There Are No Tomorrows
There are no guarantees that you will show up tomorrow. It’s not an absolute certainty. There are a lot of people who have not made it to today.
So you have to believe that there are no tomorrows. In this world, there are so many reasons to pass off the dreams of today for the more attractive and alluring prospect of tomorrow. Tomorrow sounds pretty great when you are tired, sore and ready to veg-out. Tomorrow is a great thing to believe in, but you can get easily caught in continuing to dream days ahead without acting in the only moments you only have.
These moments build those dreams. Without them, the dreams will never happen.
“If you want a thing bad enough to go out
and fight for it,
to work day and night for it,
to give up your time, your peace and your sleep for it…
if all that you dream and scheme is about it,
and life seems useless and worthless without it…
if you gladly sweat for it and fret for it and plan for it
and lose all your terror of the opposition for it…
if you simply go after that thing you want
with all of your capacity, strength and sagacity,
faith, hope and confidence and stern pertinacity…
if neither cold, poverty, famine, nor gout,
sickness nor pain, of body and brain,
can keep you away from the thing that you want…
if dogged and grim you beseech and beset it,
with the help of God, you will get it!”
- Les Brown
I’m a dreamer – if you haven’t figured that out by now well…yikes. I love to dream. I love to sketch plans. I love to draw them out on the huge blackboard in my room. I love to try to peer ahead and figure out where I am headed and how to best get there. But I’ve learned one lesson that really put me in my place about a year ago.
You have to earn the right to constantly dream.
Anyone can dream – yes, of course. This is different though. I don’t say earning the right as in you have to be given this ability by someone or something. I say earn the right as in…giving your dreams the respect they deserve. I am convinced that nothing in this world needs more nurturing and protection.
The one thing that perfectly attaches itself to a dream is action. Those are the stepping stones that allow you to earn the right to dream. What I mean is that you have to be fully aware of the fact that if you dream without putting any sort of action behind it, you will singlehandedly destroy those same dreams. Earning the right is about being a man or a woman who can think of a grand idea in which the world can benefit from and then being willing to put it into action. If you haven’t earned the right to constantly dream, you will be living too far forward of this moment and you will waste your life away just as if you were living in the past.
You can make yourself just as miserable dreaming as you can by living in the bad events of the past.
Like I said before, I figured that out last year. I dreamed too much and didn’t act on those same dreams enough. It yielded me nothing but a graveyard of dead and dying dreams…and I promise you, that’s a really tough thing to see.
So dream. But ACT. If you aren’t willing to act, then be prepared to see your dreams sift through your fingers like sand.
There are no tomorrows

How To Fell A Giant
I hate to say it, but fear is usually stronger than you. So if you don’t come ready to fight for what you believe in, you are going to lose to it. There is only one way to fell a giant.
Eric Thomas has this fantastic speech where he talks about the fact that if you strike at a tree in 1,000 different places, what will happen? Nothing. But if you strike at a tree a thousand times in the exact same place…that tree will fall.
The exact same thing is true of your dreams. You have to strike and strike again without doubt and have nothing but pure vigilance in seeing it all the way through. That’s the only way I finally crossed one of the greatest milestones of my life. And now, I am ready to go back at it again starting tomorrow morning for another 12 weeks. I am ready to build upon the foundation that I have already built and see what else I am capable of.
Why? Because I know that I am capable of more than what I’ve done.
I know I have more in the tank and can bring something better to the table each and every single time I do this. They say it takes years to finally build the physique you want – and honestly, I’m willing to make that sacrifice. I’m willing to make the sacrifice because it not only helps me mentally but physically as well.
I have struck over and over at this vision of mine, and I have accomplished goals, but the vision has yet to be achieved. So I must because I can.
I’ll always remember that statement – you must because you can. We are each capable of so much and yet we do not because of one reason or another. We must. We must give our gifts to the world – it should be no other way.
Choice is a tough thing to realize.
A vast majority of the time we have the ability to choose during the situation in front of us. We must never forget that those choices are ours and our responsibility. They are no one elses. When you start to understand that most of your life is completely your own responsibility, you open up the doors of being able to change your world completely. Instead of being the victim you become the captain.
So make the choice to be the king of your world

Leaving A Legacy Instead Of A Liability
No accidents. What do I mean? I mean…develop your plan to the point where your actions will yield your end goal instead of leaving things up to chance. What legacy will you leave?
Take the chance out of it. Well, take as much chance out of it you possibly can. There’s always going to be a little bit of uncertainty when you set out on your path. That’s the fun in it. Things are going to go really right and there will be times where you are tested more than you could imagine. But a strong plan always yield far greater results than going into something completely blind.
The arrogance we have to believe that we can just call it in and do incredible things.

