What is Reality?
What is reality?
Wiser men and women than me have been pondering this question for almost as long as we came down from the trees. But for our everyday purposes, reality is this moment. Reality is the world we experience, here and now.
Much of what we consider reality is, however, an illusion. Even brilliant scientist Albert Einstein told us this: “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”
But what does that mean? Simply put our individual awareness of “reality” is the creator of the illusion.
Bullshit? Well, let’s break this down, shall we? Consciousness creates reality. What that boils down to, however, is both ludicrously simple and mind-bogglingly complex.
No two people think alike. Further, no two people feel the same. How I describe the sensation of, say, depression, is probably not how you would describe it. And even if our descriptions are similar, we probably have different experiences with it.
The same applies to love, anger, jealousy, contentment and any other emotion you care to mention. Each of us has an individual and unique experience with these emotions. There are certainly similarities, but it is still different for each of us.
So let’s stretch this out some. Since we all feel things differently, we experience them differently. For example, the report of every single one of our senses differs from person to person. I love the smell of coffee, but I know people who find it disgusting. My wife enjoys the taste of cantaloupe, I think it tastes awful. I love the feeling of sand between my toes, while she finds it distressing. Much of the music that I enjoy others may not. The blue of the sky makes me feel happy…but some people feel that way under cover of grey clouds.
What is reality? The Definitions are Individual
Since all of our senses differ, how we perceive the world differs. Thus, that overall perception of reality for one is an illusion for another. Ergo, reality is an illusion for us all.
Some people find this notion terrifying. If this or that is unreal, then what IS real? Maybe the better question is, does it really matter?
This is where collective consciousness comes in to play. Rather than individually accept our own thoughts, feelings, actions and experiences as the creators of reality, people prefer the notion of reality handed to them. The reality where, rather than be empowered to be a creator, we are disempowered to be followers. A “normal” gets established, and people accept it for what it is, because they cannot accept that reality is actually completely individual.
I can see how this might be scary. Because power can feel scary, and we are shown ready example of “power corrupts”, ceding it somehow feels noble and selfless. The more I learn in life, the more I realize how totally wrong that is.
“We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts, is that the universe is in us.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson. If everything in the entire universe is energy, which can neither be created nor destroyed, then all is one. Our consciousness creates reality, both through awareness and our subconscious. This is why being in the here-and-now and totally aware allows us to manifest almost anything we desire.
What is reality? Reality is the creation of your consciousness. My perception of reality is not yours, but we both exist within the same confines of the world upon which our core spirit energy, these luminous beings, exist in these bodies.
What is Reality? Choices and Decisions, Conscious or Subconscious
I know that for most people, reality includes a lot of less-than-desirable things. Debts, bad relationships, dictators and economies and hunger and war and on and on and on. Some of these matters are fairly personal, while others are way outside of ourselves.
When we choose to accept this as reality, it is exactly what we get. It is because of everyone’s differing perceptions of reality that we can be so deeply divided. That’s why when most perceive a thing as awful and inhumane, people are able to perceive it as necessary and right. No, this is not in any way a justification for terrible things that are manifest, but it does give an explanation for how they persist.
“What you resist, persists.” – Carl Jung. What does that mean? How many times do we face “realities” we do not desire? How often are they due to resisting them? Consciousness creates reality – what we give our thought, feelings and actions to manifests. Sometimes whether we want it or not.
Choose to be aware and present in the now. Decide to be more conscious of what you think about, how you feel, and actions you take from there. When more of us work on our own so-called “realities”, we can develop better not only for ourselves, but for the collective consciousness.
This may or may not seem like some new-age hooky-spooky bullshit to you…but consider this: would you rather find that reality is and always has been in your control, and thus can be changed…or that you are a pawn of others, with no ability to do anything but accept the shit-sandwiches you are being served?

How are we Luminous Beings?
“Luminous beings are we – not this crude matter.” – Yoda.
Sure, this quote comes from a small green Muppet in an epic sci-fi story…but that does not lessen the truth of the statement. At our core we are beings of pure energy. The meat popsicles we see running around the planet are not who we are when all is said and done.
