The Storytelling Heart Of An Author

I had the wonderful opportunity last fall to be a guest on the radio show of an old friend, Vonni Widdis. Vonni is president of   in Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada). Nextep is a digital storytelling consulting business helping people bring their personal narratives to life. You can find out more about Vonnie here.

Vonni’s show airs on BBM Netowrk and she hosts a wonderful array of people and brands. We had a chance to visit about everything from Scottish historical romances to young adult fiction from the Old West. Even my cat made an appearance. I think it’s something you might enjoy. Thanks again to Vonni for her time. I had a blast. My part on the show begins around 29:30 in. enjoy!

Looking For Recipe Testers

shutterstock_93397093I’ve got the recipe almost ready for the next Line of Fire book, and I am looking for recipe testers. It is really as easy as it sounds.

1. I send you the soooooper sekrit recipe that will go into the back of Fire Fight.

2. You make the recipe at home just the way it’s written in my instructions. (Must have measuring tools for precision.)

3. If it fails, you email me back and tell me what went wrong so I can change it before we print it. If it succeeds, you let me know and we will rock out together!

Then, we’ll send you a contributor packet so you can get acknowledged for your work inside the book. If you’d like to send pictures back to me, that’s awesome. I’ll put them here on the blog. But the most important thing is, if you like to bake and have some taste-testers, I would love to have your help! And I would be forever grateful. :)

The recipe I’ll be testing this time is from Meg’s Bakery, so it’ll require a basic knowledge of baking. No special equipment (that I know of and as far as I know, no special ingredients). If you are interested, please either use the contact button at the top of this blog page, or email us at assistant at rlsyme dot com.

We hope you enjoy recipe testing with the Becca Nation!

Early Reviews Are In!

If you haven’t got your copy of A Month Of Sundays yet, here are what our early reviewers had to say. All reviews are from Amazon.

Sweet Romantic Read!!!

Bytherese lopezon April 7, 2015

Another great story about the town of Somewhere, Texas. This story is about bar owner Joe and how he needs to start to settle down and find the right woman and who better than the town librarian Krista. This is a sweet romance that I loved everything about. I love this town and all the characters who live there. Joe and Krista were perfect for each other, I loved them both and I’m glad they got their own story.

Very Enjoyable!

ByEllen Andersonon April 7, 2015

Loved this return to Somewhere, Texas and some of the characters we have met before. To me, Month of Sundays was kind of a small town’s way of matchmaking, thrown together by men. My only problem is a bit of a spoiler here, but Joe’s background on why he acted the way he did was explained, unfortunately Krista’s was only hinted at in bits and pieces. I really would have liked her or someone to explain to Joe, or at least to ME, exactly what happened and why her fiance left her. Even lacking the full reason for the break-up, it is still a cute novella and I will continue to visit Somewhere and the characters there as long as they are being written.

A Month of Sundays

Bycelticmaggieon April 7, 2015

This book was a joy to read. Don’t worry there are enough incidents to keep you interested. I have read R.L. Some before but I got to find another new author to start following. They did a really good job writing the story line with a few glitches along the way. Joe is the town’s bad boy. He needs money to save his Bar but his friends won’t fork it over until he finds a girl for a relationship not just one night stands. Krista works in the library. She can’t find help for the Fair coming up and she is worried. Joe’s friends literally drag him out of bed and to the library and throw them together. He needs the money and she needs extra Fair help. Along the way they get to like each other but it is only a bet. Spoiler. It was fun watching to see what would happen next! This is a short, easy read. Give this book a chance. You won’t regret it Enjoy this book!

A Month of Sundays

ByNicoleon April 7, 2015

This was a nice fun read. The characters were lovable. Joe has a little growing up to do and his friends push him to the point he can’t ignore it anymore. In comes a bet and librarian Krista is who Joe has his sights on to help him win the bet. It’s a win win situation because he can help her out too. As the title says a month of Sundays is when they have their dates. What starts out as bet as a means to an end soon takes a twist neither saw coming. Joe is good for Krista because he livens up her life and she in turn is good for him because she brings a slower pace to his fast loose ways. They are two souls that have a world of hurt in their hearts, but being together starts a healing process they didn’t plan on.

A sweet read on a lazy day.

