STILL IN SOUTH WALES

After a quick exit from S Wales back home along the M4, we returned to our base at the White Springs Fishery to complete our tour by visiting two more Welsh schools. Login Fach are old friends and Gellionnen was new to us. Both schools provided memorable visits and we thank them for being perfect hosts. [...]

SPRINGING BACK INTO SOUTH WALES

After a great summer holiday spending lots of time fishing, running, cycling and writing, it was time to get back into schools again. Last Sunday found us heading along the M4 into South Wales to visit three schools, Bryn Y Mor, Tirdeunaw and Saron. We stayed at the fabulous White Springs Fishery in one of [...]

SAM’S THE MAN!

After a fab time in Berkshire at the Beautiful Bradfield College (our eldest son, Matthew, went there) we re-visited our fast-becoming-old friends at Langtree School near Goring. From here we ’disappeared’ into deepest rural Norfolk/Suffolk to visit two great schools and finally ended the term in my home town of Rotherham in South Yorkshire. Our time at Bradfield was as part of their Music [...]

GREAT TIME IN GOSFORTH

We have just had one of the most perfect weeks ever! We found a wonderful little self-catering flat in South Gosforth, just minutes away from the three schools we were scheduled to visit. The flat was ideal and a real cosy place to retreat home to at the end of a busy day. Gosforth East, Gosforth [...]

ISLE OF FRIGHT!

After a successful tour of the Isle of Man, Kath and I continued our ‘island hopping’ and travelled over to the Isle of Wight. We love this isle. We’ve been visiting schools on this beautiful (spooky island) ever since I became an author over ten years ago. The Isle of Wight is appropriately referred to as [...]

ISLE OF MAN TOUR

It’s very pleasing to report that our most recent trip to the Isle of Man has been our best to date. The schools were fabulous and the glorious Spring weather was the ‘icing on the cake’. We took up residence in Onchan in a lovely ‘home-from-home’ comfy bungalow very close to the coast. It proved an [...]

DARLING BUDS OF BOOKS!

Following a great World Book Week, we found ourselves in deepest Kent, staying in a hotel only minutes away from our close friend and brilliant cover artist, Paul Davies (and Julie, his lovely wife!). We love Kent – the location for one of our favourite old TV programmes – The Darling Buds of May. First visit [...]

WORLD BOOK WEEK LOOMS!

In the run-up to World First school on the cards was Tibshelf Town End Juniors, very conveniently located to a first rate Premier Inn near Tibshelf Services. A teacher we knew from a previous school, Kevin Flint, organised our visit brilliantly and the presentation went down a storm. We signeda huge number of Mokee Joe [...]

UP IN ‘LUVLY’ LEEDS!

So sorry for the delay in this blog entry…we’ve been working so hard and visiting so many schools it’s sometimes difficult to keep up! And three lovely schools that deserve a mention are Farsley Farfield, Horseforth Newlaithes and Bingley Grammar School. All three schools provided a fantastic welcome and were a real pleasure to visit. Farsley [...]

LONG LANE AND LANGTREE

Kath and I have always loved  the Pangbourne area, location of the famous children’s novel, Wind in the Willows. When I was a teacher a Cheam School, I used to fish the weir pool at Panbourne, courtesy of a lovely lady, Mrs Ellie Soar, who I’ve recently heard has just passed on. Mrs Soar often brought me a [...]
