Interview with Samara King Author of Sweeter Than This
Welcome to Friends on Friday. Today I’m talking with Samara King about her new release Sweeter Than This.
What was the inspiration behind this book?
I wanted to convey the message that love conquers all, no matter where your start came from or mistakes. I believe that Sweeter Than This delivers that statement well.
Which character spoke to you the most while you were writing this book or which you’re your favorite?
Okay, I’m torn here (lol) for different reasons both characters did: Elle, for her tough exterior, but soft inner makeup. As a cop she wore her job but when you get right down to it, she’s a woman who needs love like the rest of us. And I have to say Durant as well, for his passion and though he has a shadowy past, he believed enough in love to take the risk.
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
When I was in 8th grade, I started writing. Believe it or not, I would sneak to the back of the library with Harlequin romances and get to the “good” parts—I guess this should have been a clue that I would be a future erotic romance author. J
Tell us about your favorite atmosphere for writing.
I absolutely love when I have some soul-moving music on, chocolate (say like Reese’s buttercups because those are my absolute favorites) and candles. It’s a very peaceful setting, as I lay on my couch, I avoid my desk for some reason, feels too formal I guess.
Tell us about your “discipline” for writing. Are you consistent – writing at the same time every day or do you write in spurts and stops? How do you balance writing with the rest of your life?
Well, I have been known to do 90/10 rule, where you work for 90 minutes and take a 10 minute break or also setting a daily word count of about 3600 words also makes me feel very accomplished. I haven’t managed to write at the same time of day, though I do prefer early mornings or mornings, because it truly is the time you don’t have to answer to anyone or rush. So as for balance, I am learning to once again guard those early mornings as writing time.
Do you have a project in the works that you’d like to tell us about?
I am currently working on several projects from my self-publish novella imprint, Blush, sexy reads for those who like a story they can finish in a day’s time. The first release will be Taking It Off, the heroine was formerly overweight and has fought her way into a new love and new passion by chance when she does a boudoir shoot. I am also working on a paranormal series entitled Scarlet Ties and co-writing a hip mystery entitled Mama Has A Brand New Bag. But to keep updated on my future projects please visit my website at: http://samaraking.com and my blog, Characters Behaving Badly at: http://charactersbehavingbadly.com.
What is your favorite way to promote one of your books?
I am a big fan of Twitter, I just enjoy the quick pace of it and the talented artists, writers, editors, photographers—you name it I’ve come in contact with.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I love to watch movies, read, dance and just meditate sometimes for some quality down time.
Are you an introvert or an extravert?
I’m a bit of both depending of the environment and who else is around. If it’s me and my friends, then we are our normal crazy selves.
What food or drink could you not live without?
This varies but I have to say coffee, sweet and with hints of cinnamon I totally find divine.
What is something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
I was born at 3lbs and survived, so I take that lesson with me through my life that I count myself very fortunate and can face anything!
BLURB:
With her best friend murdered, the man believed to be partly responsible under the nose of her gun and a stranger looming in the shadows out for blood, Officer Elle Taylor is running out of time and people to trust. Will Elle risk crossing the line between attraction and revenge to take help from an unexpected source, before the murderer strikes again and leaves her life in flames?
Durant Kane is no stranger to trouble, especially the kind that comes with a gun trained on his face and an angry woman attached. But Elle’s something different, something unexpected and sweeter. He never could have imagined coming to feel so deeply about her, even if his own disastrous path in relationships hadn’t left him so wary. But he’ll have to take the risk if he doesn’t want to lose the woman he’s come to realize he can’t even think of living without.
EXCERPT. Everyone had a guilty pleasure. Some gave in once and could walk away afterward. Others became a slave to it. Given the wicked spasms pulsating between Officer Elisha “Elle” Taylor’s thighs, the deciding factor of which side she fell on was clear.
Seeing Durant Kane again cracked open her wall of defense. Elle gritted her teeth as she waited on her coffee. Her usual early morning joint was filled with commuters and the normal hum of conversations and steady traffic. Her gaze traveled slowly over the handsome man standing at the entrance of the diner. His golden skin, brilliant blue eyes hinting at wise-cracking cynicism, and cropped blond hair gave him the air of a playboy. Sophistication and confidence defined every move he made.