Why does this matter? Because we are beings of pure energy, rather than these bodies we present to the world, we are all bright and brilliant. Or at the very least, all of us possess the potential to be such.
For many people, it’s particularly hard to see this in ourselves. We get frustrated by life situations, world situations, the opinions and judgments of others and so forth. As such, we see ourselves as overweight, overwrought, stressed out, ugly, stupid, disempowered slaves to the grind.
Yet we are creatures of pure energy, luminous beings. Every one of us at our core is a brilliant light…brilliant in the sense of intelligence and brightness. We are capable of dazzling wonders, each and every one of us.
Every single element of this Universe is, at its core, energy. It is impossible to create or destroy this, as the energy transmutes form, so we have almost surreal potential. But this can be difficult to recognize, in especial with so many who, in their attempts to shine brightest, strive to dim those around them.
All of us are luminous beings
Our so-called leaders come from a place of lack and scarcity, in which everything has limits. Their power is an illusion they have created, by glowing brighter in their own way. However, rather than share their brightness, they choose to believe that there isn’t enough brightness for everyone, so they work on keeping everyone else lesser.
Human society obsesses with money, social status, celebrity, power and similar artifices. But from the poorest soul in the world to the wealthiest, all of us are luminous beings. When we recognize this in ourselves, we empower ourselves to change the world we live in.
How? By glowing brighter.
Positivity is high-energy. The frequency at which that energy vibrates is high, as such. Whether high frequency or low frequency, like attracts like. Recognizing our own infinite potential, we can strive to attract more of the good and positive to us.
How? By being aware. Right here, right now, unless you are under present duress, you likely just ARE. Not good, not bad, simply being. When we surrender to the here-and-now, and just BE, we open ourselves to feeling the luminous being that we are. Away from mind, away from the opinions and thoughts and expectations of others, when we simply BE, we can change anything and everything.
The positivity of surrendering to our inner selves and just being is incalculable. No thoughts, no pressures, no judgments, just being the luminous beings we are. When we see this, and surrender to it, we open ourselves to incredible possibilities.
Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.
Knowing that at our core we are luminous beings of endless potential energy, we can work with this to change the world. When we work with this energy and let go of the negative interior dialogues, judgments, and outside opinions about who we are or are supposed to be, we ultimately empower ourselves. When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

How Do I Empower My Reality?
I need to empower my reality.
Every week I write about how consciousness creates reality. I get into detail, and explore the various ways in which this works. This is something I have been developing and exploring for many years now.
The grand idea behind this is the Law of Attraction, the idea that like attracts like. When we take our thought, power it up with feeling, then use that to act intentionally, we do the work to manifest reality for ourselves.
Many others have written about this idea. I have researched, explored, listened to and read numerous books and courses in this notion. Further, I have succeeded at creating the reality I desired on more than one occasion.
In many respects, at this present moment, I have the life I could most desire. There are amazing people who make up my friends and loved ones; I am writing and blogging; my job features great hours, great coworkers – doing something I desire to do; I have a home that includes an incredible office from which I can compose this work; my health is good and improving; my finances are stabilizing.
It’s a pretty good reality. But it is not the end-all-be-all reality I desire. I know I am capable of more, that there are greater things I can accomplish. I need to empower my reality, and start exploring new ways to grow.
Reality, like power, is an illusion. What we have now is not the product of who we are, but rather who we were. In this moment, we are who we are because of who we were. The thoughts, feelings and actions or inactions we took leading to the now are what brought us to here.
Whether this place is good, bad, or indifferent, it is changeable.
Why should I empower my reality?
A great deal of the illusion of reality comes from subconscious thoughts and feelings. When what we have is not precisely what we want, usually it’s derived from the subconscious, rather than the conscious.
This is why, rather than the illusion of power projected at us by outside sources, we need to work on empowering our power. You and I have the ability to build almost anything we set our minds to. When we are aware, in the here-and-now, we can consciously create a new reality. A reality we desire to live in.
