Belfort Preview!
Belfort from Tasty Minstrel Games and designed by both Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim is a medium weight worker placement game with some area control thrown into the mix.
The goal of Belfort is to control various locations across the city. This happens over the course of seven rounds with scores being tallied three times throughout the game. To maximize this, players spend their turns gathering new resources and workers while also expanding into the city. The back and forth and decided what to play and how to play offers a lot of strategy to the game and it isn’t always easy to balance.
Not only is the game fun to play but it looks fantastic. The components and artwork are gorgeous, which you can see in my photos below.

Sushi!

I thought sushi was one of those things that was fairly consistent. Then we moved to Texas. Sushi is pretty darn hit or miss down here. We’ve only found a handful of places that does a good job with it. Because of that I signed Lisa and myself up for a sushi class. Since we took it we’ve started to get pretty good at making homemade sushi plus it’s better than anywhere else we can get it around here.

Lanterns Preview!

Lanterns from Renegade Game Studios and Foxtrot Games is a fun tile laying game designed by Christopher Chung.
To win Lanterns you must have the most honor points at the end of the game. Players gain honor by collecting varying color sets of lanterns and trading them in for points and to collect the lantern cards players add tiles to the board. The mechanics are super simple to understand but a like a lot of abstract games they can get very mindy bendy (in a good way) for more advance players.
Not only is the game fun to play but it looks fantastic. The components and artwork are gorgeous, which you can see in my photos below. If you don’t already have Lanterns pre-ordered you can do so here.

Baby Squirrels!

On Saturday I was in my office working when I noticed that all four of our pets had gathered at the back window (2 cats & 2 dogs). They all seemed to be pretty excited. I went to investigate and saw that a baby squirrel was sitting on the outside of the window ledge.
I quickly grabbed my camera and ran outside to discover that there were a total of three baby squirrels. They were just hanging out climbing the back brick wall of our house and rolling around in the grass. They were barely bigger than my hand and soooo stinking cute!
I was with them for about a half-hour before they started to get sleepy. One even fell asleep while hanging onto a brick and just hung there like a sloth. Eventually it woke up and all three crawled under our shed. I got a flashlight and saw that the momma squirrel was underneath. They cuddled with her and have been in there chilling ever since.

The cover for National Cthulhu Eats Spaghetti Day!
With the Kickstarter launching in less than two weeks I thought it was time to finally reveal the cover art for the book. We decided to go with a wrap around cover, so everything from his left arm to his right arm would be the front. A small bit of the table and his wing would be the spine and the rest would make up the back cover. I’m really happy with how it turned out and artists Michael Regina did a fantastic job paining it!

Spaghetti & Meatballs Good Enough For Cthulhu!

National Cthulhu Eats Spaghetti Day (the book) is the ultimate guide on how to celebrate National Cthulhu Eats Spaghetti Day (the holiday). Included in the book are a bunch of recipes but of coursre the star of them all is Italian Meatballs, because let’s be honest you can’t have National Cthulhu Eats Spaghetti Day without spaghetti and meatballs.
The meatballs and sauce you see in theses photos were made using the recipe from the book. I can attest that they were absolutely scrumptious to eat.
National Cthulhu Eats Spaghetti Day will be launching on Kickstarter on April 13th. Leading up tot he launch I’ll be sharing the full cover and other eldritch things so mark your calendars cause if you forget to get a copy you’ll end up feeling embarrassed when everyone else is enjoying the world’s most Lovecraftian meatballs and you aren’t.
