September 2015 Eclipses: The higher self eclipes the lower self
As an energy healing therapist, I would like to share some information about what to expect during the September 2015 eclipses.
The 13th of September will bring a solar eclipse in the new moon in Virgo, and September 27th will bring a full lunar eclipse in the full moon in Aries. The energy of Aries is self-focused while the energy of Virgo is service-oriented. All new moons bring new beginnings, new chapters, doors opening and fresh opportunities. But this new moon will be much, much stronger with the concurrent solar eclipse. All full moons bring endings and completions. But again, this full moon will be much, much stronger because of the lunar eclipse. And these eclipses in Virgo and Aries will bring an end to some self-focused habits in favor of being of service to others.
Now its very important to make some distinctions here about what it means to be of service. Most of the clients in my energy healing practice are empathic. If you are reading this, you may be empathic as well. Individuals who are empathic (empaths) are naturally giving and have the ability to feel the emotional pain of others. Because of their caring and giving nature, empaths tend to put the needs of others before their own and give themselves away. This is not service.
Being of service does not mean sacrificing yourself. Giving away your time, talent and energy to others because you feel obligated, coerced, manipulated or guilty depletes your energy and only serves the lower self of others and feeds the ego. It doesn't serve anyone for your energy to become depleted. Being of service means spontaneous giving that is inspired from the heart. True service is mutually beneficial and uplifts both the giver and the receiver. True service serves your higher self and the higher self of others.
So what are the self-focused habits that are ending in September? Although it may seem that self-sacrificing behavior is selfless, its actually self-serving because it feeds our lower-self need to be seen as a martyr, our need to avoid feeling guilty, our need to avoid feeling unworthy, our need to avoid hurting the feelings of others, or our need to avoid being criticized.
Here is a passage I wrote in the award-winning Awaken Your Greater Health, "When you are centered in your heart, you are automatically in the two-way sustainable energy flow of giving and receiving healing energy. This can only happen after the death of lower-self ways, when we let go of the self-serving stance of taking responsibility for others. When we step out of the way and become selfless, our inner channel is opened and cleared for spiritual energy to work through us. This service orientation is the natural state of the higher self."
The personal changes that will happen during this eclipse season are not an end to self development in favor of more giving away of self. It will be just the opposite. What will be "eclipsed" are the self-serving habits of putting others before self, taking on the pain of other, or taking responsibility for others in favor of heart-centered service to the world. This represents an incredible opportunity to make the shift from lower self to higher self that awakens greater health. And the best part is you don't have to do anything but embrace the changes that are coming. You don't have to initiate anything at this time. Just let go and receive. The energies of September support your awakening, and you may begin to feel this effect in August, as well as through October.

The You I Never Knew
I didn’t know of you until you were already gone. I never laid eyes on you. I didn’t even know your name.
And yet…I know you were beautiful. …I know you were perfect. …I know you were pure love and light.
I sense you in the stillness. I sense you in the sadness. I sense you in my heart.
Your life, however brief… matters. Your life, however small… means something. Your life, however invisible to the outside world… is worth grieving.
And so I honor you by speaking of you. ...I honor you by grieving for you. ... I honor you by loving you…the you I never knew.

Spiritual Guidance: What You Believe Creates Your Experience
I've read several books recently on spirit guidance, and have discussed the different perspectives with clients in my energy healing practice. One author described spirit as impersonal and suggested asking for proof of its existence and setting deadlines for that proof to appear. Another warned that when spirit shows up in your life, it is harsh and demanding and will take over your life. My experience has been different from both of these.
As I wrote in Awaken Your Greater Health , I have always experienced spirit guidance as "consistent, supportive, loving, wise and empowering." Does that make one view right and one wrong? No. It's a matter of belief.
If you believe that spirit is harsh and will take over your life, that will be your experience. If you believe that the way to manifest what you want in life is by setting deadlines and requiring proof from spirit, that will be your experience. If you believe spirit is consistent, loving and patient, that will be your experience. All perspectives are valid.
You have the power and authority to choose your own beliefs. We can all consider the beliefs of others and then decide what best resonates with us. What do you choose to believe?