Those who think they have power hold it from a place of lack and scarcity. They see it as pie, and there is not enough pie to go around, so they must hoard it. Except the Universe is actually a place of amazing abundance. There is more than enough pie to go around, in part because we don’t all desire the same kind of pie.
Because so many outside forces work at disempowering us, we are each able to choose to empower ourselves. However, this can often feel like a hell of a challenge.
Personal and impersonal bad news is disheartening. Watching people try to burn the world down for their own selfish reasons is infuriating. This reality, from that perspective, kind of sucks. What happened to kindness, compassion, and basic human decency?
Hence why I need to empower my reality. Rather than keep accepting this garbage from the world around me, knowing I am able to manifest better, I need to work with that. When I empower my reality, I give myself the ability to create something wonderful. Good enough is not good enough, not when I can have more. And when I have more, I will also have more to give.
How will I empower my reality?
The simple answer is that I need to choose to empower my reality. I need to decide that this reality, though good, is not good enough. I need to make myself uncomfortable in a number of ways in order to effect some real change. Break my so-so routines, and develop better, more effective habits.
It is also really important I not berate myself when I do not accomplish the things I want to do. But I know I need to chunk it down better into bite-sized chunks. I need to work on the little bits and pieces that make up the greater sum total. Little things add up, so I need to do better with those.
To truly empower my reality, though, it’s important to be more aware. When I am aware of my here-and-now, I can do a much better job of getting ahold of my thoughts and feelings. In so doing, I can work on being less aggravated by that which is beyond my control, and focus on my personal reality.

How do you Empower your Power?
Empower your power.
Today in America is Independence Day. It was on this day in 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the original 13 colonies. That action birthed a nation that has been both loved and hated across the globe, with ideals of freedom, liberty and independence that would change the greater world around it.
“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
At times this nation has lived up to this, and more. Yet there are dark periods of our history where we have failed to uphold this ideal. I think even the most supportive person of our current government can see that this moment is one of those darker times.
A lot of people currently feel trapped, helpless, angry, and disturbed by what is happening to the nation. What, if anything, can we each do to help? The answer, to my mind, is this – empower your power. You and I have all the power within us to change this world. The power of our leaders is an illusion, as I pointed out the other day, and we can change this all for the better.
Change begins small. It begins with me and you.
Empower your power to choose
We can choose whether or not to move forward and work to create change…or to be mired in the fear, lack, and scarcity engine of this current leadership.
Consciousness creates reality. Against all odds the colonists took on one of the mightiest empires the world had ever known. And they won. They empowered their power, chose not to be a victim of their government, and created a new and ideally amazing nation.
Despite what we are facing today, the Declaration of Independence continues thus, “— That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”
The majority are currently being governed by a minority. But our own founding document says of bad government, “it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government.” Nutjob Alex Jones claimed that the “liberals” would start a civil war today. I am pretty sure that’s not happening in any real reality…but neither will reasonable people be complacent in the face of terrible, abusive, despotic leadership.
Empower your power to change
Each and every one of us can change our small corner of the world. When we take a stand for good, when we work on progress and doing all that we can to make the world a better place, we are empowered.
Our so-called leaders do not like us to be empowered. They hold their power through fear, lack, scarcity, and creating the “other” who will take the scarce resources away and leave nothing. But that is in no way the truth. The Universe is abundant, and all lack and scarcity are artificial creations. As such, they can be changed.
Without guilt, do the things that make you happy. I know a lot of us are conflicted about this holiday this year, but let’s change the meaning of it. Let’s declare our independence from fear, and take charge of creating change. We are all capable of this, and though that often feels like a lie, it is still completely true.
Be who you are. Be as true to yourself as you can be, and do things that make you feel good. It is not selfish or wrong to be empowered, and to have good in your life. Just because you have good does not mean it is at the expense of anyone else. When we each have more, tangible or intangible, we can each give more.
As fictional President Whitmore stated in the movie Independence Day, “’We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on, we’re going to survive.’ Today we celebrate our independence day!” Let this be the rallying cry from which we empower our power to choose, to change, and to make this world a better place.
