so sure about that.
I leave you with Noelle’s book.
HONOR’S PROMISE (Liam’s Journey) by Noelle Clark. Release Date 30 June 2015
Loyalty and love define Liam. But will obligations to family and farm get in the way of him finding true happiness?
BLURB
Loyalty is high on Liam Cullen’s agenda, but lately he’s been feeling restless. He wants to run away from the endless routines of life on the family farm. He contemplates busting free of the sometimes suffocating confines of the close-knit family. He’d like to see the world. Maybe meet a few girls.
Riddled with guilt that he could even consider such a thing, the final blow comes when Liam’s abilities as a first rate farmer are questioned. He sees red and his quick temper is sorely stretched. He struggles inner demons and attempts to fight the inevitable – until he meets the girl with the blue-green eyes and the copper-colored hair.
Without knowing it, Aislin O’Neill sweeps Liam off his feet, and transports him to a place he’s only ever dreamed of. It’s soon apparent that Aislin has her own inner battles. Will she break her self-imposed vow to never get involved with anyone again?
EXTRACT
A couple of hours later, Liam pulled up out the front of the home he shared with his mam and brother. The only home he’d ever known. He knew every square inch of the house, the gardens, all the outbuildings and sheds, and most likely every grain of soil as well. It was his home and he loved it. He loved his family. He turned the ignition key and cut the engine. But had he missed any of it while he’d been away in Cork?
The answer turned like a knife in his chest. If he’d been a married man, maybe even with children of his own, he would have been like Kevin and rushed off as soon as he could to get back home. To kiss his wife, hoist his children high up on his shoulders and give them some chocolates or other little treats he’d bought them in Cork. That night, he’d make passionate love to his wife and tell her how much he missed her and how much he loved her.
But here he was, thirty-five years old, and he had nothing. He had no one. Of course, his family loved him. He never questioned that at all. And he loved them back, maybe tenfold. He knew he had a massive capacity to love people, especially since little Rory and Dev had joined their family. Both now three years old, they never failed to warm his heart with their enthusiasm for life, their passion for learning new things, and their funny sense of humor.
He slowly opened the car door and grabbed his bag from the back seat. The door slammed shut harder than he had intended. With leaden feet, he plodded slowly to the kitchen door and let himself in.
Predictably, his mam was in the throes of boiling a kettle for a cup of tea and placed a still-warm apple tart on the table. The aroma made his mouth water.
“Heard you drive up.” His mother turned to him, a loving smile plastered across her face. She stood on tiptoes and threw her arms around his shoulders. “How are you, my love? I’ve missed you.”
As he always did, he picked his mother up like she weighed a feather and swung her around the kitchen, her feet swinging and her laugh ringing out. He kissed her head, loving the familiar scent of her shampoo, then gently set her back down on the floor just as the kettle on the gas hob whistled.
“I’ve missed you too, Mam.”
She threw some tea leaves into the pot, poured boiling water in, and replaced the lid of the teapot. Then she turned and surveyed her oldest boy from top to toe.
“Oh, Liam. You don’t half look like a very handsome man all kitted out in those clothes. You should wear them more often.”
“And where would I wear them, Mam? To the dairy? Eh? To milk the cows in them?”
He saw a light, a mere speckle, extinguish in his mother’s eyes, and kicked himself for being such a grump. He hadn’t been in a bad mood for a whole week, and here he was, home less than a minute, and he was already hurting the woman he loved most in the world. He strained to form a smile, managing one that he thought would probably convince her he was just joking. “’Course, I’d have all those doe-eyed cows trying to get me to breed with ’em if I did that, to be sure.”
He held his breath. Moira Cullen was no dill. She knew him better than he knew himself, of that he was certain.
She gave a brief nod. “Well, that’d make for front page news in the Tipp Times now, wouldn’t it?” She reached down and rotated the tea pot three times while it sat on a trivet on her kitchen table, then picked it up and poured two cups of tea. “I made yer favorite. Apple and cinnamon tart.”
“Aw thanks, Mam. Ye do spoil me. I’ve really missed your home cooking.”
And so, the following hour passed pleasantly, Liam’s mother eager to know every detail of his week in Cork. She was interested in the course, in the other farmers who went, and of course, in the teacher. He obliged her, telling her every detail he could remember. A pang of guilt made its presence known when it came to telling her too much about Aislin. His mam was at first surprised the teacher was a woman, then, after she asked how old, she was in deep shock.
“What are they thinking, having a bit of a girl like that teaching fully grown men? I’m sure Father Flynn wouldn’t approve of that at all. Disgraceful.”
And so, Mrs. Cullen never found out how beautiful Aislin was. He didn’t tell her about her beautiful green-blue eyes, and the way the sunlight glinted on her hair at about three every afternoon as it peeped in through the western window of the training room, reflecting copper-red highlights around the room and brightening his whole day. He didn’t bother to tell her how the cadence of Aislin’s words, the timbre of her voice, lulled him into a total trance as surely as if she’d hypnotized him. And he certainly didn’t tell his mam that he knew as sure as night follows day that he’d fallen in love with the beautiful Aislin O’Neill.
