Why You Need to Help Doctors Fighting Against the Reservation Policy for Post Graduate Seats #MurderOfMerit

Lost in between the news of what leaders say and promise - colourful, controversial or just cuckoo utterings - during election season in India right now are the images of young men and women wearing white aprons holding placards and posters across Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur and other cities of Maharashtra.

You may have skimmed past the images if they appeared on your timeline or put it down to the usual 'doctors crying because someone got beaten up' that we share (I know I do).

I wish you wouldn't.

Norwich community responds to xenophobic attack with a lovebomb of solidarity

Attacking a shop that catered to Eastern European immigrants, an arsonist hoped to drive home the point that immigrants were not welcome in England. He did not factor in the people of Norwich.

When an immigrant's store became the target of a xenophobic attack, the people of Norwich stood up for the victim

Even with a rise of anti-immigrant sentiments across the world, Sorina Abraham did not expect it to hit her in the peaceful city of Norwich that has been kind to her and her store 'Village Shop' for years. She was thus devastated to wake up to the news that someone had broken the shop's window and set fi...

Local Police & Firefighters give Autistic boy the best day of his life

11 year old Austin Mendrala suffers from Tourette's syndrome and autism. The tough combination meant that he did not have a lot of friends. Having to play by himself all summer, the loneliness was affecting him badly. As a desperate measure, his mother put out a plea on Facebook asking local parents to bring their children to the Mastricola Elementary School playground so her son could make some friends.

The local Merrimack police and firefighters proved they could be heroes even without a gun or a fire hose.

Her good intentions began on a very bad note as mother and child sat there by the pla...

12 year old has prepared and distributed thousands of meals to the homeless

Living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Liam Hannon is a boy with a difference.  Having seen the state of so many homeless people around the area, he wanted to help in whatever way he could. But honestly, what could a little boy of 10 years do, right?

12 year old Liam Hannon has prepared and served over 2000 meals to the homeless in Cambridge

Well, back in 2017, the kid who was yet to enter fifth grade in school started out by making lunch for the homeless one day a week. Placing the food in paper bags, he would add a handwritten inspiring message and add a doodle on the bag too. Eve...

Immigrant-owned restaurant feeds the homeless for free everyday in Washington DC

Situated a few blocks away from the White House, Sakina Halal Grill in Washington DC is a restaurant with a difference. Enter during the busy lunch time and you will find businessmen and women eating side by side with the homeless. The owner Kazi Mannan, an immigrant from Pakistan, would not have it any other way.

Pakistani immigrant Kazi Mannan's restaurant Sakina Halal Grill in Washington feeds over 16000 homeless peoples for free every year

Growing up as one of 11 children in a village with no electricity, running water or even a building for a school, Kazi is no stranger to poverty and hunger himself. Even in those try...

These two Teen sisters are changing the way the World deals with Plastic Bags

Mention 'Bali' and images of an ideal beach vacation with sparkling oceans and swaying palm trees come to mind. What you may not know is that Bali is also the second largest producer of ocean born plastic pollution. And over the years, that pollution has started to destroy the lovely impression of Bali.

Taking on a government is no small feat as thousands of leaders across the world will tell you. Yet where lawmakers were reluctant unwilling to fight for changing the system of decay that had s...

The Indian whose free services has saved over 1,80,000 cancer patients

You don't know Harakhchand Savla. It is time you do.

Three decades ago, the young man would stand in front of Tata Cancer Hospital in Mumbai, watching helplessly as patient after patient stood in endless queues, suffering the agony of watching their loved ones in distress, unable to procure food or afford medicines. The Pune Doctor who is Changing the way India (and the world) Treats the Girl Child

One of the hardest things a doctor has to do is to inform someone that their loved one has died. Imagine living in a society where a doctor finds the hardest thing to tell relatives of his patients is that the baby born is a girl.

Do not look too far away. That society is still vast regions of India even today. And Dr Ganesh Rakh from Pune in Maharashtra is just one of many Indian doctors who have watched the smile vanish from faces of parents, relatives and even husbands when informed that a...