Empower your power to empower
Each and every one of us can choose our own path in this life, whether it is conventional or otherwise. We have the ability to choose how to feel, how to react, and what thoughts, feelings and intentional actions we use to manifest the world around us.
Through awareness of the now, striving to be conscious of our thoughts and emotions, we can alter the conversation, and use this day to celebrate our independence from fear, from lack and scarcity, and from greed, corruption and narcissism.
We can empower others when we are empowered. Nobody has any control over anybody else, unless they cede it away. By empowering ourselves, we can inspire others to do the same. When we are empowered, we develop the power to empower those around us.

Power is an Illusion?
Power is an illusion.
Most of those who are “in power” have either assumed it, been granted it, or otherwise had it conferred upon them in some form or other. Yet in reality, it is not real. The idea of power is what generates it, and it is a complete and utter intangible.
There is a difference between power and empowerment. Empowerment may also be intangible, but it is feeling. Because it involves feeling, it carries with it a greater ability to build and change. Frequently, empowerment is in regards to the self, and doing more to improve life.
Further, empowerment is an assumption of power on the part of the individual. But empowerment is about making the self feel a sense of confidence and strength, assuming control over self-determination, and working from within.
On the other side of the coin, power tends to be about control over that which is without.
This is why power is an illusion. Because when all is said and done, nobody has true power over anyone nor anything outside of themselves. The only power that is real is over ourselves.
This is what makes the illusion of power a matter of positivity. All of these terrible, so-called leaders who are “in power” right now can be removed from that power. They can be replaced, and we can take away the power they are wielding when we work together to do so.
It is through lack, scarcity and fear that most of these leaders strive to hold power over the collective consciousness. But as we see the cracks in their personalities and see through to their true intentions, their power wains, and we can see we do not need them, and thus empower ourselves and take it back.
Power is an illusion we choose
I know that it is often hard to believe, but we generally choose to see power in the way that we see it all of our own accord. Some of this is because of the collective consciousness, and the need of many to cede control of aspects of their lives. Life is hard, often challenging. Change is constant, but often scary. When we cede power to others in regards to controlling aspects of life and change, it can take away certain burdens. Consciousness creates reality.
Unfortunately, it can also cause unwanted things to be created. When we allow other people far removed from ourselves to dictate what we can and cannot do with our own bodies, whom we can have relations with, and what religions and cultures are good or bad – we disempower ourselves. We feed the lack mentality, and we create competition and discord, which they tend to use in order to hold or gain more power.
But because power is an illusion, we can take it away. When we stand up, speak out, and take actions to effect change, we can cease to allow them power. Recognizing that they only have as much power as we allow them to have, we can change things. History is rife with tons of examples of those in power having it taken from them because the illusion was broken.
That is why this is a matter of positivity. We can fix this, and their power will come to nothing when all is said and done.

How do I Truly FEEL Grateful?
It is my desire to express how grateful I am for many, many things. I am just not feeling it right now.
Why am I not feeling grateful? Because my home country is being taken over by a bunch of ultra-selfish, uncompassionate, self-promoting douchebags-of-holding. Someone in my life continues to disappoint me all-too-frequently. I know I am capable of more in this life, and yet I am my own worst enemy.
Consciousness creates reality. I write about this three times a week. I am working on a new book about this topic to expand my audience. A podcast about awareness and all the interconnected aspects of this notion is forthcoming. Yet despite all of this, genuinely feeling it and expressing the thankfulness for all things tangible and intangible feels pointless.
Low-frequency? Check. Negativity? Check. Unhelpful emotions dominating helpful ones? Check. Feeling down and angry more than up and content? Check. I see the problem. It is right here, in plain sight, completely obvious. Yet I still feel powerless to do anything about it.
I know what I can do with this. More than once I have written about methods for creating change and positivity, attitude shifters, using words to alter consciousness. But despite all of this, and how much I believe it…I am not feeling it right now.
I am grateful for so many things in my life. Me health, my wife, my friends, my home, my hobbies, my writing, my cats, my fencing weapons, and so on and so forth. Truly, I am grateful for it all. But when I try to draw gratitude into my heart and soul, work on giving it feeling…I’m stuck.
