Fate’s Fables is part of the New Prague High School student “Project Read-A-Lot”
When high school teacher, Brittany Elsen, contacted me about her school’s Project Read-A-Lot program, I was thrilled to donate some copies of Fate’s Fables.
Finding it difficult to get students reading, New Prague High School came to the conclusion that “the best route to igniting a passion for reading among their students was through their peers.” The program works by having students write book reviews and do at least one book talk. Apparently the program is a great success. The sign up sheets are full and the number of student reviewers continues to grow.

Want to know how I come up with my ideas?
Check out my guest post on Worlds of the Imagination to see how I generated some of the ideas for Fate’s Fables whenever they ran low. And here’s a little secret I didn’t share in the article. When my tried and true methods for coming up with ideas don’t work, I use this bottled light. That’s just between you and me of course. Now don’t tell anyone, but you can get your own bottled light on Etsy.

My first editorial review – FIVE stars for Fate’s Fables from Readers’ Favorite!
I’m not sure if I’ll ever get used to that jittery, excited, trepidation I’m always filled with whenever I’m notified of a review. When I saw the Readers’ Favorite notice in my inbox, I grew doubly nervous because this was my first editorial review. I’m not sure how long my finger hovered over the mouse before I clicked on the link, but it felt like an eternity. I could’ve cried, not from relief when I laid eyes on Tania Staley’s review, but from the pure joy of reading such a glowing, well written review. Thank you Tania, wherever you are!

I met a real life mermaid at the Richmond Maritime Festival!
Steveston is a pretty magical place. The village is not only scenic and full of charm, it’s where my favorite TV show Supernatural is often filmed, as well as the fantasy hit, Once Upon A Time. AND it’s where Fate’s Fables is being sold at Village Books and Coffee House. So it kind of came as no surprise that I should meet a mermaid at the Maritime Festival. Her name is Oceana and she’s as close to the real thing as you’re going to meet. She really swims!
If you’ve read Fate’s Fables, then you know there’s a mermaid in my first fable, The Lonely Sorceress. I’ve been working on my Pinterest board for this fable. Have a look if you’re curious to see which pictures matched my imagination.

The stakes are much higher for Thor in this totally epic Dark World movie trailer

I enjoyed the first Thor movie, but I wasn’t overly excited about it. However, the newly released movie trailer for the sequel looks over the top! A new villain threatens to plunge the universe back into darkness (bringing much epic destruction), Thor is forced to ally with his crafty brother Loki (an interesting character I’m glad has returned) and the romance with Jane Foster heats up (every good movie has a love story).

Very cool, I got a nice mention in today’s Fresh Fiction article!
I had the pleasure of meeting Rosie Bindra from Fresh Fiction at Local Teen Author Night at Chapters last month and she just released her article on her conversations with myself, Amanda Sun, Elsie Chapman and Jeyn Roberts. Check it out.

I saw Pegasus today. And so can you.
I was out for a sunny stroll down on Granville Island today when a mechanical winged horse caught my attention. Being the fantasy geek that I am and a huge fan off all winged creatures––just ask Sithias––I knew this whimsical piece of art was Pegasus right away, and of course I had to investigate its surprising presence immediately. I had the pleasure of meeting J.C., one of the designers for Arts Club Theatre, and learned that Pegasus has been brought back to life to aid charity efforts for Hannah’s Heroes. Within the next week, the mythical beast will flap its wings for anyone who donates to this worthy charity. You can find Pegasus on display at Railspur Alley on Granville Island for the remainder of the summer.