.snp-pop-10710 .snp-newtheme1 { background: url('http://thebettermanprojects.com/wp-co...') no-repeat scroll 50% 50% transparent; }
I used to be arrogant like that. Now, after understanding what it actually takes to achieve what I want, I have more lists and plans and maps than I ever did before.
That’s the nature of this game. If you aren’t writing things down and understanding what you are getting from your day, how will you be able to look back on your life and understand the progress you have made? It makes it much much harder to understand your own personal growth if there’s only mental evidence of it (this type of evidence can even play tricks on us).
You have to take it all the way down to the smallest daily actions. Those disciplines you invoke will test you and be tough at first, but once you arrive at where you are headed they will have become more of your philosophy than anything. For me, that was waking up at 4:30 every morning for 8 weeks – a routine I know creates the greatest possibility for success and something I will continue to do. These disciplines included planning my days, using my calendar, writing everything down, blogging every single day, stretching, cleaning, keeping myself as organized as possible, and committing to building my dream every day. These things were hard at first, but as time went on, they became part of my routine and eventually part of me.
Seeing “possibility” is a very interesting thing. After thinking about this for a long time and testing out the waters, I think that the ability to “see possibility” and then shorten the amount of time it takes for you to put those thoughts into action is quite an impressive characteristic to have. This is something I definitely admire in others and I seek to build for myself.
Something else I really admire and I’m working on pretty hard is being able to focus all of my energies down to a single task until it is accomplished. My mind has always wandered quite a bit but I’m looking for and practicing ways to bring myself into ultimate focus. This means focusing as much on writing this blog right now as I can. It’s going well if you are wondering.
Oh the future and how bright it looks. But can you actually bring yourself into such a state of visualization that you can actually see yourself in the future you have created? I have these moments when I am watching things or listening to tapes – it takes me to where I want to be. When I’m there, I try to feel as much of it as I can. I try to bring in the smells and sights as much as possible because I know if I can make it so real in my mind that it will go to work on creating that.
Sounds out there – but I’ve done this before. In fact, I did this with my fitness. I visualized eating healthy foods and developing a body that I was proud of, and this certainly came into good use when I was struggling towards the end due to absolute exhaustion.
Our minds and our ability to create our futures are often not given enough credit. But once you figure out that you can develop a life that you are proud of and begin living your dreams, well, worlds morph and change around you.
I am in the process of going to work on all of my other dreams now knowing I am fully capable of creating them. That wasn’t necessarily the case before, but now it’s a mission instead of a prayer.
I kind of like that – mission instead of a prayer.
Yeah.
So what will you make of this life? People say that YOLO is a pretty stupid saying, and to some extent I agree…but it really does have an amazing message – “You only live once.” Some people don’t live at all. I don’t want that for myself. I know that I have to do as much as I can in the time that I have here.
It’s about leaving a legacy instead of a liability.
I’m off to create

“One day, you’re going to burn the whole f’ing forrest down.” – R.W.
How much can I give? How much can I put out there and how much can I pour it on every single day?
These are the questions that I have been asking myself lately. I’ve been wondering what else I have in the tank. What I have found is that you are always capable of just a little bit more than you could imagine. These moments come to me quite often where I think I’m going to break but I somehow find a way to push out a little more effort. What is that? What is that space called between your mind failing but your spirit holding you up for more?
Maybe that’s just the nature of the spirit itself?
That quote above was said on the phone last night during one of the most phenomenal conversations I have had with one of my best friends. I was telling him about being truly humbled and proud for finally achieving such a long term goal, and for the first time in my life, seeing that I could go out and achieve whatever I wished to. I went on to talk about what I had planned for myself next and what the visions of the future were – how I was going to attack those visions – and how I can use a format that really works for me.
Then he said those words.
They weren’t in the context of actually burning down a forrest, but in terms of setting ablaze this world with passion and something deep within.
You see for a long time I have felt that I have set controlled fires in my life in a few different areas. I started with The Better Man Project, added in fitness, added in my social media presence, added in professional life coaching…and these were all little fires that were burning steadily. As I went forward and finally accomplished one of my dreams, a couple of those fires suddenly caught some extra brush and wind and began to light up more. But somewhere deep inside I can feel that one day – all of those fires will come together and everything is going to join in a roaring burn.
Am I doing all that I can in order to bring those fires together?
I have some more in the tank. But what I’ve realized is that more planning is in order – more calendar usage – a more structured type of living to bring these things out. While the moments are creative in themselves, more discipline is necessary to make that a reality.
When you reach something you have been striving for…it changes…everything.
It makes you believe. It changes the way you see dreams as well. I can honestly say that the pain of losing baseball disappeared from the me second I crossed the finish line. That is something I never thought I would be able to say. But now, I have to go out there and see what else I can create for myself. I have to travel down the other paths I wished to see for myself all these years.
Time to burn it all down.

