Gary Vaynerchuk Wants You to Post It Already
We’ve been doing it all wrong. Most of us would be obsessed with the amount of likes that our pictures get on Instagram. It’s far from the actual point of creating the post in the first place: to create awareness of whatever it is you want to say to the world.
According to Gary Vee, we need to create a content with empathy, a content that is going to entertain our audience or keep them informed. We don’t just post a picture because we look good in it. Tell people, what’s in it for them. Tell a story. Gary said written word is important, even on Instagram posts. Make sure you put a proper amount of caption in it. Audio contents such as podcasts will grow big as well, because we have more and more limited time and we want to make our time productive by doing two things in the same time. I already do this, listening to audio books while doing my makeup and many people listening to podcasts while at the gym or driving.
I started my own #productivity podcast #GiniAjaDeh and I talked a bit more insights of what Gary says in Forward 2019 Jakarta, check the podcast here: http://bit.ly/ginigary
“You, already know what you want to do!” Gary pointed his finger to our face.
I was like, I don’t know.
“Yes, you do! You know. But you think it’s too small, or too difficult, or you think of what other people would say.”
I’ve been in this business of constantly have different opinion with my parents (I want to be a writer, my parents want me to be an engineer, now I’m an engineer and entrepreneur who wrote 32 books, everybody wins and I can see that my parents are very proud of me) and other people (Contrary to Indonesian people’s beliefs, I got divorced when I was 27 and take off my hijab 3 years ago, but coming out of it, I’m still my self, I don’t change to be a horrible person or something, so people start to forget about it), so I think I knew a little bit on how to ignore other people’s opinion and focus on what I want to do with my life.
But as I write this down, I remember that I always want to be a relationship coach. I love listening to people, I love distilling formula of experiences that I consume and I want to talk more about love and relationship on my contents. For me, relationship connects directly to productivity.
Even when I think it’s important topic to talk about, voices in my head told me, “But you’re not even in a relationship! What do you know about relationship? This is totally unprofessional and embarrassing! People will judge you!” And a lot more.
Gary said, “Write what you know and write what you like.” – Well, I know something about relating-ship from my own and other people’s experiences and I love this topic a lot. I read tons of books and watch videos about it.
The one who’s stopping me to move forward, and do 3 posts a day in 5 different channels on relationship, is myself. The one that can allow it to happen, is also myself.
So, let this be a beginning of breaking my fear to share who I am.

The Quest to be Free
Have you ever fall in love so hard it kills you? You can feel anxiety creeping in your back bone. The kind of fear with no exact logic. The what if he woke up one day and decide that he doesn’t love you anymore?
Sitting alone with my juice and healthy food, I thought keeping it clean will help me clear my mind. But nothing can help you when you’re falling in love. Hoping that the damage is not too irreversible, that’s the only thing you can do.
Nobody wants to be in pain. You’re kind of upset of how the same feeling that can move you, would be the same thing that destroys you.
I am feeling this anger and I accept. I accept this feeling I have. I want to feel it all.
I want to be FREE.
Free from hatred.
Free from attachment.
Free from ignorance.
Free from hatred.
Free from hating myself for being vulnerable.
It’s ok to love someone.
It’s ok not to be able to be perfect.
It’s ok not to always get what I want.
It’s ok to be passionate to the person that I love.
Free from attachment.
Free from wanting to own something or someone.
Free to be happy the way I am at the moment.
Free to use my remaining time on earth to the fullest.
Free to remember that I’m taken care of (by God, the Angels, family, friends).
Free to focus on what matters to humanity.
Free from Ignorance.
Free to search more knowledge.
Free to be more compassionate.
Free to listen.
Free to be enlightened.
Free to find truth and the true meaning of life.
Real change happens in mind, thoughts and speech. But karma, only will be changed by action.

Essentially Essential Oil
I noticed something pleasantly different when I write my book last weekend.
Now, the book I’m writing at the moment has a different difficulty level. You have to understand stock market like an expert, because I’m writing the biography of one. With my work during workdays and all that shit that happened in my personal life, it was so difficult to focus to write. I can’t write for so long because my brain just seem to stuck.
But two weeks ago, I found these gems: essentially essential oils! I use Copaiba, which I bought because I burnt my fingers from nail polish remover (stupid wounds, really, but it might gave me new fingerprints, who knows?! ), and mixed it with Peppermint oil. I diffuse it, inhale it, rub it on my back and at the back of my neck. Suddenly, I’m back in the game! I write effortlessly and I’m now stopping only because I need more data from my client. But I’m almost finished on my first draft.
While writing, I’m drawing to just let my mind wander. Now, I like drawing since Junior High School, but my drawing sucks. But I don’t know what happened, my drawing suddenly become less sucks!
So Ika told me that Young Living has essential oil called Brain Power. Well, if a simple Peppermint can boost my productivity, then Brain Power may turn me into the lady version of Elon Musk! Ellen Musk!
Just Call Me Llia
To conclude a total hustling week, full of Go-Jek ride from meeting to meeting, let’s celebrate it with a selfie and a new name, sort of. Was born as Aulia, family called me Lia, changed my name to Ollie when I was in university, then now I officially want to change it again, back to my root, with a twist.
Just call me Llia.
Lessons from Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations

