I Come Bearing Gifts

giving a giftIt’s that time of year when folks scurry about buying last minute gifts and then rush home to wrap them in time for Christmas later this week. (And yes, I’ll be joining the mad dash later today since I’m so far behind on my shopping list …)

Of course, while thinking of the perfect gifts to give, there is still a part of each us that emerges with the glee of a small child poring over the Sears Wish Book of days gone by. What do I want to find under the tree? And then maturity steps in to ask w...

Guest Marian Merritt – Rely on Me

Marian MerrittDear readers, from time to time I ask others to share their stories of faith, hope, and love in order to encourage us all. If you have a story to share, you can find my guidelines under the Connect tab. In the meantime, welcome Marian Merritt!

“Rely on Me.”

Those were the words that came to me as though spoken audibly when my husband and I moved to a small town (2500 population) in Northwestern Colorado in 2007. I had a great life in Texas, had many writer friends, attended a wonderful Bible...

Writing On the Road

entrepreneur-593357_1280Want to know a secret? I get some of my best ideas while driving.

Something about staring at the miles of road ahead of me allows the usual chaotic mixture of random thoughts to fall into order. Before I know it, I’m repeating a thought or two over and over hoping I won’t forget the special flash of inspiration.

The secret about my brainstorming hotspot is that I’ve been known to do a one-handed-fishing-expedition in my purse to find a notebook and a pen. While keeping my eyes focused out t...

Seeking God’s Will Or Doing It?

writing-923882_1280Those who forever seek the will of God are overrun by those who do it. ~ Reinhard Bonnke

It’s an interesting season around our house as our oldest son is applying for college scholarships and we’re praying for open doors for him to play the sport he loves at the next level. So many questions to be answered as he stands at a major crossroads in his life.

I still vividly remember seeking God’s direction for my life both in high school and then later in college. Where should I look for a job aft...

Living the Dream

Cinderella“A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep …” Can’t you just hear the singing mice and twittering birds? My daughter has been watching the live action remake of Cinderella almost daily since it came out on DVD. Once the credits finally roll, some of the original songs emerge and so the idea of dreams is on my mind.

Well, I can’t blame it entirely on a movie since for the last three weeks I’ve been living the dream of being a published novelist. Something about seeing my name...

Catch of a Lifetime: The Reviews Are In

football-801047_1280Is it too honest to say that the past two weeks have been the most exhilarating and exhausting I can recall since giving birth to my children? Well, in a way I did give birth … to a book. After years of longing and wishing, I finally entered the countdown of months, weeks, and finally days until Catch of a Lifetime released into the hands of readers who might take one look at my baby, wrinkle their nose, and try to find something kind to say.

So far, the reviews have been very kind and it’s b...

Catch of a Lifetime: Did You Know?

Luke senior year footballIt’s been a week since my debut launched and I’m exhausted in a happy, extremely-grateful way. (Sort of like this picture of my oldest son after a football game only without the stink or slimy mouth-guard tucked behind my ear!)

Between the launch group party and blog tour stops, I spent the week interacting with readers and watching reviews show up on Amazon, Goodreads, Facebook, and other places. (I’ll share some of my favorites here next week.)

Today, I thought it would be fun to point out...

Catch of a Lifetime … Launched!

Catch of a Lifetime coverIt’s hard to believe that after years of writing, editing, and pitching followed by months of work with the amazing Bling! Romance team and weeks of pre-launch marketing efforts, it all comes down to a single day.

This day.

Catch of a Lifetime, my fiction-writing debut, is officially a published book! All those pre-orders are on their way to readers and now the fun really begins as we wait for sales numbers and reviews. In the meantime, there are several places to join me in the celebration.

Catch of a Lifetime: Meet Marquise Steele

One final week until launch and excitement is building here for the home team. The coaching staff has been working the players hard during the pre-season football camp and even a few three-a-day practices, but they’ll be transitioning to a normal practice routine this week. It’s a whole new world, especially for the freshmen players. I think I saw Marquise Steele headed into the weight room.

Marquise - Steven JacksonNot sure why you’d want to talk to me instead of one of the starters unless you want to record a “kne...

Catch of a Lifetime: Meet Reed Worthington

Two weeks to launch and today I’d like you to meet the new receivers coach for the Front Range University Cougars, Reed Worthington. That’s his office just down the hall. Let’s see if he has a little free time.

Reed Worthington imageFree time? I don’t think I’ve had any free time in weeks, but come on in anyway. I welcome the excuse to stop staring at my computer screen. It’s hard to believe I miss my days as a player during pre-season camp. At least then, I got to rest between our three workouts or practices eve...