The shrewd gleam Elle knew oh so well in his baby blues matched his smooth-talking ways. Although it hadn’t taken much talking for her to end up in his bed. The dark designer suit lined his tall, muscular frame with contemporary style, as did the black, quarter-length coat he was shrugging out of. She noted that same potency registered with several of the men Durant stood with as he gazed occasionally at traffic. They seemed intent on his every word. She was addicted to him in all the ways that shouldn’t matter to a cop, but as a full-blooded woman–that was a different story.
Look away!
Elle turned to him just as Durant looked in her direction, a slow smile tugging at the corner of his lips. She faced the counter. Where the hell is that coffee? She needed to be on the road, and not recounting the ways he’d made her come a year ago. Knowing he still had the ability to captivate her attention made her blood boil. Lines had been crossed, dotted, and underlined in Durant’s company.
Guilty pleasures… Elle knew of them; she was experiencing one right now. The swipe of his tongue across his lips made her stomach clench. She balled her fist. Moments later, she felt the brush of his hand graze her lower back. She didn’t dare turn around, and with the steady stream of people roaming the diner, no one would notice that Durant was standing inappropriately close behind her. The heat from his breath fanned the back of her neck.
“Excuse me, Officer. So rude of me to reach over you.” He leaned forward, grabbing a menu.
“I should shoot you.”
She could hear the smile in Durant’s whispering voice. “A pleasure to see you as well, Elle.”
She raised her eyebrows, despite the sexual intensity spreading throughout her body. “I doubt your associates would see it that way.”
Durant chuckled. “That’s why they’re waiting outside.” The sound of his laughter was rich and filling, just as he’d been when their bodies had intertwined.
Elle squeezed her thighs, standing stiffly. “Perfect, a henchman who does delivery.”
“I try to be as accommodating as possible to my employees and otherwise.”
Elle grunted. “Is that what you’re calling it these days?”
“There are many names I have for what I want to do to you.” He moved closer, the hard muscles of his chest pressed against her back. An innocent onlooker would only see a man perusing the menu and not the sensual heat ricocheting between them.
Durant snaked his right hand to the side of her waist, over her belly, and tugged her backward. Her ass brushed his erection. “What’s good here?” he said against her ear, inhaling her scent.
“Get your hands off me.” Elle’s eyes fluttered for a moment before she pushed away, only to feel his hand clamp tightly against her. Her body responded swiftly, and her clit quivered wildly. She bit her lip to stop from moaning out loud. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. “Damn you! If I scream–”
“If you scream, it’ll be a sound I’ve been longing to hear,” he replied huskily.
“Officer? Your coffee. We threw in a couple of chocolate glazed donuts for the wait.”
Durant edged back, pretending to be intent on the menu.
Elle jerked away from his intimate lock and turned her attention to the cashier, flashing a smile. “Thanks.” The caffeine would do little to smooth over the tumultuous emotions rumbling within her.
She turned to find Durant’s eyes glowing. “If you ever try something like that again, I will shoot you, Kane.” She maneuvered around him, wanting to put as much distance between them as possible.
He looked over his shoulder. “You never told me what was good.”
“I would think the fact that you are still standing.”
Once outside, Elle closed her eyes. The cold winter air drowned out the heated vibrations and her frayed nerves. Fortunately it was the end of her shift. The attraction she’d felt for him hadn’t gone any damn place. The realization slapped her firmly upside her head.
Did you really think it would go away?
It was not normal to feel like this, to act like some wanton teenager. It was definitely not her customary “love ’em and leave ’em before attachments could be made” style. She had stayed away from Durant since that night. Being around him clouded her judgment. Yet his heated gaze had reeled Elle in, reawakening a forbidden desire that not only threatened her sanity but her job.
He stoked something deep within her, a fire she hadn’t yet learned to tame. The tremors coursing through her body must be payback for the dormancy. There was a higher price to be paid if she gave in to her cravings. The forbidden truth was she’d never felt more alive.
Elle opened the door to her cruiser. They lived in two separate worlds, and nothing would change that. Sleeping with the enemy was dangerous; none of her training had prepared her for a skilled criminal like Durant Kane.
* * * *
“Hello, Honey,” a digitized voice whispered into the receiver. “Or should I call you…Mother?”