ByRainey Day Book Reviewson April 7, 2015

A Month of Sunday’s is definitely a novella that you could read on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I loved this book and it only took me a short time to get through. Joe is quite the ladies man… alright a playboy if you will. He needs money to keep his bar running and his friends make a deal with him… turn himself into a serious adult and date Krista, the librarian. Krista agrees to going on “A Month of Sunday’s Dates” because she needs assistance with the carnival that she is organizing.

I have to say that while reading this novella that if I were living in Somewhere, TX I would probably be taken by Joe’s charm and he really is quite the gentleman. He really does have his reason’s for being the love them and them leave them sort of guy. When he comes to the revelation that the women he has dated might not have necessarily had the same outlook on their dates as just having fun it is truly amazing.

Another sweet read from Somewhere

ByNicole Bon April 3, 2015

Another sweet read from Somewhere, Texas! Playboy Joe Walker, thanks to an intervention from his buddies, meets sweet librarian Krista. Krista helps open Joe’s eyes to how his behavior really affects the women he’s spent years bedding with “no strings attached”. Following Joe through this revelation broke my heart a little bit. Joe is a total stud and a complete gentleman at the same time. Loved his character.

This novella was a quick and enjoyable read, but I still wanted a little more. Novellas are such a tease. :)

4 stars only because I wanted to read more of their story! I was wishing for a few more chapters

Somewhere in Texas – A Beautifully Sweet Romance

ByHeather M “Heather”on March 31, 2015

A Month of Sunday’s… What a beautifully sweet romance. Set in Somewhere, TX, this sweet romance will take you to a place where things are simple, life is simple and the people are simple. Krista has a carnival to organize, Joe wants to save his bar. Will these two be able to get through a month of Sunday’s to save the carnival and the bar?

It was a little hard to read at first as there seemed to be too many characters right off the bat, but once you got to the meaning of the intervention you quickly understood why there were so many characters. The way the Lavender Daye and R. L. Syme brought you into the characters was very well scripted. Joe the “southern gentlemen” with a wild side and Krista the “sweet southern bell” and a Librarian.

We all have shadow’s that follow us through life, will Joe and Krista be able to let their shadow’s go? You will have to read this incredible romance to find out.

You can get a copy from your favorite online bookstore here. Hope you enjoy. Happy reading!

Meet The Man You Can’t Resist

Meet Joe Walker. He’s the hero of A Month of Sundays.

Joe Walker is a good guy. Really. Ok, so he has a bit of a reputation around town, but he has a heart of gold. Easy with the “sweethearts” and “baby girls”, he feels comfortable around women and enjoys their company. He inherited his father’s bar and is set on making the business even more successful than it was when Joe, Sr. ran it. Only, there are a few snags… but he’ll fix them. Joe Walker never breaks a promise.

If I could cast a movie for A Month of Sundays, Joe would be played by the dreamy Matt Bomer, from White Collar (on USA Network). You can get the inside track on Joe April 7 when Month of Sundays goes on sale! Happy reading!

Maybe the Coolest Thing Ever

We recently found a website called Gratisography, run by a photographer/designer named Ryan McGuire. He posts some really cool and quirky photographs that you can use for blogging/design without paying individual photo royalties. (He is also a designer himself, and I haven’t done any research into that side of his business, but his photography is SO cool and fun.) We decided to use his pictures this book release, for all of our release graphics. And because we didn’t have to pay him (although we did make a donation, because, frankly, we should), I wanted to make sure to share who he was and where we found these super cool pictures.

Watch our Pinterest page, Twitter feed, and Facebook page for the lead-up graphics. We’ve already posted the first one here.

And thanks to Ryan McGuire for taking awesome pictures and paying it forward. May you get great business. Goodwill, all around, today.

Reading Challenge

Reading ChallengeSo, I’ve been trying to spend more time reading this year, and so far, it’s going well. I still need to get over to Goodreads and update all the books I’ve finished. (I’ve decided not to count all of the books I start and don’t finish…. there are a lot.) I want to get through Fairest by Marissa Meyer before I update, though, because that one, I’ll review.

I’ve made myself up a reading challenge for books that will hopefully get me out and searching for new books that I might not have just “run across”. If you have any suggestions in the categories I’ve got, please let me know. I’m looking for reader recommendations! Rec away.