It also does not help that as an empath, I feel the pain and distress of so, so many others.
How do I restore that grateful feeling?
The gratitude is there. I am grateful for many, many things. But the grateful feeling, that pleasant, knowing sensation that comes with gratitude, is eluding me.
In no way am I blaming the legitimate pain, distress, fear and anger that friends and associates of mine are currently dealing with. Yes, as an empath I sense and feel what others are experiencing. But because I feel it too, the only outcome of the added vibes is that it amplifies my own distresses.
This is a known issue. So the question I need to find the answer to is, how do I fix it? I may not be feeling it right now, but I AM grateful, and I desire to be capable of expressing that feeling.
It’s like being on the other side of the glass. There it is, right before me. So close I can touch it…but there is glass between us. How do I get through that?
So here’s the extra catch to all this. I have my affirmations, and recognize they can and will help in this matter. But, given the current world situation, it feels completely selfish.
Just wrote about this with Pathwalking. I even said, “Feeling grateful and expressing gratitude is not an act of selfishness.”
Further, I also said, “Being grateful and expressing gratitude is positive. When we develop positivity, we can turn this into a tool to be more proactive, and take steps to effect change. Every single change starts small. It begins with you and me.”
How do I cope with feeling selfish in expressing gratitude? I believe this is a crisis of faith. Do I believe, really believe, that consciousness creates reality? More importantly…do I believe in myself?
Put my “money” where my fingers are
This ties in with the whole notion of surrender. I need to not resist what I can have, and recognize that I am manifesting this life. Living in fear and negativity is a choice. Living in boldness and positivity is a choice. This decision is mine to make. I cannot make it wrong, but the consequences of this choice will either be feeling good or feeling bad.
All the tools are mine. I have been exploring them for years. The decision to push past this dark brooding and feel grateful for the things I am thankful for is wholly up to me. Again, quoting Yoda for the umpteenth time, “Do or Do Not. There is No Try.”
Breathe. Meditate. Repeat the affirmations and mantras. Don’t just say the words, feel them. Tune out the outside influences of the world, focus on being the best me that I can be. Only after I change myself for the better can I do anything at all to change the world. That is selfless act, ergo feeling grateful cannot be selfish.

Can Gratitude Change the World?
It is difficult to feel gratitude in the face of overwhelming unfairness, cruelty and disdain.
Expressing gratitude, however, is a fundamental building block for creating change.
I find the news extremely disheartening. The United States is being led by a petulant, narcissistic man-child and his unscrupulous associates. Long-standing institutions that made the nation a world-leader are being dismantled or massively corrupted. Allies are being alienated. Congress cannot be bothered to do their job and fix this in the name of party cohesion. It’s senseless, infuriating, depressing, and cause for concern.
Those in so-called power are using fear, hate, division and the sewing of discord to destroy the many while propping up a select few. While they have a small, vocal, and frankly well-armed base of support, they are in actuality the minority. Yet resisting and continuing to be inundated with the depths of degradation and negativity we face daily can be massively disheartening.
Because we see so much greed and inhumanity occurring with alarming regularity, the line between desire and greed has become terribly blurred. On that same line, the notions of selfishness and self-care are equally blurred. If you have compassion and empathy it is hard not to feel some guilt when you see all the bad but personally experience good.
Gratitude is never ever a bad thing. It is a matter of positivity, it always builds and never destroys. Saying Thank You, and meaning it, expressing the feeling behind gratitude is a tool for change. When we express how grateful we are for things we have, things we receive, tangibles or intangibles, we empower ourselves, as well as those around us.
In the face of institutionalized disempowerment and disenfranchisement, we need every tool we can get to fix this.
Gratitude is not selfish
Not to put too fine a point on it, feeling grateful and expressing gratitude is not an act of selfishness.
How can I express gratitude when so many people are suffering so horridly? Because feeling grateful for things in no way disempowers anyone else. All those people who are experiencing awful things and suffering do not have their lot in life made worse when you are thankful for things.