When You’re Tired: Rest
I always need minimum once a month getaway and I’ve been neglecting this need for the past few months due to work. Just recently, I have moved past a relationship, opening a new chapter in life, and I want a new fresh start. So I head to Bandung.
My friend Heera was opening her house for me, where I found peace, and the warmth of belonging. Spent my day at Bandung’s many parks and breath in as much as fresh air as I could get. Reading Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations once again, to remind myself how to be stoic in the hardest situations in life.
“I am willing to be ok,” I said to all my friends who asked me if I’m ok. I do feel I’m ok. But, of course, sadness comes like waves, and you have to deal with it one day at a time.
When I was a vegetarian last year, I said to myself, “Today, I’m eating only vegetables.” Not wanting to stress myself with the prospect of converting my whole entire life on being a vegetarian. And this also the same. Become perfectly balanced is a lifetime work. And only one thing I can say to myself, “Today, I am ‘sober’. I am aware of what life brings me, good and bad, it’s part of my life journey, and regardless, I choose to be happy.”

Best Books I’ve Read in 2017 that’s Changed My Life
I read hundreds of books in 2017. In case you’re wondering how to do that, you can watch my video ‘How to Read One Book a Day’ on YouTube
If you don’t have the kind of craziness and insatiability towards books like I do, I’d recommend few books I’ve read in 2017 that changed my life. Note: These are not new books, some of them are, but I put them in the list mostly just because I read it in 2017.
Diamond Cutter and The Karma of Love both by Geshe Michael Roach
Diamond Cutter concept is basically GIVE WHAT YOU NEED. Which is very simple and mind-blowing in the same time. If you need anything in life, YOU GIVE it FIRST, then you’ll receive anything you need. Now, understanding what you TRULY need, is a skill of its own. You may say that you need a boyfriend, and you’re confused on how to give a boyfriend to other people, heck, you’re having difficulties to find one yourself! But, if you think about it carefully, what you actually need is a COMPANION. Then you can give companion to other people who need it the most, like your parents, elderly people, your lonely friends, whatever.
The book Karma of Love show you hundreds of example of recognizing CORE things that you need especially in relationship. Highly recommended.
The Power of Moments by Chip Heath & Dan Heath
I am a super practical person, and I think special moments should be every day and every second not only for Valentine’s Day or Birthdays. BUT after I read this book, I feel that it makes sense to celebrate special moments to leave memories in special person’s life. This is also apply to business. Unforgettable moments CAN and supposed to be PLANNED. This book will tell you how.
Beyond Mars and Venus: Relationship Skills for Today’s Complex World by John Gray
I read this 346 pages book in one sitting for 3 hours. Getting a relationship is one thing but KEEPING a relationship is the true skill to have, especially in today’s world. John Gray updated his famous book Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, because nowadays more and more women felt like they’re from Mars lol.
In this new book, he gave practical ways to maintain a relationship. It gave me a lot of aha moments. One of his suggestions was for women to start sharing their feelings more and men to listen more. This is tough for me because I’m a logical person, I brush off my feelings about things most of the time. I’m not a baper (bawa perasaan or emo) person. But turns out, for women it’s good to be a bit baper. Who would’ve thought?!
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
My boyfriend said that he doesn’t give a fuck, and he cares, in the same time. This paradox is basically what the book said. Understand what’s important to give a fuck to. People who don’t give a fuck, will start a business anyway even when he knows he can fail. But he cares to society and how to make the world’s a better place. I’m still in page 20 of this book, but it’s already stole my heart.
Path to Personal Power by Napoleon Hill
Napoleon Hill is one hell of a writer. He accept the non-commissioned challenge for 10+ years from steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie to interview successful millionaires like Henry Ford, Thomas A. Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Einstein, etc, learn how they can be so successful and write it into books. Think and Grow Rich is one of the best books that everybody should read. But Path to Personal Power is the real hidden gem.
Napoleon said, ALL these successful people have DEFINITENESS OF PURPOSE in their life, he suggests that we WRITE DOWN what we want and take alone times to think about what we truly want. Read his book to know the step by step on how to do it.
I watched Denny Santoso’s interview with Comm. Mirza, and he said he write down his GOALS in life 5 times a day. No wonder he become so successful, because HE’S DEFINITE of what he wants to do. When you write it down, insights will add up to your strategy, and you can be clear of what you need to do.
That’s all for now! Follow me on Instagram @salsabeela to know more books I’ve read in 2017 with hashtag #NowReading
How about you? What’s the best books you’ve read in 2017?
NOT a New Year’s Resolution 2018
2017 is not an easy year for many people including me. But, it’s not fair to label it a ‘bad year’ because when I read the whole journal of 2017, I discover 20+ yayness and only 3 wtfs. My 2017 turns out to be not bad at all. It’s a sign that human’s brain only focus on problems and need exercise to practice gratitude.
To review my 2017, let’s look at them one by one and I’m going to make comment when I need to.
The YAYY:
I dance more!
This is surely the year of dancing. New year’s eve was opened with me and Vera stranded in a very absurd bar in the south of Jakarta where we’re the only people dancing. Since then, we’ve been dancing regularly, mostly every weekend. I dance to EDM and salsa, but lately enjoying club dance better. I don’t like exercising, so this is a good excuse to sweat!
Met my boyfriend
With intention to meet someone I can have relationship with, I was dating like I mean business. I craft and edit ‘the content’ (myself, the way I brand and talk about myself), measure and do A/B testing of the result of my ‘marketing’, and last but not least, with the right candidates, I make weekly chart to see the progress of our relating-ship. For all you John Green novel fans out there, sorry, not sorry. STRUCTURE before SUBSTANCE. Use your logic first on selecting the one, then you can pour your heart into it. Not the other way around. Well, at least for me, it works!
Become a Vegetarian
Started around February and lasted for 7 months, I think that’s the most ‘enlightened’ moments because I feel literally light in my body and in my mind. Being a vegetarian erased your brain fog. Your mind is super clear and sharp. No drowsiness during the day as well.
Traveling (for free) to Nepal, Sweden, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Hong Kong
Mostly travel for Girls in Tech Indonesia (teaching, meeting, speaking, attending conference, etc) and personal matter. But everything was paid for. Alhamdulillah
Female Squads #MistressMind
Yes, I have circle of feminines around me in Nggak Nyari and Getto group. Nggak Nyari (literally means not looking) is my support group related to personal life and relationship. Getto (Get together) is a group of women entrepreneurs who are strong and positive, beautiful and successful, always full ideas and ready to support. Plus I have few other best girlfriends that I can’t mention one by one. They’re vibrating in a high frequency and I’m lucky to have them around me.
Extensions!
When I was on a date, during a candle light dinner, a guy look at me closely, “You have beautiful eyelashes and your hair… love it.” I wink, “Thank you.” The truth is, they’re all fakes. I love the technology of hair extensions and eyelashes extensions can help boost women’s self confidence and eventually when I don’t have them anymore, I still got the magnetically strong confidence with me.
Work with my video team to create video content
My vlogs getting more in shape now because of my interns video team. You can check my channel here https://www.youtube.com/user/salsabeel4/
Embrace reading and experimenting with contents
Running content and media company means constantly need to learn how to create better contents that convert. I’m glad I’m able to experiment and do things that I love within my own company. I use hashtag #NowReading at my instagram @salsabeela. I read tons of books in 2017, but here are what I recommend: Diamond Cutter and The Karma of Love both by Geshe Michael Roach, The Power of Moments by Chip Heath & Dan Heath, Beyond Mars and Venus by John Gray, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson, Path to Personal Power by Napoleon Hill.
Writing Ellen May’s biography and accelerate my knowledge of technical analysis in stock market
Bitcoin didn’t faze me because Indonesia stock market offers more or less the same kind of profits, IF you know how to ‘play’. Writing a stock market expert biography means, I need to be able to have her mindset, including in trading. With the right attitude, effortless cuan or profit in stock market is surely an undeniable blessing.
Collaboration with Ayang Cempaka
Me and Ayang have passion for gratitude and that’s exactly our project going to be. No further details yet, but the collaboration is more than exciting for me. She’s one of the best illustrators in Indonesia and her cats (and babies) are adorable!

