Uber Tales Chapter 7
Spotlights are casting an indigo hue over the entire room as an exotic dancer, as they like to call themselves, works the pole. Strobe lights are pulsating in time with “Cherry Pie” blasting out of the 5,000-watt sound-system. Each ray of light pinpoints sequins on the dancer’s gold lamẻ G-string and shoots hundreds of reflections back toward the audience.
Other than the G-string, the dancer’s down to pretty much nothing, and she looks hot. She goes by Candi and, like every dancer w...

Uber Tales Chapter 6
I’m working on my laptop when my iPhone rings. Sitting in a swivel chair at my desk, wearing gray shorts and an Eagles sweatshirt. Bare feet. A mug of coffee sits on the desk, off to the right. An episode of Better Call Saul is playing on a big-screen TV behind me.
Check the caller ID and see: MY FRIEND. Tap the phone to answer and put the call on speaker.
“Hey, Friend. What’s up?”
“Just seeing what you’re up to,” My Friend replies.
“Getting some writing done. How’d it go last night...

Uber Tales Chapter 5
Late the next afternoon.
Jess is the only one sitting at the bar when her cellphone rings. She answers with: “Hello.”
“You there already?” Margo asks.
“Yes.”
“Where?”
“Upstairs.”
“Just walking in the front door,” Margo says. “See you in a sec.”
They’re meeting at the Continental Midtown in Center City. It’s a chic establishment sitting on the corner of 18th and Chestnut, three stories tall, with a restaurant and a bar on the first floor. The second floor consists of a balcony rimming the peri...

Uber Tales Chapter 4
The Radnor House Condominium complex sits on the south side of Lancaster Avenue, on top of a hill, maybe a hundred yards off the road. Twelve stories, but looks taller because it’s on top of the hill. Even without the hill, it’s the tallest building for miles around.
Steve’s SUV slows down and makes a right turn, pulling off of Lancaster Avenue and onto a crescent-shaped driveway. The driveway leads up the hill toward the main entrance. No other traffic in the driveway at this hour...

Uber Tales Chapter 3
I’m behind the A-Building at Media Station Apartments. A chain-link fence straight ahead of me, six-feet tall, with a steep drop-off on the other side. Obviously a dead-end. Can’t drive straight out. Hafta turn around.
Back up … Pull forward … Slowly … Back up … Pull forward … Carefully … Only way to avoid bumping a parked car, and they’re on both sides of me. All over the place.
Whoever designed this lot never intended to live here, that’s for sure. Cramped. Not much room to maneuv...

Uber Tales Chapter 2
“He’s being a dick,” a female says into her cellphone. The female’s name is Jessica, but she goes by Jess. Good-looking, with dirty blonde hair and an athletic body.
She’s wearing a robe and slippers, and sitting on a sectional sofa in the living-room. Holding a wine glass, half full, with the TV playing in the background. A rerun of Frasier on Netflix.
“Does he know you got fired?” her best friend asks.
“Texted him … Told him I needed to talk to him. Said it was important.”
“And he...

Uber Tales Chapter 1
The Uber driver’s approaching Geno’s Steaks at the intersection of Passyunk and Ninth in South Philly when his iPhone rings. It’s 11:22 on a Thursday night and he’s debating whether to keep driving or to quit.
The phone’s mounted in the middle of the dashboard. He looks at the caller ID and sees: MY FRIEND. Taps the phone to answer and puts the call on speaker.
“Your beater-phone’s working tonight, eh Friend?”
“Ha-ha-ha,” My Friend replies. “I got a good phone.”
His name’s Mike and...

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
My first Uber Tale started out as ACCIDENTAL AFFAIR … then went to the plural ACCIDENTAL AFFAIRS. But now I’m toying with changing the title to GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES and changing the cover … to a sexy one.
Could take advantage of spillage from the classic movie starring Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe.
Should be ready by the end of March or early April.