I know how hard this is. But consciousness creates reality. When we get focused on all this awfulness around us, we discuss it, we rant about it, we feel terrible seeing it, we inadvertently energize it more.
We are in a reactionary cycle. This horridness we are experiencing is itself in reaction to a changing world that certain people are resistant to, even frightened of. Change is scary. But that does not make it any less inevitable. When we are reactive instead of proactive, it is building on negativity rather than positivity.
Being grateful and expressing gratitude is positive. When we develop positivity, we can turn this into a tool to be more proactive, and take steps to effect change. Every single change starts small. It begins with you and me.
If we allow ourselves to be disempowered, disheartened and overwhelmed by it all, we can do little to change anything. Negativity tends to spiral like water down a drain, inevitably flowing into a massive pool. Drowning in a pool of negativity helps nobody.
Whether it is tangible or intangible things, expressing gratitude is a game changer. It empowers, it builds, it is a tool to manifest a better world. It begins, however, with individuals.
When we are not grateful for what we have, material or immaterial, we haven’t much to work with to gain more.
Gratitude is abundance
Saying thank you, and FEELING thankful is empowering. When you receive genuine thanks, doesn’t it make you feel good? Giving it is equally as powerful as receiving it.
The number of things for which we can be grateful are infinite. Intangibles like air, the power of thought, laughter, joy, and love are no less powerful than the tangibles like sunlight, clean drinking water, coffee, and soft grass beneath your feet. Saying thank you for material tangibles like iPhones, cars, pets, friends and lovers, and anything else you have or desire to have is no more powerful, and an equal matter of partaking of an abundant universe.
Lack, scarcity, and insufficiency are man-made notions used to disempower. Abundance belongs to all of us. Gratitude for the abundance around us and all we are capable of manifesting draws more. When each of us individually feels thankful, and expresses gratitude, we empower. It is with this power that we can change the world.
Stand up for your rights. March in protest of wrongs. Call, write, e mail, and remind the assholes in Congress who they work for. Vote for less-selfish and self-serving assholes in the next election. Raise funds for worthy causes. Blog about proactive actions we can all employ to improve the world we live in.
Say and feel Thank You at least a dozen times today. Empower yourself to change the world for the better.
Do not lose hope, because I assure you, you are most definitely not alone!

How does Thank You Empower Positivity?
Thank you for your support.
While I do this in part for myself, it is knowing that you are out there, reading these words, that helps keep me going. I am so deeply grateful for you, that I need to take a moment to simply say, Thank You.
Gratitude is the ultimate tool in the world of conscious reality creation. Expressing gratitude for what we already possess, not just saying the words but FEELING grateful, will draw more of the best stuff to us.
Modern society tends to get so caught up in minutiae that we forget to say Thank You for the smallest things. Letting that car in on the road, holding the door open, the person at the restaurant who gives us coffee, cashiers at the grocery store…just saying Thank you for their service is a consciousness creator.
We get so focused on the false lack and scarcity of our world that we neglect the importance of saying thank you in general. A simple expression of gratitude will show the universe that we are not just grateful for what we have, but that we desire more of the same.
I know few people who do not desire something more in their life. Money, friends, lovers, followers on Twitter, whatever it may be, there is a desire to have more.
Because of the extreme greed, corruption, and surreal lack of compassion or empathy from those we perceive as having more, it can feel filthy and unfaithful to desire more for ourselves. And this is how they want it.
We live in an abundant universe, not one of lack and scarcity. We deserve and are worthy of more of what we desire, so long as we do no harm in acquiring it. Gratitude is important.
Thank you
There is a lot of weight in these words. They empower conscious reality creation much like “I am” and “I feel” can. Thought, feeling, and intentional action are important to manifestation, but gratitude for both what we have and what we desire matters. Expressing our feelings of gratitude raises our frequency, and draws in more.
I have written about this many times before. But it is so very important that I feel there is no harm in repeating it. On the contrary, emphasizing the importance of gratitude I think can help us all.