Two Wolves is a search into understanding the perfect balance of life – light & dark, happiness & sadness, success & failure and many more topics. It is also a look into the greatest lessons I have learned over the past 4 years of writing for The Better Man Project.
I had an absolute blast writing this book and think that anyone who wants to read about another perspective from someone who is journeying towards their dreams should open it up.
Hope you enjoy it

The One Thing You Can Make It Through 100% Of The Time
100% of the the time I have made it through bad days. 100%.
Ah the essence of the bad day. You know, that day where everything seems to just constantly go wrong. One thing after the next after the next and it becomes a never ending crapstorm of ill-fated events.
I have my days, but I try my best to keep them from turning into days. There’s two ways I keep my bad moments from turning into bad days.
1. Bad moments are just moments – I found out a long time ago and with the help of a coach that the moment itself is bad, that doesn’t mean your entire life is bad. If you can realize that the moment is what is challenging you then you can make a decision about what you want to do next. Yes, there will be some horrible things that happen to us…but everything after that and the way you see it is up to you. Your interpretation of what something means is created by you – you can change that. Your decisions coming from that interpretation will arise because you see a certain situation a specific way. I know it can be hard at times, but always keep in the back of your mind that if you change the way you view something, your actions will change and therefore your results will as well.
2. Slow the game down – Baseball taught me many many lessons, but this one is on a whole different level than the others. The importance of slowing the game down when it is snowballing on you is probably the most important thing you can do as a pitcher. When you start throwing balls and walking people and then there are a few hits, well, things can get mentally taxing. Literally your mind starts racing and you play outside of yourself until you get back on track again. The best pitchers know when to walk off the mound, find a spot out in the outfield or stands and recenter themselves. Breathe…breathe…breathe…[insert positive mental talk and strategy here] breathe…ok let’s go get em’.
You can do that with life. Life plays an even more complex game than baseball. You have to be able to step off the mound once in a while and get back to your center. If you can do that in life, you have a far less chance of having those moments when you lose yourself. I’ve had a couple of those this past month where I have let a situation speed up on me and forgot that the entire game starts with my movements into the windup. Everything in my entire world starts functioning off of my first move. That’s not out of selfishness, but rather a realization that everything stops or everything goes in my life specifically when I make a decision.
That’s how much power we have over our realities. Yes, if you shut it all down right now there may be some negative consequences – but you could do it. If you decided to act with overwhelming courage and not let fear get in your way…just think of the amazing things you could accomplish.
100% of the time you have made it through those awful moments.
100% is a pretty hard % to beat. I am sure there are moments that felt like you would never make it out alive – but you did. I am sure there are times where you failed to see any light in the room – but eventually that flicker showed up. Be careful of how you use your language during the times I’m which you feel like you are down. Your language and how you describe something can actually make it more real, and therefore inexplicably harder to escape from. Why do you think a lot of famous writers were blackout alcoholics? Words make things more real.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
I’m sure you’ve read that somewhere before. Well, isn’t at least part of our comfort zone the land of the negative? You see life works in incredibly balanced ways and give you a dose of the positive and the negative quite often. Understand that your comfort zone will be tested and those situations where you feel out of whack – well you can grow from those.
Be in constant learning about yourself.

The 4 Year Anniversary | The Better Man Project
4 years ago I made a decision to sit down and write about my journey to become a better person and all of the lessons I would learn along the way. Today marks the 4 year anniversary of The Better Man Project and besides being overwhelmed with every emotion in the book, I am trying to find the right words for this post.
I guess I will have to say this. We all strive for greatness during the “light” times of our life – it’s incredibly easy to dream and be kind during these times. But as we enter into the dark, we truly find ourselves and who we are down to the core. We begin to understand that the darkness is there to teach us to appreciate the light in the stars and to also give us an opportunity to dig into our faith. Without sight, it becomes awfully hard to see our end vision. There is no time that will challenge that vision and your faith more than when it is pitch black in your life. But if you believe in yourself and what you are capable of, you will see the light again.
Begin your journey of self discovery. Begin that journey because you know you are capable of so much and you could bring the world a whole lot more.
I am incredibly thankful I made that choice 4 years ago today.
I also want to say thank you to everyone who has supported The Better Man Project. Without you, the vision wouldn’t have changed and I wouldn’t have stretched myself to understand what it truly means to care sincerely about communities of people. This community here has answered the call many times when I have cried for help and has lifted me when I had trouble walking. Thank you for being a unbelievably huge driver in my life and making me a better man.
To the next 4 years…and the many years after that.
