FAB FOUR ‘UP NORTH’!

A new school – Sharley Park, old friends at Anston Park Juniors, more old friends at Haslands Juniors, and VERY old friends at Bolsover C of E Community School…all combined to bring about a wonderful-but-exausting week in and around South Yorkshire! Mrs Stanley accepted our excuse for being late on Monday morning to her school, [...]

BRILLIANT IN BEDFORDSHIRE!

A return visit to our old friends at Alban Academy, a much-delayed return to Alameda Middle School (after about 6 years!) and a first visit to Beech Hill Primary in Luton all went to make a hectic, but thoroughly enjoyable four days in Bedfordshire. During the week I struggled to cope with a throat infection [...]

B AND B IN ROTHERHAM

No…we didn’t stay in a Bed and Breakfast in Rotherham…I was Born and Brought-up in Rotherham. And that’s why it’s always good to be back there…back to one’s roots! Broom Valley Juniors, Tinsley Juniors, Roughwood Primary School and the little bit further afield – Byron Wood Primary in Sheffield…all served to remind me of my boyhood [...]

WORLD BOOK WEEK SUCCESS!

Wow! What a week that was! We stayed at our son’s house in Reading on Sunday night and drove up to Chesham to visit our first school of our World Book Week tour on the Monday morning. The school in question was the very lovely Hawridge and Cholesbury  School, but the drive took us nearly two hours! It [...]

A* FOR B, C AND D!

I’m rather proud of my cryptic title to this blog! It simply means  that schools ‘B for Brimmington Juniors’, ‘C for Cutthorpe Juniors’ and ‘D for Dronfield Juniors’ all provided ‘A*’ school visits. We’ve just returned from the ‘town with the crooked spire’…Chesterfield! Lady Kath is now sitting in her favourite place sipping tea and looking [...]

MORE NEWBURY GEMS!

In the week prior to half-term the weather got more and more extreme…wind, gales and incessant rain. The only good thing about this kind of weather is that it’s ideal for finding a quiet (dry) corner and curling up with a spooky book. Can I recommend any good spooky books? Of course! And this is [...]

NEW SCHOOLS, NEW CAR, NEW GRANDCHILD!

Wow! What a week! It all followed an amazing ‘Dr Who’ themed party for my brother at the weekend up in Yorkshire. A great time was had by all and there were some amazing outfits on display – much superior to the simple ‘Weeping Angel’ mask wore by myself. However, the camera gave the mask [...]

SOGGY IN SUFFOLK

It was a long…long drive down to Lowestoft in coastal Suffolk. We spent the last few hours driving in darknesss with the glare of headlights dazzling us from the oncoming traffic on single-lane roads….VERY tiring! So many fields under water. It almost looked as if the Norfolk Broads had moved down into Suffolk! But well worth [...]

BACK IN SOUTH WALES

Sunday afternoon found Kath and I driving down the M4 motorway heading for South Wales. We set off in dry sunny weather, but were soon driving through fog, finally crossing the Severn Bridge in torrential rain! Things soon cheered up! The following day we visited a first-rate school called Lon Las. This is one of the biggest – if [...]