Alaina Taylor frowned in confusion at the mention of her old nickname. “Who is this?” It wasn’t her daughter, Elisha. Her only child would not play on the phone. Her hand tightened around the cord. At the caller’s silence, Alaina asked again, “I said, who’s calling?”
“Your child.”
A chill swept through Alaina’s body at the venom in the stranger’s voice. “I don’t have time for your foolishness.” Her heartbeat sped up. It couldn’t be, she thought. No, this is someone’s sick idea of a joke and nothing more. After all this time, she refused to think there was any other possibility. That life was dead. Gone. She couldn’t relive that pain. Never again.
“Whoever this is, you have the wrong number. Do not call here again.” Alaina started to hang up, but the laughter on the other end stopped her.
“You think it’s that easy, bitch? You ruined my life.”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about. How did you get this number?” Alaina sagged down into the couch. “I don’t know what sick game you’re playing, but–”
“Game? I guess you could put it that way. You certainly played with my life.”
“I told you, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Why are you doing this? I’m hanging up–”
“No! You listen very carefully, Honey. You may not know me, but you will. I’ll make sure of it. You are not the victim, though you play that role so well. I’m the one you threw away like garbage.”
Alaina closed her eyes as a wave of nausea hit her. “I-I had no choice. I tried to do the best I could.” The words came out in a hoarse whisper. “Do not try to find me. Do you hear me?”
“Now that sounded mother-like, very authoritative, but there’s not a damn thing you can do to stop me, now is there, old woman?”
“Who is this?”
“You’ll find out soon enough. I’ll be seeing you real soon.”
The line went dead.

Sports Romance Blog Hop – Football Meets BDSM
Welcome to the Sports Romance Blog Hop sponsored by Cassandra Carr. I’m a huge sports fan so I was thrilled to write about a hero from one of my favorite sports – FOOTBALL! Today I’m going to be talking about my upcoming book Daddy’s Game which will be released this Spring. For this hop I’ll be giving you a sneak peek at this book and offering visitors an opportunity to win a $10 Amazon GC and a copy of the first book in this series, Daddy Morebucks in winner’s choice of ebook or audiobook format.
Daddy’s Game is the second book in my Daddy’s Girl Series, a Daddy Dom BDSM erotic romance which features the star wide receiver for the (fictional) Dallas Vipers, Natron Dakers.
Football and kink collide when the game’s biggest star attempts to convince a beautiful artist to play Daddy’s Game.
Sneak Peek from Daddy’s Game
Natron stepped back and lifted her t-shirt over her head.
Instinctively she covered her breasts with her hands. It made her uncomfortable to be half-naked in front of him. Self-conscious about her voluptuous figure, Carmen believed most men preferred a thinner woman. She weighed about thirty pounds more than the models on the magazine covers.
“What are you doing? Stop. I want to see you.” He pulled her hands away, firmly placing them at her sides.
“I’m embarrassed.” She felt the warmth rising in her cheeks.
He smiled and shook his head. “Girl, you don’t know how good you look, do you?”
“Well, I…I just need to lose a few pounds,” she stammered.
“Lose a few pounds my ass! You’re beautiful, and I love that you eat. I don’t need an anorexic woman. I want a girl who knows how to live, how to eat,” he said, wrapping his arms around her again. “How to love.”
He scooped her up like a bride about to cross the threshold and started climbing the stairs.
Panic rose in her throat. “Natron, you can’t. Please! You’ll drop me.”
He merely chuckled. “You don’t know how strong I am. I’m not gonna drop you.”
“But Natron, what are you doing?”
“What do you think I’m doing? I’m taking you to bed.”
“But, but…it’s so fast.” The alarm bells in her head waned. His persuasive charms were quickly overriding her concerns, and she longed to give in to this exceedingly sexy man.
“When I see what I want I have to have it. And right now what I want is you.” He nuzzled her neck, nibbling his way around her earlobe.
The words “right now” stuck in her head. Okay. He wanted her now, but what about afterwards? Would he want her then or would she be just another conquest for the big football star?
When he got to the top of the stairs he tossed her on the bed and proceeded to take off the rest of his clothes. As he stood there in all his naked glory, Carmen drew a ragged breath. He was gorgeous. Every muscle well-defined, his body rock hard.
Good Lord he must have to work out constantly to look like that and still eat pizza.
As impressive as his muscles were, it was impossible for her not to stare at his erection jutting out proudly before him.
