(C)amp NaNoWriMo

April is Camp NaNoWriMo, so I should be writing like a maniac. But the truth?I haven’t even started my book yet. *shrug* I’m not too worried. It’s been a weird start to the month, and I can start any time. But, to get me in the mood for some massive word counts, how about a repeat of a post I wrote right after NaNoWriMo 2014, shortly after finishing Someone Else’s Summer. Good? Good.

(B)reak Free

A while back, my fantastic critique partner Ashley had her debut novel published. It’s agorgeousstory, and her writing is beautiful.

Unfortunately, the small press she published through ended up being…well, I don’t have many appropriate words for it, so let’s just say it was abad badbadexperience. Ashley had to go through quite a fight, but after many months of battling, she got the rights to her book back.

And she’s republished it under her own terms!

I’m so happy Ashley was able to break fr...

Sometimes

Sometimes writing takes you on a path you never intended to take. It sweeps you away on a journey that is both exhilarating and terrifying. It consumes you, morning, noon, and night; it woos you away from your other obligations and tasks.

Kilgore Rangerettes

The Stars at Night is set in the world of competitive Texas Drill Teams. These are the Kilgore Rangerettes…being a ‘rette is my main character’s biggest dream. Source.

It is the most amazing feeling.

That’s what’s happened with Someone Else’s Summer. And it’...

Pitch Madness

Can we talk a bit about writing and expectations and trusting your gut and taking chances?

A while back, I wrote this book. I was so madly in love with it. I couldn’t get enough. For some reason, it took me forever to do anything with it after I finished. But, even so, I still thought I had something special on my hands.

Pitch Madness sign-ups were last month, and on a whim, I entered. I honestly didn’t think I’d even get in – the competition is fierce, and there are SO MANY great authors try...

So I did a thing…

It’s been a long time in the works, fiddling with it here, tweaking a font there. Scrapping the whole idea, oh, about a dozen times. Recruiting an actual designer for help with text placement and a fun pop of unexpected color. Back to the board for the perfect fonts to fit in where said designer laid out. And finally, I give you…

The new cover for 99 Days of Laney MacGuire!

Okay, so it’s not changed a TON. I still adore the image and feel that it captures the story pretty perfectly. So whil...

Announcing…NEVER BE YOUNGER!

neverbeyoungerfeatured

I’ve mentioned this some on Facebook and Twitter, so if you follow me there, you already know…but I figured it’s about time to tell you more aboutNever Be Younger.

Since it comes out in a week and a half!

It all started last fall. I was chatting with my friend Jessica, as we do pretty much constantly. I don’t remember how itstarted, but at one point she said something along the lines of:

Say HI to Jessica!

Say HI to Jessica!

I think it’d be really cool to do an anthology of stories all based on Shakespeare.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted byThe Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Top Ten Beach-y Books

(Actually, there were two options for this week: 1)Ten Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer, or 2)Ten Books I Think Make Great Beach Reads. I chose to split my post between the two. Because.)

Some of my favorite books that make me swoon for the beach:

Friday Five

1. You guys! I amfinallyin my new house.FINALLY.Well, really, we’ve been here a bit more than a month, but we just got internet hooked up (rural internet is fun stuff, y’all), so I’m back in the real world again. But even better than having the internet again is having my treadmill back! I missed standing and walking while I work. It’s been too long.

2. Wednesday night, I finished my read through ofSomeone Else’s Summer.Huzzah! I have a few pages of notes to address, plus some notes coming in...