No matter if you believe that consciousness creates reality or no, gratitude DOES build positivity. What’s more, it costs nothing to be grateful, just as it costs nothing to be kind, empathetic, and compassionate.
I am grateful for my wife, my friends, my home, my things, sunlight, and my ability to share these words, just to name a few things.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.
Knowing that saying thank you and feeling gratitude is only ever positive, we can use this to raise everyone around us, as well as ourselves, to a higher frequency. When we express gratitude for things great or small, it makes us feel good, and in so doing we ultimately empower ourselves. When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

How Does Surrender Work?
Surrender has always been a challenge for me.
For much of my life, I have been something of a control freak. Over the years that has grown much more subtle, largely because I’ve been working on being more present and aware in the here-and-now.
But I still prefer to be in control. I do the driving, I choose to take less-than-well-traveled paths, and I prefer to be in control of my own destiny.
Unsurprisingly, conscious reality creation is rife with paradox. How? Because while I’m making the choices and decisions about how I desire my life to be, I also have to let go of too many specifics.
This boils down to striking the right balance between taking your thought, empowering it with feeling and then taking intentional action – and just letting it happen. Surrender to the Universe, and let it be done.
Focus on what I desire to manifest, but then, at the same time, surrender to it happening. Have an idea of how I desire the goal to be, but surrender to it being close, but possibly better. Choose and decide to make choices and decisions, but once you have done that, let them go.
This is where I frequently trip myself up. I know what I am thinking about, I give it feeling and seek to take intentional actions…but then I question it, poke at it, keep trying to see it from different angles, rather than just let it be done.
The Secret envisions the process of conscious reality creation and manifestation with ask, believe, and receive. Ask for it, believe it to be, then let it happen. That simple, that to the point.
Every other book I have read or listened to says the same thing. And I have made it work for myself.
To surrender means to accept no other option
When I was recovering from my injuries, after I got hit by a car crossing a street nearly nineteen years ago, I knew only a single outcome. Total, complete healing. I would walk again, have full use of my nerve-damaged right arm, and fence again.
Yes, I pushed and did everything my therapists wanted and more, but I also surrendered to the universe that this was the only outcome there would be. No doubt, no poking at it or questioning it, it simply was how it would be.
Less than a year after the accident I was walking without a limp, my arm was nearly back to normal, and I was fencing again. In no way do I deny that I had absolutely fantastic doctors and therapists working on my recovery, but even they were surprised and delighted by the speed and totality of my healing.
So how come I keep forgetting how to surrender?
I think this boils down to simplicity. In The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, one of my very favorite books, the main character frequently lives for each individual day, even while questing for treasure. Along the way he learns amazing things, about both himself and the world.
In The Alchemist, the secret of alchemy is a few lines of text written on an emerald. And yet, tracts of texts and countless books have been written to explain those simple lines. Rather than read and surrender to what is there, others felt the need to poke at it, question it, and try to better define it.
And this is what it is that I do, rather than surrender. I feel a need to understand, to take it apart, to question the how and the why. And it trips me up.
More often than not, the primary stumbling block I encounter is the how. HOW is this going to work? Most of the time, the answer is going to be, “I do not know.” And that is what it should be. When you are taking steps in your life that you have never taken before, can you possible know the how? You may have a vague understanding or idea, but the specifics are still mysterious.
And this is where surrender comes in. I know the what, I am aware of how it feels, and intentional actions are identified and taken. Once that’s been done, the time has come to surrender to it, and let it happen.
Ask the universe for your thought. Believe and feel how the outcome will be, and take any intentional action that feels appropriate. Then, receive, let the Universe move the parts beyond your comprehension, and make it happen.
Surrender does not work alone
I know that this may seem to some like hooky-spooky mumbo-jumbo. And I acknowledge that you cannot just manifest things out of thin air. However, when there is thought, feeling, and intentional action taken, as I have done before, I can create the reality I most desire to experience.
For me, I need to remember that once I have taken the steps inherent in conscious reality creation, I need to surrender my incessant need to understand, and just KNOW, without doubt or second-guessing, that I have manifested that which I desire.
