New Feature: Deleted Scenes

I do a lot of rewriting in my books.I’m fully rewriting two drafts right now, the draft for Mage & Source and the draft for Light & Shadow.Three issues had presented themselves in my original drafts for thelast fourbooks in the Tales of Blood & Light Series. The first was a relationship between two characters that was problematic; the second was a deep timeline issue; the third was the fact that the last four books were all telling the same events from different points of view and thus the st...

January 2017 Goals

I ushered out 2017 with a big, long migraine headache yesterday, during which I accomplished very little. I meant to make some progress on one of my December goals and that did not happen. I can’t say I’m sad to see 2016 go–towards the end there it felt like a real slog. There have been many external world issues that have intruded on my writing mindthis year, especially this winter, mostlyin the form of mental depression, although the noisy construction project next door hasn’t helped, eithe...

My Best Reads of 2016

Every year, I try to read one hundred books. I’ll be closing out this year with a total of 103. Below I’ve listed my top ten, the ones that most stuck with me and moved me. My top reads this year were almost unfailingly harrowing and dark, possibly a sign of the times?

Here are a few diagnostics on my reading, as I do like to keep track of my reading diversity lest I slip into bad reading habits.

Fiction vs. non-fiction: 79/21

Poetry: 3

Male authors vs. female: 31/70

Multi-author anthologies:...

December Goals

Though my goal list appeared short for November, it was actually a really tough and time-consuming list, since I meant to write an entire book (with Tamara Shoemaker) in one month, not to mention continue writing a different book on my own. I stayed very busy. I’m planning to take on a lot for December, too.

In November my goals were:

Continue ToB&L Book 5 revision. CHECKI didn’t get quite as far as I’d hoped, but I did make some good progress. NANOWRIMO CHECKTamara and I completed our novel,...

November Goals

As I sit down to write my November Goals, I am struck by how very dark it is outside. We’ve had rain for almost a week here in Northern California, a feat that hasn’t occured in years, and I find the dark, wet mornings are perfect for writing. They make me feel quite inspired. I wish this weather could go on for longer! Alas, both the darkness and the wetness will go, as we changeour clocks next weekend and the weather pattern is already shifting.

My October Goals were:

ToB&L Book 5 revisio...

October Goals

Well, for the first time in a while, I really underperformed on my goals. I have no excuse, except that goal number one took me much longer than I expected this month. In other news, my Imitrex prescription has been a life-saver, allaying six migraines in the month of September!

My goals for September were:

Work on ToB&L Book 4revision. CHECK. I finished this yesterday, on the final day of the month. Finish ToB&L Book 6 revision. No check–didn’t even begin. Begin ToB&L Book 5 revision. No ch...

September 2016 Goals

August was a good month of writing and working for me. I also possibly made a big break through on a problemthat often eats up my writing hours: migraine headaches.I am trying the most common prescription medication again (Imitrex) after years of using alternative solutions that all either failed (various diets, herbs, remedies) or made matters much worse (acupuncture). At any rate, so far I’ve fully aborted two out of three headaches with Imitrex, which feels pretty miraculous after twenty y...
