Five German Christmas Poems

Today is Heiligabend, Christmas Eve, the day when the Germans open their Christmas presents. Traditionally, before the Bescherung, the giving of the presents, children would sing or play a song or recite a poem. And I’m pleased to hear that in many families that tradition continues. So I here are  five of the most popular poems, which to this day still get read or recited in Germany:

Language study habits – an infographic

  This infographic arrived in my inbox a few days ago and I found it interesting to see how self learner study their languages. 4 December 1875 – birthday of Rainer Maria Rilke

Rainer Maria Rilke (full name René Karl Wilhelm Johann Josef Maria Rilke) was born on the 4th December 1875 in Prague, Bohemia, at the time part of the Austrian Empire. He was a  poet and novelist who wrote in German and also French and whose literature has been translated into several languages. Wir suchen Deutschland – then and now

  If you’ve been following my series of pages from an old children’s book, you would have seen that – according to the 1948 book – it was quite an adventure to travel through Germany. To remind you again, the book covered in poem form a fictitious journey of two small children, Peter and Sabine, who went to the following places: Erzgebirge & Dresden