Meditate more. Be present in the here-and-now. Not easy, and a lot of reprogramming of old thought to be done, but I know I can do this. As always, thank you for crossing the bridges between my worlds with me!

Will You Be Silent?
Do not be silent when you need to shout.
See atrocities happening? Feel angry, distressed, disturbed, incensed? Make your voice be heard, and tell them this will not stand.
We are being bombarded by almost surreal amounts of negativity. There are some pretty terrible things happening out there, and they cannot be ignored. No matter how much we try to stay away from all this bad news, it is impossible not to recognize the awful things that are happening.
Hard to be working on consciously creating my own reality, when it feels so very selfish in the face of this.
While the idea of conscious reality creation might feel selfish, the truth is, it’s not. This is not a selfish act, it is an act of self-actualization. We use making choices about the life we desire to lead as a means to a greater, more empowered end.
When we feel more empowered, we are better able to empower others. Like attracts like, consciousness creates reality.
From a place of empowerment, we can do more to change the world.
I know that this feels untrue. It feels as if putting our own desires in the front might make us no better than our awful, so-called leaders. But because this idea is one built on abundance, rather than lack and scarcity, and because it is not so that we can hoard everything for ourselves while denying good for others – we are not causing more harm.
The US Government is currently sanctioning some terrible things. The deplorable separation of children from their families, withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council, and all the other lies and selfish actions are not something we can be silent about. Resistance is not futile, and it is an ongoing process.
Do not be silent about making change
When we strive to control change in our own lives, we actually better create the ability to change the world around us. However, it’s important to recognize where your change is based, as well as where it is coming from.
One of the primary reasons for the awfulness behind the government’s actions is their use of lack and scarcity to cause fear, so that they can take control. There is not enough to go around, the “other” will take it all away from you, so we need to stop them. That’s the excuse for the ludicrous wall, and these other atrocities. They have “the power” and will do everything they can think of to keep it.
I strive to not get too political with these posts, but I cannot be silent about what I am seeing. Complacency leads to far worse than we have going now. The “other” currently is immigrants in the US. It doesn’t take much for that to shift to you and me for some bullshit reason or other.
I have been working for the past several years on shifting my own mindset to an abundance mentality. Because the truth of it all is that we DO live in an abundant universe. All lack and scarcity are of our own creation. Look more closely at the lack in the world today. Most of it comes from so-called “leaders” of the world disempowering others for their own selfish gains.
If we worked together and showed one another more kindness, rather than fighting over our perceived differences, we could feed the world, power the world, and advance far beyond where we are now.
Utopian idea on my part? Maybe. But do you really prefer how we approach this now?
Do not be silent from fear
Fear is an incredible weapon. Those in power love to employ fear in order to hold and grow their power. We practically bathe in it as a society.
This is why we cannot be silent. There are plenty of people who buy into the fear that our so-called leaders are selling. No matter how much we show them how awful this truly is, they have bought it, and think the rest of us are nuts to think otherwise. The fear has wrapped them in a down comforter, and they will not unwrap from the familiar and comforting cocoon.
The only people we can change is ourselves. However, when we change for the better, we often inspire those around us to do the same. If we think, feel and act in fear and from a place of lack and scarcity, is it any surprise we just get more? This is why we not only cannot be silent, but we need to better recognize coming from a place of abundance, and thinking, feeling and acting in confidence and encouragement.
While we work on manifesting better personal realities, we also can call and write the government, vote in the elections, march in the protests, and work together to make positive change. When we show them that we will not live in fear, and that the world is truly abundant, we can create a better world for everyone.
Never be silent when you need to shout
The frustration, disappointment and disgust with what is happening to the United States is something I need to express. If I keep holding it in, it’s going to just stress me out. When I stress out, I get depressed, and that will not allow me to manifest any good for myself, let alone anyone else.
We need to be aware of what is happening, but we also need to have balance. We need to be in the know, but not inundated by all the negativity of it. Be mindful, and work more on being in the here-and-now, because this is the place from which we can best control and create change and personal growth.
Unsurprisingly, this is a challenge. But together, we can do this.
