On Being a Social Introvert

When you hear the wordsintrovert andextrovert, what comes to mind?

If you’re like a large chunk of the population, you view an extrovert as someone who loves being around people. The life of the party. Social butterfly. And the introvert is typically shy, loves being alone. And, admit it, you may have imagined a thirty-five-year-old living in his parents’ basement. (Okay, maybe you didn’t, but someonedid.) Awkward at parties. Socially stupid.

Finding What Works For YOU

source.

source.

I have a confession to make: For a long time, I subscribed to the idea thatreal writers (whatever the hell that means) write every. single. day. And that if I did not write every day, then I was somehow not a real writer. So when a day, two days, a whole week would go by without words, I would despair that I was a fraud. This would make it easier to keep onnot writing. Because, I mean, I wasn’t a real writer anyway, so what was the point.

Then one day, I set out to give my kitchen a lig...

INDIEpendence Day

IndiependencebadgeHey, all! The lovelies over at The Indelibles are hosting their second annual INDIEpendence Day BlogHop, a fun group party where we all love on indie books and share that love with others.

I won’t lie, it was super-duper hard for me to decide which book I wanted to share with everyone. I read a LOT of indie titles, and I have a long list of books I love. And in the end, I failed and couldn’t narrow it down, so I am cheating and featuring two books. But they are in the same series, so it’s fair...

Metamorphosis_LogoNo, this isn’t another post about me strapping the Boy Sprout into his jogger and hitting the road. This is more of a metaphorical running. Today (finally!) I got the website for Metamorphosis Books up and running. All my author services – editing, and now eBook formatting and print layout – run through Metamorphosis Books. Go check it out!

The Reluctant Runner

I used to love running like whoa. The rush of the air, the pounding of my heart, the music in my ears, the time to let my mind wander and stretch and work things out. The sweat that spoke of a job well done. If I had a problem I needed to work out, I laced up my trusty sneakers and hit the pavement. Running has helped me work through sadness, frustration, anger . . . plot holes in my writing, confusion in my personal life. Pretty much anything I couldn’t wrap my mind around, I was able to han...

Irreverent Parenting 101

Boy Sprout will be two and a half next month. Only in the last couple months has he been interested in talking, and his vocabulary is growing exponentially. On top of learning tons of new words, he is practicing forming short sentences. Probably this isn’t how most parents do it, but here’s an example from this last weekend that gives a pretty good idea of how he practices his sentences.

Word: Toot!

Two Words: BIG toot!

Three-word sentences: You big toot! (He calls himself YOU, because when we p...

Indie Life: finding focus

Indie Life

Indie Life

One of the most wonderful things about being an indie author is that I get to control my own career. I decide who edits my work, what my cover looks like, marketing and promotion, and the schedule on which a base my releases.

One of the hardest things about being an indie author is that I get to control my own career. I don’t have someone else telling me what needs to be done and by when I need to do it.

Because of this, I’ve found it difficult to stay focused. I’ll be working on edit...
