Seven Questions : May 2016 : Sydney Scrogham

My Seven Questions author feature has been on hiatus, but it is not forgotten! Gettingit back into full throttle with a May edition, I welcome the lovely Sydney Scrogham, whose new contemporary fantasy about overcoming a difficult past–and flying unicorns!–is coming out in June. Her book is Ariel: The First Guardian. When she’s not writing, Sydney is at the barn with her horse, Snowdy, or she’s catching up on reruns of the best TV show ever–Castle. Sterling Pre-Order & Cover Reveal

You may be interested to know this tidbit about all the T0B&L covers: each one has a dominant color, which is the color of the narrator’s aetherlight. Readers of the series will know that aetherlight is sort of like one’s aura, th...

Slug Magazine Interview

About a month ago I spoke with Davey Davis, who–among other myriad projects– writesfor the Utah-based SLUG magazine. The magazine features music, bikes, extreme sports, and other underground badassery. This particular issue is the BIKE ISSUE, so if you have an interest in the wheeling life, check out the many interesting articles there.

I originally connected with Davey through a program called The CloversProject, which is a support/mentoring project for writers at different stages of their c...

May 2016 Goals

I think I’ve been posting my monthly goals for at least a year, possibly longer. It helps me stay on track with what I aim to do–especially because I have a tendency to drop everything every so often to chase a plot bunny.

Last month I aimed to:

Finish MAGE & SOURCErevision.CHECK–although I still haven’t figured out how to untangle some major problems with how to tell this particular story, and the thought of having anyone read it still makes me cringe. I shall persevere and trust that solut...

The first of the month flew by me and I almost forgot to make a goals post. Here it is later, but better than never.

Line Edit and Global Edit. Check, though I finished the line edit by the skin of my teeth today. Mage & Source Revision. In progress, and going swimmingly but I’m swimming in...

The Made-Up Words of The Velocipede Races

This morning I got a question on my blog about one of the made up words in The Velocipede Races, which made me think about made-up words in general. I admit I have a tendency to make up words; it’s part of the tendency to make up worlds. When you design an alternate world, naturally (it seems to me) you need new words to describe parts of that new society that are different from ours.

In the case of the The Velocipede Races, one of the reasons I made up words was so that I didn’t end up basing...

March Goals

Last month my goals were:

Check! The boxed set will be available through the end of March. Promote and sell The Velocipede Races. I feel like I earned about half a check on this one. I did manage to unload about 10 of my author copies...
