Why Fiction Is Important

The Velocipede Races is the first full-length young adult novel that EllyBlue/Microcosm plans to publish. It’s part of the Bikes in Space series that includes three volumes of sci-fi bicycle-themed short stories. Volumes two and three feature stories by me. Check them out here and here. Publishing a young adult novel represents a bit of a departure for Elly Blue/Microcosm, which is known for shorter works, zines, and non-fiction.

This is one reason I’m excited about the Kickstarter project to...

Thank you!

Wow. I was feeling anxious leading up to the Kickstarter for The Velocipede Races,so it’s been really gratifying to watch the first week fly by and to see that we’ve already reached the initial goal of the project. So technically, the project is funded, and the book will be published. Hooray! And Huzzah! for my UK backers. I know there are a few.

SO many thanks to everyone who has already backed the project. My inbox has been full of emails telling me you’ve backed it—and every time I get one...

On Velocipedes and Microcosms

I am excited to announce that the Microcosm/Elly Blue Publishing Kickstarter for my book, The Velocipede Races has finally begun! And let’s face it, I’m also terrified. The success of this Kickstarter is extremely important to the eventual printing and publication of my book, my baby, my first novel to be produced and published by someone other than me.

I’m planning a series of blog posts this month all about The Velocipede Races, the Kickstarter, and bicycles. This first one will answer a qu...

October Goals

Another fast, busy month has flown by. I got a lot done in September and I’m hoping to get even more done in October.

Last month I planned to:

New writing:This one was easily accomplished, and I enjoyed working on whatever I felt like without forcing myself to focus on any particular manuscript, so I think I’ll continue with that next month.

Continue ToB&L Book Four structuring.I’ve been slowly working on this difficult project all month. Talk about killing darlings! There is a lot that has t...

September 2015 Goals

It’s the last day of August, and it must be time to review goals and make new ones. I had a very productive month of August, although my plans shifted around a little thanks to new book-making news.

In August I planned to:

1) Do new writing: Yes. I got ToB&L 7 to a reasonable stopping point, and now I need to really get to work on the giant plot knot tangle of the endings of the final 4 books.

2) 4-5 Pilates blog posts: Check! I posted a total of six times to the new Pilates blog, mostly exer...

What I Learned While Writing The Gantean

TGCOVER

As you all know, my book, The Gantean, is now available on Amazon. To celebrate its two-month anniversary, I’m posting this essay I wrote to myself a while back while I was trying to figure out why I was still working on The Gantean after so many years of struggling with it.

I started writing an epic fantasy novel when I was twelve. I recall that I did it just after reading Mary Stewart’s The Wicked Day, which was a paperback lying around the bookshelves at home. Like most fantasy books of t...

The Velocipede Races on Goodreads

alsonice

My quasi-historical sports-action femme-punk book, The Velocipede Races, is now on Goodreads. You can add it to your “want to read” or “read” lists to help spread the word about it, or vote for it on various lists. For those of you who don’t know, I originally published TVR through Luminous Creatures Press, but it has since been picked up by Elly Blue Publishing/Microcosm. This new editis slated for release in April 2016, complete with three new chapters and an epilogue!

If you read and revi...