“Now it’s your turn,” he tugged at her panties.
“Natron, I don’t know. Maybe this isn’t such a good idea…”
He pursed his lips. “Okay. Let’s play a game.”
Thanks for stopping by. If you liked this excerpt, follow me on social media or sign up for my newsletter and you’ll get announcements when Daddy’s Game is released.

What I Didn’t Learn in How to Write A Novel Class with @KateDeveaux Author of Sail Away With Me
First of all, thank you Normandie for having me as your guest, it’s always a pleasure stopping by to chat about upcoming releases or what’s on my mind.
Today I’d like to share with you the my first foray into “Writing a Novel.”
I always loved to write as long I can remember. In college, I wrote short sexy stories just to be shared amongst my closest friends, those who enjoyed a good racy read with no eye rolling at the explicit sex scenes. But later, when I wanted to write for “real” as I called it, I signed up for some classes long after I’d graduated from college.
“How to Write a Novel” called to me from the pages of the local college calendar. The thought of finally learning how to write an entire novel was both daunting and thrilling.
The first day of class we had to go around in a circle and name our favorite authors. As a mix of serious looking men and women answered with names such as Dickens, Tolstoy, and Hemingway, I slunk further in my seat. Damn, I was no writer. I couldn’t do this. Sure I’d read those authors in college, but I didn’t aspire to be them or to write ‘War and Peace’ for that matter. These people were “serious writers.” As I sat there thinking about how to make my exit before I embarrassed myself by revealing my taste in books, the professor approached the woman sitting next to me and asked for her favorites. To my astonishment — amongst the highbrow crowd crammed into that classroom, the woman next to me proudly announced she liked Harlequins.
Phew! I wasn’t alone in my love of lusty, love struck stories with hunky heroes and dazzling heroines that lived on in my memory long after the book was discarded.
I took a deep breath when the professor looked at me with an encouraging nod. And then I said it, nervously rattling off a list of my favorites at that time: Shirley Conran, Anne Rice, Jilly Cooper and Danielle Steel. The room was dead silent, but no one fainted in my taste of authors — no one tisked-tisked. They all just looked down at their notepads as if to say, “well there’s one in every crowd.”
I was inspired by the courage of that woman who sat next to me. The next week, I came back to class, with my chapter written, and work-shopped it with the other writers. Of course, I omitted some of the sexiest scenes, the Dickensonians didn’t seem like they’d be quite up to workshopping a foursome (which later, once I was published, proudly learned is ménage a quatre). But what the heck, there was a lot I didn’t know yet.
I kept going back to that class, writing one chapter at a time and by the end, I had written my novel.
Best,
Kate
xx

Interview with Erotic Romance Author MK Schiller Plus a Contest
This week at Friends on Friday I’m welcoming MK Schiller to the blog. She was sweet enough to sit down for an interview and she’s sharing with us about her new release “.”
Interview
What was the inspiration behind this book?
I wanted to write a story about that first childhood love and how special it is. I also wanted to add elements of suspense and do it from a mostly male POV.
Which character spoke to you the most while you were writing this book or which was you favorite?
Definitely Caleb since the story is from his prospective. The reader learns of Sylvie through Caleb’s eyes.
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Since I was a little girl making up different scenarios and alternate endings to my favorite television shows….and this was way before fan fiction became a real thing.
Tell us about your favorite atmosphere for writing.
My huge but messy desk from Ikea, a mug of piping hot caffeine, background music, staring at dual monitors.
Tell us about your “discipline” for writing. Are you consistent – writing at the same time every day or do you write in spurts and stops? How do you balance writing with the rest of your life?
I write in spurts. I have another life where I work full time and have two kids so I can’t really stick to a schedule, but when the mood strikes me (which is often) I can write for hours.
Do you have a project in the works that you’d like to tell us about?
I have a novella, Lucky Fall, coming out in February with Totally Bound. It’s an older woman/ younger man story. Younger man is also a billionaire. I loved writing it and there are some other great stories in the collection as well.
How do you make yourself stand out in a competitive market?
It’s hard, but I write what makes me laugh – the everyday funny with the unique twist of sultry.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I work, read, hang out with my kids – kids are great fodder for every writer.
What are you reading right now?
I’m reading Gabriel’s Redemption by Syvain Reynard.
