How To Learn Any Language In Record Time

This elearning infographic founds its way into my inbox a while ago. Although I don’t necessarily agree with the statement that by following these tips and tricks you’ll be fluent in about 3 months, they are useful tips, and depending on how much time you spend learning, you could, of course, be fluent! The inforgraphic is meant for any language, which means it is also suitable for learning [...]

Duolingo’s Tinycards now available on Android and Web

In July 2016 Duolingo launched a new app called Tinycards but it was only available iOS. On 2nd March 2017 they launched the website version which is also mobile friendly, so I excitedly checked it out, as it means you can now use the cards on any mobile device. Have a look (unless you already know it all from your iPhone ☺)

Wir suchen Deutschland – Meissen and Leipzig

As mentioned last month, today we will continue with Peter and Sabinchen’s journey through Germany, as they travel to Meissen and Leipzig.

Practise your listening skills with German online radio, audio books and podcasts

Always on the lookout for free resources for you I have before given you links to websites where you can practise your listening skills. But a few weeks ago I was told about hit-tuner.net, a paradise for German learners as it has such a variety of podcasts. For example, a list of podcasts aimed at those who are learning German: deutsch lernen. Instead of [...]

Anybody who has watched the German Sesame Street – Sesamstraße – will most likely remember the theme song: Der, die, das. Wer? Wie? Was? Wieso? Weshalb? Warum? Wer nich fragt bleibt dumm! Der, die, das. Wer? Wie? Was? Wieso? Weshalb? Warum? Wer nich fragt bleibt dumm! Tausend tolle Sachen Die gibt es überall zu sehen. Manchmal muss man fragen, Um sie zu verstehn. Der, die, das, Wer? Wie? [...]

Wir suchen Deutschland – Erzgebirge and Dresden

Last week I told you about this book I have “Wir suchen Deutschland” from 1948.  So today I share the first two pages with you.

Wir suchen Deutschland – an old children’s book

When I was born in 1958 my mum was given a birthday present for me by a relative of my grandmother’s. It was a book which she kept for me until I was able to listen to her read the story. She must have read the book to me and let me play with it as the pen drawings on the cover and the slightly ripped pages show. [...]

How to say sorry in German

Sometimes I hearstudents mixing up “Entschuldigung” and “Entschuldigen Sie” by saying “Enschuldigung Sie”. So, today’s post is a post about the different ways of saying sorry. The noun Entschuldigung can bean apology, an excuse, or sorry. If youneed to ask somebody a question and are about to approach them (for example when asking for directions or the time) you can either say “Entschuldigung …” That would be short [...]

How to learn German when you only have 5 minutes

Last week I challenged you to practise some German every day for a whole yearfor at least 5 minutes per day. Some people will argue that 5 minutes is not enough, but I believe it is a good time to get into a habit. Imagine if you commit yourself to practise German for one hour every day. For many people it will start well and then [...]