Live Big or Stay Small
If you are a fan of the Sex and the City series, you may remember the final episode when Carrie makes the decision to quit her column and move to Paris with "the Russian." And then came the questions. Her friends bombarded her with:
"Where are you going to live?"
"What are you going to do?"
"You can't just give up your life!"
When Carrie grew tired of the questions, she exclaimed, "I can't stay single for you!" She could just as easily have said "I can't stay small for you!"
Although our friends and loved ones say they want what's best for us, what they really want is what they think is best for them. They want us to live small so they won't feel so uncomfortable about their own choice to live small. And sometimes we do just that, live small so we won't feel guilty and won't make others uncomfortable. But that serves no one.
Recently my daughter made a big decision. She took a leave of absence from her job to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. And then the questions started. And I have to admit that I asked them too. I am human, after all! It hasn't been easy for her to choose to live big when that causes people she cares about to feel distress. But in choosing to live big, she inspires everyone she is connected to, to live big too.

Being Enough
Do you feel "not enough?" If so, you aren't alone. Most people don't feel enough. But you may wonder what causes it and how to change it.
Feeling "not enough" is a result of disrupted, incoherent energy. Moment to moment, we are either living life from our wounds (the lower self), or living life from our higher self. Simply put, the energy state of the lower self is disrupted, incoherent, and unhealthy, while the energy state of the higher self is flowing, coherent, and healthy.
When we are living from our lower self, nothing feels enough because our disrupted energy produces that feeling. In this disrupted energy state, we don't feel like we are enough, we don't feel like we are doing enough, we don't have enough money, not enough energy... not enough of anything. Everything feels lacking. Even the word "enough" may feel lacking. "I want to be more than enough!" you may say. But isn't enough... enough? Why do we feel like we have to be more than enough? Because we are seeking relief from our disrupted energy state. But exaggerating our "enoughness" doesn't correct disrupted energy. We can't compensate by seeking to be "more." Relief from disrupted energy comes when you shift to your higher self.
In your higher self, you are at the center of your being. At your center, life ceases to feel too much or not enough, because all is in perfect balance. In that state, energy is coherent and there is no sense of lack.
If you would like to learn more, I have published a book to guide you to living from your higher self: Awaken Your Greater Health: How Energy Medicine Opens the Way to Healing. Waking Up From Groundhog Day
In the 1993 film Groundhog Day, Phil Connor wakes each morning to find himself living the same day, over and over. At first he responds to his predicament in an egocentric way, taking full advantage of situations and others for his own personal gain. Eventually he falls into despair and attempts to escape his situation by ending his life. When Phil finally accepts his situation and begins to use the knowledge he had gained for the benefit of others, he finds happiness, inspires a whole town, and wakes up.
This movie is a perfect metaphor for how so many of us live our lives, stuck in the same patterns that repeat over and over again – as is we are re-experiencing the same day. And we will attempt to escape the situation by keeping ourselves busy, distracted and numb. But there is a healthier way.
I have recently published a book, Awaken Your Greater Health: How Energy Medicine Opens the Way to Healing that is about this process of waking up from our patterns – the transition from living locked in lower-self thinking, feeling, and diminished health states to a life lived from the higher self. Because as we saw with Phil, life lived from the higher self brings us happiness that is mutually-beneficial to ourselves and others.
If you are interested in awakening from your lower-self patterns, read the book preface here. And buy the book here.

Embracing the Unique Self
Almost 4 years ago I started a blog called You, Me, and My DuPree Knee on the day I found out I needed knee replacement surgery. I started it on a day that I was in a crisis. As a former clinical nurse, I learned to respond to crisis situations with creative solutions, and that day the idea to create a blog flowed through me. But last year my blogging product was dropped by godaddy, and I chose to shut down the blog rather than start over because frankly the act of putting blog posts out to the public was never easy anyway.
Today my weariness of having to pretend to be someone I’m not has reached a crisis point, and this has spawned the creation of another blog. You see, I LOVE working with clients in my energy healing practice one-on-one, and I LOVE writing, but everything else that has to do with being an entrepreneur and being an author that involves interacting with the public I strongly dislike (and that's a big understatement), because it seems to require me to be someone I'm not. I am a recluse and every single contact I have with the public is difficult. Every FB post. Every tweet. Even this blog post. But I’m owning it. This is who I am, and I’m done with fighting against my own nature. I do not need to be fixed for I am not broken.
So whoever you are, whether you love to be the center of attention or abhor it, let’s embrace our unique selves. The world needs all kinds of people, even reclusive healer-authors.