What is your favorite color?
Green – love all the shades of green.
Favorite food?
Chocolate in any form.
If you had to be stranded on a desert island – who is the one person you’d like to be stranded with, and what one luxury item would you like to have with you?
My daughter because she makes me laugh, but then again it would mean she was stranded too so that would suck. I’d definitely have my e-reader and some sort of electricity source so I can obviously keep it charged.
If you could be any animal what would it be? Why?
An elephant – big and beautiful is the way to go.
What is something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
I was born in India
I love Kid Rock
I cry when I see a sad commercial
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Thank you for having me and asking such great questions. I hope you’ll check out my book, and write to me!

The worst part of being a kid was that you never knew how good you had it until it was too late.
Childhood was simple. My parents told me it was because I didn’t have bills to pay or mouths to feed, but it was more than that. It was because nothing was planned. When you didn’t plan for it, you didn’t worry about the consequences. They just happened naturally without the coercion, manipulation or mindfuck games that came with becoming an adult.
I never planned for Sylvie Cranston to be my best friend. I never expected her to be the muse in all my dreams, or the girl who later haunted my nightmares. I certainly never planned to fall in love with her, but that was exactly what happened.
Everyone told me I needed to move on. That was like asking me to pierce my own flesh and crush my empty, beating heart. They wanted me to toss it away and continue to breathe. How could a man function without his heart?

About the Author
MK Schiller is a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. Writing is her passion, but with a full time life and two busy teenagers, it proves difficult. But in the quiet dark of night, she sits by the warm glow of a computer monitor, and attempt to conjure up passionate heartwarming stories with plenty of humor.
She started imagining stories in her head at a very young age. In fact, friends started making requests for stories where they were featured as the heroine and the object of their affection was the hero. You’ve heard of fan fiction… this was friend fiction.

EXCERPT
A discreet knock sounded at her door. Two quick raps. He had come.
She flattened her palms over her nightdress, a fairly formal affair of cotton and lace. Upon dismissing her lady’s maid, she had retied the mask to conceal her face. After all, the freedom of anonymity was what made Lady Needham’s country house weekend so wicked and so wonderful. Participants wore masks for its three-day duration, enabling guests to dabble in pursuits that were decidedly more sinful than ordinary society permitted.
She took a deep breath before hastening to the door and pulling it open. There he stood, the man who had trampled her train and won her desire in the process. He stood tall, still wearing his black evening tails and his mask. They were to remain entirely unknown to each other. Maggie wasn’t certain if she was relieved or disappointed. While she very much longed to see his face, she also wasn’t ready to reveal hers to him.
“Am I still welcome?” he asked, his voice low and intimate and somehow hesitant all at the same time.
His uncertainty won her over. She stepped back into the chamber, gesturing him inside. “You are most welcome as long as you promise not to do any further damage to my wardrobe.”
He chuckled as he strode across the threshold. “I shall do my utmost to keep your gowns in good order, I swear.”

Coming to an eReader near you in 2014…
Upcoming Pirate Trilogy
What hot, sexy books can I tempt you with in 2014? Well, I have a bunch of big projects on the horizon for 2014! The first is an erotic romance trilogy about pirates. The first of these books is tentatively titled “Rescued by the Buccaneer”, and I’m expecting it to be released by February at the latest. Books 2 & 3 in the trilogy should be released in 2014 as well. This series follows the adventures and exploits of free-spirited Englishwoman Frederica and the charming French pirate Gaston.
Daddy’s Girl Series
Also coming in 2014 – two more books in the Daddy’s Girl Series. I expect to release Book Two (working title “Daddy’s Game”) this Spring. Daddy’s Game is the story of Carmen and her famous, football-star Daddy – Natron Dakers.
Though I haven’t started on it yet, I think Book Three is going to be my next favorite. This book tells the story of poor little rich party-girl Charmaine. (Read a bonus scene with Charmain here from Winter Spanks.)

I also have planned for later in the year a single title release that I’m keeping under wraps. Having written a large chunk of it already, I can honestly say that this is by far my filthiest book yet, for what it’s worth. Lol.
I’m always interested in what my readers have to say. What kinds of books would you like to read? Leave a comment and let me know.
And check out my Pirate Pinterest Board if you like that sort of thing.
