Author Interview with the Examiner

Picture This is the exciting premise of S.L. Morgan’s new YA fantasy romance, Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key. We interviewed S.L. to find out more about her book, her writing life and her publishing journey.

Thank you for this interview, SL. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?

Thanks for having me! Well, for starters, I’d like to think that there’s never a dull moment when I’m around. I’m known for having a very energetic and enthusiastic personality, and I have a passion for adventurous, outdoor activities. I’m a wife, a mother, and now, a published author.

In October of 2011, I thought, “Hey, I should write a book.” And so began a life-changing experience. It’s been a very surreal experience, and it’s great to be able to share my imagination with the world.

Can you tell us briefly what your book is about?

Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key is novel that puts an interesting spin on the theory, ‘Does life exists outside of the boundaries of Earth.’

In The Legacy of the Key, The Guardians are from Pemdas, another dimension; and they are sworn to protect the people of Earth from threats from other worlds. They are forced to reveal their secret presence on Earth when Reece Bryant’s life becomes threatened. Unbeknownst to her, she is the link between Earth and all other worlds and dimensions in existence. Everything changes when she is brought into their enchanting dimension. Not only will she fall in love with Pemdas, but she will fall in love with Levi Oxley, one of her personal Guardians, putting her life in greater danger than ever before.

Why did you choose your particular genre?

Author Interview with S.L. Morgan

HOUSTON – Mountain girl and Yosemite High School graduate Stacy Morgan has written a book series under a pen name. Friends in the Oakhurst area may remember her as Stacy Baker, daughter of Dr. Terry Baker (Baker Chiropractic) and Rhonda Baker. Stacy's married surname, since 1996, is Morgan, and readers now know her as S.L. Morgan, author of Ancient Guardians: The Legacy of the Key.

The self-published novel is categorized as Young Adult, Fantasy/Romance. One blog review says "Ancient Guardians" is "set at a steady (never dull) pace; you will find enough action to keep you on your toes, but become so involved in a true love that it just might sweep you off your feet." The first book in the series is available through Amazon and barnesandnoble.com in soft cover, and also for Kindle.

First-time author Morgan now lives in Texas with her husband Jason and three children, Caleb, 13, Tyler, 11, and Jaci, 7. Between writing, parenting and plotting future publications, she took time to let us know that family and faith kept her going through the sometimes arduous process of writing and publishing.

 Q:
Can you describe Ancient Guardians?

A: I like to tell people that it has the fantasy of C.S. Lewis and "The Chronicles of Narnia" interwoven with the classic romance of a Jane Austen novel, all wrapped up with the beautiful colors of Pandora in the movie "Avatar."

Q:
What inspired you?

A: "Ancient Guardians" was written with my love for reading classic romance novels,
my favorite being Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." I wanted to write a
clean, classic romance novel set in that time period, but I didn't want to risk
the possibility of writing something wrong (not historically accurate or
something like that).

Thank you CBL Book Tours!!!

Picture I’d like to thank Laurynn, CBL Book tours and all
of the blogs that participated in the Ancient Guardians: Legacy of the Key book tour & give away. This has been a very enjoyable experience for me as a first time author. Laurynn’s constant communication and help was beyond what I could have ever asked for. I would definitely recommend her services for any author out there, looking to ‘grow their book.’ She is professional and I love how she showed the same excitement for my book tour as me.
When I decided to publish this book, I had an obligation to it and to the potential readers to have it professionally reviewed. It was vital to me that someone not be misled by the synopsis, book trailer, etc… I did not want anyone feeling as though they were misled and wasted their time or money. (I have been victim to this many times with other books I’ve read, and it’s upsetting.) I’d like to thank the bloggers who took the time to read and give it their fair and honest review. These bloggers and CBL’s guest reviewer exceeded my expectations with their detailed reviews. It was exciting and enjoyable to read them. I am confident after potential readers
see these reviews, they can safely decide on whether or not this book is for them, and safely save their money. So once again, thank you to those who took their time to do this for the book.

I’d also like to thank the bloggers who opted to
help promote the book and participate in the blog tour. All of your blogs are
beautiful and it was really exciting to see my book on your sites. Another
thing, I was so amazed and excited when all of the tweets started in; watching you all promote my book like you did was definitely a thrilling experience.

So, once again, thank you all of you—you all made something I was a little nervous about, an enjoyable experience!!!

Thank you,
S.L. Morgan

Picture Reece turned around and looked back down the path; it didn’t feel like it was that long ago that she’d seen it for the first time. She
remembered the way she felt the last time she was in this place as she looked at
the majesty of this world through astonished eyes. Her life changed forever on that day, in every way. And now, coming full circle, she admitted to herself what had been weighing in her heart for a long time; she didn’t want to go back to Earth. Ever.

Picture Just then, their attention was brought to the magnificent stallion being led by the boy down the street.
Reece watched Areion, intrigued by the way he trotted so gallantly behind the
young man. With his shiny black coat, large hooves, long flowing tail and mane, coupled with his muscular build, Areion made the other horses in the town look scrawny in comparison. The boy approached, and Areion halted behind him.
The boy handed the reins to Levi, “Sir, I didn’t know you rode a Guardian horse. I have never seen one up close until now. Are you really a Guardian, too?”
“Yes, I am. That is another reason why Miss Bryant is with me. I served to protect her while she was on Earth.”
“Wow, I hope to be a Guardian one day when I grow up.”
Levi smiled, “As long as you remain as courageous as you have shown me that you are today, I believe that one day you will make a fine Pemdai warrior.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“Thank you for retrieving my horse, I trust Areion gave you no trouble?” Levi asked, while Areion grunted in return.
Did the horse understand that? Reece let out a laugh.
“He was real good for me.”  The boy answered.
“Good,” Levi handed the boy three bills, “Thank you for your service today young
man.”
