STEEL CITY GEMS

Back to our roots for a week and three wonderful school visits to report on…Dronfield Stonelow Juniors, Holmesdale Infants and King Ecgberts School at Totley. I regard myself as an extremely lucky author in that my books seem to appeal just as much to a very young KS1 audience (Years 1 and 2) as they do [...]

ROALD DAHL COUNTRY!

Kath and I are in Buckinghamshire. I didn’t know until we arrived here that one of my favourite authors, Roald Dahl, lived in the area and there is a museum in tribute to his work in the nearby village of Great Missendon. We will try to visit it in the next couple of days. Believe [...]

A FAB START IN SOUTH WALES!

Kath and I are on a real high this evening (Mon 9th September). We travelled along the M4 from our Berkshire base and over the Severn Bridge into lovely South Wales. Our host and good friend, Mr Cerys Schofield, has just taken over the headship of a primary school on the edge of Swansea…Ysgol Gymraeg [...]

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER…ALMOST!

Well…school’s out for us, anyway, but not quite for the schools themselves…another two weeks to go! Hang on in there…you can do it! Meanwhile, I’m writing like mad and have just finished my first draft of the new Mokee Joe book…Mokee Joe: Swamp Warrior. But there’s still a long way to go and lots of [...]

MANHATTAN TO SCUNTHORPE

Well…after a hugely successful five-week tour of fab schools in the US…we just had to ride out on a wave! And that’s exactly what we did. Our US ‘Hostess with the Mostest’, Judy Parker, arranged a cruise up the Hudson River on our last night in a luxury yacht, along with 200 of the best teachers [...]

CHAOS IN EAST HARLEM

During the US Memorial Weekend (Everything closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday), Kath and I rested on Saturday and Monday in our Newark, New Jersey Hotel – the Robert Treat Best Western by Penn Station ( a really fab hotel), but Sunday we took the PATH train back to Manhattan to enjoy my ‘second’ birthday [...]

PATERSON OUT WITH A BANG!

Two more cracking schools to finish off our all-too-quick week in Paterson, New Jersey. Thursday found us being driven in torrential rain to School #2, where Ms Kathy Ware was waiting to greet us. Kathy is the librarian and she placed us in front of approx. 200 5th to 8th Graders. It was Josh, an 8th Grader, who proved [...]

HAPPY NEW JERSEY BIRTHDAY IRON MAN 3

I’m don’t really regard myself as Iron Man 3, but I did watch the movie at the Jersey Gardens Outlet…it was a sort of birthday present to me from my wife, Kath. My other present is to see a Broadway musical next Sunday…can’t wait. Another birthday present was in the form of an e-mail from one of [...]