The WTFs:
Health issue
I finally feeling that my age started to get to me. I was constantly sick and felt tired almost all the time. This is frustrating for someone who always productive and on the go like me. Being a vegetarian helps, so I’ll try the middle ground, eating mostly fresh food like veg and fruits, drinks more water, and start to do yoga. I recently found that Madu Hitam Baduy works like charm to kickstart my self-healing method in my body. It’s like a natural antibiotic.
PHP (Pemberi Harapan Palsu, means, False Hope Giver) Issue
Lots of PHPs going on in 2017 that I started to sit down to list the characteristics of PHP so I can avoid them in the future. Also learning how to minimize the damage caused.
Credit Card issues
Somebody told me that I have ‘giving issues’ which means, I like to give, even when I don’t have. That’s not right. So I need to control how I use my money and be aware every time I use the plastic money in a non-productive way.
The theme of 2017 for me is simply SHOW UP. For any situations, I don’t need to worry, I just need to show up and be there to play my role. I guess 2018 is the year to start new habits to fix the WTFs in 2017.
Happy New Year, friends!

Selecting Gifts for The Newborn
My little brother just become a father few days ago. My first instinct was to get the mother a gift. Most baby gifts are for the baby, not the mother. And it usually very functional gifts, you name it: baby socks, breast pumps, etc. But I want something different.
[image error]So, I know my sister-in-law loves lipstick. So I get her 3 lipsticks and 1 cheek blush in shades that she used to wear plus some other adventurous colors. I also get her flowers and teddy bear for Baby Al. And guess what, she’s happy with the parcel!
